"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I recently ordered a bikini top for around $11 and figured it was a good deal considering I already owned swimwear from the same size/season. However, when I received it, I noticed that one cup is considerably larger than the other, which makes it an automatic wardrobe malfunction. (I measured the seams just to make sure I'm not crazy/asymmetrical and they definitely are different sizes.) :[

  2. I know this had been said before but I really wish that when stuff goes on sale the price wouldn't fluctuate so much. Why would I buy a final sale item for $150 when I could possibly get it for 30% off? It really discourages people, well I don't know about others, but me personally from purchasing FS items when there is no promo code.

  3. My online PS has been borderline rude lately to the point where I sent her a break-up email. She replied super sweet - she loves working with me blah blah. I have come to the point where I rarely contact her for anything ( because the answer is always "no" or "can't find it".) if I want to subject myself to the torture of requesting a price adjustment I have better luck with the 800# and if I want to find an item- I have better luck calling stores to find it myself (and we all know WWFI is a joke!!! There is a post idea...).
Maybe her attitude is related to my diminishing JC shopping habits. I've had two other PSs that got promoted that were fantastic!! I wonder if I just got one with an attitude or if it's more of a shifting policy towards customers... Vent over :)

  4. I was looking for the Seaport Maxi, so after the online chat window popped up I asked the rep to find it for me. After telling her/him which store they told me "it may be available there". They don't have any info on inventory??

Shouldn't they have the ability to search for store inventory.
    I eventually called the store

  5. I bought a nwot blue and white polynesian sweater dress off of ebay -- I washed it as directed and in 2 spots the blue bled onto the white! Eek -- what should I DO!!
    any tips?

  6. Conster- I might try using a "Color Catcher" sold in your laundry aisle. I have had great success with them. Now I don't even bother color sorting- just toss one in with every load! If that doesn't work, they have bleach pens that could get the blue off, but that is trickier. Good luck!

  7. You could also try making a paste with Biz powder and putting it on the white areas and letting it sit for several hours.

  8. Would it kill them to make a sweater or T-shirt with actual long sleeves? Not 3/4 or bracelet sleeves. The 3/4 sleeve look is cute but not all the time on every item of clothing. And especially on a sweater for the winter...the look now is a nice cozy loooong sleeve. I feel like JC has gone too far with this they're just doing it for cost cutting purposes. :/

  9. I can't use my google account anymore to publish comments. Also I can't type the word verification on an iPhone which I'm using because I can't use goioogle account on my computer. What's going on?

  10. I have to agree with the color catcher which I think is AMAZING. Sometimes for darker jeans I use two/load.

  11. Hello -- I tried re-washing using Clorox 2 and 2 shout color catcher sheets -- that is good advice which i should have done the first time! But, did not help this go round. Boo hoo. I will try treating the areas and letting them sit but I cannot do a bleach pen. I am mrs ham fingers and will ruin the whole thing! thanks!

  12. I bought a very cute embellished t from J Crew factory last summer. I wanted to wear it today underneath a cardigan & it already has not one, but two holes. I'm so angry!

  13. Does anyone remember when final sale went away and spring sale started last year? April?

  14. The cotton waffle pullover is already in FINAL SALE, reduced a whopping $9.51. Was going to order it but not sure of sizing. No more final sale for me. Too much in my resale shop bag that didn't work out.

    1. Really? Is this in stores? It is still $69.99 online. I've been eyeing it, but since another recent JCrew sweater I own pilled, I don't want to invest that much on something that may not last.

  15. Cass: Spring Sale came back on April 19th last year.

  16. Conster, the gentlest yet most effective stain remover I've ever used is Dreft Stain Remover (it comes in a spray bottle). I bought Dreft everything when my son was born almost 7 years ago, and I've continued to use the stain remover since then because I haven't found anything that's worked as well. I have successfully used it to remove color bleed, but not sure it will work for you on your 3rd attempt. You could try, though! Good luck!

  17. I'm annoyed that every T that I try on at Jcrew is TOO long for me. Like ridiculously too long. I'm 5"3 with a petite normal proportions and everything is always too long for me. I usually take an XS and the bust, shoulders, everything is perfect but the length. So annoying. And going down to XXS would just be too small!

  18. Love most of what J.Crew makes- which is why about 70% of my closet is from here. BUT my pet peeve is that the bathing suit line seems to have gone downhill. They typically have very cute bikinis- but the one pieces are boring. They are almost always cover the whole back and who wants that tan line? Tankini's don't even exist in their line anymore.

  19. I second Elaine, Dreft is the best!

I just to say that the picture on this post makes me laugh every time I see it.

  20. My wife surprised me with a trip to NYC for my birthday. I had been reading about the Liquor Store for long enough it was on my must list. We made it only to be met with an elitist and snobish attitude. They hardly spoke to us and we were the only ones there for a while. It wasn't until a newly arriving customer my wife engaged in conversation with (she was giving a huge recommendation to the Dodo Case he was looking at as a gift) that they even acknowledged us - after we were helping him. I was in a Men's Store earlier in the day and much preferred that because I met the nicest salesman who saw to my every need and talked to me.

  22. I agree with ccbmum, why do the majority of sweaters & tops have 3/4 sleeves? I don't care for them.

  23. Brandon,
just remember your money is the same as everyone else's, their loss if you didn't buy. I never let any thing like that bother me. After working for a year in retail you see it all. Go back in and buy.

  24. regarding the sleeves, most of the long sleeves are too long for me. The length is obviously wrong for most of us

  25. Well, I personally love J.Crew's sleeve lengths. The tees, tanks, and long sleeve as well as 3/4 length and bracelet sleeves all work for me. I like the variety and the styles and esp. for showing off bracelets and jewelry. That is the whole purse of bracelet length sleeves:)

    1. i agree and think that the 3/4 and bracelet sleeves are beautiful and very chic. I have a lot of items with them and they work beautifully. but, i just wish that there were more (full) long sleeved options, especially on sweaters. i'm noticing that there aren't many options with a full long sleeve. :)

  26. Regarding the color catcher sheets: be very careful with them if you use a front load washing machine. They tend to get trapped in the drain filter. After calling the repairman twice, I finally started putting the sheets in a lingerie bag, so they can't escape. Also, they aren't intended to remove stains from dye stained clothes, only to prevent the stains from happening in the first place. Also, they don't work perfectly. I would never wash white or light colors in the same load as possibly unstable colors, even with a color sheet in the load.

  27. I know this has been discussed a million times but I just purchased the Poppy King lipstick for JCrew and it outrages me that I still have to pay $9 in shipping for one tube of lipstick. That's insane!

  28. It's been said before but I'll say it again - HOLY TEES AND SWEATERS!! Two of my favorite items in one of my favorite colors ever, bronzed twig, have developed holes! They're barely a year old, and I was super careful with them because I wanted them to last! One is a perfect fit tee and the other was merino sweater. Seriously J Crew, get your act together with this quality issue!!

  29. Even Target has videos of the models on their website now, and J.Crew cannot even give us a wishlist feature? Very sad...
