JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I decided to bite on the Firework Floral skirt. I received it yesterday, and it's beautiful. But there's the thing: I thought the darker color in the skirt was navy blue, and it's actually black. Gah!! I already mentally prepared outfits with navy pieces. Not what? I suppose I can pair it with a chambray or white button-down shirt, in addition to grey or black tops. But the model on the Web site is wearing a navy top with it, and it seems to look OK...

    1. This happens to me with many J Crew items. It is really difficult to tell if it is black or navy when it is used in a print. Often times I think it is one color get dressed and drive to work. When I am in the car in the natural light it now seems I chose the incorrect color. In the end I don't think anyone notices but me as it is pretty close. It still makes me mad as I am one of those weird matchy matchy people.

    2. I would wear navy and not think twice.

    3. Are you sure it's not navy? Like Jess F said, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference (especially with jcrew's navy because it's very dark). Either way, I agree with rcb about wearing navy and not thinking twice. I have seen this skirt styled some cute ways on Instagram. My favorites were with the silk navy/white striped tank (which I don't see on the website right now) and the other with a blue/white gingham shirt (on Lisa from her 'Respect the Shoes' blog).

    4. I'm almost positive it's black. And I know JC is famous for their dark, dark "is that really navy?" navy. The flowers have a grey outline, which basically is just a lighter version of the darker color, so to me it definitely looks black. But I will compare it against my black and Tippi sweaters one last time just to make sure! And great idea about looking for inspiration on IG.

    5. Donna Karan made a lot of things in a "black navy," and they didn't go with any of the navy or any of the black that I had - they only went with other DK black navy pieces.

So if your dark navy pieces work with the print, consider yourself lucky!

  2. Thanks, JenniferD! I have a navy gingham shirt, so maybe that's an option...
