Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I was wondering if anyone had ordered the Demylee™ Bobby pleated fleece pant? I really wanted these, but was unwilling to spend $150+ on sweats, no matter how amazing those sweats looked. Anywho they are on sale now and I want to get them, but the only review is by a person who doesn't seem to understand they have a slight harem cut, so I don't really trust their opinion.

I was thinking of getting a M (I typically wear a 6 on bottom) since it's a more designer brand and probably cuts truer to size charts, but I'd love to hear actual experiences.

  2. I received the wide leg pants e5641 in black. They are really nice. Not lined, but a nice mid weight fabric which gives them a nice drape. I'm 5'9" and 135 lbs. and I ordered the size 6 and they fit beautifully. I'm long waisted but they still come up to my real waist. So you get a very long look. The legs are quite wide but I didn't feel the wideness made me look dumpy or short. They are nice and fitted on the waist and hips then flair (with the help of an inverted pleat in the front ) to the wide leg. They of course are too long. I don't wear heels. Why am I returning them? I will only wear them maybe once or twice a year. Seriously, they are very dramatic and I can't see wearing them to do errands or even a weekend of going about having fun. For me they would be strictly "dress up". I'm sad because I don't have the kind of lifestyle to wear something so cool....but that's the way it is. Just wanted to give you guys my review. If you're tall and slim I think they would be a great trouser to try!

    2. Thanks for the review Stray Cat! Wow, I'm sure the pants look stunning on your 5'9 self! I too wouldnt have a place to wear it to. It would probably look dumpy on me since I'm petite.

    3. Thanks for the review, Stray Cat! My first reaction was "eek, not for me," but I've been having second thoughts - and plan to remain firm in my resolve not to have my closet dress better than I do.

    4. wellfedfred.....ha! If I may I'm going to use your funny and insightful observation...."having a closet that dresses better than I do".....wow! It took me decades to stop what I called "fantasy shopping".....for that woman I wished I was. They are really nice statement making slacks....if you have a statement to make. I just don't, I guess.

    5. Haha, I feel you both. Still might keep the pants though because even a few times a year, I think they are fabulous. I'm 5'6" and mine are fine with heels. (Might need a teeny hem.)

  4. Serious question - am I the only person who isn't head over heels with the Chateau coat. I tried on the beautiful blue color in the right size (it fits in the shoulders), but the way it bells out on the bottom makes me look wide. I want to love it because it's warm and the blue is gorgeous, but I feel like I can do better.

    1. Thank goodness, I thought I was the only one that did not have a major crush on this coat :). I tried it on in store last year and felt the same way, too large on the bottom and the hood and fur overwhelmed me. But until now not willing to reveal my true feelings. I am only 5' 1", so put it down to that. And I think you can do better, I have lots of J Crew coats and feel that they are more me.

      Delete
    2. Not a chateau lover either. Regent Topcoat is more my style.

      Delete
    3. I am also not a fan. There are more of us than you think ;) I've seen it in the store and it does feel nice but it is just not for me (especially the fur hood). I have a few jcrew coats in some great colors, but I live in the south so they don't get worn much.

      Delete
    4. I really like the silhouette, but the fur on the hood is too full-circle on me.

      Delete
    5. I find it dreadful on me. love the cocoon coat, it is my favorite.

      Delete
    6. I can not stand the fur hood. Faux fur is a pet peeve of mine.

      Delete
    7. I prefer the Factory version, the Vail parka. The bell is almost non-existent at the bottom and the faux fur is less voluminous.

      Delete
    8. I love the Chateau Parka, it is my warmest J Crew coat (except for my wintress puffer); however, I don't like the fur part either. I unsnapped the fur from the hoods of both my coats and my girls now use the fur as pets :)

      Delete
    9. Is the Vail coat quality wool? I actually like it better than the Chateau because of the lack of zips on the pockets, but I have never bought anything from Factory and do not live near a factory store, so am unsure about the quality.

  5. I went to the Vancouver Robson St Black Friday "event" this morning. As discussed in yesterday's thread, the offer is 30% off regular price and 50% off sale price. The sale rack was nothing special. Same old stuff that has been there for a while now. There were no new arrivals, beyond the last rollout a couple of weeks ago. I did pick up the black suede d'orsay kitten heels. I don't think I can do better than 30% off and I got the last pair in my size in the store. I also picked up the pom pom scarf. I think it is fun and festive and I am a sucker for a good scarf. I tried the stewart plaid shirt again this time in size 6 which one size larger than my regular jcrew shirt size and I still found it to be a strange fit. On the bright side, I picked up the men's stewart plaid flannel shirt for my boyfriend. I actually like the men's version more (like the flannel and the colours seem brighter), so I can always borrow his if I feel like it! I hope that helps.

    1. Thanks Shima! Much ado about nothing...and it's not even the new stuff that's launching next Tuesday.
I still have to go today to make a return and to check out the new stuff. Haven't been to the store since the last roll-out.

      Delete
    2. No problem JSR. It was defintely a "much ado" scenario! On the bright side, I had the whole store to myself. I guess 8:00 AM is too early for most shoppers. If you are interested, they had quite a few copies of the December Style Guide which they were readily giving out. I was hoping to see some of the new items from the December Style Guide in store today but I guess that is wishful thinking. Have any other Vancouver based JCA's observed that the Vancouver stores tend to be on the slow side of getting new merchandise? I feel like we are often a couple of weeks behind in rolling out new releases.

    3. Shima - did you receive the $20 pop-back gift card for future purchases during the sale this morning? They were handing them out (after purchase) at the store I went to this morning. I, too, bought the pop pop scarf and ended up picking up one of the plaid boy-shirts, along with a sale poplin dot perfect shirt. Apparently, that is going to be the exact same Black Friday offering ( minus the pop-back $20 card)

      Delete
    4. Hi Mirielle. Lucky you! I did not get a gift card. I think the sales associates may still have been asleep when I got there!

      Delete
    5. Aww booo. Maybe they can send you one ...I mean, you did make a special morning trip and demonstrated your Jcrew hardiness! Enjoy the pom-pom scarf. Can't wait to wear mine.

    6. I'm guessing they didn't give out bounce back cards in canada - did any Canadian jca get one? I know we miss out when they give out gift cards, they only do that promo in the US.

    7. As jca and a Vancouverite....I like the Robson st store the best. I usually find we get hardly any coats and accessories seem to be less and less. C

    3. Love the long cardigan. I've been looking for a nice chunky knit one to no avail, so good timing. Also, finally an attractive fair isle sweater. I don't know how JCrew has managed to make them look fug so far.

      Delete
    4. @Jessica -- I totally agree. I love that fair isle sweater. I have no idea what has happened up to this point. J. Crew has managed to take a fairly simple concept and really muck it up so far. I was in the store this morning and I saw the two latest ones, and they really are "ouch" to the eyes. The colors are simply . . . not good (to be kind). This yet to be released one has promise.

      Delete
    5. To clarify -- the thick knit one with the grey and burgundy. Nice colors, simple design.

NOT the one with the sequins (*she runs away screaming*)

      Delete
    6. Oh yes, NOT the one with the sequins. The nice one in the last picture. I didn't even see that one at first. I must have been blocking out a traumatic fashion experience :o.

    7. Thanks for posting to IG. I picked up the same style guide this morning in store. It has the same front cover but does not have all the images that I am seeing posted on your IG. For instance the tartan Campbell Blazer and the party pants with the green sequins are not in the style guide i have. I am located in Canada and it looks like we get an edited version of the style guide. I had not realized that before.

      Delete
    8. Shima - I think Silver lining didn't get to take pics of everything from the style guide..just the ones that look cute. I'm pretty sure the style guide is not edited. I went to the SF store...no new style guide. No new stuff from the next roll-out. I'm pretty bored with SF location as far as selections go. It's a big store but it just doesn't excite me as much.

    11. Thanks silver_lining!! My first pick was the blue cowl neck sweater, then I realized that was the last one in your 2011 Holiday posts lol. Oh well, I still liked some of the new things you just posted. I'm weirdly happy they've made a crew-neck waffle top. I hope it's warm, I loved these when they had them a few years ago. They made a good first layer on cold days.

    14. Happy to help, all! Those are all I had the time to do today, if the women's images aren't loaded over the weekend I'll try to post a few more. I was also excited to see the waffle tees - my light pink one from Holiday '06 is still going strong, as well as my '07 "teddy fleece" pants that are grey sweats on the outside, grey and white stripe fleece lined on the inside. I'd love to send some of my oldies to JC for inspiration... if I thought I'd ever get them back!

  7. This is a vent and I cannot wait until vent day next week...I just got my order, the peyton smooth leather hobo and a flannel boy shirt. They came in one of the paper envelopes, the purse smushed flat stuck down in a plastic bag that didn't even cover the whole thing and the shirt was wadded up and stuck in a plastic bag as well not even taped shut. This is ridiculous. I called and complained about the packaging and I don't really think they even care. This was an order that was placed online but shipped from a store in Chicago. I so wish my stuff would have come from Lynchburg, they package items nicely and even use a box. On the bright side, the purse is gorgeous in Brocade Blue and it was on sale. Just ticks me off.

    1. Oh doodle I hear you. I bought the electric red collection dress (the wool suiting dress) and it's just gorgeous in person. An example of what JCrew could be if they executed consistently. It took over a week to ship, shipped form a NY store, and was folded up in a small square in a plastic bag then paper envelope. It's a nice dress, at a minimum hanger and box are appropriate here! I'm annoyed that I have to steam the fold marks out of it. Oh and that bag does sound gorgeous!

      Delete
    2. If you live by a JCrew they will steam for you. It's sad that you have to make the effort. I received a silk blouse, from the warehouse, in a box and it still arrived wrinkly. It was clear that it was wrinkled before the shipment, because it certainly didn't get smushed and then refolded within the box afterwards.

    1. Crewmum - The online description says select stores. My store didn't have that one. They had the fit-and-flare dress. 3. Gigi, saw your review of this and the back zip sweater, just wanted to tell you you look fabulous. The anti-inflammatory diet is working wonders. (I don't eat gluten or any meat myself, and find avoiding cheese helps too. Did you post details of the pan you're following anywhere?) For me it's not the weight but I just feel so great when I eat well!

      Delete
    4. Suzanne - Thank you! I cut out cheese about 5 years ago, but it has sneaked back in. I still eat it on occasion, but am largely cutting it out again. No, I haven't written a post on the full diet restrictions my doctor gave me, but I hope to. Even though she typed it into the computer and printed it for me, I typed everything in an Evernote. No excuses as it's always on my phone. It's pretty dismal, the restrictions, but it's forcing me to be better. Plus, as I continue to do reading about what our current food is doing to our bodies, I'm inspired to eat better. I've been more inspired to be consistent because of that newly acquired knowledge over the side benefit of weight loss.

      Delete
    5. I agree. It's really inspirational. Changing the way you eat is really hard, (I am a recovering pastaholic who went gluten free almost 3 years ago) but it's an easy way to take your health into your own hands.

  10. I stopped into one of my local stores yesterday with some returns. This particular store (Shadyside in Pittsburgh) always seems to have lots of returned items on the racks, so lots of online-only items, especially coats. I ended up getting the flannel shirt-jacket in XXS (annoying because I just ordered it in XS online and used my rewards card. But the XXS clearly fit better and I didn't want to miss out, since it sold old last year. Hopefully I can make the trade). I'm a lot more excited about than I expected to be! Nice colors, thick, can be worn many ways. I also saw the cambridge turtle neck in the loden green and loved it, though it wasn't my size, so I came home and bought it online. A customer in the store had on the new excursion vest in fair isle. In the pics I wasn't that excited about it, but it looked so cute on her that I came home and got that too, though it may be another return, we'll see after I try it on.

On a side note, I pulled the trigger on the Majesty Peacoat when they had the sale glitch that made them $158 plus 30% off, so about $110. Figured it was such a good deal that I could deal with the new changes, since I still love the stadium cloth, and I need a navy coat. Well they came yesterday (ordered 2 sizes) and I'm debating if they're even worth $110! So much less streamlined than my older charcoal gray one and even when the one that fits correctly all throughout the sleeves/body has the back vent almost entirely open. In the dark color, the multitude of pockets are less noticeable but this back vent is killing me! Debating yet another return!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, I tried it on store and did not regret taking advantage of the Majesty Peacoat price error. I am a petite hourglass. It's very hard to make me look like a rectangle. That coat is awful. I went ahead and bought an older version from Poshmark.

I stopped at my Made well the other day to check the Sezanne "picks" and I loooove the "Madame" pouch but here is my silly question: what people do with pouches (this is flat like an envelope and quite big)? What do you put inside?

      Delete
    2. Ema - That pouch is cute. I have one like it and have a lip gloss, 2 lipsticks (I layer), mascara and skin blotting papers in it. Maybe a pen, just in case, since I can never find one.

      Delete
    3. Thank you Gigi. Yes, I figured people use them mostly for makeup but this one is BIG (bigger than an envelope clutch). It seems a waste to just hide it in a bag. Maybe it is supposed to be worn as a clutch but then you can't really put anything with a bit of volume inside. Hmmmm

      Delete
    4. I have a Etienne Aigner envelope "bag" and an older Gucci envelope "bag" as well. I love them for off site work meetings, when I don't want or need to bring my entire satchel. They're large enough for notepads, business cards, receipts, parking stubs, and pens and they look professional enough for work environment. They're also light enough and clutch looking to go to lunch with without changing bags...cause I have no patience for that. I know some men carry these style document holders as well.

      Delete
    5. Ema -I didn't notice the size. That's perfect for headshots. I'd still only put the same items as I'd in a small one + my phone. And I'd remove my mini bag key chain from my keys.I agree that it would be a shame to hide it in a larger bag. Tag me if you take a pic of it.

    1. J.Crew seems to be like most other retailers in that they really mark down their coats after the holidays / toward the end of the winter season. Regardless of .99 or .00 status, markdowns are then eligible for the percentage of off sale items. Obviously there are deals to be had earlier than that, such as with the Majesty Peacoat. I've always had better luck online finding the style, color, and size I want versus in-store, which seems to have a limited selection.
