This promotion was already running in brick & mortar stores this weekend. When I stopped by my local store on Saturday, the additional percent off sale was gone. So it seems like this is the only promotion running at J.Crew right now.

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? What item are you hoping to pick up? Please share!

  1. I dropped into a Madewell store this past weekend, which is unusual for me since there is not one near my house. It had such a pleasant vibe - the brand knows its aesthetic and its customer.

I had an a-ha moment - of course Madewell is a more appealing project for Mickey. It is still a niche business, and it feels fresh. It has a great future.

J Crew, on the other hand, has grown into an unmanageable beast. In addition to its women's line, we now have Collection, Men's, Crewcuts, the Liquor Store, Wedding, third party collaborations, design partnerships with pre-schoolers, Jenna's PR, international expansion, sizes 000 and 20, Factory, IPO's, fashion week runway shows.... AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! He probably feels really overwhelmed.

Mickey has an opportunity while the company is still privately held to pare back - it might save the business. There's no shame in doing so (remember when BR sold housewares?), and I have a hunch that returning to the core businesses would bring the customers back.

    1. cousy that's interesting. I've been thinking about this since the great conversation here last week. How does JCrew come back? You're right they are all over the place. Madewell is fresh, fun, simple compared to JCrew. JCrew probably gives Mickey Drexler a giant headache!
If they pare back, get back to great fabrics (from interesting sources, their items that told a story were always so attractive) and feminine fits, there might be a chance.
I hope they don't think athleisure is going to save them!
Look at this promo, it's a good one but there isn't anything I'd like to have.:(

    2. It shows in this ( although wonderful ) blog that we are all suffering from the same fatigue Mickey is.....posts are way down unless we are complaining.

    3. "Improving" Madewell is going to ruin Madewell.

    4. There is absolutely nothing in their spring line that interests me, at any price. I don't want to pay $100 for a pair of pants that make me look like I just got out of bed. Now, maybe the 20 year olds want to look like that, but some of us who are older don't want that. They need to go back to their roots. I'll go to Gap or Old Navy. There's not much difference now in the quality IMHO. Sad days for J Crew. It needs a total reinvention.

    5. One reason I like Madewell is: Natural Fibers! I don't own a lot from there but I like shopping there and finding silk, cotton, wool.... not funny mixes that make skritchy sounds when you touch them!

  2. I want to love J Crew again, I really do. However, went to both Factory and retail stores this weekend and bought exactly one shirt. I'm not feeling it. I would like some new tees/summer sweaters but nothing is really appealing to me at all. Factory was just horrible; I used to have a gigantic pile to take to the fitting room. Now I just can't get past all of the terrible feeling fabrics. Almost everything felt "chintzy" to me. J Crew really needs to get back to quality. I'm willing to pay for it. I am not willing to buy another cheapie questionable blend tee or sweater and have it pilling after one wear.

  3. As mentioned by my in-store VSP, she sent an email last week that there were new items out in the stores today. Perhaps online Wednesday? Either way, I took back almost a dozen items (most collection) last week. I am so disappointed. Pretty prints -but strange fabric and fit. The sleeves stick out straight from my shoulders, not really cap sleeves, not really tank tops. I have never had such a huge return bag. And right now there is nothing to even tempt me to buy. I'll just hold out for new roll outs and see if there's anything to love.

  6. I placed an order this morning - trying the cropped patio trouser in California poppy and the rolled pocket sleeve stripe tee. Curious to try some of the wider leg crops and the pants have very good reviews (and were already low stock in my size).

    1. Anne, I am curious to see if you like the cropped patio trouser - I ended up getting it in both colors and love it, but it seems like such a specific fit, that I'm surprised it has sold as well as it did. The California poppy color is lovely!

    2. @carmencatalina I hope I like them...I'm tall, but curvy, and now am thinking maybe I should have gone with navy since those are more versatile. I will report back!

    3. Does anyone know is stores are currently offering 40% off sale items?

  7. My stores in NYC are running 40% off sale items, not sure if it's the same in other areas.

  8. Based on past experience, how does this promotion work if you buy multiple items online over $200 but return some, still spending over $100? Will it be the 25% off? I'm okay with just getting 25% off, but I don't want to not have the items be on sale.

As background, I bought the toothpick jean in grey dove wash and really like the fit and am now contemplating some other colors of jeans but they make it so difficult because the others I look at are also have "cone denim" in the name. What does that even mean? I'm usually borderline in sizes and the grey ones based on reviews "run large" but others "run small" so I am thinking of just buying two sizes and then returning the one that doesn't fit (or both if they are somehow crazy).
