Spring 2012 Preview {who's that?!}

A big "thanks!" to Marietta who shared the following images with us. They are a preview to the Spring 2012 Collection from... ANN TAYLOR!!!

Many of the pieces instantly reminded me of J.Crew. All those vibrant shades and capris... absolutely lovely!

Super cute bags, shoes, and jewelry in bright candy colors, perfect for Spring!

And there are lots of dresses to make you forget about the cold temperatures...

Can't wait to see what else Ann Taylor offers!

  1. Beautiful colors! The collection reminds me of J.Crew too Alexis. I would love it if Ann Taylor finally offered shipping to Canada.

  2. Oh how pretty! Plus AT always has amazing sales and promos online, not just in the stores. :)

  3. So pretty! I love color, so it's nice to see. I am hoping those blue capris in the first pic fit me well. :)

  4. Wow, that looks very JC-ish. AT does have 40% sales constantly, it seems.

  5. Such pretty, vibrant colors! So funny, b/c I was just in a store recently, and they were doing market research interviews (I got a $25 GC for 10 min of my time, nice!). I remember saying a number of times that they could use some more color. The day I was in there, it was all a bit drab. Love that they were already going in that direction. Oh, and I was in there yesterday for a minute and they had a really pretty bright blue bag.

  6. Oh wow. I didn't read the whole intro and just assumed it was J Crew...interesting! Will they drop some of their synthetic fibers and start using more silk, wool, linen, etc.? We shall see ...

  7. It's similar and yet not quite right. I look at the pictures and feel like something is a bit off. Like the tan flats with blue toe caps. It should work in theory but it just doesn't. I honestly didn't see J. Crew looking at these shots. Other than the use of color, it reminds me much more of H&M or Topshop.

AT is great for sales and promos and I think they're a good store for basics, especially business basics. I don't shop there much though and this isn't likely to change that especially since I've been much happier with J. Crew's directly lately.

  9. Desert Flower, I feel the same way! There is definitely something "off" about it. I never buy anything at Ann Taylor even though I look and try on... I just keep coming back to J.Crew.

  10. Sorry, but I think the clothing just looks cheap. I agree with the comparison to H&M or Topshop.

While I have a strong preferrence for neutrals and muted tones, I do have a few brights that I adore such as vibrant plum, poppy and bright flame from J Crew was well as some brights from Boden. Ann Taylor's colors do not appeal to me in the least in these photos.

I did pick up a couple skirts from Ann Taylor over the summer in navy cotton and an awesome leopard print in a silk and cotton blend. I also bought a couple of silk blouses similar to the Blythe, but with a better fit (for me at least) and a few neutral colored printed camis that are mainstays in my current rotation. Nothing out of the last few rollouts has appealed to me in the least. They were doing so well for a while, but lately their styles have zero appeal to me. I am also sick of the polyester that they have been favoring lately.

  11. I agree with both of y'all about something being a little 'off' but didn't want to be the one to bring it up, as some ppl here have fussed at me in the past for saying as much. But I had the same impression, esp. with regard to the dresses done in the print fabrics in one of the pics. Those prints did not say JC to me, but the color palette and the pics of the accessories groupings did.

I do think AT has made great strides in recent years as far as their styling goes, and they've made some very smart moves by using Katie Holmes and Demi Moore in their ad campaigns, etc.

  12. Good news. I've actually shopped ANN for more than 20 years and I am feeling the colors (and the extended sizing, which JCG is only getting into now via bridal).
Of course, I'd also like to see what JCG has in store for S/S 2012 (hopefully some nice pink featherweight cashmere).

  13. I am glad this isn't J. Crew. It looks so dowdy.

  14. LOVE those captoe flats. I'm not a fan of their clothing generally, but I have several pairs of Ann Taylor shoes. Their heels hold up well and are great for work.

  15. I do love the colors in the first photo. Anne Taylor's clothes have been very neutral for the past five or six years. I remember one winter when they did all sorts of greens and purples. Everything ended up on sale because the colors were so hard for most people to wear. I got a scarf in my all-time favorite green for next to nothing. The next year, they stuck to black, white, and taupe.

  16. I agree with the others -- to an untrained eye, it might look like JCrew, but something's off. It could be the styling, or not getting colors/shades just right, in the way that JC is so pitch perfect. I've also gone to Ann Taylor to try on some blazers & blouses and the cheap fabrications and sometimes weird cuts (like really, a faux lapel that is stitched down in the shoulder so there's not a back portion of the lapel?) are a big turnoff. They might try to copy, but they just don't quite get it.

That's not a slam on JCAs & other bloggers who can rock AT, though! I occasionally find gems at AT & Loft, but it's rare.
