ReplyDeleteused the "secret" code to order one of the featherweight cashmere tees. It arrived promptly. When I removed it from the plastic bag I detected a suspicious furriness on the front, more of same on the back. I know all too well that this is a precursor to pilling. Sweater is going back today.
ReplyDeletethe Bunny Tippi. same "secret" code. I love the bunny, and if they repeat it on shirts, socks, etc, as happened with the Hen and the Heart, I'm there. The very emphatic, very bright turquoise color with the small furry animal perched right at the Tippi of my, um, anatomy - not so much. Also going back. But thanks for trying, J.Crew.
Ahhhh re: the bunny Tippi. At least I know I'm not missing anything. Somebunny missed the boat on placement! (I had to do it.)
DeleteI tried on a few dresses this weekend and have reviews here. Hope they help!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy. I'm always on the lookout for great work dresses but none of those thrill me; the 9 am dress I think was the nicest. I'm a bit worried by your review of the polka dot popover since I just ordered it. Hope I like the fabric.
DeleteOT: New arrivals online at Madewell. Lots of casual, boho looks.

ReplyDeleteDecided to order several items last week during the tiered promo.
ReplyDeleteCollection sleeveless coat in ivory. This is a beautiful & substantial piece that fits tts. Didn't have any trouble with the buttons and the vest hit @ my knees. I styled with black wool BR suiting pants I've had for years & a leather front Helmut Lang top with viscose sleeves. This vest is very versatile, but for me it's too close in color to the Vince light grey leather draped vest I bought . So, I know this color isn't the choice for me; instead I should order the camel. So, I'm returning the ivory and will wait for a promo on the camel color. There's almost a full size run available so shouldn't be an issue.
New crystal navy necklace. This necklace was a fail for me; there's an asymmetric structure that I didn't catch when ordering, so returning. Even without the design issue, it's just ok IMO.
Gingham Margie pants. Ordered up 1 size, but my regular size 8 will work. Pants are cute and I like this as a casual look for summer. Will return for correct size.
Colorblock navy pompom suede flat. I'm a 10, but ordered a 9.5 since that was the only size available in the store to ship for try on. I will need a 10 for sure; the shoe is very cute, but not a must have.
Gingham linen beach tunic. So fun for summer. Fit is tts since its intended to be flowy as a coverup. Looks great with linen shorts for an alternative. Paired it with the JC navy linen drawstring shorts from last summer & a pair of James Perse white linen shorts. This will be a great piece for spring and summer.
You got the Collection sleeveless coat, I did too! Used the tiered promo, and had a credit/reward to use, and was able to get it at a good price.
DeleteI bought the camel color but I also want to try the ivory - size 0 is sold out. I am stalking the site for a pop-back.
Wish I had ordered the camel instead :( . So happy for you! That turned out to be a great deal & good luck on finding the ivory.
DeleteOT: Check out my J. Crew NYFW Recap, Part I I had a blast! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing, Rynetta! Glad you had a great time.
Deletejan: it really was! Thank you SO much!!!
DeleteThanks for sharing your photos!
Deletecarmencatalina: my pleasure! You're welcome!
DeleteI got the Teddie in the paneled geometric jacquard!
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is really beautiful. Very heavy, no sheen. Almost like a denim or heavy canvas, so casual. But the pattern is really lovely, especially for someone like myself who loves black and white and geometrics.
The fit--my smaller size in the regular black teddies fit, but they are more fitted in the thighs here (or maybe not more but there's no stretch). The larger of my two sizes fit. I wonder though, after wearing for a few minutes, if the fabric will stretch out a little as it seemed to do.
I'll post pics on my IG @wearthislikethis.
I love them but not sure I will keep them. I need to think how I will wear them. The fabric works for year round, I tried on with a black turtleneck, but would maybe add a chambray shirt underneath. Not sure about shoes.
I also got the collection wide leg in Italian wool. They're so beautiful but the size is just a touch tighter than I like in the hip, which I knew was a possibility but the smaller size was all that was available. Since I have the regular ones in black anyway they're not a need.
I should add, a plain black suede pointy toe pump or flats would be great with these teddies, which I don't have. I tried on with a leopard pump which can work, and black flats. My pointy black flats have an ankle strap and I don't think they're quite right. (In the pic I'm wearing the Ava ballet flats.)
DeleteYou need a pointy black pump!
DeleteI have the black suede Dulci and find that for me it is the PERFECT pointy black pump! Size down one half size though.
DeleteI received one of the new Jackie cardigans today. I'll be interested to hear other opinions on this re-do. I got the new emerald color and was hoping it would be close to my favorite seashore green Jackie from 2009 or 2010. The new emerald is more green, but it's still in the blue-green color family. The label says 66% cotton, 29% nylon and 5% elastane. The old sweater had 5% spandex, but everything else was the same. Here's the funny part: "Contains non-textile parts of animal origin." Is this a roundabout way to talk about the buttons which look like shell underneath? I prefer the old buttons which looked more vintage style, but the new ones are not as cheap looking as I feared. I don't think the new sweater is quite as soft and it's a little thinner, but it's not like some of those tissue thin cardigans I remember from several years back. I took my usual size XS and that seems fine. I guess I would give the sweater a B+ at this point, though the real test will be pilling. My old seashore green card still looks pretty good and I've given it quite a workout.
ReplyDeleteSince it's relevant to fit, I'm going to precede my reviews by noting that my body type is straight up and down, with no curves or chest. I typically wear XXS/00 for most items, but size up to XS/0 for basic tees and tanks (I can fit in my 'usual' size, technically, but it looks obviously tight).
ReplyDeleteLong-sleeve garment-dyed pocket t-shirt (F0940) - There were a number of these in the final sale section, and I tried it on in the Spicy Jade colour (which was nice, washed-out without looking overly worn, good for spring or summer) in both XXS and XS. I found the XXS 'fit', but obviously looked tight, but sizing up to an XS with my body shape didn't work -- it was looser, but rather than looking casual, it looked weirdly frumpy on me, like I was wearing a sack. Also, the fabric is thin, so ever with the looser fit, you could still see the outline of my tank top and jeans hardware underneath. It was also longer than I would have thought based on the photo online, almost tunic length, at least on me (I'm around 5'3", and I think I have a short torso, but I'm not sure). I also noticed the seams starting to come loose on the odd shirt on the rack.
Midweight striped boatneck t-shirt (E8773) - I'd been eyeing the red and white version of this for awhile and tried that and the navy/white one. I love the weight of the fabric and the way the boatneck neckline is cut (I think it's higher and straighter than the usual boatneck, at least compared to other shirts I own). Good proportions, in terms of stripe widths. I recall there being some worries about it being short enough to be crop-length, but I found both the body and sleeve length to be fine on me (though again, I think I have a short torso). However, while I know it's supposed to be more of a 'swing' fit, and therefore boxy rather than fitted, it was kind of wide on my body type to the point where you could see the side seams from the front at times, which was weird. Still, I liked it enough that I got the red/white one anyway as a looser striped shirt option (and I don't have a red/white shirt yet, plus this one didn't come off as too candy cane-like for me, and I think it would work for all seasons). I left the navy/white one, partly because of the fit, and I figure I'd rather hold out for a more fitted version, especially with that colour combination being very common anyway.
Oh, and I got my 'usual' XXS size for the midweight striped boatneck t-shirt. I think if I had gone up, it would have been definitely too boxy, and aside from not wanting to order online as a Canadian, I thought sizing down would have been weird if the shirt wasn't supposed to be fitted anyway.
DeleteThanks for your reviews, Xan. I have one of those garment-dyed long sleeve tees on its way to me (Final sale, but cheap enough that it's not a terrible loss of it doesn't work out.) I know EXACTLY what you mean in terms of sizing with tops like these - I had the same exact issue with a recent order of l/s drapey tees. My 'usual' size felt baggy in the back and long (I'm 4'11" tho), while the next size down felt/looked too tight. Ended up returning. I've resisted those cute striped boatnecks, only bc I still have some that work from Banana.
DeleteYou're welcome! Hopefully the garment-dyed tees work out better for you (to be fair, I'd consider getting one myself at some point, just probably not at the current price point with the way they fitted), and I'm glad someone else gets the fit issues. I think at your height, the shirt could end up on the long side -- like I mentioned, that was the biggest surprise for me, and I ended up abandoning the idea of tucking it into my jeans.
DeleteMy complaint with the long sleeve garment dyed tees is how frumpy they look after being washed. I am usually an XXS but sized up in these to ab XS because I was worried about shrinkage. On the other hand I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about the drapy tees. They are polished enough to wear as a stand alone to work, thin enough to layer, smooth and soft! I went up to an XS in these and initially only got the black, however, I now one one of each color they are so amazing. Plus the sale price makes them even more appealing!
DeleteI tried the teddie in jacquard on again and though I really like the pants on I can't figure the shoe situation out. A high heel isn't always feasible. I tried them with the cocoon
ReplyDeleteShirt in black from last summer and it looks good but not sure about the footwear.
Delete@Suz have you tried pointy toe flats? Or something low like the Dulci heel? I tend to migrate towards pointy toe flats with a pant like this if I'm not doing heels. I think a loafer might be too severe but you could try that too! They are beautiful pants, I hope you can make them work.
DeleteI did but they have an ankle strap and I wasn't sure if it competed with the hem of the pants. However, in both pics I've seen the pants are worn with an ankle strap sandal. I'll have to try them again.
DeleteThe pants look fantastic on you! You'll find the perfect shoe for them.

Lucite necklace - I really like it, it's a nice color, lightweight, and fun to wear.
ReplyDeleteItalian Cece shoes, leather. These are nice, too. I never bought the originals, I think I was apprehensive about the elastic near the toe box, but it's not a problem really. True to size. The sticker on the bottom of the shoe indicates leather upper, synthetic insole, and synthetic sole. There is a little interior wedge and they are comfortable. The fit is good!
I forgot to mention that on the lucite necklace, the hardware appears to be lightweight too, not sure it's really metal? Therefore it does cheapen it a bit in my opinion (I make jewelry myself so maybe I'm unduly critical of that sort of thing.) Still, not a deal breaker for me. The lucite chain is pretty and unlike anything I have in my collection. :-)
DeleteQuestion for those of you with the Gemma Glitter flats. The leather Gemmas I tried in store didn't fit my feet properly so I took a chance and sized down in the fabric. The length is just right but the shoe is a touch wide for my not at all narrow feet. They're fine but might fall off of they stretch much. Does the material stretch out? I loved the shape the minute I saw them last summer and have been so disappointed that they couldn't fit my feet, so I'm hoping these work. (FWIW, in the old Ceces and Ava's and Kikis I'm a 9, I took these in an 8.5.)
