Will you be checking out the sale at Madewell? Are there any items you are interested in getting? If so, please share. :)
Just ordered the flea market floral dress and a few other pieces. So glad I waited on a code for the dress though! If you make an online purchase don't forget to use Ebates! I almost forgot that Madewell is on there (only 1% but still!)
ReplyDeleteI bit on a couple of pieces - MW has some cute things, and I admit, I'm very impressed that they reverted away from Final Sale so quickly given the negative feedback on it. If only some other companies would follow suit (*cough*)...
ReplyDeleteI received the pencil-stripe tunic dress (40554) yesterday and found it to not look as much like the picture as I'd hope. The item picture shows a kind of boatneck collar, lower cut back, and half-sleeves. I got an item in the same fabric (I think) with a creweck and short sleeves. How odd! I'm going to contact MW and see what's up - if this is supposedly the same item I'm going to see if they'll waive my return shipping.
silver_lining, I also received the pencil-stripe tunic dress a while ago and noticed the neckline and sleeves were not quite the same as shown online but it still worked for me. I really like it, very light and airy casual dress.
ReplyDeleteI took advantage of this excellent promo to pick up a couple of dresses and sweaters. I've been happy with everything Madewell thus far and I'm looking forward to getting my order.
Thanks xoxo! It was just different enough from what I was expecting to think maybe I was going crazy. Ha!
ReplyDeleteWhat did you pick up from MW? I think you have great taste in clothes.
I ordered the silk film school blazer. I've had my eye on it for a while and I snagged it with this promotion. (I had to add a pair of socks for the free shipping because the discount took it down to $97).
ReplyDeleteI did pick up the short sleeved sweatshirt pullover and some dramatic drape tanks in an array of sizes since I am not sure if MW runs large like JC or what.
ReplyDeleteAm eying a blazer...how is the quality at MW?
I love love love the windward jacket but it doesn't have my size anymore
ReplyDelete:(. I'm going to check out the store this afternoon and see what they have first :)
silver_lining, thank you, I would love to hear what you purchased as I admire your taste in clothes as well. Like you I am pleased Madewell does not have Final Sale so I felt comfortable ordering a few items that I can return if need be. I picked up the following items:
ReplyDeleteChatelaine dress in dutch lace
Swingy silk shirtdress in dark olive
Hammered silk slipdress in gemstone
Dinner Party cardigan in purple charm
Memento cardigan in Polynesian blue
Shrunken boy sweater in ruby.
Sizes are going fast, glad I ordered as soon as I saw the email early this morning.
i was wondering if anyone has the voyager suede duffle bag? how is the material and is it way too big to use as a shopper? thanks!
ReplyDeletexoxo-how did you order sizes? JCrew seems to run so big and I always size down in dresses. IE I buy size 0 in dresses from JCrew, and wonder should I buy a 0 in MW too?
ReplyDelete@mochi: A Bigger Closet has blogged about MW's handbag, think it's the one you're asking about.
ReplyDeletehttp://abiggercloset.blogspot.com/
I find MW's sizing to be pretty similar to JC's. Use their size charts and phone SA if you're not sure.
I'm loving my Derby jacket. It was online a few days ago but it's gone now. I see they've "restocked" the shirts section, there were only 3 items this morning and a few minutes ago they're back up to 20+ pieces.
I don't suppose any one has or has seen the shimmer coaster pants IRL? They look cute, but I'm wondering exactly how sparkly they are.
ReplyDeleteI really like the paperbag trousers too, but they're already gone in my size. Crossing fingers for restocks before the promo's over. There's some cute things I really like but not enough in my size to meet the FS min. And since I don't live anywhere near a store so would have to pay return shipping if I needed to return, I really don't want to order w/o free shipping. I've been wanting to try Madewell for so long, I'm hoping this promo will work out for me! :)
pathos, I second what Closet Criss said, I order the same size as my J.Crew size unless the tops or dresses are really fitted and then I SU to accommodate my bustiness. When it comes to jeans and cords I get measurements because like J.Crew the fit of different styles can really vary.
ReplyDelete^ Sorry, that should be Closet Crisis. Just can't type today.
ReplyDeleteHa! My verification word is "unable". :P
xoxo and Closet Crisis
ReplyDeletethank you! I would love to see pictures of some Madewell items too if anyone has a blog going :-D
I pounced on the painted petals dress - it's a gorgeous fabric and I fell in love when I saw it in the store. I'm not a fan on the black silk back part, but I plan to wear a cardigan over it at work.
ReplyDeleteThis is not meant to be a warning, but for the MW items I've ordered without seeing, I've returned all of them except for one (a scarf). Even with the scarf (whose print was different than pictured), what I received was just a tad bit different than what is shown-- not in a negative way, they've all been good quality. It's also in combination with fit-- for the first "drapey" cardigan I'd ordered with them, I should've known, my regular size (L) had so much fabric in the back, like a parachute. Anyway, besides words like slouchy, drapey, loose, etc. - I order my usual J. Crew size, and know that prints may be a bit different when they arrive.
@xoxo, think I'm Closet O'Crisis today, being St. Paddy's Day and all ;)
ReplyDelete@Pathos: I've blogged about my Madewell try-on's, and I know others have as well (Tippy, A Bigger Closet, etc). Try googling, plus use the Search feature on this blog's home page, you'll probably come across a few reviews.
In general I really like the quality of their merchandise (def. not cheap-throw-away fashions) good store and phone CS help, fast shipping.
I have liked almost everything I have ever ordered from Madewell (off the top of my head~one pair of pants, one sweater, one dress, three blouses, a scarf, a dress and a skirt). I think its all high-quality and very cute. It fits well and looks different from a lot of the stuff I see out there.
ReplyDeleteDue to a few unfortunate Final Sale purchases from J. Crew I am spending most of my shopping money at Madewell. I find their items higher quality and more interesting. They seem to have a more edgey, rock and roll feel. i made two purchases this morning, including the flea market dress, can't wait!

ReplyDeletepathos: I've blogged quite a bit about Madewell in the past several months. I've ordered numerous times from them and have found the quality to be much better than J.Crew so far. I actually like more at Madewell than I do at J.Crew right now.
ReplyDeleteHere's one of my Madewell posts that has a RL pic of one of the shirts I've purchased from them: Click here.
Just wanted to add that I also find the sizing to be comparable to J.Crew. I have been ordering my *J.Crew size* and so far that has worked with each order I've placed.

ReplyDeleteFinal Sale in the store does not really bother me, because theoretically, if you are in the store, you can try on and decide if the item fits well and is flattering. Sure, there are times when I get something home and in the comfort of my home decide its not right, but its different from ordering an item that has never been tried on. I know many, many women have differently shaped bodies and certain clothes hit, pull or fit weird in certain spots. IMO, ordering final sale, unless its a tee shirt of a pair of shoes or something is never going to work for me.
Its helpful to know that in-store is not final sale, but its not a deal breaker for me like a website purchase is.
(I swear, despite me singing their praises, I don't work for Madewell - I just happen to really like the store and am pleased with their products)

I agree with FFM, I actually like Madewell more than J. Crew and have felt this way for the past year or so. I have a bunch of posts on my blog, just scroll down and click on Madewell under Labels (left hand side). If anyone has any specific questions about items that are currently on sale, feel free to ask me at trestippy(at)gmail.com. I'm a little embarassed to say that I own nearly ever sweater and dress thats been on sale as of late but I'm more than happy to share reviews, etc.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend, everyone!
Tippy, or anyone else - Have you seen/tried on the Telegraph trousers? The Madewell pictures make them seem structured, but they were sold on Shopbop, too, and the picture there looks like glorified sweatpants. I'm trying to build up business/business-casual bottoms.
ReplyDeleteAgreeing with the general sentiment that Madewell is catching up to my J. Crew go-to instinct. But, I've starte a new job, and may have to curb MW buys due to the more relaxed vibe of their designs. I can probably get away with a few dresses under a cardigan.
Audrey, I actually purchased the telegraph trousers from Shopbop before they became available on the MW site. They are, in my opinion much like what you said--glorified sweatpants. They were very unstructured and ran large. I'm an XS/0/26 at J. Crew and even though I got these pants in an XS they looked very frumpy on. I initially got them to wear to work but the material and unstructured fit just wouldn't make my outfit look appropriate enough for work. Hope this helps!

ReplyDelete@Tippy - Thanks! You saved me a trip for returns to the MW store.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday ladies! I have a Madewell post up today on my blog which includes a guest review by Desert Flower. Click here. :)
