Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Boden has 20% off site wide. I am loving Boden more and more. There are some beautiful prints for Spring and their "Modern British" styles manage to look fresh and timeless at the same time. Their quality puts J Crews current offerings to shame. Fit can be tricky but over time I have gotten better at sizing.

    1. I finally wore my Boden Modern Denim Dress yesterday! I added tights and ankle boots and was really happy with how it all came together. I agree that Boden has better casual dress offerings for me than J.Crew right now.

    2. I agree! Boden's stuff has gotten ever lovelier, and their prints keep improving. The fit is so impeccable too, so much structured and body-skimming stuff in natural fibers.

    3. Where I live we have had Boden Sample sales...The stuff is decently cute but the fit was just way off, I don't bother going to the sales anymore.

    4. Thanks for the heads up on the promo! I find Boden's quality and sizing to both be hit or miss in items I've ordered. I do like their styles.

    5. Absolutely love boden. I recently purchased the modern pencil skirt in the lovely yellow letter and it's such a beautiful skirt. High quality, lovely cut, adult appropriate length, and a really fun pattern that will get lots of wear this spring and summer!

    6. Same re) Boden. Quality and prints are great, but their fit drives me insane. I can't figure out my skirt or dress size with Boden so I've sworn them off. (And in all fairness fit issues drive me insane with J Crew sometimes, too, especially when it comes to shirts.)

    7. Agree with the Boden fit issues. My first two dresses were 10s, so I thought I had it figured out. Next order, two 10s were too small, and one 10 was too big. I'll still try again as long as they aren't FS, but wish it was more consistent, seems like a very basic product design issue: Dress matches size specifications, Yes/No

    8. I placed my first order with Biden last week and have my fingers crossed sizing works out. I loved that medal print used on a collared shirt and Breton tee so I ordered both with plans to keep the one I like more.

    9. I will add to the Boden love. I find that after ordering a few times I can generally tell what size I'll need (usually one up from J Crew on top and 2 sizes up on bottom which is strange esp. as I have a larger chest), and I love that the garments have individualized size charts. Can't wait for some of the spring dresses I saw on their preview site a few months ago finally debut!

  2. Had a date with my husband last night and stopped into Kate spade. I tried on a few things and walked out with a lovely new sweatshirt. I tried on some of the new offerings that are not on the site yet - a super cute black and white stripe tee with a tassel fringe sleeve and a striped blouse. I took home the happy sweatshirt - it's adorable, soft and cozy, and very flattering. Plus it has a good mix of colors that will be easy to mix and match. My first planned outfit is with the j crew fringe dot midi in the blue colorway. I had a 15% coupon so that helped on price.

  3. Wandered into a Banana Republic this weekend and was pleasantly surprised, walked out with a pair of Ryan pants (machine washable work pants, hurray!) and if I had had more time would have actually tried on those merino sweaters everyone is raving about. Definitiely had a quality feel when I ran my hands over them, just didn't have time to confirm fit.
