J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Yesterday I received the leopard jacquard cafe Capri pants. They looked nice in the catalog, but I paid $187 for a Made in China, unlined, polyester pair of Collection pants with no fabric give. The fabric is ITCHY and stiff. Ugh! What the heck is DL thinking? My cousin bought polyester jacquard pants on clearance a few years ago for $20 that were lined. For heaven's sake JC STOP using the doggone cheap fibers. If I want polyester clothing or acrylic blends I can get adorable styles on Ann Taylor Loft for a song compared to what you charge. I'm kicking myself in the arse for not ordering the striped stadium engineer coat or the biennual bag. I guess I got all google eyed when I saw the jacquard pants in the catalog. They shouldn't cost more than $90

  2. I received the Talisman jacket in double-serge wool. If you're between sizes, I would go to the larger size because it is cut slim. It is slightly cropped and a flattering cut with a single front button. It is fully lined and even has the inner trim piping. The black wool itself is good but could have been slightly better (but good). I like the cut well enough that if they were to do a thin tweed in the Talisman cut, I would get it.

In the cashmere, I got the Heather Indigo in the Boyfriend cardigan and really like the color, very pretty.

I'm looking forward to hearing the fit on the lined Waverlys. Are they same size or do you need to size up to accommodate the lining?

  3. could somebody please review the wynter sequin striped sweater?
is it TTS? is it itchy?
    i like the black/natural version.
    thoughts?

  4. cmg: Thanks for that, I'm going to keep my eye open for them on Ebay at a low price, I have a thing for crazy J pants at the moment but I agree, I have the floral taffeta and if I had paid $200 I would have felt sick.

  5. Elizabeth - AppGal posted pics of the lined waverlys on her blog.

  6. Thanks CMG - my leopard jacquards are arriving this week - they may well be going back as well. Odd that the lesser priced jewel jacquards were fully lined! I assumed these would be as well. I am still crossing my fingers, but not hopeful now....

I received the long sleeved sequin tee in black and it is just lovely - a fine investment for the price I paid!

  7. OT: I wanted to let everyone know (in case you don't check out my Tuesday 'You Look Familiar' posts) that the Snowflake tee and Reindeer tee are back again at Target this year. :)

  8. I have tried the thermals and I am sending them back. They are quite plush and even a stretchy think cotton, but I found the henley style slightly short in the arms in my usual size xs. The crewneck stripe fit much larger in the xs.
I also tried the vintage trouser cords and the waist was huge in my regular size. Tired of tailoring so back they go.
What else? I ordered the speakeasy dress for an event and I am on the fence about it. It is beautiful, a heavy satin cotton/silk and LINED IN SILK. Not seeing that lately at JCrew. I am only worried I will ruin it with a spot of salad dressing as the silk will show every spot and will be quite unforgiving. It was spensive so if I keep it I want to have it for years.
I have an order coming today at 5pm with the Clea dress which I will review.

  9. Just wanted to post that the darlington pursette is on sale and available (1 only!) in indigo blue. I have this and love it -- it is larger and roomier than most of the JC pursettes, which for me is perfect when I just want my wallet, keys, iphone, tissue, lipstick, and it fits all of these with room so you can actually see what you want to get. It is a FABULOUS color, and although it does scratch, I really don't think it detracts from the bag. It's a casual bag and doesn't need to look perfect.

  10. Could someone review Cambridge cable chunky turtleneck sweater. Since I have a long torso I am mostly concern about how long it is. Most of j.crew sweaters are to short for me and I hate paying shipping just to try things on.

  11. sub again - didn't seem to work last time

  12. I received the Emmaleigh dress yesterday in deep lagoon. It is a beautiful basic dress, and the blue is on the green side, but not as green as the peacock color. The dress is very fitted - I have been a solid 4 in most of the Super 120s dresses, and this one is on the snug side. Keeping it, but I can't gain any weight this holiday season. So, if you are close to between sizes, I would order both or just go up.
Also got the smocked box tee and drapey sequin tank- smocked box tee was ugly, shapeless, too short. Bleh. Drapey tank is cute and I am keeping it, but it is in no way drapey. It is very fitted in both sizes I ordered (xs and s). I would actually consider sizing up in this one.

  13. I thought I would share my review of leopard fedoras here

I love the one J Crew is offering, but perennial copycat Target seems to have the exact same thing....

  14. Has anyone tried the now on sale Olivia pants? I'd love a review since I'm obsessed - yes, I used the word! - with finding them on a popback and I stalk the website daily.

  15. Ivana, I ordered the Cambridge cable turtleneck and returned it. I tried my normal size XS and it fit fine but I felt it was too short and boxy for my taste. It probably won't work for a longer torso.

The merino turtleneck was a big thumbs down too. I ordered ivory and it's so sheer! I know it's only 12-14 gauge but I thought I'd try it anyway. I would not recommend it unless you're layering it something.

  16. I held up a perfect fit t-shirt against the striped thermals b/c I thought they felt short in the torso to me. The perfect t-shirts were a solid inch and a half longer than the thermals, so my suspicion was correct. I am not tall (5'4") and they felt short on me. I would have loved to get one, but wanted more length.

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but OMG, I love the Winsome Dress. It is gorgeous and fits beautifully. I got it in my smaller size and it fits great. I did wonder if the larger size would fit better in the waist (lower) in the bigger size, but it really didn't. It just gaped a little under the arms and no extra length in the waist, so I kept the smaller size b/c it looked better. LOVE it!

  17. Despite the good-natured jeers directed at the button back popover in wool, I ordered it during the 25% off sale last week. My hope was that it was a straight cut piece that would suit my straight cut body. It arrived yesterday, and I can say that it's more of a trapeze shape, and a poorly executed one at that. The material and color are lovely, but despite darts at bust and neck (in back), the upper body fits soooo strange, as though the material at the shoulders was forcing my arms to stay up (think Chris Farley, Fat Man in a Little Coat). The body then gets horribly shapeless. Not cute.

  18. I just received the Stadiumcloth Elements Coat in gray in the mail yesterday. I had never ordered a J Crew coat online before and was pleasantly surprised by the nice packaging: it came in a good-sized box folded in thirds on a heavy-duty hanger. The gray is lined with a really pretty greyish-green satin. It really makes it standout. I love the hood, it has a great fit that covers your whole head and actually stays up! I bought 1 size up from what I'd wear in a blazer (e.g., the hacking jacket) so that I can fit a blazer or heavy sweater under the coat on a cold day. If you live in a warmer client where you'd just be wearing the coat with a light sweater, you can probably go with the same size you'd wear in a blazer.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ina, I received the sequin striped sweater yesterday and it is tiny! I normally wear a small in their sweaters, and this sweater in a small looked like it was for crewcuts. It will be going back, hopefully they have it in the stores and I can try on a larger size. Would recommend ordering up!

  20. Prince of Whales wool schoolboy blazer- The fabric is beautiful. The finishing is sub-par. Felt under the collar, cheep acetate lining. Oh what I wouldn't give for a beautiful colored silk lining. The buttons were nice. The cut was slightly boxier than say the hacking. Maybe that is par for the schoolboy though, I haven't bought one in a long time.

Mixed media skirt- in a word... Awesome. I am in love and want to wear it every day. It is SILK LINED!! You may be able to catch in on popback. Size up one, it will still be a little tight but the leather stretches.

Cashmere boyfriend v neck- It is very boxy with tight arms, but boxy was what i was after so I am keeping it. Heather beet is a beautiful color.

Cashmere cable cowlneck in black - very soft for a black cashmere and no piling yet. I usually size up on cashmere but this one was TTS.

Cashmere cable crewneck - Very soft lower gauge (sp) so feels plusher. I love this sweater. I will be buying another color. Fits tts, if you want a tighter fit I would actually size down, there is some room in the body at your normal size.

Sterling skirt and henley coming today so I will put up a review tonight!

  21. some purse reviews:

Marceau Purse - I got this in the faded woodland color (green). I had to reorder it TWICE, because I kept getting damaged ones. It clearly scratches very easily. Other than that, it is really nice and a great color. Lots of pockets inside. The leather is very soft. I wish the long shoulder strap were wider, but that's just me being picky.

Invitation Clutch in Leopard - This also arrived damaged, and has been reordered. The biggest problem I have with it is that it is not as pictured. Online, the bit of leather at the shoulder of the chain strap is leopard print suede, like the rest of the bag. In reality, it is plain black (non-suede) leather. Not nearly as nice. The rest of the bag is nice, with a good amount of pockets inside, but it still may go back. I don't like that the bag I received is cheaper than the bag pictured. :(

  22. Got some basics.. I'm in the LOVE camp for the vintage thermal henleys. Got the gray and the bright dahlia. They fit TSS or a bit on the snug side. I usually wear XS in tees and they are fitted and I would consider ordering a Small to have some room.

Also ordered the perfect fit scoopneck - warm mustard is a great colour. I sized down upon reading some reviews and its too tight. I should have ordered my regular XS. These are long tees and great for layering so it might work. It may stretch out as well, not sure yet...

Rainy Day bow flats - LOVE. TTS for JC fats.

  23. the chic chauffeur - I have wanted that hat for so long, but was never willing to pay that much for it. I am so happy you posted! Target's website says it is in stock in my local store, so I'm going to try to swing by this afternoon... :) thanks!

  24. Sara, what is the weight of the wool on the mixed media skirt? How does it compare to double serge skirts or super 120s skirts? I keep thinking about the mixed media skirt and your review is making me very happy!

  25. I popped into JC last night to make a return and not intending to buy anything (I have 3 STAYWARM boxes on the way!). But they'd just received a whack of roll-out items so of course I had to try them on.

Now, I had NO interest in any more perfect shirts. I got the Tomboy Plaid last fall and never wear it. But when I epied the Perfect Shirt in Suckered Tartan I was won over by the great colourway and the soft, flannel-like material. Love it! (Interestingly, I got a size 4, which has become my usual perfect shirt size. But I compared it to my size 2 Tomboy Plaid and they are the same. Hmmm...)

Also picked up the Wonderland Puffer. I *know* there will be an outerwear promo coming up soon, so I may just keep the tags on it and return it if that happens. What I like: good length (not too short or bomber-like), not too puffy -- it gave me a bit of shape, actually -- zipped outer pockets, detachable hood, zipper and snap closure, good neck coverage when zipped all the way, and the Cherry colour is a terrific pop. IMO, it's more of an orangey red than blue-red. I took an XS, a size smaller than my usual. It was roomy enough for the cashmere sweater I was wearing. Now, I have a very small bust, otherwise I'd have gone with a small.

Saw the Heart Me sweater and wow, does it look and feel cheap. Some were on hangers and they were already very wrinkled from being squashed together. The wool blend felt awful - itchy, thin, cheap. Pass!

The Hutton trousers in wool flannel the grape colour (as seen on Net-a-Porter) -- nice, lined, good fit, although my usual size 4 was too roomy in the waist since they sit higher. I found the colour just a wee bit too bright for pants (unlike the deep eggplant colour we saw in the Fall Lookbook trousers) and too expensive to justify. I'll wait for a sale.

There's a new pencil skirt that isn't in the catalogue or online; it's a charcoal plaid base with hits of cranberry and a wide bow at the front of the waist. Really very pretty. However, I need another pencil skirt like a hole in the head, so I passed. But I'm still thinking about it, so maybe I'll change my mind...

The new ski sweaters were in, the Handknit Nordic and Handknit Fair Isle. The Fair Isle looked nice, but very fuzzy and very thick. I can't imagine wearing it indoors. Ditto for the Nordic, it was surprisingly chunky and didn't look as "fine" as it does on the model. They'd make any of my jackets very tight overtop of them.

There was stock of all the new pjs and they're lovely! The flannel pants are smooth and not too thick. They'll be on my Xmas list.

Apparently there's more new stuff arriving in the Toronto store today! I can't keep up.

  26. cmg - I'm bummed about the quality of the leopard jacquard cafe capri. Mine are on their way (by that I mean that they are sitting with UPS without tracking so far). It sounds like they will go back just like the jeweled cafe capri, which were lined. I guess that just means more money to spend at retailers with quality pieces this season.

  27. Clicquot: that pencil skirt you're talking about may be the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Glen Plaid (Item #55689). i placed a pre-order because they said it wasn't expected to ship until end of november (i think my PS said the 30th)... kinda happy and pissed that they're in the store already... maybe i'll call my jcrew to see if they have them in stock and save myself the hassle of waiting for the package to arrive.

    ReplyDelete
  28. MissJR -- I can't find that item number on the JC site...weird...but yeah, if that's the one, they just got it in the Toronto store.

  29. @ Clicquot: Thank you for your thoughts on the quality of the Heart Me sweater. I had thought of buying it as a gift but will pass.
@ kikki cee: Am LOL'ing at your Chris Farley visual :)

If any JCA's buy that Silk Camp Shirt in Leopard Lame, please review it. It's nowhere near my speed, but the thing looks so ugly online that I'm dying to know how it looks/feels in person, especially for $198.

  30. Clicquot: i actually saw a pic of that skirt on another blog and sent it to my PS asking if they knew anything about it and that's the number she gave me.

  31. Desert flower- the wool on the Mixed media skirt is more like a super 120's wool, definitely not a double serge. It is a very soft light wool. You won't be disappointed. It was a love a first sit piece for me.

  32. I ordered a new lady day coat with the 25% off with thinsulate. I have one from 2007 without and I adore this coat. It was the one they offered in xmas 2007 with the stand up collar and beautiful ruffled lining. The coat I received was a hot mess! the lining was cheap and not sewn evenly! The lining also bunched up at the sleeves near the wrist and was just an all over disappointment. I am very sad lately to see the poor quality of many of the items. I guess I will keep wearing my old coat until it falls apart!

  33. I am disapointed about the Heart Me sweater. I ordered it and I haven't received it yet. Its so cute, though and as soon as I saw it online, I couldn't put it out of my head.

I received the Emmaleigh dress in super 120s pinstripe. Fits TTS or a little big (usual size 4 in suiting bottoms had plenty of room -- which is how I perfer suiting to look). Its a beautiful dress and will look great with a jacket over it or a long-sleeve shirt underneath.

I ordered the honeycomb sweater in bright dahalia, but it went back. The color was great, but the fit of the sweater was only meh. I scored the cashmere henley in the bright dahlia on this most recent 30% off so hoping the shape is better.

I am keeping the Encore trench. Its a little dressier than I really want/need, but its gorgeous and it was a great price, so I can't bear to send it back. I think its gone, but in case it pops back, size 2 fits snug (I probably could not wear a thick sweater underneath).

I returned the bright blue pencil skirt (size 4 was too big and now the smaller size is on waitlist, so I decided if I have to wait anyway, I want the verdian green).

I have a 2 regular in the vibrant flame and a 4 petite in the verdian green coming my way sometime in Dec/Jan. Can anyone comment on whether these are going to be totally different looking skirts on me, size-wise?

The SA told me the virdian green pencil skirts was off-limits for them to purchase with their discount. I wonder how many items are like that?

  35. I am thinking this has already been reviewed so if yes, sorry for redundancy! I bought the crochet lace front tee (white) on the weekend and I love it. I bought XXS and I would say that it fits TTS to small. Some people may have issues with the small arm thing as my arms are very small, it is also fitted although not snug on me (and I have a 28 inch bust/small frame). The lace detail is lovely and there were no threads pulled or damage. I would say it needs to be handled with some care but definitely not cheap looking or too delicate IMO. The white was not sheer in the front but that back is somewhat. I would also caution that it is not particularly long in the back. In the front because of the scalloped lace detail it hits my hip but at the back it is on the short side. I plan to buy another one, probably the peach and possibly black. I haven't checked the care label but will probably hand wash.

  36. I ordered a few of the Cambridge cable v neck sweaters on the staywarm promo. I loved the chartreuse color when it arrived, but overall the sweaters were a disappointment for me. I found that they run a little small and on the shorter side in length. Also, they were "fuzzing" all over the place. All I could think about was how many pairs of pants I wouldn't be able to wear with the sweaters. (And the fact that I would be sneezing!) All three are being returned and I'm back on the hunt for a good, basic v neck sweater :-(

  37. blakemdjohns & whitney -- Sorry, I don't mean to bum you guys out about the Heart Me sweater! I might very well be in the minority...just my opinion and others might love it.

Blakemdjohns -- let us know what you think when you get it.

  38. I received my box of the 25% yesterday.

striped winter sequin sweater in black/natural. On the fence with this one. I like it and think it looks nice with denim, a green (olive) pant and dress pants but trying it on, I needed to put a long sleeve t underneath because it felt a bit itchy. I got a MEDIUM and it fits pretty TTS.

The foundry wool pant. Love them. Ordered in an 8 (I normally wear a 6). They sit low so I ordered bigger. They are 100% wool...they itch so I tried a pair of footless tights underneath....much better! The length is great for heels and flats and it's mint color with brown . I wore with red wedge today, black velvet school boy blazer and everyone is loving the look.

The Cafe Capri in Wool Plaid! I am so CRUSHING on these...I love that I went against my normal pattern prohibition and purchased them. I love them. TTS. I cannot wait to wear after Thanksgiving...perfect with flats, heels..I will have these for a long time!

I have not received the heart sweater yet but after the reviews I've read, I think I will be returning. Bums me out because it looks so soft and thick/plush online but no thanks to easy sweater wrinkle.

And the enamel bracelets...I love them. I really like the gold/stripe stretch ones with stones in-between --- these I'm ordering for some gifts.

I am going to post some pics later on my blog: vivalabeagle.blogspot.com

  40. @shariya I completely agree with your review of the sequin stripped sweater. I can't decide if I wear it with a layering piece if it is worth the itch vs. cute factor. Will try it on again tonight with jeans.

  43. Thermal Tees-
I agree with those who are disappointed with the thermal tees. Nice fabric, but they’re short. I ordered an XS which is my typical size in J Crew these days, and when I put it on there was skin showing between the bottom of my shirt and top of my ‘favorite fit’ pants. And the sleeves came nowhere near hitting my wrists—almost ¾ length. That said, I’, 5’9”, so that may have something to do with it. But if you’re tall or have a long torso, be aware.

    Poncho Hoodie (#51154)-
I actually really liked this one! I ordered the xxs/xs, and yes it is big and boxy (size down if you can), but the fabric and construction seem good, and it looks great with leggings or skinnies over a long sleeved tee. I’m surprised at how much I like this and am thinking of ordering another color.

    Factory Blackwatch Tartan Pants-
Nice. Really nice. Fabric and construction are much better than expected—especially for Factory. And yes, they are fully lined. However, these fit a little tight in the waist/thigh. I took my normal size 2, and they seem smaller than other favorite fit trousers I have. There is some stretch in the fabric, but if you’re between sizes or on the larger end of a size, I might size up.

  45. Just received 3 STAYWARM boxes including Sterling skirt and flannel lined chinos:

    Flannel lined Waverly chinos
Pros: So comfy I did not take them off after trying. Soft and tts, no need to size up to accomadate lining. Color is darker that appears on line and the lining has a nice subdued plaid. The lining is a nice weight and not too bulky. Imo you could wear them on milder winter days not only when it is very cold.
Cons: I actually wish they were favorite fit since that would make them warmer and even more comfortable but that is my preference. I wish they were a little longer to accomodate rolling up and still have them reach the ankle. I am afraid all you taller JCAs will be sized out but it is good news for petite gals. I am 5'6" (with long legs) and they are borderline.

    Sterling skirt:
On me it is a disaster. I was hopingg the shape woudl be more pencil and flaring out at the bottom but it is just an a-line skirt that sticks out the the hips and looks like a tent on my hips. I have relatively small hips and it does not work with my figure. I think it maybe be better on pear shaped JCAs. I ordered 2 sizes, my regular pencil size 4 and a 6 since the waist measurement was smaller. The 6 is just laughable. 4 is better, waist is OK if a little snug but still way too big in the hips and frumpy looking. Too bad as the fabric and length are great and I wanted something different than pencil shape.

  46. Anyone have or seen in person the TALIA TOP in WILDCAT???? Thinking it would be a great item with pencil skirts and pants and denim. Not sure on the fabric. I wasn't a fan of the Talia top (solid color) in person at the store. Any reviews would be great.

I plan on sending the HEART sweater back as soon as I get it...

  47. More of my STAYWARM - mostly basics:

Thermals: I already reviewed and love them but I want to comment on sizing. The sleeves and overall length were fine on me (I am 5'6") but I ordered a medium and have relatively short torso and arms.
Maybe there is a big difference between length in different sizes.
They do fall to low hip on me and I washed the crewneck and it did not shrink. Navy henley seems shorter than dahlia and champagne and this is the one I am keeping. I love the gold buttons with navy. Other colors seem too basic and showing any lumps more.

Cafe trouser - great fit and great shade of navy, tts.

Trouser cords, agree with DaniBP that the waist is big, but it actually works well for me making them more comfortable. Other than that TTS, nothing special but good basic.

Perfect v-neck in marashino cherry in a very pretty shade of red. For some reason I was set on getting a red top but most reds don't work for me, however I love this one, perfect with my flanned lined Waverly chinos reviewed above.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Shariyu - I saw the top IRL last night. The top is 100% rayon, so it feels exactly like the Talia (or whatever they are calling it today) in paisley. I really wanted to try it on; however, my crew didn't have my size. My overall thought is that the top looks short.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks again, Sara! I am normally a 2 in pencil skirts so I will stalk this in a 4 since you recommend sizing up. I love the idea of the wool and leather. I'm hoping since its a wrap that there is a bit of wiggle room with the sizing.

  50. Hi Girls,
UPS man brought the wool cafe capri in wool plaid today. I ordered during the last promo. First, I ordered my regular size and they are HUGE! They were too long and really large around the waist. I think the vanity sizing team went to work on these pants. Second, the pattern is loud. Reminded me of crazy golf pants. I sort of like them but wasn't sure I could pull them off. They are lined and the wool is nice. They are going back. I might consider on sale, but pass for me at full price.

  51. ajc thanks for the reviews of the Waverly flannel chino and the Sterling skirt!
Too bad about the skirt though this makes it easier for me, I've been looking at it and thinking about how I've purchased my skirt quota for winter!
I am very curious as to how the chino will fit, especially since I am so picky about pants. The Waverly fit might be bad for me, and I too wish they had used a favorite fit.

My staywarm order doesn't arrive until tomorrow, I'll have my nose pressed against the glass waiting for my UPS boyfriend.
I'll post reviews of the chino pants and the Clea dress, has anyone tried the dress on yet?

  52. Rest of STAYWARM:

Cashmere rugby stripe v-neck in flame. I loved this sweater since I saw it in store in August but could not justify the price. Finally, I decided that sale price with promo and Ebates is acceptable if not great. I have couple other cashmere v-necks and I love the shape. Slightly slouchy but fitted in shoulders and hips with v-neck that does not require a cami. I love this color combo, I think it is very flattering and perfect with camel skirt or jeans.
Fits TTS, arms are not too skinny but I do buy most of my cashmere in larger size. for example, I buy small in perfect t-shirts but Medium in cashmere.

    Crewcuts review:
Girls' convertible puffer: Very nice coat, warm and functional. Candied cherry is a pretty and cheerful orangey red. Nice longer cuffs and ski-jacket type finih inner shell that is also tight on the hips, warm hood, wish it was removable. You can use it as a vest but I find this of limited use, however nice to have.

I was also hoping to review Valentina pumps in spicy gold but I have received a Lulu bangle instead. You would think they would notice that the jewerly box will not fit a pair of shoes but no... In case you are wondering, I do have them in other colors and the fit is great, TTS, comfortable, leather is soft, simply my favorite shoes. I seriously LUST after snakeskin red ones, alas cannot afford them :(

  56. @ Shariya: I have the Talia in wreath and the length is great for me. I'm 5'4" with a regular torso and it falls below my hips - good length to leave untucked or tucked. The size 00 measures 23" from shoulder to hem and 15.5" from underarm to hem. Hope this helps...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Regarding the Talia top: I just bought it yesterday in Royal Paisley. I believe the wildcat is similar to the paisley in that they are both not semi-sheer like the plain color Talia tops. I feel it runs a bit big: I have size 4 in Blythe blouses and bought a zero in this top. I have a long torso and found the length perfect for me to wear out (if I wanted to tuck it in say to pair it with the paisley skirt, I might have gone with a 2).

  58. Rose -- yes, that is the pencil skirt w/ the bow. The one I saw last night was definitely charcoal tones, not brown, so perhaps the photo is deceiving. Looked nicer in person IMO.

  59. I received my last 30% off sale box yesterday...cashmere boyfriend cardigan in plum orchard and cocoon cardigan in light grey (exact color is escaping me at the moment). I LOVE the boyfriend cardigan...beautiful color and I took my regular sweater size of M. It is slightly slouchier than a standard cardigan but not so much that it looks messy. Buttons are sturdy. This is my first JCrew cashmere purchase so we'll see how it does.

Cocoon cardigan - bought this more or less as a ride along...I must have missed the reviews on this because it is HUGE. Ordered my usual size M and it is super drapey in the front (and not in a good way). It was only $20 but it's probably going back.

My STAYWARM promo box just arrived...but I'm at work so all I can do is peek...initial impressions:
Double serge pencil in neon azalea - whoever compared this to a pink highlighter is correct, I would completely agree with this comparison. Not quite as pepto looking as the photo online - it is BRIGHT.

Perfect shirt in tartan - after seeing so many fun polyvore sets with this shirt I decided to try it out, despite the fact that I wore this plaid for eight years of grammar school.

Clea dress (vermont pine) - color is a bit greener than the online photo looks. Wool seems a little scratchy but it is lined. Excited to get this one home and tried on.

  60. Eygyptomaniac- how was the length of the factory black watch pants on you? I'm the same height as you and worried they will be too short.. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  61. mack- The length says 32.5". I can easily wear them with flats but heels are a no-go for me. I have a reveiw of the Blackwatch pants scheduled on my blog for Thursday too.

    ReplyDelete
  62. mack - I am 5'9" and they were too short on me by about 1-2". There was about a 1.25" hem; not enough to let down because I want to wear them with heels. You could let them down about 3/4" to wear with flats though. So sad.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Any reviews on the winter floral cardigan? I can't decide if I want to give it a try or not.

    ReplyDelete
  64. ajc, I too lust after the red snakeskin valentinas, even though they don't come in my size (11)... I will stuff myself into the 10s if they ever go on sale! They are to die for!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. My fairly restrained 25% off order:

Minnies in Vibrant Flame (finally succumbed) - super bright and more orangey than I had hoped but very "happy" pants. I just wish the waist wasn't so big. Might try a belt. Wearing with factory chambray shirt and navy ballet flats today. Will try with crisp white shirt or with black chunky boatneck sweater soon (Talbots Audrey sweater from last year).

Cafe Trouser in Desert (cotton): the third pair of J Crew tan trousers I'll be sending back because the fabric is too thin for the style and looks crumpled easily. Thinner than the classic cafe capris, for sure, and I wish the slash front pockets and stretchier fabric of the cafe capris had been used for the trouser. Also, the leg is too long and too flared (definitely longer than stated 33 in).

Bootcut jean in classic rinse wash - very nice fit, higher rise than previous J Crew trousers I've tried, all for the better. A bit long, again, but I suppose I can have these hemmed. Sizing similar to bootcut cords.

  66. There must be an in-store only pink of the double serge wool skirt, because the IRL pink skirt I've seen is a soft, almost baby pink. Its nothing like a highlighter. Has anyone else seen this pink?

    ReplyDelete
  67. blakemdjohns, I saw that pink skirt over the weekend at my local b&m. I'd almost describe it as a light rose. Must be in store only.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Dani BP, I received my clea dress yesterday and I really like it! Its a similar fit to the Teddie, but with a longer slimmer skirt. I would agree with others that the wool is a bit itchy, but it is lined so I don't think it will be a problem.

As for the themals, I sized up and they are plenty long in the sleeves and the body. I am only 5'5 so maybe it is a problem for taller gals.

Also, the sterling skirt was great on me! I have a small waist with bigger hips and it was very flattering. Wish it came in more colors!

    ReplyDelete
  69. blakemdjohns and Lauren PhD - I am really interested in the light pink pencil skirt you mentioned. It's not the Bright Violet color is it? Is it a nice color - I was so excited for the neon azalea but it sounds too bright compared to how it looks online.

Does anyone know the name of the light pink color or if it's in store only?

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ ajc: I'm so glad that you reviewed the Sterling Skirt - that was the exact same issue that I had with the Flair Skirt and I was SO bummed because I wanted to love the longer length an A-Line shape. I know that a ton of JCA's looked gorgeous in the Flair and so hopefully the Sterling will be a hit for them.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jan -- I'm sure the mystery light pink pencil skirt was in the September or October catalogue. It was a nubbly weave, not a flat wool like the Double Serge. Very similar in look to 2009's Blushed Tweed pencil skirt.

I saw it in the Toronto store and I'm sure it was in a recent catalogue.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Shariyu: The Cafe Capris in Wool Plaid look fantastic on you! I never even gave them a second glance online or in person, but they look phenomenal in your photos!

ajc: That is SO frustrating about the Valentinas, I hate when they do stuff like that, especially with final sale items that sell out before you realize that an error has been made.

blakemdjohns: Yes, I have seen the lighter pink No. 2 Pencil in stores and was also confused about the highlighter comments! I think that colour might be called "Dusty Violet" or something similar.

    Some reviews:

Honeycomb Cable Sweater - I tried this in XS in the red colour at my store and liked it but found it a bit boxy and loose through the body, so I ordered the XXS in the Heather Mint. It was still fairly boxy and loose through the body, but shorter (barely grazed the top of my jeans) with incredibly tight arms. Also, the fabric was shedding like crazy, so the point where there were chunks of it flying around the fitting room. Returned immediately.

Talia Top in wildcat - Fit TTS in my usual 0, I wouldn't size down. Pretty, but I can't do animal prints, nor will I pay that much for rayon.

Double Cloth Townhouse Trench - I got the 2T in the Heather Majestic Purple, which is a beautiful royal blue. For sizing purposes I wear a 2 in blazers and am 5'9. The fit was right on, but I couldn't layer a super chunky sweater or a blazer underneath. The colour is beautiful and I love the style and the gold buttons.

Hadley Sweater - I really like this one, though I haven't heard much about it. 100% merino and I think a good deal for the sale price minus 30%. TTS, no need to size down in this one (I sized down in the Tippi and the Betsy this season). I like the thick ribbing around the collar and the epaulets.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Clicquot - Thank you, I think that is the vintage tweed pencil skirt in blush. I'm in Canada too so it's nice to know it was in the Toronto store.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Forgot to mention the thermals! I am 5'9 and usually an XS in tops/sweaters and usually take a tall in coats/blazers for extra sleeve length. I sized up one to a Small in the thermals and don't find the sleeves to be particularly short, and definitely don't find the body to be short at all.

Be cautious about sizing up, though, since they do stretch with wear. I almost wish I'd gotten my usual XS, even though it was tight when I first put it on.

As for the No. 2 Pencil in the light pink, it's not the tweed version that was out earlier this year, it is double serge wool and is a pink/mauve colour.

    ReplyDelete
  75. OK, so after the initial disappointment (sniff, sniff) I went upstairs again to try on the Sterling skirt one more time with a cooler head (I was too excited about all those boxes showing up). It still does not work for me without tailoring but I think it may be a good fit for those of you with different proportions. If you have to size up in pencil skirts to accommodate hips or you often have 'gaping waist', issue this is probably a skirt for you. The color is very pretty, wool is soft and thick and the length is perfect. As a comparison, I am 29-3o in waist and 36-37 in hips and size 4 fits well in waist and is good couple inches too big in hip area. I'd say, go with your waist size on this one. Hth.

  76. I wore my Talia Top in wildcat to the office yesterday. I LOVE IT, and have no cares at all about the fabric content. :-) I felt very chic in it and got a boatload of compliments. The only thing I can say bad about it is that the sleeves are short. I figured I'd think of them as braclet length and I wore a enamel bangle on each wrist. I paired it with my dahlia cafe capris and really did feel like I just stepped out of the JCrew catalog.

Off topic--one of the women in my office has the instore only teal color pencil skirt. It's so lovely, I never seem to be able to snag it in my size. While I was chatting with her about it, I had to hide my deep, dark knowledge of JCrew. I'm new here and didn't want to scare her off with my obsessive knowledge. :-)

  77. ROFL, did we see now the online catalog has been revived? Too funny. I guess they felt the rage. :P Maybe that or that the poll they did last week about why ppl like to look at the catalog and the overwhelming majority that said they use it to put together outfits. Derrrrrrrrrrrr.

Glad they brought it back, though.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Re the thermals I am 5'4 long torso and I do not find the sleeves or the body short, however I do agree a tall person will have problems with the sleeve length.

  79. I have been wearing my biennial satchel off and on for two weeks. It's amazing! It can get heavy bu the leather is awesome and I only wish it had an adjustable cross body strap. I throw my iPad in one side and use the middle for essentials! I have it in saddle and am toying with the idea of getting it in red!

  80. I love my new houndstooth Minnies, but I did find them to run a smidge big. Even the 00 is a tad loose on me. I'd recommend sizing up.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Can anyone comment on whether they recommend sizing down on the Tippi sweaters?

Also, I know its a thin sweater, but is it so thin that you *must* wear something underneath? Thanks guys.

  82. The red Valentinas are now back ordered in all sizes until February. Well, there is single pair of size 8 still available.

  83. Sara, I had my personal shopper scour the country and alas, the mixed media skirt is no where to be found. Thanks for the great review though, if I see it on ebay or the exchange, I'll know to grab it!

  84. Lunchtime 25% Off Promo delivery reviews!

Jenna's Cardigan in Wildcat: Great print, soft, fluid, good quality merino. Fit is roomier than I expected - not boxy but definitely not as fitted as the description suggests. If you like very fitted cardis and have a small bust, you could definitely size down. Looks gorgeous with black and will be perfect for work, also sexy/sharp with jeans. I like this print b/c it's sort of a cross between an animal print and a polka dot.
Wool Houndstooth Cafe Capris: LOVE. Soft wool, great fit and construction, LINED...I'm tempted to buy the Plaid ones now because these are so fab. I took my usual 4 in Cafe Capris. They seem, quite handily, to be made for people with no waist/hips/butt to speak of so they are my favorite fitting pant. I wish all of the wool Cafe Capris were lined b/c the colors are beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Haha Whitney, people with no waist/hip or butt, that's me. And I do LOVE the fit on cafe capris and wool cafe trousers. Good to know I have a fit twin, I am also size 4. I will watch for your pants reviews, thanks.

  86. I have to reiterate cmg's review - the leopard capris are going back tomorrow - so sad! The print was nice and I did not find them itchy - but the fit was AWFUL! I have thin legs and they looked like the jewel jacquards - oddly baggy! My daughter remarked that they looked like pajama pants, which is definitely NOT the look going for!

Then the neon azalea pencil skirt arrived. Oh dear - too bright for me - or as my husband and daughter both said "pepto bismol" pink... sigh. I have sent back $600 worth of merchandise in last two days....

    ReplyDelete
  87. Lainey, I have reviewed the Tippi sweater here.

I wouldn't size down in it, or wear anything extra underneath. They are a good thickness.

  88. Hi, could someone please review the Valentina snakeskin pumps when they get them. I have previously purchased snakeskin shoes from J. Crew. The Jane flats from a couple of years ago was ah-mazing but the Lula from this year is very poor quality. Ugh. Dont want to pay upwards of $400 on a piece of nonsense. I'd rather buy a pair from Ralph Lauren if that's the case.

I have a follow up to the aviator chinos and farrow pant coming too.

  92. Really like the Shelly shirtdress. I have it in the original (not Thomas Mason) fabric. It looks as shown online. Pretty color, fairly loose fit, and not too short for me at 5'9"(yes!). You can roll the sleeves up too, which I always like to do. I think because it is a looser fit it will look best with a belt.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Not a fan of the Pixie pants, though I thought I would be. They feel a bit stiff and constrictive, and *camel toe alert* b/c of thicker fabric!

  94. I received my flannel-lined Waverlys yesterday and put up a review here. However, I did receive the wrong size (got a size 6 vs a size 4) so keep that in mind when you read the review. I'll make sure to put up a new review of the correct size once I get them!

  95. new reviews:
cashmere v-neck rugby stripe sweater in camel flame (LOVE IT!!)
    Waffled cashmere zip sweater
I halso have a few more coming, including the waverly chinos with flannel lining (57471), cashmere tee in neon azalea, (53268), cafe capri in wool houndstooth (56737), paley pants, vintage thermal tee in stripe in vintage champagne azalea (58407), past reviews also up for many things HERE

  96. Cashmere shell in navy: I usually love JCrew cashmere but this one is very thin and sort of itchy. Also it is a very fitted style to be worn alone (impossible to wear it over a shirt unless you go up at least on size). I need it to wear under a few blazers so I am keeping it but it isn't worth the promo price IMO and I would recommend to wait for a super-duper sale.

Classic mini in felted wool: this is actually a post-promo popback purchase as I really wanted the heather acorn color but it sold-out the first day in my two possible sizes. I ordered a 2 because I didn't want it to be too short but I should have sticked to my regular size 0 because the 2 without being too big has a slight A line that I am not sure I like. It is almost 3 inches longer than the grey that I have from 2010. It is lined in poly. I am on the fence about it and would probably try to catch a 0 to compare.

I agree with ajc that the girl's convertible puffer is very cozy and adorable (especially the cotton lining printed with stars) but I bought it for my daughter, not for me! Definitively a good buy with the 30% off.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hacking jacket in grape: I wasn't going to order this, because the petites had sold out, but turns out the sleeve length is the same in 4 as 6P. It is a bit itchy at the collar, but fine with a turtleneck or collared shirt.

Cambridge cable chunky turtleneck sweater: very itchy at the neck! On the model the neck looks quite loose, but in reality it was snug and far itchier than the Hacking jacket. Good length (just below hip on me, and I'm long-waisted), but on me it fitted big & was rather shapeless. The combo of being itchy and unflattering meant I sent it right back.

Cafe trousers in port wine: mixed feelings. Bad: it is NOT a dark red, or burgundy, it's a bold dark pink (I want to say fuchsia, but it's a few shades darker than that), they're completely unlined, and thus a bit itchy. They're also not quite as wide-legged as I would have liked. Good: colour is fun and flattering on me, 6P was perfect length (I'm 5ft4) and looks great with black. I wavered, but they were 25% off and I wanted some bright wideish-leg pants, so I'm keeping them. But why on earth aren't they lined?

    ReplyDelete
  98. @ ajc: I'll watch for your reviews on pants and skirts too! It's always so much fun to stand in front of the dressing room mirror and decide which is the lesser of two evils: butt sag or muffin top....

Other loves include the Minnie Pant (stretch twill version), No. 2 Pencil Skirt, and, for some inexpensive classic boot-cut jeans, Gap's Long and Lean fit. Size down to a 2. Not kidding - they stretch out a lot after an hour of wear but they look awesome.

  100. A couple more reviews:

Sterling skirt - Ladies, it has a sewn in waistband, not grosgrain ribbon! Nice to see. I like this skirt. It is roomy in the hips. I went up a size because it hits high on the waist and I hate a tight waist. I would call and get measurements before you order.

Crewneck henley - I am in the love camp. In fact I put it on and I can't bear to take it off. Wondering if I can manage to wear it under a suit coat tomorrow to work. Thinking not but sounds so comfy.

    ReplyDelete
  101. By the reviews I'm tempted more by the sterling skirt (I have this body type everyone says it looks good on). I just bought a khaki skirt. Anyone get the grey color?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sorry I meant Thermal Crewneck above.

  103. Whitney and ajc-I'm a joiner to your club. I lurv Cafe Capris...that style is made for me. I also wear the toothpick ankle stretch jeans, and bootcut jeans/cords over matchstick. I appreciate ajc's pant reviews b/c we share the same shape. Hutton chinos and Heritage too are some faves. I am seriously considering Minnies on my next JCrew in store try on session-and I didn't think I'd go there, but what the hey.

    ReplyDelete
  104. 25% off reviews:

Waverly flannel lined chinos- I am on the fence. Like the comfy factor and will wear them to death. Not sure if Waverly are a good style for me....too peg leg, wish they were straight. They are a bit short, only rolled one time and they hit me mid ankle bone and I'm only 5'5". I don't think I can pull off the look the model is wearing w/o sizing up.

Dream Turtleneck-keeper. Heavier than the Merino turtlenecks, same nice narrow silhouette. Black is a true black.

Cashmere scarf 54297- it's lightweight, it's stretchy, it can be wrapped different ways, it's a keeper. Grey is a nice warm grey.

Men's cashmere scarf in patriot plaid-the off-white portion is more tan. Nice, wide, good weight without being bulky. Looks good with black or navy. For my dad :>

Flannel PJ in polka dot Navy- Love. Like this weight better than the vintage pajama set I also have. Not too heavy, not stiff at all. Soft. Really like the feminine fit of both tops and bottoms.

Cafe Capris in houndstooth wool 49396- Love. Lined. Versatile pattern. Shot of light blue in the weave perks it up, and gives you options for tops.

Cafe capris in toile jaquard- Love. But kind of tight. I bet if you had 2 pairs in the same size they would both fit differently. They just seem sewn cheaply (?) to make parts of the pant tight whereas the rest be TTS. On the fence.

Skinny calf hair belt in grey/black- really like. Already wore with camel pants and grey merino turtleneck. I think this belt in the grey/black has the ability to pull outfits together.

Boy shirt in Thomas Mason- I love the boy shirt and I love this option in a finer cotton. I also have the boy shirt in the "regular" cotton, which is thin. TM fabric is smoother, slicker and a bit heavier. Creases well. Love. More boy shirts in diff. fabrics please.

Perfect shirt in Tartan-did they change the sizing or the cut of the perfect shirt? I held this up to a PS from 2010....this is much smaller. Kind of tight across back. The back is actually smaller than the front plackets. It also curves in at the waist, vs. previous incarnations which were straight up and down. Hm. Just doesn't feel comfortable on.

  105. My Monas arrived today and I'm torn... They are gorgeous and will go with everything (got the leather in warm taupe) and I went half size up as some say they are a small fit. But now I'm not sure what my regular size would be like and these are a touch big. I could do insole + heel grip on these 7.5 but I can't help but wonder if the 7 would be a better fit, or if it'll be too tight.

Anyone try their regular JC size in Monas plus half size up? How do they compare?

@ Rose: thank you for the help with the Tippi!

  107. I just received my STAYWARM boxes and wanted to review some of the items!

Tinsel Tweed Pencil Skirts in Purple: Hated the fabric. It feels cheap and and is not very forgiving in the tummy area. I got it in a size 4 and it fits fine, but I much prefer the no. 2 pencils in the double serge wool.

Double Serge Wool Hacking Jacket in Bright Berry: Loved the color. It's fun and thank god, not as bright and orange as I feared it would be. It's quite a hefty jacket. I thought it would be similar in feel to the schoolboy, but it is much thicker. Very nice weight. I ordered it in the heather acorn as well because it is just very beautiful. It is also not itchy like the herringbone.

Heart Me Sweater in black/acorn and navy/green: Like another person said, they are quite itchy. It also felt quite short on me. I am 5'5, and Jcrew sweaters are usually a good length, but these just felt shorter than usual. I usually wear a small, but got these in a medium to layer and I just like the slouchy look. The sweater is actually quite boxy. I really like the black/acorn colorway, not so much the navy/green.

Majesty Peacoat in Fiesta Purple: LOVE IT! I got it in a size 4, though my other Jcrew outerwear are size 6's. It fits well and is cut very well in all the right places. I would definitely order it in another color when it goes on sale. I'm eyeing the red!

    Ok, that's all for now!

    ReplyDelete
  108. @Whitney - would you believe I raced over to the JC site to look for the silk leopard lame shirt thinking I may have missed a treasure?! And ... this devotee of animal print and shiny things will have to pass on it.

And thanks to all who passed on your experience with the leopard jacquard pants and heart me sweater. Saves me from pining after, I was thinking them together for valentine's day ...

  109. Just posted IRL pics and reviews of the Carrick plaid shirt, Suckered Plaid shirt, cashmere scarf in plaid, and Waverly lined chinos here

Plus, no pictures, but I tried the navy/green striped sweater dress and it was acutally cuter than I expected. I got it too big though -- was swimming in the small. If they have it in-store, I'll retry and take pics.

Finally, tried the Stripe Popover Sweatshirt. Cute, but should have sized down to XS for sure. Also, it was longer than I would have liked, and didn't seem quite as flattering as others. But that could all totally be due to size. The inside was sooooo soft. I loved the navy/grey colorway.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I ordered the Lydia blouse, the henna Flair skirt and the Sterling skirt with the last promo.

The blouse was beyond awful. It is completely see through in the ivory and was huge in the armholes/neck on me in my usual size and far too tight in the hip. If you are boarderline petite and have curvy hips like I do, I would not recommend.

The Flair skirt's fit is consistant with the navy and camel I have been wearing, but the color is a washed out rust. It is much more brown than it looked on JC's site and the two blogs on which I have seen it reviewed.

The Sterling skirt is lovely. I bought a 6 based on the waist measurement. I also bought an 8P as I was unsure of the longer length on my 5'4" frame. I love the way both fit, but the skirts look very different. The 8P has a shape and fit very similar to my size 6 Flair skirts and looks adorable with flats. The 6 fits the same but is about 1.5 inches longer and is less flippy at the bottom due to the extra length and is perfect with heels. I may actually keep both to wear with different shoes.

  111. I tried on the Flair skirt yesterday at my b&m. Omg, it was horrible on me. *sadness* I'm a 10 in JC pencil skirts and I tried a 12 and it just fit in the waist. I'm pretty much straight up and down. Not much waist, no hips either. I looked like a blimp and the pleating at the waist did me no favors. I knew it wouldn't work b/c of the pleats, but so was hoping it would. Yeah, I think this one is probably better off on smaller girls or those of you w/tiny waists. I know this has been reviewed a lot, but thought I'd share my take on it.

  112. Update for anyone who is interested. My lace crochet front tee is seriously too short!! I do not have a long torso or anything 9but I am 5'8"), but if I buy another one I think I need to see if the XS is significantly longer than the XXS and just have it be a bit looser fit. I wore it out yesterday and it was SO annoying!! I was sitting in a cab and the back of my shirt was half way up my back...and wearing a cami underneath didn't really solve the problem...If anyone else has any input on length difference between these sizes this would be welcome. I guess I am just glad I only bought one to start with...

    ReplyDelete
  113. I ordered the waffle henley as a ride along (the blue stripe) and I love it so much that I am keeping it. My normal size fit well. I tried a size up at the store and it felt slouchy and not nearly as cute. I will definitely buy another one.

Anyone find that the veridian green skirt fit tighter than the other no2 skirts this season?

Just an fyi - the no2 skirt in jazzy purple is back in stock.

    ReplyDelete
  114. @ Sara: I wore one of my solid Thermal Henleys to work with a suit jacket and trousers last week. Felt totally appropriate (and cozy!). The gold buttons really dress it up.
@ pathos: Will now check out the Toothpick jeans and TM Boyshirt based on your reviews. LOVE the fit of my silk stripe Boyshirts and wish that J.Crew would add more solids and prints in this fit. I find the Minnies to be super comfy and stylish and the twill really snaps into shape well...but they are definitely form-fitting. I like the Minnies b/c I like my legs; my mom thinks that she has fat knees and ankles (silly) and didn't like them at all.
@ Tiffany Rose: That Leopard Lame top looks like a Wet Seal original, no?

  115. ITA with Pathos on the Waverly flannel lined chinos. I don't particularly care for the slimmer legs. I guess I was expecting a fit more like my old favorite fit flannel lined chinos from 2007, which have a wider straight leg.

I also received the neon azalea pencil skirt yesterday and I'm surprised at the bright color. It's pretty, just very bright. I saw a pencil skirt in store last week that I thought it was the same skirt, but I swear the color was a little more muted. Is there another similar pink skirt out now? Or am I just not remembering the color accurately?

  116. A couple of boxes just arrived for me...

Count me among the fans of the Isabel cashmere sweatshirt -- how can you not love this?? The hyacinth (lavender) colour is saturated & beautiful. I took my regular size S after reading JCA reviews. IMO it fits very similarly to the Merino Boyfriend sweater -- I could have sized down but because of the cropped style I think the proportion wouldn't have looked as good. LOVE!

The enameled bangle bracelets that I bought as gifts, unfortunately, have to go back. I got one for myself and it *just* fits, but I worry that they will be too small for a number of the friends I bought them for. The colours are really so nice...I think I may end up keeping a few for me ;-)

The Waverly lined chinos are here too, but I'll have to wait till I get home from work to try them on. I'm glad to hear people's usual sizes are working and that the flannel isn't too thick. I love the colour -- not too brown, not too green, just the right amount of gray.

  117. Whitney - did you size down in the Minnie stretch twill pants?TIA

  119. Cliquot & Jan, the skirt that I saw was definitely not the vintage tweed skirt. The skirt was a double serge wool pencil skirt, but it was the same dusty rose as the vintage tweed skirt. Personally, I didn't care for the color.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Lauren PhD - Thank you- This mystery skirt is confusing. I had called and asked CS about it and was told only 2 colors were in store only for the double serge pencil skirt and neither were a light pink. Is the mystery skirt the Bright Violet color?

  121. @ mary eb: I take a size 4 in Minnies, same as I do in the Cafe Capri as they seem to be shaped well for slim-hipped/thicker waisted figures. Sizing up in the Minnies would mean bagginess in the rear for me. I take a 6 in most of J.Crew's wool suiting trousers and skirts. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Thanks Whitney. I take a size 2 petite in the cafe capris or 26 short in the matchstick cords and denim. So I guess I should get a 2 petite in the Minnies.

  123. OT, but does anyone recall if JC typically does an outerwear promo before Christmas?

  124. @Lainey - I ordered the black suede Monas in my regular size, and can barely get them on, the tobox is super tight, you can see my pinky toes through the suede. I just ordered a half size up and should have them by the end of the week, will report back.

I have always been a 6.5 -7, these will be my first pair of 7.5s, I hope they work, as I want to LOVE them.

    ReplyDelete
  125. @ Kelley: thanks for your input! and please do post again when you get the 7.5s.

I have also always been 6.5 (open toe) or 7 (closed) and the Coddingtins were the only shoes I ever bought in 7.5 cause the JC website said to order up half size. I noticed they did not say that about the Monas but I did anyways due to the reviews. My fear is that the 7s are too small and the 7.5 too big :( They are so beautiful though!

  126. OT: The new J Crew holiday bags are so cute!! Yes, I mean the paper shopping bags and yes, I am a J Crew geek!

Thought it was weird that the B&M I visited today still didn't have the holiday catalog out, while the one I was at over the weekend had them all over the place.

  127. Ladies, has anyone seen the No 2 pencil skirt in vintage tweed, blush color in their store recently? I'm trying to locate a size 6 in store.
    Thank you!

  128. jan: There were a few in the Walden Galleria store in Buffalo, NY this past Friday. Give them a try!

  129. Jan -- call customer service to do a WWFIFY on the skirt. I've had really good luck doing that, and easier on you, too!

  130. jan, I just got home from the Short Pump, Virginia J Crew (mostly returns and watchbands for $6.00!!) and the sale section there had at least 7 or 8 vintage tweed skirts in the blush pink color. Give them a call to check your size! 804-364-9561

shopalot: I rec'd one of those holiday bags today and commented how cute they were!, so I'm a jc geek along with you!

  131. Caitlin, Clicquot, Suzy - Thank you so much for your help. No luck yet re: finding my size but I really appreciate your help. :)

  132. Jan, I used the WWFI for the Vintage Tweed in Blush Size 8 last week and it arrives on Friday. I did see some in the San Diego (619 491 0054) store last week so you might check with them. There was a good sized stack of the blush.

  133. Hi, I'm a long-time lurker, but thought I should contribute now that I have my own blog/blogger account.

I picked up the Plaza Coat with Thinsulate during the STAYWARM promo. The coat was disappointing--the wool was thin and not thick and plush like the Majesty Peacoat's. The cut was boxy and the sleeves were on the short side.

Here are the measurements for 00R:

    Shoulder: 14.75"
    Bust: 17"
    Length: 35"
    Sleeves: 24"

    ReplyDelete
  134. @ Jan, I asked my SA about the rose pink double serge skirt and she said the color is Violet. Whether it's Bright Violet or Dusty (?) Violet, I don't know. I've seen the skirt in at least 3 stores now so there are plenty out there. It might be in store only for now, but JC is weird -- it might 'debut' online next month for all we know. In contrast, I haven't seen the Neon Azalea skirt in store at all.

  135. Has anybody found the work dresses to run large? My measurements are 34.5-27-40, and I found the size 6 Origami sheath dress to be too big. Does the Emmaleigh fit better or should I order a 4? I don't live near a retail store, so I'm petty dependent on reviews and sizing info. Thanks! (And for the "looking to buy" section, I'm seeking an Emmaleigh dress in size 4 that would suit my cool colouring).

  136. OT: There are a few new J.Crew items on Net-A-Porter this week that didn't make it on to the J.Crew website yet. More details in this post. :)

  137. @Caroline - Thank you, unfortunately they didn't have my size but I really appreciate your help. The WWFI came back as a no but I'll try to find a size 4 or else I'll have to give up. :)

@dinster - Thank you for the info. It must be the violet color that some JCAs had reviewed on their blog.

  138. I just added a follow up review the the Aviator chino and Farrow trouser HERE

    ReplyDelete
  139. @ jen, I agree with dinster, it must be the n.2 in bright violet that actually reads as a dusty pink. I have been to a store today and the had the whole new collection but there was only this one in a shade of pink.

  140. I went to a B&M today and I bought the flair skirt in heather acorn (finally on sale for $69.99 before 30% off) and the leopard calf hair belt in the grey colorway ($39.99 before discount). The flair skirt in floating rose was also $69.99 before discount. Blouson dress is still $89.99 in store as it is (it was before disppearence) online.

Love, love, love the striped leggings (the ones brown with black stripes, #51107) that are currently soldout on the website. I have always been strangely attracted to them but never dared to try them on (especially when they were on fs on the website). Of course they are very body-contouring but they are very flattering and slimming (I am petite and fairly small but I don't always look good in leggings). I sized down to a XXS because I am only 5'2" and there is no extra fabric (which is usually a problem with leggins for me), they fit perfectly. Now I just have to dare to wear them outside ;-). They were $54.99 before discount in store (same price than website before they soldout, if I am not wrong).

  141. If it's the Bright Violet (code BVI), I have photos of it on my blog here. HTH

  142. A couple of quick reviews while the 30% off promotion is still going on...

    (1) Diana dress, item 42927, $395 orig. pricel, $140 after discounts

    http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/strapless/PRDOVR~42927/42927.jsp

Gorgeous, really gorgeous material. Heavy silk and stunning print. Unfortunately, fit is all wrong for me. I am a large 2/small 4 on top (34B+) and a solid 0 bottom in Jcrew sizing, almost always a size 2 in dresses. I have at least six jcrew strapless dresses in a size 2, so that's what I ordered. This dress has an inner corset (boning, they call it), and it squishes everything up and out. Yikes. But, the skirt half is generous, so I would not be able to size up. It is a gorgeous dress however, at a great price, for those who are even on top and bottom or smaller on top.

    (2) Winsome dress in blurry rose (50355), original price $198, on sale for about $80 after 30% off.

I finally caved and purchased this at my local store (Tyson's in Virginia). They still have several sizes. This runs slightly large, but I would not say a full size large. I am almost always a 2 in dresses, but with this one, the 2 was loose at the shoulders, waist and hips, but the 0 was tight at the bust, so I got the 2 as I cannot stand that binding feeling. I paired it with a skinny gold belt and it looked much much better.

When I originally tried this a couple weeks ago, it was a pass for me. I had also tried the bonnie dress in floral taffeta, and that looked about 30 times better on me. I asked my sales associate about the winsome dress and she asked if I needed a church dress? It is, undoubtedly, a conservative dress and I am not a conservative dresser, so I passed. But, then, I saw this dress popping up on so many blogs looking as lovely as ever, so I gave it another try. It still isn't stunning on me, but there are so many lovely details about it -- the print, the color, the fabulous 120s wool fabric. I don't have any dresses remotely like this, so it was worth the sale price for me.

    (3) Waverly chino with flannel lining (item 57471), $89.50. Not on current promotion.

So comfy, but as I suspected, this is just so unflattering for me. I bought, mainly because I was reminiscing about my boys wearing the flannel lined gap jeans when they were toddlers. Flannel lined pants are ADORABLE on babies, but really, how could they even possibly be flattering on adults??? And on me, they weren't, so back they go.

    (4) Boardwalk-stripe zipper tee (item 57707) (orig. $52, $24.50 after discounts)

This was a surprise love! I tried it in-store and it is available in all sizes online in the navy/pink stripe. So cute, TTS.

    (5) Vintage cotton baseball tee (item 49491) (orig. $59.50, $28 after discounts)

This was a surprise HATE. I love baseball tees so I ordered this in the navy/grey w/o reading that it has silk sleeves. Weird?? In any case, this just isn't for me.

    (6) Cece and Lula flats. In general

I LOVE these. SUCH a big improvement over past jcrew flats! The ceces, IMO, run TTS, the Lulas, with the elastic, run small, I always order 1/2 size up. Great support/padding, and I have fit issues with shoes and both of these have elastic (ceces in front, lulas in back) that help them stay on better.

  143. audreys, that is so cute that you ordered the flannel chinos because they reminded you the pants that your boys used to wear when they were toddlers. I have a 4 year old daughter and I would just freeze time right now, I already miss this age (and yes, I just ordered a pair of the Gap fleece-lined jeans for her!)

  144. @Whitney - that top looks like a wet leopard seal, heheh (sorry, I couldn't resist).

of the Cece Glitter Bow flats in case they pop back. LOVE!

Also, I finally broke out my McAlister wedges that I got end-of-season last year. Wore them all day, literally chasing a 3-year-old, and they were so, so comfortable. Highly recommend! Now I want the shearling version. ;)

  148. This is a CrewCuts review, for the
Kids' Sperry Top-Sider® Authentic Original nubuck chukka. They are adorable shoes...I absolutely love them, but they run small. Definitely size up...my son wears a 9.5 and we bought a 10 and had to exchange them for an 11, which fits perfectly with no room to grow. Also, you have to really cinch the laces when you knot them to keep them from coming undone.

  151. I tried on the sweatpant trousers today (on sale) and they are horrible! I was hoping they would be warm and semi-presentable in public but alas, they are paper thin and a magnet for lint.

I'm still a big fan of the Waverly chinos but I've tried on the Bennett chinos twice and they're way too tight in the ankle area (but loose in the thighs). Yuck. I'm also disappointed with the minimalist mockneck sweaters. They look absolutely gorgeous on the rack but fit in a really boxy, unflattering way.
