JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. My first Liberty print orders ever arrived: the slim perfect shirt in White Garden and the navy/white J Crew/Tretorn/Liberty marley canvas sneakers. Not sure why I never ordered anything Liberty before, but I've not worn any florals at all since the end of the 1980's.

I ordered the top in my larger size 6 which was a good call. While it is a bit roomy in the waist, the 4 would have likely been too small in the shoulders. The sleeve length is good in the 6 as well. I like the soft fine cotton and the print has enough colors in that it will work well with a lot of my wardrobe.

The sneakers are keepers as well despite my over-abundance of sneakers. There is some wrinkling in the interface of the fabrics of the uppers, but it would only be seen by someone lying at my feet. As this is unlikely, I feel comfortable going with these cute and well-fitting sneakers. They come with light/dark laces. I have other Tretorn's (Nylite) where I had to size down 1/2 (and those are loose) but this sneaker is TTS. The print is similar enough to my tissue tneck in blue/ivory floral that I could wear them together, especially if I used the tneck under a solid sweater. They are also fun with my skinny jeans that have a slight floral pattern around the hems.

    1. First you start with the LIberty shirts, next thing you know you have shoes, dresses and bathing suits with the prints! The cotton used for the shirts is really lovely. It doesn't seem all that special at first and seems kind of thin and expensive, but it washes well and is so easy to take care of. I wash in cold water on the gentle cycle, take them out of the washer, shake them and hang them to dry. (I sometimes spend a few seconds to smooth out the placket.) Sometimes I give them a light steam with the steamer, but that's it. Although you could iron, I don't think it needs it.

I've been told that Liberty fabric costs even more in the UK and that J Crew is a good way to get items made with Liberty fabric.

I do find I need to size up for the shirts as they seem to be cut smaller in the shoulders and back than other J Crew shirts. In the regular sizes, I typically wear 2 or 4 in J Crew but for the LIberty shirts, I've been buying 6.

I keep telling myself I don't need any more but they keep using such lovely prints.

    2. Thanks @Toronto. I hang cottons out the same as you, but I often iron when they are still a bit damp.

  2. I found a men's cashmere scarf popback this am that was cancelled on me last January during the big men's sale. I ordered it right away and had no trouble with a price adjustment. So at least we will still get courtesy price-match on cancelled items. So I guess my stepson will get it for Christmas this year.
