Received the envelope coat and it is going back. Warm grey color is a complete washout on me and the style does not have enough shape. I looked like I was wearing a giant paper bag (with a really cool zipper)!

ReplyDeleteWore a pair of pants from HO 07 the other night. Bright pink herringbone, thick wool, fully lined. They have the definition of ladylike sewn into the inside waistband. They're lovely and they don't make them like this anymore. Glad I hung onto them.

ReplyDeleteReceived the snowbound sweater (55810) in heather jungle yesterday. Color is absolutely gorgeous, but I didn't care for the shoulder buttons both in placement and construction (I thought they felt cheap). The design of the yoke and the thick ribbed cuffs was cute, though.
I also picked up the Crewcuts wandering star train case (44924) for my niece for Xmas and it is just darling. It's a nice size, feels well made and durable.
silver lining, I have a couple of pieces of the star-print products from Crewcuts, the lunch bag is beautiful too, quite large but great for holding snacks in the car for my 9yo.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the wide leather belt with the last 25% off no minimum promo and was quite disappointed. First the buckle has a brass finish that I couldn't really guess from the online pic (I thought it was shiny gold) and cheapens it a bit IMO. But more importantly it is too wide to be worn as a pants/jeans belt. The S was perfect at my waist but as the description says you need to size up if you want to wear it lower. The leather was beautiful but just not what I was expecting.

ReplyDeleteThe pants are lovely light and soft wool, and although not lined are not itchy. The tuxedo stripe is a thick black satin, nicely done. I love the higher waist, I'm tired of low waist dress pants. The tie belt comes out for versatility. Unfortunately the pleats overwhelmed me and made my hips look huge. It was not a flattering cut on me.

ReplyDeleteGot the Stadium Cloth Car Coat in Buffalo Plaid late last week with the 30% off promo. I know most sizes sold out pretty quickly, but if it pops back online I recommend grabbing it!
ReplyDeleteIt is so soft, and the colour is just as I hoped -- a great orangey-red. I know some other JCAs found it to be too bright, but mine is pretty much as it looked online, so thankfully not a sad surprise when I took it out of the box. It is nicely lined with one of those little chains at the collar, giving it a bit of a special touch.
I didn't notice in the pics online, but in addition to the two flap pockets at the hip, there are also handwarmer pockets just below the bustline. I love that they are there as I don't always remember my gloves and having pockets to slip my hands into is a nice feature.
I got my usual size 2 based on my 2009 peacoat size. It's described as being slightly boxy, and that is true. For context, I'm a 4 in Perfect Shirts and a Small in most sweaters and t-shirts; I'm very small-busted but have fairly square shoulders. This is not a fitted coat and I think it maybe looks better open than it does buttoned up (that's just me). It is supremely cozy and I'm SO glad I got it when I did.
I just received my cafe capris in warm jade last night. I ordered the same size as my wool cafe capris, and these were definitely smaller. Like I'm not sure if I can get the top closed! Yikes! I wear a pair of my cafe capris probably weekly so I know I haven't gained 10 pounds or anything. Is anyone else noticing this?

@SE Mom - I also attempted the envelope coat but in the oasis green. Though the color was lovely, the shape was completely unflattering and it immediately went back.

Jules dress in a bright, floral print that doesn't seem to be anywhere online. The material is synthetic but close to a raw silk.

ReplyDeleteI recieved 2 of the Vintage Thermal Sweatshirts in the mail yesterday. Holy Short-ness Batman! Both were quite on the short side for me. Ganted, I'm 5'9", but still. The sleeves were about 3/4 length rather than the long sleeves they are supposed to be, and the body length was fairly cropped too. The rest of the overal fit was slouchy and boxy, which I liked, so I'm going to try to make them work.
ReplyDeleteEven worse, of the 2 colors I ordered(Modern Red and Navy),the Navy one was a good inch shorter in the sleeves and body than the Red one-- the hem barely came to my waistband! I called CS, and they're going to do a replacement on the Navy one, so hopefully what I got was one random defective one. Boo. Why can't I learn my lesson on the Thermals?
I received the Eden Cardigan in navy last week. I really like it. The sleeves are loose enough for me to wear long sleeved shirts underneath. Fabric is a nice material and doesn't seem prone to any pilling. Good length, it runs true-to-size.

ReplyDeleteAlso, I was one of the crazies who bit on the Carriage Coat dress. I guess I have a "thing" for Collection pieces, oy. Fortunately I was able to grab it before it sold out and was on promo for an additional 25% off, as I don't know if it is worth the entire full price.
Thoughts (I will do a IRL review on True Crew Love sometime soon)...
Size: HUGE. Like remember I am 6 months pregnant and the extra-small fit great everywhere, shoulders, length, hips, waist (!!!). It is meant to be an a-line shape, but come on, J. Crew, it can't really be an extra-small if the hips measure 43 inches and the waist is hovering around 31 or 32. Seriously. The extra-extra small is their smallest size and that would swamp a lot of you.
I will say that if you have wider shoulders it may be too small, as this seems to be the only place where it is more of a traditional cut.
So if you are a pear shape, go. for. it. It will fit you, no problem.
Color: Very pretty heathered red with hints of ivory threading in the fabric.
Fabric: Soft and substantial with a beautifully constructed lining throughout. That said, I could see it being itchy for some of you, even with the lining, as the wool is thick enough to come through a bit in the lining. I wore it out to dinner and even after sitting the entire meal it was only vaguely wrinkled (it has hemp in it, maybe 10%, which acts like linen--aka a wrinkling champ).
Details: Its collar is exactly the same as the other collection piece I own from this year (the double faced cashmere popover), and I like its classic look. You have to wear something beneath the dress as it is a deep v, but really I wasn't expecting that any of you would go out with this and just a bra under it. The buttons aren't the best but seeing as they are mainly decorative, they don't have to be the best. There are pockets, and they are placed nicely for use.
Styling: I wore mine with a black tissue tee turtleneck, black opaque tights, and a pair of black heels. It looked great together. My hubby quite liked the look, which is good, as he tends towards liking me in more preppy/classic clothing (edgy dinagideon doesn't really do it for him, lol).
Hope that helped anyone considering it...there was a small available as of a few minutes ago...

ReplyDeleteThings I have received within the last few weeks on promo that I love...the wool Hutton trouser in plum, the cafe capri in jade and casablanca blue (both gorgeous, I took my normal 2 however the sizing seemed rather generous in these imo), the black bubble necklace (I love this! why did I wait so long..), saturday leggings - so cozy - and the men's lambswool aberdine fair isle sweater (in xxs/nutmeg, because I wanted something to lounge in and wasn't finding the fair isle pattern I was craving in anything women's), the Academy Coat in wool herringbone - am convinced you can sell me anything with thumb holes. I also stocked up on a few basics but most have been reviewed here previously (chunky turtleneck, tippi, dream v-neck, and socks).
I also received the Jules dress in wildcat print - I do love this print but the shape leaves something to be desired. I will most likely keep this and pair it with something to make it pop..on it's own it's lackluster.
@Clicquot: Will you be providing pictures of the Stadium Cloth Car Coat in Buffalo Plaid? I, too, have my eye on that coat, but would like to do all the research I can on it before pulling the trigger. Thanks!

I ordered it during the last 30% promo ONLY to try on for fit so I would know later once it was on (final) sale if I should (re)buy it. I fully intended to return it before it arrived. I intended to return it as I was opening the box - intended to return it while pulling it out of the box... but as soon as I put it on - I was in love! I don't think it is too bright at all - fit TTS. Super soft. Nice details. A little old-school JC vibe for me... Love love love.
ReplyDeletePerfect shirt in clay check (was stalking this for weeks till it popped back) - great print but not great quality. Fabric thinner and floppier than a shirt should be, so collar and cuffs are a bit limp and the placement of buttons on the cuffs is weird, allowing you to button them up all the way or roll up twice, but not just turn the cuffs back once; and there are loose threads after one wash. The print is also slightly off and bleeding in places but it doesn't matter so much for this kind of print, which has a nice batik-y vibe and goes with lots of things, jeans, navy, camel, an old J Crew cinnamony sweater, etc. I would have hated to have paid full price for this though.
ReplyDeleteHadley sweater: have worn this now several times and it really is a bit too long in the body and short in the sleeves, comes down below the hip for me while my wrists are cold. The sleeve length is good for layering a button down shirt underneath but the body is too long. The picture online is deceptive, because the sleeves and hem appear at the same level, but in reality the hem is a good four inches lower. It also stretches out and gets longer as the day goes on, and there is some pilling under the arms but not a lot. The quality of the wool is good by recent J Crew standards.
Tippi sweater in Ivory - great cut and shape, just conservative enough with flattering "open" crew neckline but darn the ivory was too sheer. Have to send back but will definitely try another colour.
@rynettaPhD -- I checked out your blog and WOW! your coat looks so bright in those pictures! LOL, is that just the lighting? Mine is much, much closer to the online shots.

ReplyDeleteI received 2 Madewell dresses in the past week. Paisley Bloom dress in paisley bistro blue - this dress IRL is definitely much more brown that I was expecting. I thought the background would be warm nudish but it is a dark brown. The cobalt blue is as it appears. The sleeves of the dress are not as sheer as they appeared and the sewing is a bit haphazard at the neckline and the elastic waist part. Overall though it is nice quality as for all the Madewell things I have ordered. I will say though that it is pretty short. I am 5'8" and it hits well above my knee, so don't order this unless you like short dresses. The skirt is definitely A line. The waist and cuffs are elastic. The Size 0 does not fit as big as all the other dresses I have ordered which is good. Also the sleeves are bracelet length, not sure if they are meant to be this way. Overall I would say that if you like this dress and don't mind the length it is nice, but I am glad I got it with 25% as I don't think it is worth the full price.
The second one was the Velvet Songbird Shirtdress (sold out online, avail in some stores). This is beautiful fabric IRL and the finishing etc are really really nice. Drapes nicely. It is a gorgeous deep blue color (called ink which looked grey to me online but is not) in a silk/rayon velvet. The length is more wearable for most people - hits a bit above the knee). It has nice buttons and a covered placket and feels really nice. Long sleeves. I don't generally like shirtdresses - on me this hangs pretty much straight, and the waist on this is not elastic. It buttons only as far as the waist and the placket below that is only trim but adds to the look. From the waist down it wasn't too big but unfortunately the fit in the bodice was much too big for me - it is disproportionately way big in the top half of the dress. But I would highly recommend this dress. I am going to get it tailored. I like it too much to return it.
Clicquot: LOL!! I think that it may be the lighting because the color of my coat is close to the online shot as well. My camera is broken, so those are cell phone pictures.

ReplyDeletesilk kick pleat skirt in ruby: the color on this skirt is absolutely gorgeous, a bit darker than it looks online. This skirt looked much more a-line to me on the model than it was in real life. It sat high on the waist but was tight on me in the waist and then flared out very unflatteringly. I'm a size 12, and have an hourglass shape, and do just fine in the pencil skirts but this was a disaster. The pockets on this skirt stuck out horribly as did the kickpleat in the front. Sadly going back...
sequin shawl collar merino cardigan - this was a nice sweater, however I was under the impression that the sequins were sparkly sequins and they were actually matte, which made the sweater just 'ok.' was looking for something with a bit of sparkle and this definitely wasn't it. This is also being returned.
glimmer long sleeve tee - winner! took my regular top size (M) in this tee, and I LOVE IT. plenty of sparkle and will be able to wear a variety of ways. Wore with my bright dahlia cafe capris to a holiday party and got tons of compliments. Nice weight and it has a good lining - it wasn't itchy like I find some sequin tops to be (I have the matte sequin tank in white that is incredibly itchy.
Minnie pant in bi-stretch wool- these fit awesome, just what I imagined a Minnie pant to fit. One thing I hate is the "peg" leg effect and these don't do that, must be the way the fabric stretches, as they hug the calf but the "ankle" opening does not hug your calf,ankle, or wherever in-between these may actually hit you. So at the bottom they appear like "straight" let pants, but tight in some places. I guess the right places. I bought my regular pants size, so TTS. I got heather carbon and can see wearing with snakeskin cece flats and grey sweater for a cool monotone effect. Glad I bought these for my first pair of minnies.
ReplyDeleteMinnie pant in wool herringbone- I love these too, the fabric weight and lining TOTALLY changes these into what I call "not a Minnie." They don't hug, or stretch, they are plain front and side zip and are basically a Laura Petrie pant. My size 0 are actually kind of big in the waist/hip/upper thigh. Actually kind of loose all over. Not a minnie. May hold on and if I never wear I'm sure a JCA-er will be happy to scoop these up. The fabric is really pretty with lots of color options for the top. I see pink/rose.
1035 trouser in wool herringbone- totally wanted these forever. Not sure I like the fit. They are a bit higher waist like a favorite fit and feel a bit snug in my size 0, but the drape is really pretty and the cuff is a standout. Much darker than appears online, almost a black effect. Also, they are heavy, warm pants. Not sure I'm keeping. Fully lined (yay!).
Toothpick jean in Neon persimmon - Ugh. . the search continues for the perfect light pink pants. Fit on these was great, but the color is definitely more orange, and they weren't kidding about the neon. It wasn't what I was looking for so these are going back.
ReplyDeleteWide calf hair belt in Saraha Brown - I believe I got a defect here. The calf hair was lighter at one end of the belt and much, much darker at the other end. So when you buckle it, the light and the dark are together and it looked really weird. For how much it costs, I want the color to be consistent, so I will be returning.
Palm Springs Beaded necklace - Just as expected, and nicely made. However, the color is identical to another coral necklace I already have. (Don't you love it when you forget you have something and accidentally buy something just like it?!) So in lieu of that, I will be returning but it is lovely.
Not much success for me at JCrew lately, except for some great striped t-shirts from Factory. :)
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I received Lady Lace popover in Vintage champagne today. I have this in black from last year. I ordered my same size, S. This version must be cut different or I got a defective one because the sleeves are SO tight. My other LLP is also a small, and actually a bit loose. Anyone else have this experience? Now I have to wait for it to pop back in a medium.
ReplyDeleteHas anybody ordered the grey Darby calf hair loafer? I got them, but returned because the prints on each shoe seemed mismatched. One print was a lot bigger than the other. I returned and reordered..got them today and same thing.
ReplyDeleteSo here goes, my first post : Dream Sweater Dress in Gateway Green. Size XS, probably should have gone with XXS, as I find it slightly boxy. I am normally a size 0 or 00 in J. Crew. None the less, I have worn it with J.Crew skinny leopard print belt and styled it similar to catalogue look, with brown button shoulder sweatshirt tee and brown tights and brown boots. Overall, this is a good dress, not great, negatives: the fit as mentioned is slightly boxy - needs to be cinched at waist, the cable knit pilled a little after one wear, positives: the colour is lovely, and it keeps me super warm thus should only to be worn if I am going to be spending time outside in the Canadian winter.
ReplyDeleteThe UPS guy just drove away and I'm impressed. Okay, my UPS is pretty awesome and I see him far too often, but what I'm pleased with are the items he delivered.
ReplyDeleteTwo ties from the factory site, not quite as nice as the ones from the regular line, but for $12 and $14 and free shipping they will be great for work. And if I nail one of them with yogurt in the morning it won't be as tragic as it was when I hit the Armani tie.
The other two items were the alpine goose down puffer jacket in dark fatigue. Fits great, great colour, not the usual black and it's light weight. Not too over-stuffed with down that I look like I sat on an air hose.
Finally a marled lambswool cardigan in evergreen. Fits great, beautiful colour, sort of a combination of black, dark green and charcoal. The buttons while plastic really look like black leather ones.
Now I must stop shopping, or get a much bigger closet. And if my shopping continues I expect my spouse to call for an intervention.
Second ever post: Ladylace popover size XS in Champagne, again I should probably gotten XXS. Straight fit, amazing combination of soft sweater and crochet lace panel down front. Sleeve length perfect. Champagne colour slightly see through, must wear with layer underneath. I styled it with black corduroy leggings and black boots. I have received a number of compliments on this casual, but beautiful sweater, I suppose I can style it under a suit if I wanted to. Anyway, a no brainer purchase, love it.

Pencil skirt in super 120s (86562): Great fit, TTS for JC, but not sure if I love the fabric. Feels thinner than I remember 120s being, which is good for versatility and for office environment, but no wow factor. I purchased in navy and warm sienna but I suspect I will be returning both.
New No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge cotton: Casablanca blue is a very pretty blue that matches the heather hydrangea color (see, e.g., the honeycomb cable sweater -- 54466). Runs TTS. I like how JC keeps the sizing consistent among its pencil skirts.
Cashmere cashmere cashmere: Like other commenters, I've had good luck with JC's cashmere quality this year. Picked up three Isabel sweaters, which definitely run large -- I wear XS / S and took my XS but probably should have gone with XXS. But still, so cozy and comfy that I am keeping them -- love the dark poppy this season. Also the cashmere cable sweater in heather indigo (46703) in S, runs TTS, gorgeous color. Rugby Stripe V-neck (50522) also runs TTS, and both colorways (navy and flame) are very very pretty.
Bubble Necklaces (92687): I love this more than I thought I would -- it is not nearly as heavy as it looks (who would've thought that "resin" -- aka PLASTIC, no?? -- would be a good thing?). Keep in mind that there is a difference b/w the black and the red which is not readily apparent from the website -- the large resin disks are faceted on the black necklace, but smooth on the red, IMO, making the black a bit more interesting. But that red -- an irresistible red...
Hi newbie, I have a metro coat size 4 and I would choke if I were to close the hooks at the collar. Not sure why they bothered. The pockets are functional but arrive sewn shut however due to their high placement and size u wouldnt be able to stick your hands in them, just keys, etc.
ReplyDeleteDidn't get the coat I wanted in the right size before it sold out (tried twice with different sizes - third time would have been a charm!) and consoled myself with glittens and the hearthstone trapper hat. I have a feeling the gloves will pill quickly (I'll just use my little battery operated shaver), but I love them as well as the hat. So warm and cozy!

ReplyDeleteHi Newbie, sorry I took so long to reply. The Lady would definitely be more classic and fitted (as would the trench styles). The Metro still has shape though. I'm 5'6" and a 34B/C bust, 135lbs and I find that the metro is a bit generous in the bust but a 4 fit me best. (The 2 was ok in the chest but too tight in the upper arms). I guess it depends on whether you wear thick sweaters. I'm a blonde so bright colors suit me and I have other coats in camel so I wanted a bright color. ReplyDeleteI've tried both the metro and lady day coats- help! The lady day was too small (I'm normally a 2/4 but the 4 was tight) and the metro fit ok (6) but the Hthr Caramal color was a weird brown that I didn't like at all. Hard to believe a shade of brown could be unwearably bad; I'm really not that picky)
ReplyDeleteBefore trying again I'm hoping for some advice- has anyone seen the majestic purple or oasis green?? Does the bottom flare out very much? I'm hoping it would soften up but not sure...
