This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale
items at our
various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If
you are stopping
by a J.Crew store this weekend to see
what's available (if
anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in
person, maybe you might be
willing to share that with us in this
post. In particular, if you could
share with us a few of the
noteworthy items that are available, at
what prices, and potential sizes
the store is carrying (as well
as the store location)- that would be
fantastic!
Also,
please let us know if your local store is
carrying an additional percent
off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
P.S.
I noticed that many of
you have already been reporting sale
items (and in which stores) in
other posts which by the way "thank
you!" :) I really appreciate how
helpful we are for each other!
I'm hoping JCAs that are going to the pre-Black Friday event report back this morning.
ReplyDeleteReviews here of the pleated bib top, pleated bib top in stripe ($29.99 in-store & online) & mohair cardigan ($59.99 in-store & online).
I went by about 8:30 this morning. I was the only one there. I got a great doughnut and picked up a couple of items, a sale sweater and the abstract fair isle scarf. My VPS invited me and I just couldn't say no. The sale was still 40% off and everything else was 30% off. The sign said selected items but during the special promo, it was everything. Next time, do biscuits and gravy JCrew and maybe more people will come. :)
DeleteYour store was doing 40% off? My store was 30. I ended up going in the evening. They were also doing an extra 15% off on top of the 30, so basically that equates to the same discount. My store was serving various refreshments and cupcakes.
DeleteI picked up a brand new item that didn't hit online yet. It's a sequined knit top similar to the Ruffle Hem sweatshirt, except it's trimmed in sequins. It's super cute! I snagged it in blush pink and navy. Great layering piece.
Heather
Partial to Pink
going to store today to do a return -- hope there is some good % off sale section!!
ReplyDeleteIt's true! At least they are open. I didn't go in because everyone in the street was busy dropping off kids to school and going to work but I will go in a little while and report back.
ReplyDeleteI just called a local store and was told the promo was only for the store's top 100 customers and that one would have to show the invitation in order to receive the promotion.
ReplyDeleteKnit Yarns - They're not understanding the promo. That's not true. You don't have to show an email. There are no exclusions on who is eligible to receive the promotion. The limitation is that it ends at 10am. Perhaps tey need to talk to another store to verify.
DeleteI find this promo off-putting. Confirmed by the attitude KnitYarns received. I may just order online or email my VPS and see if she will match (without me going in).
Deletercb.shops - Here's the thing about the promo. The discount was never mentioned in writing. It simply said :
Delete"Get a headstart on holiday shopping with access to our Black Friday event (a week early)."
It lists the time as the event from 8a - 10a.
The promo is special if there are regular price items you want that aren't currently 30% off w/SHOPNOW. If those are items you're looking for, they will still be 30% off thru 11/23, per the email I just recvd (subject line: More holiday dos and don'ts). The 30% off select items isn't valid in the 769 Madison Avenue store, Liquor Store or Ludlow Shops.
@gigi, I gotcha. Irks me even more the promo is "secret." I think I will do my returns later and march right out. That'll show them - ha!
DeleteThe GSP store manager also told me that it's a "private" event and that the list was limited to those invited by VSPs.
Deletercb.shops - The word secret was never mentioned in the email, just to be clear. They said early access and don't mention the promo terms, hoping that will bring people into the store. The bait trick. I just happened to have a couple of people share it with me, so I shared it here. :) I do feel you on the exclusionary culture that J. Crew sometimes to perpetuate. It doesn't really work in the era of social media.
Delete@gigi - I get it, but it operates as a secret promo, which of course is not secret anyway. No matter, we will basically get the last laugh anyway as I suspect there isn't much that won't get reduced further in the coming weeks.
Deletercb.shop - I totally hear you and totally agree. Just spill the tea already, J. Crew. They need all the help they can get with sales. A glance at the sale section blares that info. I remember last year so many things went to dirty dirt cheap in-store around the holidays. And if I recall correctly, they bumped the sale section promo to addl 50% off.
DeleteYeah, I'm with rcb.shops on this one. It would different if the sale was for cardholders only (and I'm not a cardholder) but to say it's for the store's top 100 customers and make it all secretive is just annoying! Plus, it would take more than 30% off to drag my baby and toddler to a store before 10am ;)
DeleteI went and I thought it was very nice. I didn't get the email that Gigi showed. I got a personal email from the manager at my store and it did state the terms of the promotion. I thought it was fun to have the store and associates available for just a few people. The customers were all very nice and helpful to each other as were the associates. That said, there were only a handful of us in there and none of us made any big purchases. It was more like a fun hang out, try on clothes, eat doughnuts, and make some new girlfriends. Everyone was relaxed, comfortable, and having fun. However, I can't imagine that I would be one of their top 100 customers! I think I just have a good relationship with the manager.
DeleteI forgot to mention that I was invited to a similar event at Madewell on Sunday from 11-12. They said their Black Friday promotion would be 25% off.
DeleteI thought it was nice too. I didn't make a big purchase, but was able to do an exchange and buy a necklace. Also, it was kind of nice browsing with a cup of starbucks and a boston creme donut in my hand. :)
DeleteGoing to the store to return stuff...also checking out the sale section to see what got marked down.
ReplyDeleteNo visit to the store for me. I'm still waiting to receive the wool plaid scarf I ordered with the last promo and free shipping...seems to take forever to get my orders now. The scarf actually shipped from a store in Los Angeles, so if it isn't in pristine condition I'll be sending it back. Also hoping they'll change the sale section promo online to 40% off. Free shipping would be nice, too. :)
ReplyDeleteOT: Madewell added new arrivals to the website earlier this week. I've shared What I'm Loving from the latest additions in this post.
Melissa, there must be a delay in scarf shipments this year. My scarf purchase from Madewell is late because of a UPS trailer issue.
DeleteUpdate on this morning's promo. Stores still haven't opened where I am, but what I hear is:
ReplyDelete30% off storewide
40% off sale items, addtl 30% DOES NOT apply
You DO NOT need to show an email to receive the discount.
The discount ends at 10am.
Good luck to all that go and don't let anyone punk you. Sometimes they misunderstand the promotions and start pushing back when stressed. If that's the case, just nicely ask if they can check to be sure.
p.s. I imagine the addtl 40% off sale items will still be in effect (after 10am ) as it has been the past few weeks.
DeleteIMO, the deals are only going to get better. There's still a Holiday rollout next week (JC's Pinterest page has some boards for Gift Guides set up - no images yet), which means a lot of FP stuff will probably be marked down by Black Friday, with an additional % off then. Things are going to promo so quickly nowadays that even 30% off FP seems high unless it's something you want immediately.
ReplyDeletesilver_lining - I was just going to crack that joke. Everything will get marked down before Christmas. As the deals get better and better, returns will be made. I don't know why the stores are doing BF promos now. They're just creating return lines earlier than usual.
Deleteso....I am really confused by this "secret" promo. So I will not be going...so there J Crew you just tick off another shopper just before the biggest shopping season of the year.......
DeleteI agree totally confusing promo. I got the email, they mentioned opening early 8-10 am, donuts and coffee and reference to Black Friday event. But certainly no details on what the Black Friday event was. I agree with others, prices are going to be falling from this point on. Too bad J Crew has very little that I am interested in purchasing.
DeleteI went this morning - at least at my store (canada), sale was an additional 50% off (advertised was 40%, but my VPS did send me an email saying that it would be 50% today and tomorrow and then again on Black Friday - not sure if it's a secret sale). While I agree prices will fall, my store doesn't get huge quantities of items in (and doesn't get a full size run on some items), so I shopped. I was happy with the prices I paid for Christmas presents ($10, $15, $25 for dress shirts for men). As Rynetta mentioned on her IG, with a purchase, you will receive a coupon for $20 off $100 purchase good now until January 4.
DeleteI'm not really feeling the discounts because I guess there have already been enough for me to take advantage of and I'm kind of shopped out. I might be tempted by a steep discount on a coat that's not final sale but otherwise I'm sitting this out.
ReplyDeleteTeriLynn13 - Some people shop and ship gifts, so the promo is good for those that want to get things in the mail before the lines begin a USPS. There are a few things I've been interested in, but still waiting out.
DeleteThat's such a great point!
DeleteA review of the Sophie Checkered Loafers in this post HTH!
ReplyDeleteI put this on the Looking to Love post, but I'm going to add it here, as well:
ReplyDeleteI guess this is as good a place as any to put this...
I had a LOVE(LY) conversation with one of the managers at the Garden State Plaza store yesterday, and he told me that they're having a charity event today (Friday) from 4-8pm and on Saturday from 10am-2pm. If your purchase totals $150 or more, you get an additional 15% off, and this can be stacked on top of any other promotions on regular price or sale merchandise in the store. 10% of all sales will go directly to CASA of Bergen County (http://www.bergencasa.org/). From their website, "Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Bergen County is an independent, nonprofit organization of professionals and trained volunteers who have been appointed by the NJ Family Court to advocate for children removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect. CASA works to ensure that needed services and assistance are made available to these children while helping to move them toward safe and permanent homes." This is a great cause, and delicious mini cupcakes will also be served. :)
I asked if the event was only in-store, and he said that no, they would also take orders over the phone, so if you've been waiting for an extra special promo to pick up some new holiday items (and remember, GSP is one rollout ahead of any of the other stores), this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for. The phone number for GSP is (201)845-9292. Riverside Square (201)489-5180 and Tice's Corner (201)391-4123 will also be participating.
It's always nice to have something new to wear, but it also feels great to give back!
Returns again.....I have only kept one shirt since Sept. no sweaters. no coats. no skirts or dresses. no jewelery and no shoes. what a sad season of roll outs.
ReplyDeleteNo visit for me, as I am clearly not a top 100 customer :)
ReplyDeleteIs it possible that the Sophie elephant loafers are already sold out? Can somebody comment on sizing, and whether these are still available at your store? My store doesn't have them. I wear an 8 in mostly everything, except for Martinas (8h) and Cleos (7h). What do you ladies think, should I go with a 7h or even a 7, since reviews claim these run large? That is, if a pop back is to be found!
Anthro Blogger: those shoes are online only. A VPS or store associate should be able to see if someone returned them to a retail store. HTH!!!!
DeleteAnd, see below!!!!
DeleteTotally off topic, but I ordered the Sophie Elephant Parade Loafers in my normal flats size 7 and they are too long. I need a 6H, maybe even a 6. Since they are sold out, if anyone is interested in purchasing the size 7 I have, I will sell them for $156 including shipping and tracking. US shipping only. Paypal only. Contact me at BeachChicGirl@Gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteWent to do my returns at Michigan Avenue just now and walked out with nothing new. Sale was still 40% off. Lots of things were promo priced at 30% off but not like it was during the special event this morning. I noticed in case jewelry was 30%, for instance, but didn't pay close attention to all of the (many) other signs. I tried on some of the sale cashmere but even with good prices ultimately left it all there - looked shop worn and I may have hit cashmere saturation anyway.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the covered button crepe blouse in black. It did not get a lot of love from the community but it is a beauty in my book. However, I only got to wear it twice before my hubby grabbed it and threw it in the washer AND dryer. Please help! They are in very short supply so if anyone sees the black in a size 12, please give a me a shout. Much, much, much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Rashawnda - Good grief, what are you doing letting your husband near the laundry! Two suggestions. First, call Customer Service, or a VPS (both numbers are on the website) to see if you can be put on the 30-day list for this item. I heard J.Crew was phasing out this service, and generally doesn't do it for sale items, but I've been put on this list for a couple items that I ordered, got a "Sorry, we're sold out" e-mail, but lo and behold, they were found again and I got them (wheee!). Second, stalk the website, preferably in the early morning after the overnight refresh. Throw it in the bag along with a few other items already in your wishlist (or the bag) so you can get free shipping (or $5.00 shipping charge be dammed!), punch in whatever promotion code is being offered, and hopefully it will be yours. This has worked for a couple of items for me, but you have to be diligent and have a fast smartphone. And in the future, keep your husband away from your clothes! I have that blouse in several colors (sorry, not your size 12) and love it, so I mourn your loss. Good luck! Jennifer
DeleteOne last thing . . . if you like the style of the blouse, but are not married to the J.Crew label on it, browse some other retailers. Banana Republic offers a Dark Silk Blouse and Dark Silk Tunic that are similar and might be a (sniff!) substitution you can live with. Jennifer
DeleteThank you! I tried CS and then tried calling stores across half the country on my own on the hunt and keep coming up short. I can find the other colors but the black keeps escaping my grasp. I will try again b/c I know it is out there for me. I was just hoping that someone might come across that "ONE" in store that all S/As keep saying that some other store has.
DeleteYeah, I've experienced this a few times where an item I'm looking for is sold out on the website. CS can sometimes tell me if and where a B&M has it, but I have better luck calling a local B&M who apparently have special iPad superpowers and can give me better information on local (and non-local stores) that may carry the item. I've gotten several items this way, and SAs have always been great about holding the item in a local store or the charge-send option when the store is out of my immediate driving distance. I hope Santa (or your gift-giving icon of choice) delivers it to you for the holidays! Jennifer
DeletePopped in to the Sherway store on my way home today. 30% storewide, sale section 40%. I keep trying on the Bliss sweater as I love it but just know it's going to hit sale soon. Tried the ruffle-hem sweatshirt - fail fail fail - it is weirdly short and wide, Anthro does this sort of thing much better. Hello Goodbye t-shirt is basically transparent, btw. Only came away with a much-marked-down doubleknit cardigan, purchased as an Xmas gift (if she hates it, I get to keep it as I really like this one myself...)
ReplyDeletecagliari67 - Totally agree about hello goodbye & the ruffle-hem. I'm editing the photos right now. Tried them on today. (sigh)
DeleteI saw the ruffle hem sweatshirt today, too. It's cute but not on adults. It's best for crewcuts.
DeleteReview here of the ruffle hem sweatshirt. All three colors.
ReplyDeleteJSR - It's very Forever 21. It's nice to see a ruffle back in action, but on a basic Russell Athletic type of sweatshirt w/drop shoulders and big sleeves?
SMH...how did this get approved?
Deletedown right hideous (sorry if this is too blunt )
DeleteJSR - That's a good question. Maybe the team has trusted some of the senior designers a little too much. Everyone can use another pair of eyes or two to fine tune things.
DeleteUnknown - I don't take it personal. Y, I could get into using my gym membership again and that would help with how things look on me. However, I'm reviewing for fit and quality discussion. I have the same body when I try on Loft clothing and things look 100x better. They have better cut items right now, as do other retailers. They went down the wrong road chasing a younger customer. Turn around already!
gigi....I did not mean hideous on you ! It is just the sweatshirt that is ! your reviews are sooo much appreciated.
DeleteUnknown -- We're good! No worries. I took it to mean not loving the ruffle top ;)
DeleteThought I'd share this again, if anyone missed it..
ReplyDeleteI read from a fellow JCA who let us know about an interview with Jenna Lyons from CBS. Jenna, what do you have to say about those low profits?
Here is the link:
http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/creative-director-jenna-lyons-on-creating-j-crews-unique-look/
Also...sharing a photo of Jenna who went to Solange's wedding at New Orleans over the weekend. Jenna looks dreamy in her feather skirt. Thumbsdown on the fur though..wonder if its faux.
http://www.elle.com/news/fashion-style/jenna-lyons-looked-perfect-at-solange-wedding
The interviewer looks very nice in the new arrival....stripe dress. Is Jenna wearing that Juan ?? collabration designer. blue tie neck blouse ??
DeleteYes she's was, with high waisted jeans. She's looking tired in that interview.
DeleteOT, but I am having a major fashion dilemma. I bought the wool melton bib coat in vintage pine and was soooooo excited, because I've been waiting season after season for a dark green short wool coat. And it came, and it's an actual green not a teal, and the wool is gorgeous quality, and it fits great! But I am having a hard time getting over the rose gold zipper and snaps. I think it looks garish and "trendy" and I won't want to wear it after this season. All of the hardware on my purses is silver, and my hunter green plaid earmuffs from J. Crew a couple of seasons ago which I was so excited to match also has a silver thread running through it. I am so torn. Do I return it (or exchange for the gray) and give up my dream of a dark green coat? Do I suck it up and wear the rose gold? Do I take it to a seamstress and ask them to replace the hardware and take the risk that they butcher a new $200 coat? Ugh, it is so close to perfect, but that one detail is driving me nuts. Help me decide!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely not keep it as it is. That would bother me too (I hate rose gold, though, but the non-matching-ness with regular gold/silver hardware on other things would really bother me too). I would take it to a tailor and ask what it would cost to replace the hardware. Maybe the estimate will make your decision for you, or maybe the conversation will give you confidence that the tailor will do a good job. It's a risk, but if you are in love with the coat that much, maybe worth it? I considered getting the snaps taken off of the hood of the Chateau Parka, but decided not to keep the coat. Some day another coat will come along that I like as well, but it was gray and longer so easier to find than a specific green color, especially in a short coat. Take it to the tailor, can't hurt to get an opinion there!
DeleteI agree with cate. You may want to hang on to it for the 60 days to see if the coat goes to sale (or even sale + an additional %) in that time period. Coats tend to get slashed after the holidays. If you're going to be making a potentially pricey alteration, it may be easier to stomach if you paid less for the coat. Just a thought!
DeleteWe had the exact opposite problems! I'm sorry you don't like the rose gold zipper and snaps -- I love them! I think they stand out very nicely against the green. I also bought it in Vintage Pine and was actually disappointed that the color wasn't as vibrant (more teal) as the pictures online. I'm a little torn whether or not to keep it. I'm tempted to hang on to it and see if I could get it at a better sale price after Christmas. My husband says it looks great and thinks I should keep it... sigh. I definitely agree with you that it has a beautiful fit and the wool is great quality. I walked around outside for a little while and it is incredibly warm. First item I have bought from J Crew this season that is true to size! The only other color I was considering is the Rusted Clay and that is sold out.
DeleteThis pine color is not a color that comes often in coats. On the other hand I am not too fond of the rose gold color myself. I would not change the hardware unless you have the best tailor. I have changed snaps before, but these will leave a hole. If I were you I would own the different metal colors and find something to bring them together. Michael Kors has several pieces out this year that combine all three metal colors a la Cartier. Choose earrings or a necklace, maybe even a bracelet. Some pieces are pretty cute.
DeleteThanks everyone for the advice! I am going to keep thinking about it, but I think it will be a keep or return rather than a modify-to-perfection piece. I don't have a local tailor I trust which makes me leery about turning it over to someone else. And the teeth of the zippers are on a strip of green fabric which would be hard to match too.
DeleteI will be downtown, so probably will be going this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have off next week so I'm actually going on Monday for a return/exchange (thanks size inconsistencies). Anyway, there's a new sweater that I was told would be online on Wednesday as part of the next batch of new arrivals. I'm going it's actually in store on the Monday I go.
ReplyDelete*I'm hoping it's in the store. ..
DeleteThanks auto correct. :/
Yesterday, I stopped in to get caught up with my JCrew friends and see the buffalo plaid vest in person. I'm hoping for a pre-Thanksgiving/black Friday sale to order it and the Cambridge turtleneck sweater. I'm offline and never do Black Friday shopping on Friday, so I'm hoping for an early sale. I purchased the Wallace & Barnes Buffalo plaid jac shirt for my husband for Xmas and 4 pairs for socks for me. And while I was there a friend came in the store...which was a fun surprise. We then went on to Pottery Barn to look at linens. Of course there wasn't a Thanksgiving or Fall tablecloth anywhere in the store...all Xmas. I told her jokingly that she should have bought that Turkey Day tablecloth in August!
ReplyDeleteI stopped in last night, saw nothing worth having and left empty handed. The sale section was huge, with a whole wall of short sleeve tees.
ReplyDeleteI think by the time they slash prices...I no longer want nor need the item.
ReplyDeleteThe prices are obviously starting too high ...to be lowered within a week ..
I have purchased very little this year. I wanted a coat...but after hearing about the MELTON wool....I have not purchased any outwear. what a disasterous season.
OT - Images are being loaded onto Pinterest from JCrew Gifts for Her...and they are promoting that ruffled sweatshirt..hehe
ReplyDeleteSeveral reviews in this post including the J. Crew Bliss Sweater, the Sequin Chevron Tee, the Sequin Tee, and the Boyfriend Flannel in Dark Plaid. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteMore reviews:
ReplyDelete* Hugo Guiness human being tee
* abstract fair isle sweater
* sparkle side-slit sweater
Saw the open shawl cardigan instore. Huge...only 2 sizes (big and bigger) The real dissappointing fact is that it is Old Navy quality...not J Crew
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIn this round...
ReplyDelete* chambray shirt - larger fit, larger pockets, nice, fluid fabric
* stripe crop sweatshirt - inspired a Drunk J. Crew shot
* Maddie pant in metallic matelassé - thumbsup, fit not a match for me, though
* drapey tuxedo top - surprise thumbsup, on 100% poly believe it or not
Local stores were offering 30% off sweaters, 25% snap-front pants and an extra 40% off sale items.
ReplyDeleteAny predictions for Thanksgiving promos? I purchased the Roxie in the new print. They ran larger than the Roxie pair in the previous print, plus the pair had a small defect. i am itching to order the smaller size but not without a promo. But they are gorgeous, the cobalt blue is deep like the Plaza coat and they make a statement.
ReplyDelete137 - The 8am - 10am promo of 30% off storewide was the pre-Black Friday event. So I'm guessing that it'll be 30% off next for the official BF. ?
DeleteMy B&M also said 30% storewide for BF. Last year, online they did 30% sitewide with new arrivals on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, extending through the end of the month (based on last year's JCA post. My guess is that it will probably be the same this year.
DeleteThank you! I was hoping for the 30% to order the shoes. I really want to order the fringe tank too, especially after I saw your video Gigi. I own twirling skirts, but not a twirling top!
DeleteWas instore a week ago. Saw a pant I liked. The SA called it the TRISTAN...It looked like the Maddie to me . Anyone heard or tried this pant ???? thanks. C
ReplyDeleteWent to a B&M today.... so underwhelmed. Did pick up a few pieces on sale. Got a copy of the Holiday catalog and also disappointed... used to the great color schemes and pieces.
ReplyDeleteFew reviews - Tuxedo dress, fit is TTS, dress is just ok. Would have been a keeper if it had a satin lapel and satin covered buttons. May repurchase on supersale. Ludlow gold pants - FIT IS BIZARRE - Even in the new catalog the 6 foot, 110 pound model looks strange in them. Too bad, for my climate they would have been a year round item. Fringe top, as everybody states, good pricepoint, size down one from your usual size.
Several Madewell reviews in this post I reviewed the following pieces: Silk Tailored Tee in Ascot Grid, the Ex-Boyfriend Shirt in Lisse Plaid, and the Sidney Boots. HTH!
ReplyDelete
