JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I love the schoolboy blazers but can only afford to buy one of these three that i like: chambray, striped, and canvas (khaki color). I need your input on which one would be most versatile. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

  2. I have a few pencil skirts from the factory store that don't have any lining in them. I love to wear them, but the static cling is just terrible! I've tried the static guard spray, which hasn't helped and I've tried a slip (but it might be too short). Anyone else have this problem and found a solution? I would love your tips! I know it's not really a "style" question, but what can ya do?

@nani: I would say the canvas would probably be the most neutral. But I do love the striped!

  3. Hi nani, I vote for the canvas as well. The chambray is very cute, but they change from year-to-year, last year's was a much lighter chambray. Plus, other retailers have chambray jackets at lower price points. The canvas one would go with almost anything. I'd contact CS for measurements before you order - I had to size up in the canvas one compared with my other schoolboy blazers, but not with the chambray. Consistency, JC!

  5. nani: I really like all three of them, but if I were choosing one, I would personally go with the Canvas schoolboy. I agree with teeny84 and silver_lining that the khaki color is a great neutral to wear with just about anything and everything.

  6. Also, just ordered the double serge pencil skirt in ochre. Any suggestions for tops to wear with it? It's such a nice color, but I'm drawing a blank on what might match aside from white.
    Thanks ladies!

  7. teeny -- I use the ochre skirt practically as a neutral. It goes with soooo many things. Check out the sets on polyvore -- tons of ideas!

  8. teeny, ITA with shopwithm - I'm actually wearing it today with a kelly green sweater jacket and white tee. I love the ochre with green, navy, white, and red.

  9. To add to the ochre discussion, Pv has opened my eyes to the possibities of ochre with bright or pale/neutral-y pink and dark purple (like aubergine).

And I have to agree on the canvas schoolboy. Just try it on first :)

  10. I agree with mommydearest on pale pinks with ochre. Take a look at the Odeon oxfords/sandals color combo, the beige has a pinkish tone and looks great with the gold color of the mossy oak which is not too different from ochre. Also, J Crew styled the ochre skirt with dark grey for fall, I think ochre would also look great with light grey for spring.

  11. I just posted this on another thread, but I thought I'd ask here just to make sure I get an answer :)

Hi! late question, but can anyone discuss coat sizing with me?

I'm thinking of buying a stadium cloth boulevard coat in size 4.

I only have one jcrew coat, and it's the thinsulate Lady Day from 2008 in a size 4 -- fits me perfectly. *But* i've heard that the lady day runs small, and I'm usually a size 2 in j crew blazers.

Cam anyone who has this coat weigh in? If i buy it i can't return it, so I want to make fairly sure it will work.

  13. I actually own the Chambray blazer and LOVE it. Wearing it today with black minnie pants and the favorite stripe tank (red/white stripe). Wore it last week with khakis and a white v-neck. Have also worn it with white pants and a hot pink tank. It's super versatile IMO. I sized down one size.

  14. I've given the static problem some thought, and I do believe that most of the static that plagues us comes from flooring. So a possible solution would affect the shoes.

I'm guessing that most of us don't want to wear anti-static shoe covers, so I'm wondering if there aren't some pads you can adhere to the bottoms of your shoes that would not only mitigate static but provide extra grip too. I'm going to look around....

  15. @tamara: that's really interesting! I never thought shoes would have anything to do with it, but you're right, it makes sense!
