"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I'd had success with the Maddie pant being a good fit for me so I bought navy and black, and when the "saddle" colorway was marked down with a percentage off I grabbed it. Imagine my shock when I put them and discovered that they fit nearly a full size smaller than my other pairs. No wonder the saddle is marked down far more than the other colors!

    1. Greetings Hexicon - A sales associate (from another non-JC store where I brought back some pants with a similar issue) explained the manufacturing process to me. Many layers of fabric (to make the front or the back of the garment) are laid on top of one another, then they are cut together, not individually. This results in variations in the fit. I do not know if this is JC's process, but it explained the mystery of why several pants all in the same size have differences in the waist, hips, length, or just overall (for that store). I've learned to order multiples of my desired size so I can keep the best fitting garment. This won't solve your problem, but it may explain why, at least. Cheers - Jennifer

    2. I ordered the Maddie pant in the Japanese Wool pinstripe and then held my breath they would fit. Some reviews said they ran as many as two sizes too small but happily my regular size fit just perfect. I would recommend the pinstripe if you like this style pant. They are very soft and comfortable and they are on sale.

  2. This happened to me with a factory sweatshirt. I have two different color ways already and ordered a third when it went on (final) sale. It is at least two inches smaller all the way around. I'm contacting J Crew today to inform them I will be returning it, final sale or not!

    2. Same - Madewell has been especially bad lately for me. I ordered some t-shirts and each one came in a separate package.

    3. They do this because items ship from seperate stores. If they were to consolidate all packages in one location before shipping them out, shipping would take even longer, and if they didn't ship from stores, inventory would always run out before anyone could by anything. What would you prefer, a month to get your package, no package at all, or multiple boxes?

  4. mini Madewell rant here: I posted a very negative review about a backpack. In the review I said something like "no better than a $19.99 backpack from Target". They didn't post the review, so I wrote ANOTHER one saying "I don't know why they won't post my previous negative review, but here's another try....". I also emailed CS and asked. They said it was because I'd said "Target" (in my 2nd review I had changed it to "big box store"), they said they could put up my 2nd review if I edited out the thing about "don't know why they won't post my review". uh, no thanks!!!! I've wasted enough time already!!!! And may I add if you post a review on the Target website and you mention another brand or store, THEY just delete or dash it out FOR YOU. Geez, madewell!

  5. Not about the store, but I find it really irritating when JC removes comments from its FB posts that are critical. If it's a customer service rant they will reply and leave it up, but I have repeatedly seen then take down comments that are negative about the direction of JC styles or that complain that the models are too skinny.
