This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I received an outreach e-mail, but no response; and this was after I sent an email to Mickey a few months ago about a difficult return process on an item that should have been simple. I used to be very active on jcrewaficionada and love J.Crew (I reinvigorated my blog but have not posted a lot yet on new purchases because frankly there haven't been). The return issue, being rerouted...for items I find are only decreasing in quality but increasing in price makes me sad.

  2. Not a vent...the collection cashmere cardigan in navy gingham is marked down to $39.99 less 30% off and all sizes are available. I think it is a mistake but quickly ordered one.

    5. Thank you! Hopefully a size S fits! M was sold out. Online review said to size up. Has anyone tried this IRL? I'm a 36B.

    9. I almost snagged one this morning but got distracted, and by the time I got back to it, it was too late. Thanks for the tip though, I came so close!

    10. If you're an XXS, it's back in stock. I snagged one, even though I think an XS is better so I can layer.

  4. Trust me, I had to look about 3 times at this one. After I grabbed it, I knew I had to post ASAP so all my fellow JCAs could get in on the action. Too bad the shell is still $199.99 in navy, would love to have the set. I think that it is messed up too since the other two colors are on promo for $148.00. Happy Wednesday to everyone!

    1. Great find, thanks for sharing! Pretty sure it was a mistake since earlier at 9:15 or so it was still available in the three colors and various sizes, but now less than an hour later it says that ALL sizes and colors are available....hmmm. Anyways, I snagged one as a gift for someone, woot woot!

    2. Ooops, that should read, 'ALL sizes and colors are no longer available....'

  5. JC fixed it. Now it's back to $228 full price with only small size available. Thank you DD for making my day!!

NEWS WATCH; J. Crew Web Goof Results in Discount
      By ANDREW ROSS SORKIN
      Published: November 11, 1999

Want a cashmere sweater from J. Crew for $18? For several hours this week, J. Crew's Web site, www.jcrew.com, inadvertently listed a $218 cashmere sweater for $18, leading several hundred e-shoppers to quickly add the item to their digital shopping carts in hopes that the pricing glitch would go unnoticed. J. Crew officials soon discovered the mistake on the site and removed the item. But did the sly surfers who ordered the $18 sweater really get away with a $200 discount?

For about 24 hours, that seemed to be the case. Then, the e-mail message arrived.

''Big mistake!'' said Emily Woods, chairwoman of J. Crew, in an e-mail message to customers. ''I wish we could sell such an amazing sweater for only $18. Our price mistake on your new cashmere zip turtleneck probably went right by you, but rather than charge you such a large difference, I'm writing to alert you that this item has been removed from your recent order.''

The company is allowing customers who ordered the sweater at $18 to reorder it for $118.80 to $130.80 depending on the size through a special address on the Web site. But that plan could also run into trouble because anyone who knows the address can buy the sweater at the discount. ANDREW ROSS SORKIN

    3. Okay, I'm looking at the author of the article. Is that the same Andrew Ross Sorkin that's the writer on Showtime's Billions? How funny.

    4. @Pansy, yeah, it's possible that this item won't but similar pricing blunders have been going on over the past few months -- I recall a few JCAs snagging some Collection loafers for a steal this past winter. Maybe JC rescinds the orders if there are too many buyers benefiting from the mistake, rather than just a few? Guess we shall have to wait and see! Either way, their pricing glitches are becoming somewhat legendary (such as when they put Regular on sale, but not Petite, or vice versa.)

    5. I got a notification earlier that my gingham cardigan shipped, so it looks like J.Crew is honoring the price.

    6. This is the first glitch I've seen mentioned in a while. I still wear my $15 white lookout high rise jeans from a couple of summers ago-and it made me buy more of the same style later. Win-win :)

  6. My vent this week is same as last. Anyone cardholders get their quarterly rewards yet or have any luck getting the rewards info from CS? The waiting so long is ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So I did live chat and was told watch your mailbox they will be arriving in the next few weeks! I mentioned other credit cards are able to turn the rewards around immediately and it is frustrating to wait 6-8 weeks. She said she would pass along the feedback.

      Delete
    2. @JessF, agreed, this should be a pinned Vent, as it comes up quarterly. Their reward system is a joke (or at least, the company/bank they hire to run the reward system is a joke.) JC seems to be very good at certain things (such as their customer service), but really behind the times in other aspects in the retail industry (rewards program, Find-in-Store feature.)

Also, 'watch your mailbox for the new few WEEKS??' We're already AT the 6 week mark since they allegedly mailed them out, aren't we? (Or at least, we will be, by the end of this week, if I'm not mistaken.) Lame.

    4. the rewards program is so confusing i can't even tell if i'm actually getting any rewards cards or not!

      Delete
    5. Yes, the waiting on JC rewards is ridiculously long. But I like that they apply the reward and it is not pro-rated across EVERY single item in the order (so when something is returned, the reward isn't completely redeemed).

At BR/GAP, any reward "certificates" are applied in a pro-rated manner across EVERY single item in my order. Painful!

      Delete
    6. Yes. And God help you if you try to return an item where you used a reward. You can't exchange, etc. giant hassle.

      Delete
    7. @3ppm - it's true, the way Rewards are pro-rated at BR/GAP if you have more than one item is incredibly picky, I can't stand it. And like Blakemdjohns mentions, if you try to exchange or return an item purchased with said reward, forget it -- they tell you it'll go back to your account in a few billing cycles but those things are hard to keep track of so who's to say they're really doing that? I now try to use Rewards on one item that I know I will definitely keep and ask them to ring up other purchases separately.

I do like that they give you about 6 months to use the rewards though -- JC allows much less time than that.

      Delete
    8. @Blake & TM93 - didn't know about the exchange! Good to know. I usually keep or return. And lately, I can't find anything to use my BR/GAP rewards on. $55 and counting.

  7. Completely off topic, but I have a question about whether JCrew Outlets (not Factory) still exist. Years ago, I remember shopping at the JCrew Outlet in Maine. Are they now a relic from the past? Where do all of the unsold Jcrew regular store stuff end up?

    1. I am sure Doodle will chime in as she is our clearance store guru! There are no outlets Any longer but two clearance stores. One in Lynchburg,Va and one in Arden, NC. That is where the retail overflows and returns now go. There seem to be great deals to be had but too far away for most of us.

      Delete
    2. Thank you for the info! Too bad that the clearance stores are only in VA and NC. :(

    3. JessF is exactly right. I frequent the store in Arden, NC on a regular basis. I was just there this past weekend and they are getting a lot of current merchandise. Visit if you can, it is well worth it. Also, got an email today that the warehouse sale is coming back to Arden to the distribution center on May 21 and 22. I am going to try and go but honestly they have such good deals at the clearance store, there is no longer any need to go and stand in line for a minimum of 2 hours, dig through boxes for 5 hours (trust me it can be done, time flies when you are digging for treasures), stand in line to check out for an hour and then drive home. The stores are nice and organized and very easy to shop.

  8. OT: I scored a pop back of the clip dot midi in charcoal this week. It still hasn't shipped so I'm crossing my fingers that it does, but I have started to see popbacks for the last few days.

    2. In store sale is additional 40% off. I really don't understand the inconsistencies.

    3. Isn't it final sale in store?

    4. @maqsad -- you're right, good point, the 40% off, at least in my store, is Final Sale.

  10. Small vent, but JCrew.com keeps dumping my shopping bag. It's happened several times over the last few days. I'm not going to spend time searching out each item again and re-adding it to my cart. I'm out.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I will second that advice - as long as you're logged in when the items are in your cart - log in again and it should reappear - it keeps happening to me too...very annoying!

      Delete
    2. Thank you, I will try that next time it happens. Looks like it randomly reappeared today, but I expect it will disappear again soon (not purchasing yet).
