Wow! Black Friday promo is 50% off full price. Darn, and I bought stuff @ 40% off. Might need to get my orders adjusted.
ReplyDeleteSomeone posted the 50% off TGIF promo here a few days ago, so I was ready. I ordered a perfect fit turtleneck, a couple more tissue turtlenecks, and both colors in the mockneck Fair Isle cashmere sweater. If the sweaters aren't amazing, though, they're going back.

ReplyDeleteOnce again they raised prices in sale section right before the new promo. Everything is about the same price as previous promo with the pricing games. I picked up some basics I needed and multiple colors to try. I wanted to buy more but can’t get past the acrylic blends.

DeleteSurprised that the sales items in my cart did not increase in price. I ended up with 3 cashmere sweaters (featherweight oversized cardigan in black, pullover hoodie in bright harbor, ribbed neck sweater in navy) and the poppy ankle flats in navy liberty print. Why can you still add the cardperks code if it doesn’t take anything off? It has been this way for over a week.

ReplyDeleteWebsite still down. I placed an order early this morning for my biggest girl in the next size up. 10 items for $67! What a great deal. Also scored her favorite jeans at the gap (I love their jeans for her because they have a slim size - something JC should take note of). Today I received the cashmere fair isle sweater and tipped wrap coat (Duchess Megan’s coat). Both are absolute loves! The coat is very slimming (tts for coats - I always size up for jcrew coats and my normal size up size fit perfectly). This will be a great topper for my go to winter outfit: midi, sweater, and booties. I also love the cashmere fair isle. Colors are bright and fun, cashmere is super soft and warm, and it’s an appropriate length even for my 5’10 self. I’m thinking of going back to order the tiered poplin skirt in lavender if only the site would work! Btw, the factory bow midi arrived and it’s too big. Could be my fault as I forget that im slowly slimming down post baby. I ordered the same size as the spring versions and it’s 2 sizes too big. I think that means you should size down one but don’t quote me. Makes me sad that my spring versions are probably now too big. Not sure if a tailor can take a skirt in 2 sizes. I love them so I may consult a tailor to see!
ReplyDelete@Liztriden, I have the tiered poplin maxi in lilac and love it! It’s a lot of skirt (ie when I climb into my car it feels like a lot of fabric) but the quality is good and I love cotton skirts.

DeleteI was talking with an SA in my local store this morning about the lack of sweaters. Apparently this store receives very little winter merchandise because someone, somewhere is convinced we wear nothing but shorts all winter. The SA told me they just received a big shipment of shorts and they weren’t happy about it because customers are looking for sweaters.
Hi Jan! Thanks for the info on the skirt. One of the big reasons I’ve had my eye on this skirt is that it is cotton and will be perfect for our big Europe trip next summer. I think it will look so chic with a crisp white tank and sandals. I have the pineapple skirt and it’s a lot of fabric too but it somehow works. If the site is working this morning I’m going to order it.
DeleteThe fair isle sweater runs a teensy bit large, though I wouldn’t size down. I think it’s just a nice casual, looser fitting sweater. Not the super right, cropped sweaters of late. I could see someone petite maybe sizing down, but I don’t think it’s totally necessary. I hope it works out for you! It is absolutely adorable!
@Jeanne: I hope you like the fair isle sweaters too! Part of me wants the gray version too (I won’t as I already spent too much on myself this week/weekend)! I was just thinking the same about not enough cute sweaters. In fact, I went hunting on eBay for that very cute pink/burgundy and teal/blue fair isle turtlenecks from a few years ago. Would love one of those or a similar patterned sweater.

DeleteI shopped online in the extreme early morning, right after the promo went live, and I was at the mall before 7. I got coffee, then walked into J.Crew at 7:03 (opened at 7). My long nap on Thankgiving meant I barely slept last night, so getting my shopping done early was no problem.

DeleteI was able to place an order at 10:50 pm. I wanted to take advantage of 10% Ebates and 15% off coupon that's in the new holiday catalog (I'll share pics tomorrow on my IG, peterst1). I was talking to an SA tonight, and it's difficult for the stores too because they can't make online orders for customers. Access appears to be very sporadic because now site is giving an error message. This is a nightmare scenario for J Crew. IG comments are kinda rough. In addition to extending the sale, I can see some sort of "make-up," similar to the extra 10% offered last year when site had similar issues on CyberMonday.
DeleteAny tips on getting the 15% off in new catalog to work. I have 2 catalogs, so 4 codes and not one worked. They state that they can be combined and are good through dec 25th, but no luck with any of them.

I would be surprised if they have a full in-house IT infrastructure anymore since so many retailers contract out web services, but to go down again like they did last year on the biggest shopping weekend of the year is inexcusable.

It looks like the website is acting up again. I find it so strange how just the J. Crew website goes down, but neither sister brand does?
ReplyDeleteVelvet leggings - got in black. I'm technically one size down from my other legging-like pants (ie. pixies, tight joggers). As mentioned previously, the fabric is not what I thought it'd be. It's thinner and less "Spanx" like if that makes sense, but I think these will be fun with longer sweaters and tunic tops throughout the winter.
Boyfriend Utility Shirt - pale rose. Got this today in my normal size. The pockets are a little large, but the color is a great pale mauve pink color. I love how it's 100% cotton and the buttons match the shirt color so they don't stand out too much. It's a keep for me.
Waiting on the button back sweater (Point Sur) in both camel and grey, fuzzy cardigan jacket (Point Sur) in camel. I have seen the jacket in person and it's a cute alternative to a true teddy coat. Hoping the sweaters are good tunic length options as I find myself gravitating towards leggings this winter for some reason.
I went back to my local store this evening to return the 2 pairs of full length wide leg chinos (J7331) I ordered last week and to pick up the hair clip that was left out of my shopping bag when I checked out yesterday morning. I had high hopes for the chinos, but they were a disappointment. I really liked the fabric, a soft cotton with a little stretch. The fit from waist to crotch was comfortable and very flattering, but I hated the huge legs. I really like the wide legs on the 2011 foundry pants; however, these just looked weird and frumpy on me.
ReplyDeleteI think I mentioned this before, but I've been shopping for some older J.Crew items on Poshmark and Ebay. It's sometimes frustrating, because these older items aren't always "in excellent like-new condition" like the sellers claim, but I've picked up a few gems. Today I wore a Robert Noble red wool herringbone blazer from 2006 that I absolutely love. It was filthy when I received it, but after a trip to the dry cleaners, it's gorgeous. And I only paid about $30 for it, including shipping. I'm also very happy with a beautiful yellow Maggie blazer from 2008, also about $30, and several Schoolboy blazers NWT or like new. I picked up a couple 100% wool fair isle sweaters from recent years, too. Sweaters are tricky because a lot of people don't care for them well and there's a good chance they'll have moth holes or shrinkage, but I managed to find a couple or nice ones at reasonable prices. I've sold some things, too, but not as many as I hope to eventually unload. The items I've listed have sold well, but I can't seem to motivate myself to photograph and list the things I want to sell. Maybe this week.
I concur with Poshmark. I bought a $425 pair of Belgian Loafers last week for less than $100 - had never been worn. I have bought mostly new things there but for very good prices.

Perhaps you should buy now and return if you change your mind, so you don’t regret it. That would give you a chance to think it over.
