What are your thoughts on Jenna Lyon's outfit at the Awards? How would you style those pieces together?
ITA agree with your comments re: her styling. I absolutely LOVE that skirt and it is so flattering but the top and shoes kind of ruin it.
ReplyDeleteHer top looks very medical to me. I don't like it at all and I wonder why she chose it. I also think that the skirt and shoes (and top) don't go well together. I like mismatched outfits but this seems to be going a bit too far.
ReplyDeleteThe skirt is very pretty in that bright green and the top is OK, kind of summery. But there is something not quite right with the shoes, the thick black strap breaks up the line IMO. Each time I see this photo my eye is drawn to the shoes. Maybe that is the intent though, wouldn't be the first time first time a woman wanted to showcase her shoes.
ReplyDeleteI see Iris Apfel in the background. Can't miss her with her signature frames and bright yellow tunic. She has been known to wear a similar bright green, as seen here. Hmm, Jenna with her large frames and now this green color - emulating Iris? JK of course, Jenna has her own style.
If you cannot say anything nice, don't say anything at all. So I better not say anything...if I got started I don't think my fingers could stop....typing that is....

ReplyDeletei love the skirt (the color and length. i'm not nuts for sequins, but i'll make an exception here). would have preferred if the shirt were tighter around her waist/torso, and had blousy/dolman sleeves, instead of just being shapeless.

ReplyDeletei think the shoes are pretty, but she should have gone with a sleeker, more minimalistic pair so as to not distract attention from the neon skirt. and yeah, the boxy top and hairstyle look too casual to me.
ReplyDeleteJenna just looks awkward and uncomfortable in this shot. Don't really care for the outfit on her. At least it is not "taken from the boys."

ReplyDeleteI think she looks chic and while I wouldn't wear that top it is very "now". Those shoes are amazing in person--Isabel Marant--wonderful textures. Love her mix of the bright green, red accents and the raffia shoes.

I hated at first, but the more I look at this picture, the more I like it. If she could hold her back straight, the shirt would look better...

ReplyDeleteMY sister seriously has a shirt like that from the 80's sitting at my mother's house. Very retro. (And not flattering at all!) Guess I couldn't keep my fingers from typing after all!
ReplyDeleteI just realized, Jenna is wearing a below-the-knee skirt and yet 99% of the skirts from J Crew are well above the knee. What's up with that??

ReplyDeleteSkirt's wonderful. Not so much with the blouse, I would have done a more tailored blouse with it.

oh MY. that is not a flattering look for her. i applaud fashion risks, but color me shallow -- i like things to look pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteshe has hot legs and could pull off a kelly green sequined mini! snip that skirt and change up the sleeves on that blouse and it could be a hot look.
When I look at the entire series of pictures, which is very interesting, I actually like Jenna's outfit the most. It's fashion forward without being costume-y. It's colorful so appropriate for late Spring. The colors work for daytime and the sparkle works for evening. It doesn't look slutty or prom queen or so last decade like many of the other fashions. I like Kirsten Dunst's outfit a lot too, and Zuzanna Bijoch's dress. Sofia Coppola always looks so perfect. And I have to give a shout out to Grace Coddington who rocks utilitarian chic. :)
ReplyDeleteOn the down side, Marcia Cross looks like she's ready for her closeup in a 70's porno, Philip Lim's plus one looks like a car mechanic from the year 2050, and Chloe Sevigny looks downright hideous in her own design channeling a dominatrix doily, if such a thing exists.
Looks like Jenna's typical "Man-repeller" fashion statement.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I think the "man-repeller" comment, though probably meant to be funny, is misogynist. Should women dress to attract men? Married women? And exactly how far must she go? A body-skimming skirt, beautiful shoes, and a great pair of legs isn't far enough? Should she wear a see-through top and a push-up bra?
