This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

I just read a sentence on IG and thought I’d share...”the blazer TREND...”
ReplyDeleteI don’t exactly follow a trend so I didn’t know blazers were trending, but I guess this means many of us are “on trend.”
Even though I’m pretty casual I do like the structure of a blazer and generally throw one on instead of a jacket to dress up jeans. I’ve been wearing them less this past winter only because I’ve been so cold I opted for heavy sweaters instead, but moderate temps are perfect for layering a thin sweater or button down (or both) under a blazer.
Will you be wearing more blazers this spring? And how will you wear them? Did you know they were now a “trend?”
I'm going to wear a blazer today just do I can be on trend! Sweet!
Delete😆 maybe I’ll wear a blazer over my leggings for yoga with a pair of white sneakers and really be on trend!
Deletelol I guess I've been ahead of the trend since I've been wearing blazers for years. Now that we've transitioned to a less formal workplace I will be wearing them with jeans and tees or jeans and blouses. I agree that I opted for them less over the winter but I still always find them to look polished with a blouse and jeans.
Deletehas anyone notified Brooks Brothers?
DeleteWFF. 😂
DeleteWFF I'm dying!
DeleteI will pick a blazer over most other toppers. I am not one to wear an uncollared shirt like a tee on it's own, but I will with a blazer. Many times a jean jacket reads too young on me, in my mind at least, and I will wear a blazer on those occasions. I certainly think it's sharper looking than a short cardigan or jean jacket. I've always liked blazers.
Same. I actually don’t really wear denim jackets anymore. I love the concept but more as a shirt, buttoned. They’re not cut right for my loooong torso unless I get an oversized one which is the way we wore them in the late 80s/90s.
Delete@WFF exactly!
DeleteI posted in the Reviews thread about SZ Blockprints and remembered I have the green/blue sarong from a year or two ago. It is really beautiful, but it's so much fabric on me and I don't know what to do with it. I'm not at a beach that often so I already have limited time I could wear it as a sarong. Can you think of anything else I could do with it? I wouldn't use it as a tablecloth because my people are messy and I don't want it spilled on. Ideally, I'd find something for my tailor to do with it to turn it into something I could wear more often. I'd love for it to be an airy top or tunic. Any ideas? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Cate, if you lay it out flat, you can tie the top and bottom ends together on each side and slide your arms through for a shawl type look.
DeleteThat is brilliant, thank you so much! I'm going to try it!
DeleteNon-J.Crew related, has anyone tried Everlane's jeans? I know there were some recent posts re: pants but I was looking at their jeans this morning. I'd like to find a light wash ankle length straight leg non-distressed pair of jeans for work for spring. I have a pair on rental from RTR right now that are nice but I'd like another inch in the rise. I tried a Frame pair from Nordstrom but the wash was not like it was depicted online. I could buy the Current Elliott pair that I'm renting (or just keep renting them) but if I can find something I like better to purchase I know I'll get wear out of them. The Everlane ones are $68 which is definitely a good deal. All of the J.Crew light denim either has some distressing or is the light garment dyed look.
ReplyDeleteAnne, I tried them last week. I’ve typically been a 24 in Jcrew skinny jeans and a 25 in boyfriend jeans worn slouchy. I tried the high rise skinny and mid rise skinny, both in deep indigo. In the high rise the 25 was definitely loose through the torso. The mid rise was more fitted for some reason but there was still a little room. I like high rise pants with a wider leg, but high rise skinnies less so. The mid rise is still a 9” rise so kind of what Jcrew and Madewell have billed as a high rise and I found it a bit more flattering. The 24 would be fitted but the denim had a little stretch, not too much, and would probably conform to my shape nicely with wear.
DeleteI did like the feel of the denim. I don’t love super stretchy skinny jeans. They also have more stretchy jeans but note that those aren’t the ones I tried. I hope this helps.
Also, if you order two pieces shipping is free and returns with Happy Returns are easy. Check the map to see if that will work for you and then return shipping is free.
I just actually ordered the new denim drop 2 in three sizes in the dark indigo,
I didn’t post pics but I may still have them and I can DM you if so.
DeleteSuz, thanks for the input! I'm looking at the cheeky straight jeans - I think I'm set from a skinny perspective. I'll try to sizes to get the free shipping and they're still less expensive than the pair I just returned to Nordstrom. Maybe Crew will have a vintage straight pair in next week's rollout...
DeleteOh yeah. There are a few bloggers who have posted about that style. Oddly the Jcrew vintage straight doesn’t work for me, but the cheeky straight reminds me a little of the Madewell perfect summer Jean or the cruiser straight Madewell jeans I have which are all cotton and fit differently than the stretchier ones.
DeleteThis is a pretty thorough review.

Here’s another good review that actually mentions the jeans I did above.

@Anne, you’re describing my holy grail right now! I’m also searching for some great straight-leg jeans, but in a dark wash. Any I’ve tried so far have been too stretchy/lightweight. I’m wearing my Lucky crops in Cone Denim for the first time today and just love the feel of them. I wish I could find something similar in a longer length.
DeleteThere are so many great reviews of the Everlane cheeky straight. They really do remind me of my Madewell Cruiser Straight in Preston wash (all cotton) but mine are a little looser than most of the reviewers show. Granted mine are a few years old before the 90s Jean was everywhere.
DeleteOh, if anyone chooses to buy Everlane through my link I get a discount off my next purchase. (If this is not permitted I will delete, I don’t see anything on the iPad version of the blog).

Suz - Thanks for the links, I used the referral link, not sure if it works if I have an existing account but I'll give it a shot. Going to try a few sizes of the regular cheeky straight.
Deleteshopgrrl - I tried the Madewell slim straight that I randomly found in the sale section and those were really nice but I don't see the style listed. I'm going to order a few pairs from Everlane and I'll report back - they have several different washes which is nice. I also tried a Point Sur pair recently but they are super stretchy.
I posted on the Style thread too late last week. I was soliciting opinions on wearing sneakers with BR Logan pants or other bootcut but not wide-leg pants for work (I don’t want to invest in wide-leg pants as I have so many pants already). By strange coincidence, I then injured my foot on Sunday night and couldn’t wear dress shoes for the next few days. So Monday morning I headed to work in my BR Logan trousers in denim with brocade sneakers. I thought it worked really well! I followed up with some bootcut dress pants from Old Navy with new platform sneakers in black perforated leather and again was pretty happy with the look. I think this will be a good alternative for me to get a similar look to the wide leg pant trend while still shopping my closet.
