  1. Putting lots in my online bag today, without checking out...a new form of retail therapy for me :) I'm evaluating the excess that is my closet in this new year, and trying not to buy anything else unless it fills a gap. Definitely don't need any new sweaters (but some are SO tempting)! Gotta love a price adjustment. Oh, and that a ride along pair of socks from my last order (yeah, I know) was shipped separately... Happy shopping, JCA's!

  2. OT-Got an email for a Sneak Peek at Madewell's Spring offerings.

    1. What did you think? I was not a fan of any of it.

    2. Most of it looks a little too "free people" or boho for my taste, but I like those flat lace up sandals some of the models wear, I also like the high rises wide leg crops, and that black mini skirt (shown with the striped shirt).

    3. Same here -- a bit too boho for me. But Madewell always seems to have a few offerings that work well with my modern/classic style, and I'll be eager to see what else is included in their spring rollouts.

    4. I like just a few things: the short sleeve button down(?? too over-sized), sleeveless sweater tank. The cropped wide leg pants shown with the sweater tank look nice on the model, but won't be great on my short self.

    5. there's a few things i actually liked and am tempted to pre-order... i can see the "free people" reference tho.

    6. That robe is extra free people but right up my alley ha.

  3. Lots in my cart but final sale makes it tough to pull the trigger, even though I think my store would accept returns it's too risky if suddenly procedures change, etc. I still scratch my head about how anything gets purchased final sale when most of it is not in stores for anyone to have seen IRL and sizing is so inconsistent.
    What's tempting me:
-the suede Elsies with the enamel heel in Kraft brown. My concern is the color doesn't work with my skin tone.
-the patent Harper in black or the nude color. Shoe sizing has been very inconsistent so it's a risk, and even $72 is not a steal. I do love a pointy toe flat though.
-pull on lace pant. So tempted but not sure the elastic waist will be good for me. My size keeps popping back.
-cropped white popover. (I think that's what it's called, also in denim and a stripe). I just think it would be great with high rise pants.
-Either of the darker plaid shirts, (Stewart or Thomas mason).
-wide leg full length pant in glen plaid--I tried these and preferred the black but the price is really good and the pants are beautiful.
-Rhodes blazer in puppy tooth. I like the smaller scale of the houndstooth and the yellow collar.

Also tempted by that asymmetrical zip trench in the aqua color. But most reviews are not great. Since I mostly wear black I think it would be a fun addition to my wardrobe but even at a great price final sale is a risk to me.

    1. Def do not buy lace pants without trying on...I tried my size in store and waist was ok but legs were super huge and baggy. Looked horrible...Cute design and would be great if pants legs were cut slimmer.

    2. Agree with RN. The lace pants are cute in theory, but the fit - at least for me - was way off. Too baggy in the thighs and the cut was not slim enough.

    3. @Suz Has, OT..do you have pics posted anywhere? I've read your comments on how you paired things and was curious to see how they looked (especially the Rayner wide leg pants..) Thank you!

    4. I don't really. I have an Instagram and a blog called wearthislikethis but haven't posted pics! Maybe you will inspire me.

    5. And from hearing comments above and seeing OperaRach's pics, I think it's possible the lace pants would look more "Florida grandma" than chic on my sort of skinny with a booty frame.

    6. @Suz Has, thank you! Your reviews have given inspiration and ideas..I even got some items bc you raved about them (fingers crossed they will look good on me to).
On your "ponderings" about getting FS items..I placed orders for a few items relying on reviews and so far, everything is spot on (received today a Saint James T-shirt (5*perfection :) & Thomas Mason in Stewart Plaid (nice) . Sale prices were more in line with the quality we are getting from JC which made sense to order a few things now .. ordered but haven't received yet the rayner wide legs(your fault:), lace pants(wild gamble/mixed reviews) and A-line collection skirt. The caged bow flats in snakeskin leather
(aren't italian but made in Morocco- ok, not outstanding, but they also fit based on reviews).
      Hope it helps.

    7. How did you find the Thomas mason in the Stewart plaid (or whatever that black based plaid is) fit? The Stewart plaid shirt (the larger scale) ran so small on me. Im usually a 0-2 in shirts (00 in some from the summer) and I felt the 4 was even a bit snug across the back, plus it was boxy. But I have a black and white gingham Thomas mason tuxedo shirt and I think it's a 2 and a little loose.

I hope you like the Rayner jeans! What a great price! I also think (this is my theory!) that all the low rise pants we've been wearing for the past dozen years makes us forget about our ab muscles a bit. Having a belt around your waist (or close to it) makes you more conscious of holding it in--which helps to maintain better posture and alignment. As a long waisted person I do sometimes have issues with high waisted pants but the ones I've gotten this season all seem to be very flattering.

    8. The other item I've been eyeing is the metallic tweed blazer, in the ivory color. My store had some but only larger petite sizes, so I didn't even bother trying. I just think it would be such a cute look for the spring with distressed denim and metallic shoes (or glitter Elsies!). I love the style but have such a long narrow torso I'm concerned about the fit...even though price is great. So with almost $1000 worth of stuff in my bag, not that I'd end up keeping all of it, but because of final sale I might only spend...nothing.

    9. @Suz Has, on the Thomas Mason Stewart plaid shirt in black- reviews said it ran small.. I sized up but think my reg size could have been ok. I will wear it as it is slightly loose but not overly so.
I'm waiting for the JC Stewart Plaid (larger scale) and on that one I sized up two sizes with hopes it will be a fitted look.

On your assessment about the correlation between low risers/looser fits and improper posture (not to forget expanding waistlines that only a fitted piece will remind you ).. I couldn't agree more. Well said.

Hope you find your tweed blazer.. keep looking as popbacks are way too common. Best of luck!

    10. Hi, a little late chiming in here but I'd skip the Harper flats. I have a patent pair from last year and they are so incredibly painful. I've tried everything to break them in and they just rub my feet in the worst places and literally are only good for sitting. I have the garnet colored pair from last year and they're beautiful but they hurt.

I have the pull on lace pants - tried them on in my store on a whim as they had a return. I'm usually a 14 in J.Crew suiting, 12 in Minnies, and these were a 10 tall - perfect slim fit. However, I have a smaller waist, bigger hips and my legs are anything but skinny so I can see why maybe others found these loose. I did order the 12 for comparison and they fit worse than the 10Ts...a little too short and tight. So weird. If you can get measurements and try more than one size (minus final sale I would recommend that.) I have a few pictures of the lace pants on my blog here. Last photo in the post. They are really pretty pants - I've already worn a few times and gotten multiple compliments.

    11. Thanks Nan & Anne! Anne, I saw a pic of you in the lace pants! They look great. And thanks for the tip on the Harpers. I don't need to be in pain for $72 in a flat! ;)

    12. A quick update... Just received my pull on lace pants (FS) and they fit! I ordered my regular size but in Tall . Maybe the T version is slimmer(?)..I never got to try them in stores so I wouldn't know. Very happy!
The collection A-line mid skirt (peach gossamer).. Beautiful fabric and very well made. Also, never saw one of those @ my B&M.. ordered my size. Both gambles paid off.
      Hope it helps!

  4. Waffle tees were being marked down tonight in store and also the navy perfect shirt with silver polka dots. I am sure they will be marked down online tomorrow. I picked up the navy/white waffle tee. I needed another striped tee...right?

  5. Two new reviews on Gigi's Gone Shopping. The Campbell sparkle Donegal blazer & swiss-dot flutter sleeve top.

I also saw the foil dot tops marked down to $59.99 in-store yesterday, review here.

I bought the Gemma flats in metallic gold yesterday. Very, very pretty. Like other J. Crew flats, I took my general shoe size of 7.5. I didn't size up like I do in pumps/wedges.

  6. Thanks Doodle Dachshund & Gigi - I have been waiting for the foil dot shirts to be reduced. :)

  7. Just got back from the store - it is now additional 50% off sale. :)

  8. Had the foil dot blouse in my shopping cart. No FS yesterday- but now final sale :/. Deciding if it's worth the risk.
