Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I don't plan on going this weekend, but look forward to hearing reports from those who do visit. :)

  2. Nope, I'll be checking out the stores that are actually having Labor Day sales this weekend (and there are a lot of them!).

    ReplyDelete
  3. @silver_lining yep
    checking out the other stores
GAP had a 50% off yesterday,
JC sent me an email with a big sale but of course when you click through it says "final" bleh
but i will check it out, the sales ladies at the mall I usuallly go to are really nice.
Bloomies is having a big sale too.
should be a good shopping weekend

  4. I got an e-mail that Premium Outlet Malls are having a Labor Day sale starting today and J. Crew Factory has a coupon for 20% off $175 purchase (there are other coupons too for Banana, Loft, the other usual outlet suspects).

If you have one near you, you can go to the website and you can print out the offers you are interested in.

I'm going for other stores for my kids, but I'll probably pop in to JC to see if there are any retail items in the back. I've seen a few lately.

    ReplyDelete
  5. One of these weekends I'll get over to the new Toronto store, but not this time.
    Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  6. OT: If history repeats itself, I foresee an extra percentage off sale items after labor day. We shall see...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm actually getting to go to a mall (maybe even 2!) this weekend while I'm in Charlotte. I'm mostly taking items back, but I'm anxious to see some of the new arrivals in person. If I end up trying on and taking pics, I will be sure to post on my blog!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm not going this weekend but sometime next week for some returns.

    Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

  9. Just got an email that Madewell is doing 30% off jeans, jackets, and boots. I'm thisclose to pulling the trigger on the archival leather boot, but don't know how they fit. Has anyone tried them out?

    Have a great friday!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I need to drop off my pre-authorized returns, and I may do that today depending on how crowded the mall looks from the outside. :)

This morning I ordered the Seraphina collage dot dress in the natural/black color combo for $99 -- I hope it fits! I need it for a wedding I have coming up.

I also bought the pearl snowball necklace, marked down to $59.99. I've been looking for it for a long time, so I was thrilled to be able to grab it. It appears to be gone now.

Agree with cuckoo, I think we'll see another % off sale following the holiday -- getting to be like Walmart ... 'Watch out for falling prices!' lol.

Happy holiday weekend to all -- if any JCAs are in the Gulf, please be safe!

    ReplyDelete
  11. lol, Elaine, not sure how the Merchant Prince likes being categorized with Walmart!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. FYI - No. 2 skirt in Jazzy Purple is back online. Back ordered to 10.17.11

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm hoping to get there tomorrow, but we'll see. I'm also guessing there will be a % off after labor day.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I might venture to the outlets... we'll see...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Beware what is in the sale section, I just received a a package that was marked a size 8 but the shorts were a size 12.

    ReplyDelete
  16. After my glowing review of the Vintage Tweed Jacket, I read so many negative reviews. I don't think its too boxy, but I agree that the buttons are a bit cheap looking, and its possible that the shape could be a bit more flattering. So, I'm thinking of bringing it with me this weekend and possibly returning it. I would like to try on a pair of the wool cafe capris.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh will someone look out for the plaid version of the wool flair skirt and take a pic, please pretty please?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm hoping to run out to the outlet after work today to see if anything catches my eye. Probably won't go to the retail store. Already purchased the telegraph skirt this morning which showed back up in my size after weeks of stalking the website. I figured I'd better snag it now before it disappears again.

  19. Bourbon&Pearls - You can see a pic on jcrewobsession's blog here: http://jcrewobsession.blogspot.com/2011/08/newest-arrivals-not-yet-online.html (fifth photo down). HTH!

  20. Devon,

I tried on the Madewell archive boots the last two years and they definitely ran big. The shaft is wide and the foot part is really big too. I'm normally a 5.5 in shoes and 6 in boots, but the 6 in these boots was huge on me. I'm so happy that this year they come in 5.5, so I can finally get them. At 30% off it's a good deal too because these never go on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Caitlin: Want it!!
    Thanks so much.

    ReplyDelete
  22. OT - J. Crew must be the only retailer that doesn't have a sale this long weekend. I get bombarded with e-mails from all the others about their specials.

I wonder who's in charge of marketing at J. Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Devon, I am curious about those as well. They are a really good price with the additional 30% off.

I need a pair of long boots without a heel. I have a heck of a time finding any that fit because they are always too large at the top.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rose - it's odd, isn't it? Yeah, there might be a % off promo next week, but I'd be willing to bet a lot of people will have spent their $ at other retailers over the weekend.

I wonder how this going private/less promos approach is working out for JC, both in the short and long-term.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wonder too, Rose. I'm starting to think there's no one at the helm of marketing or customer service. I'm constantly awed at how the company's operations fly in the face of how things should be, and yet it's profitable. And we still love them.

My name is Elaine and I'm a J. Crew addict. I need retail rehab. But you, I'll be looking cute while I'm there. :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. silver_lining, I am guessing they are relying on the 'cult-like' following more than they are on sales. Even when I go to the B&M store, it is one of the few stores who has very few people visiting.

As you say, it will be interesting to see, although now no one but the inside shareholders will be able to see their financials.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Has anyone tried on any of the Dream sweaters this season? Just wondering how the quality is. My Dream sweater from last year didn't hold up so well. However the Dream sweaters circa 2006 were so nice, help up well and were my wardrobe favorites.

Elaine: LOL over your Walmart comment. Should J Crew also start having an employee stand at the door and say, "welcome to J Crew, would you like a shopping cart?" :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm in camp Not this weekend. Way too many enticing offers from other retailers I like to patronize J.Crew when it is being so unpatriotic as to go sales-free through Labor Day. Somebody at corporate needs to go back to school....

@blakemdjohns: I was one of the ones who rejected the tweed jacket. The buttons were a lesser issue for me (I would just have replaced them), but I couldn't stand how, when I buttoned the jacket, the bottom of the plackets gaped straight out. Did you have this problem? I also found the jacket very thick - I just don't think I could wear it indoors without boiling, even in winter.

    ReplyDelete
  29. blakemdjohns - I have the Vintage Tweed Jacket and I love it! I don't find it to be too boxy at all. I say if you really like it and it fits you well, then you should keep it! Every body is different and clothing doesn't look the same on every type of body. The key is finding the pieces that look great on you!

    ReplyDelete
  30. CCS: I'd love to know how you're planning on wearing it, or with what? Even with just a camisole underneath, I felt too insulated. I'm glad you like yours - I really wanted mine to work.

  32. No Labor Day sale this weekend?? What gives?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I believe the same person who decided to discontinue having catalogs on the web, the Valedictorian from the University of Uranus, found a classmate to handle coordinating "promotions" with the calendar. Alas, this person was told, upon hire, "What we do here works, so don't change anything." Hence, no sales on Labor Day weekend, no birthday discounts, irrational "presents," and so on. Apparently sitting still and hoping for sales is good business practice on his/her home planet. It worked with his/her first job, an intergalactic lemonade stand.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Right, WFF. And it must be the same person who decided that a 50% price hike in Europe and no Sale section was a brilliant idea.
Must have worked on his/hers part of the galaxy

    ReplyDelete
  35. I just got an Anthro catalog today, and shipping and returns are both free for the month of September. No minimum required but the order must contain some full-price merch.

There really are great incentives at other retailers I like these days, but here I sit. With my 4-digit August J.Crew bill. *Shakes head*

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know, ruffles. We are a sorry lot!

Fred, I wondered whether you ahd chanced upon the, err, Frontier Pant in your JC travels...? I saw them and instantly thought of you. :P

My verification word is 'humbud.' Indeed! No summer clearout sale on Labor Day weekend? Bah humbud!

    ReplyDelete
  37. i just came back from jcrew store in NYC on 5th & 17th they were running a promo on fishermans sweaters for $78 (orig.$98 i believe) and also $10 off scarfs. Had a very nice selection of cashmere (no promo though) and cafe capris in wool

    ReplyDelete
  38. Stopped by my store in Park Meadows Mall and low and behold some sweet person had returned a Perfect Shirt in Leopard Sz. 4, which is currently shipping on 11-14 online. (They also had a size 2). Thank you, how did you know it was my birthday today? Saw the same promos as Sophia. They had a sale section but nothing caught my eye. I am thinking too with all the merchandise there should be a % off sale next week. Happy Labor Day weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We are driving to Grand Rapids to visit our daughter at college so I will definitely pop into the B&M there...wish they were having a % off!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm interested in the Carbo handbag on the Factory website. Has anyone purchased this bag or seen it in person? The original version at JCrew sold like hotcakes, so I'm a little suprised (and suspcious) as to why this one is still around...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, I was let out of work early today so naturally I stopped at the mall on the way home. I ended up with the Shutterbug Dress in heather coal, which is really cute but not at all what I imagined it would be like from looking at the photo. The knit is really thick and it runs small. The small (my normal size) was so tight in the arms and generally unflattering. The medium was perfect. This will be a really great dress for when it's 20 degrees out but you don't feel like wearing pants. It's very nice and the sleeves are close fitting enough that it will be great under a blazer.

Oh, and it was on sale for $54.99 as opposed to full price online.

Also tried on the new polka dot short sleeved silk blouse. Holy matronly! Ick. Also hating the exposed zippers. Enough!

    ReplyDelete
  42. KER, do you mean the campo bag? I've seen it in person and the leather is just... cheap. It looks like a faux leather bag you'd find on the clearance rack at TJ Maxx for $30. I have the original one and the leather is totally different. It seems they screwed up and made this one just too cheap even for factory.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Elaine, the Frontier pant! Oh, Oh. Beyond belief? Even Ralph, in his worst log-cabin covered-wagon extravaganzas, never ever... Oh my goodness gracious. Why?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just received my vintage tweed jacket and skirt in navy today! Despite some of the negative reviews, I absolutely LOVE both pieces. I am about 5'0 and just under 100lbs and as a suit, it works well for my boyish figure. Yes, the jacket and skirt are on the thicker side, but it doesn't bother me at all, nor do the buttons. I really think both pieces give me a nice shape and look great with the tipi sweater in mustard and skinny belt. So excited to wear it together and to mix & match when the weather cools down a bit. The quality seems excellent to me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I also tried the Blythe blouse and the middle button pulls too much even in a size up (the rest of the blouse fits great).
The Puff-sleeve popover in vibrant flame is on sale for $45 I think (same gaping problem as the Blythe for me).
No Final Sale in the Sale section.

  47. JcrewJD- Yes, I meant the Campo bag! I had a feeling it was not nearly as nice as the original! Thanks for the heads up!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sorry forgot to add, the Jardin skirt is on sale. I think the price was around $50.
No. 2 skirt in the new blue color is gorgeous.
The shorts online are cheaper than the in store sale.
Sorry, I had to run fast through the store.

  49. Was in the B&M on Thursday and there were lots of new markdowns. Snagged the Toile Jacquard Origami Mini for $69.99 - couldn't resist!

  52. JCrewJD, I also tried the Shutterbug Dress and it fit TTS on me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I also bought the shutterbug dress, but found it tts. The arms were a tad tight, but since JC items typically stretch, I'm expecting this one to also. I can't wait for it to cool down so I can wear it! I think it will look adorable with tights and boots. And it looks best on me without the belt, although belts in general don't work on me.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I stopped by after work and got a fall tweed skirt a few things on sale: classic blend jersey tank (1 bright dahlia and one greyish) another featherknit keyhole tee in black (now 1.5 weeks later it is $24.99 instead of $45 I paid for the cream one that I've only worn once) and the tissue pinktuck tee in black.

My Personal Stylist said the HQ called them and will not do the save and share 20% off with friends (you bring a friend and spend $175 and you get 20% and so does the friend(s). Since she emailed suggesting it she said her manager would let her honor the one we had planned but they were very disappointed since they get shopping parties in there, etc. That seems like a dumb thing to end when last time I spend $400 and my 3 friends spend $300-$500 each.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I saw the No. 2 in the new colour today...it looks very similar to last year's Nightfall Blue colour to me. Quite a bit darker than the Viridian Green and with much more blue, sort of a deep teal. Very pretty, but probably unnecessary if (like me) you own last year's version.

I tried on the No. 2 in Vintage Tweed in the navy. I found it to fit a bit tighter though the hips than the wool No. 2, so I sized up one from my usual pencil skirt size. It is lovely, but the one I tried had an uneven hem...one side was at least an inch higher than the other and the hem was at an angle. That is poor, poor quality control.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Has anyone tried on the Heathered bomber cardigan? I really like the look, but am worried about fit...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Picked up the striped breaker sweater in navy- they honored the online price that was cheaper. Tried on the striped popover blouse and found it to be WAY tight in the sleeves. Yes, my arms aren't as slender as I'd like, but yeesh.

Otherwise, I'm hoping to score some J Crew goodies at the resale shop...which is having a Labor Day sale, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Can anyone comment on the new Kirtley bags? Quality, size, colors? I'd love a real-life review, it's so hard to judge things online anymore.

WFF - Ralph's covered-wagon extravaganza, cracked me up!

    ReplyDelete
  59. This isn't the right thread.... but I had to tell someone! FINALLY!!! Snagged the garden heirloom lace pencil skirt on a popback!!! Yay for me!!!!

  60. holy cow! j crew factory store's selection was incredible at arundel mills outlets. 40% off on most of my purchases. sale runs through wednesday and then new inventory hits on thursday! i went a little crew-sy! silly me had waited up until midnight to see selection on factory store website and was so disappointed... in store selection much prettier colors.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Has anyone ordered Madewell shoes/boots, and would the sizing resemble JCrew fit? (IE) I have one pair of JCrew boots which I sized down from a 7.5 to a 7.

Any advice on whether to size down in Madewell boots welcome :> TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  62. No trip for me this weekend. I was hoping to pick up my newly hemmed flare jeans, but I guess a week isn't enough time. No idea who they use, but 2 weeks seems too long for a hem.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Pathos, I have ordered madewell shoes. I have the sidewalk wedges, in suede. They fit me as my J Crew shoes do. I took a 6.5 in them, and am a 6.5 in j crew heels.

    love madewell!

ps. Saw that the poncho hoodie, the saturday pants, shutterbug dress and the button box sweater are all on markdown in store. The button box sweater is especially cute layered over some sort of collared shirt (short or long sleeved). Runs roomy, so you can probably size down, even with layering.

    Happy weekend all!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think it was a mistake for JC not to offer some % off deal. Even Tory Burch is doing a % off - granted, it's not a fabulous deal, but still, they rarely do % off sales and they have one going on.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Chic Chauffeur, glad you did. I hope you will love it s much as I love mine. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. I won't be visiting a B&M this weekend. But I broke down and ordered the cashmere long sleeve tee in dark orchid. Seems like this fall the fashion wind is blowing in the back to classics direction. And I just really crave for a couple of good cashmere sweaters. The one I got was on sale for $99.99. The description looks quite similar to this season's item but the item number is different. Wonder what the difference is. Hope the quality is good!

  68. Might be off topic but was wondering if JC does an extra percent off after the holiday (monday) and I bought sale items today - would they allow a price adjustment on those sale items purchased today on Tuesday?

    Thanks ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  69. There was nothing but the sound of crickets at my B&M location. Seriously, I was the only shopper in there for about 10 min on a Saturday afternoon in a busy mall! Nothing noteworthy. No sale, same old in the sale section. The one thing I thought about purchasing is cheaper online, even with the flat rate shipping, so I'm glad I passed on it!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I was at the mall and planned to stop in, but the store was closed due to some issue with their AC. Boo! I wanted to check out some of the new arrivals as well as the sale section. I need to order online since they don't carry petites in the store, but I do like to check out the fabric in person.
I am hoping for a percent off full-price items -- that is the only way I will buy things I can't wear for another month or two! I did get a really cute dress at Anthro!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Stopped by the South Park location in Charlotte today...took aapproximately 543 items in the dressing room with me! Lots of cute stuff in the stores right now. Here are some highlights:

Navy/white polka dot silk top: short-sleeve, 100% silk. LOVE this top!!!! Must be in-store only bc it's not online. I seem to remember someone calling it matronly, but I was so happy that it did not appear that way on me. I sized down, so maybe that helped? Looks awesome tucked into a pencil skirt!

Flair skirt: another love! This skirt ended up being pretty flattering on my shape. I tried it on in the camel color in my normal size.

No. 2 pencil skirt: yep, there's a new color put and it's gorgeous. It IS somewhat similar to nightfall blue but different...it's brighter and more of a peacock teal.

Calgary skirt: I know this one is not new but I fell in love with it today. Such a flattering shape and the material is sooo soft!

liquid silk skirt: lovely, lovely. Tried on in bright dahlia color. Seems like it would wrinkle easily; prob. not as noticeable in the navy.

Those are the items that stuck out to me! I took lots and lots of pics that I'll put up tmrw once I get back home.

  72. Please excuse typos above...fat finger syndrome on the iPad :)

Forgot to mention the Blackwatch Schoolboy blazer...this is a gorgeous blazer that I hope to own one day. Beautifully done and well-made...love the elbow patch detail!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Eeek I am commenting very late in this post but hopefully someone can help me out! I really want to buy the Belinda dress but, as it's final sale only, I'm nervous to pull the trigger! Has anyone tried this dress? How's the fit? Is it extremely body-con?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Forgot to add, the cotton-silk faille version.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Can not wait to see pictures, does anyone know if the new pencil skirt color is going to be in store only? Just wondering if I should try to track it down now

    ReplyDelete
  76. I popped in yesterday, and like a dolt, forgot my camera. Loved the blackwatch plaid blazer! Loved the new teal double-serge pencil (which my PS said was going to be retail-only), but I have the nightfall blue, so can't justify. Actually really liked the Blythe shirtdress, but it's not practical for me (maybe in navy?). I tried on Flair skirt again and adore it. would love for them to add a bright color! (I sized up one size from my regular pencil skirt.) Managed to just make returns and not buy anything! (They did have one size 4 paisley pencil for $90 left if anyone's looking.)

  78. Anyone been to the new Toronto store recently? I am finally getting there (its a 3.5 hour drive from me) this coming week and I wondered how the stock was. Is it pretty cleaned out, are there any sale items, any of the newer stock that was posted online this week?

I have been ordering online for the last 6 years and this is the first time I will actually get inside a J. Crew store - can you tell I am a little excited...

    Have a great long-weekend everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Went to my B&M yesterday to make a couple of returns (blue hacking jacket and hthr acorn #2). I tried on a few things, but everything was very uninspiring. I am waiting to try on one of the mustard coats (Townhouse trench, Metro, or Symphony). There haven't been many reviews of these jackets and I am so tempted to order them just to try on. The B$M's won't be receiving them until October and I don't think I can wait that long. Has anyone seen this color somewhere else in a long wool coat?

    ReplyDelete
  80. dawn,

Same here. No one but one other person in my store. I did not see a single thing I wanted to try on or the price was either too high for me and/or the quality. I did try there first but --nada.

I did buy from Talbots and placed a Boden order. Very excited to get it!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Monika -- I was just at the Toronto store today and they seemed to have a good amount of stock from what I could see. Have fun!

I tried on the Flair skirt in Cool Pine and was pleasantly surprised. I expected it to be unflattering on me but I really quite liked it as an alternative shape to my (many) pencil skirts.. We'll see how I do styling it with items I have in my closet.

Also tried the Betsy sweater and love it a lot, but not enough to pay $98 CAN. There's a great orange colour that I think is different than the online Decadent Red colour. I'll wait till I'm in the states, or if Toronto EVER has a sale (so far, everything is still regular price despite the same items being on sale online and in the US stores. How typically Canadian).

I asked my online PS about the double cloth mustard color and she dug up swatches from last years Winnie Jacket and stadium Cloth peacoat. She said the Winnie was way brighter and the new color was very similar to the golden sunflower of the peacoat, just a slightly darker undertone. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Clicquot:
Did you happen to notice if the Toronto store had the double cloth townhouse trench?
I have been holding off on my purchase until an overnight trip to T. O next week.
Happy to hear the stock levels are good.... I was worried about that! :)

  84. I have some pics up of new arrivals (lots of skirts) on my blog. More to come later!

  86. Received my Origami dress in morning fog today and gosh it is beautiful! Fits small imho but such a flattering dress! Only thing, not sure if the color works on me, contemplating changing for another except its backordered till mid nov in my size! what to do, what to do . . . .

    ReplyDelete
  87. TJ -- I don't recall whether I've seen the trench you're looking for. I know they did have one of the new trench styles but I didn't look too closely at it.

If you're making a special trip from out of town, I suggest contacting one of the personal shoppers ahead of time to get them to check stock and put some sizes aside for you. JC is such a big novelty in Toronto that I find stock moves really fast. On Thursday, I asked a PS to put the Flair skirt on hold for me -- that was the day they received the new stock -- and by the time I went in today (Sunday), they only had one left besides mine. Ditto for the pencil skirts in Vibrant Flame last week, they went in a flash.

Here's one of the PS names I have -- Alexandra.Liuni@jcrew.com.

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  88. TJ - They definitely don't have the Townhouse Trench. I'm really interested in that one as well and I asked my PS at the Toronto store about it and she asked the store manager who said he didn't think they would be getting it in, but couldn't say for sure. If you go into the store they can order one for you and have it shipped to your house for free.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Clicquot and Caitlyn:
Thanks so much for the info!
I have a great online PS but I did wonder about making contact with an in store PS at yorkdale. I live in another province ( with horrible shopping lol ) and often have stores at yorkdale ship to me. If I could pay in Canadian dollars it would be a benefit.

Not to mention the fact that it would probably be quicker.
I placed an order on august 16 ( before the website update ) and still haven't received it. :(

My PS has always been really good about waiving
shipping and she sent an order Express for me this week. It arrived quicker ...,,but I had duties and taxes added at the door!!!

If they would ship at no charge it would also presumably mean I could return things at the Toronto Store?
That would be cheaper and quicker than mailing to the US.

    ReplyDelete
  90. TJ, I know that the Yorkdale store will NOT process returns on items purchased in US stores or thru the US online site.

Sorry.... I should have been more specific.
I knew that they wouldn't process returns from online or the US store but if I had them ship things to me out of province from store inventory ( or order in store if it us something they didn't carry, as Caitlyn said ) then hopefully any returns necessary could also be handled through the Yorkdale store?

I have always ordered Gymboree, Crate and Barrell, Coach and others by phoning the store at yorkdale and having them ship to me. It saves $$$ when compared to ordering online.
It is important to have a dependable person for point of contact though. Thanks for the email address :)
