Also from the catalog I ordered the crystal rail link necklace in both colors and love the toffee! Great deco-esque touch on a smaller scale than the librettos and colettos of desings past.
Silk pocket tank (39370) - I can definitively say to size down in this. I've been wearing a 4 in JC camis lately and was swimming in the 2 in this. It is very low cut, but also more A-line than other tanks and did not bunch up around the waist. I don't think that I could go down to 0 because then the underarms would be too tight. It's a tricky fit if you're going to wear it alone, I think.
ReplyDeleteThe "wave crest" color is much more of a minty green than the light blue-green I saw on the site. I think that this will be $19.99 or so at some point. It's definitely not worth the $49.50 promo price, much less the $68 full price.

ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned yesterday in the Matinee Trench post, I am really loving the Rainy Day Utility Jacket.
ReplyDeleteI cinched up the waist ties and it has cornformed nicely to my shape so it has lost the boxy look and is a bit more nipped and peplum. It's doesn't strain across my shoulders or bust, which makes it comfortable to wear while driving. The sherpa lining gives it extra warmth and the sleeves and hood are lined in nylon so it's not a total parka. The hood and pockets are very functional. The nylon-cotton twill is definitely water resistant and has a very slight sheen. I'm 5'10" and it is on the shorter side but it is not cropped and the sleeves are a good length.
If you want a casual rain jacket with a hood and you live where rainy days can be cool, this is a great option.

ReplyDeleteA review of sorts, and promise to keep my rant to a bare minimum: I have 2 twinsets of the Featherweight cashmere from last Fall/Winter. Aside from the well-known pilling issue, I've really enjoyed the lovely colours.
ReplyDeleteI put on the Chartreuse set this morning, and noticed that the side seam of the shell has started to pull apart at the bottom. I have to say that I am NOT rough on my clothes, and have not worn this set incessantly in the last year (no more than a total of dozen wears?) Very disappointed.
Has anyone been able to compare this year's featherweight cashmere to last year's? Would love to hear what you ladies have to say...TIA.

ReplyDeleteShort Icon Trench -- I snagged this for a crazy price, and they only had the Warm Taupe in my size. It's definitely pinker than I expected, but not in a bad way. I just need to adjust to it. Very cute, and will last a long time.
Shearling Gloves -- I got the grey, and I have to tell you that they are almost brown. I thought they were brown at first, but nope, grey. So just keep that in mind. They end up working perfectly with my down coat that is a mink-y color, so I'm keeping.
Boutonniere Blazer -- I was a little worried a 2 would be too small, but it fits perfectly. So if you have smallish shoulders/back, and you waver between sizes, you should be ok to size down (although TTS will work too). Very cute in the grey!
My No. 2 Pencil Skirt in citron (from new arrivals) shipped out today, so I'll review that soon on the blog!

ReplyDeleteHeather Nickel Cashmere hoodie XXS - I didn't like the heather nickel last year because it seemed to have a sort of yellowish undertone. This hoodie however is a regular light(ish) heather grey. Feels nice quality and thick and comparable to my 2 shrunken cashmere hoodies from 2-3 years ago that I have worn a lot. Also like the 2 way zip and substantial cord in the hood, finishing details. For people with bigger/more muscular arms for your frame this may be tight in the arms. The overall fit is good, some room but not baggy through the chest (my bust 28"), arms are long enough and fit as opposed to being very baggy like on my other cashmere cardis. This would be smallest fitting XXS item I have gotten so far since that size was introduced. Some of the other tops and cardis fit as big as XS.
Cashmere Femme Cardi XXS. For this the fit is quite different than the XXS hoodie - much looser overall through the body and the sleeves are much looser which I think may be part of the design (they are sort of blousy then come down to the cuffs), but the length is good, not cropped and overall still ok through the chest. Cute style with the buttons on the pockets. Heather orchid color I had already seen it is not a bright purple, pretty muted with the heathered effect. A good color if you wear pinks, purples etc as I think it will work with lots. I got it rather than the brighter lilac color since I didn't have a similar color.
Infinity cardi XS heather carbon. I know many people have reviewed (some have pilling issues etc). I went with XS as there was no grey in XXS. Unlike some other XS merino and other cardis this one is not too baggy in the chest and I like how it hangs even undone. If you like these cardis and are similar size to me a XS may work as well as XXS for this cardi.
I ordered the Salina sandals in toffee and Braidee in black. I'll let you know as soon as I get them.

ReplyDeleteMy big ol' box of FS merchandise arrived yesterday. The cashmere-lined leather gloves are GORGEOUS but are cut quite narrow, IMO -- I'm *really* glad I didn't order the Smalls, because no way would they have fit. I hope I have them for years to come.
I am a little disappointed in the fit of my waffled cashmere cardi. It's shorter/boxier than I expected it to be, I like a long-ish cardi. So that's a bit of a bummer, but I love the color of course (cobblestone) so I'm going to have many make-it-work moments in my near future!
Bronzed leopard perfect shirt ... probably should have ordered a 6 and not an 8. It's just a smidge too big in the shoulders. But I really like the print and the colors in it, though. (Looking forward to checking out Polyvore for styling tips!) Aside from the sweater I just mentioned it, it was one of the only things I can really recall liking from the previous season's stuff.
I got the flannel Silvie dress in the pink color after loving the gray so much ... I can really see myself wearing this year-round. It's so elegant and unfussy. One of those things I know I canm throw on either for work or a special event and look just right -- not overdressed, not underdressed - depending on my accessories.
My woolly ribbed turtleneck joins is light gray and black sisters in permanent cold-weather rotation. ... I can't wait to try on my light berry strapless Taryn dress, I just looooove the color on me -- I light up like a neon sign when I wear it! Too bad it's too fancy for work, hee. :)
Also a few basics / standards for me -- a cord pencil skirt and a pair of shorts.
All in all, I'm happy. Especiall about the prices I paid.
I purchased the silk taffeta Nanine dress in golden khaki to wear for my sister's wedding in August.
ReplyDeleteI usually hate anything taffeta, but the dress is nice- albeit very slim fit. I ordered a size larger than what I typically take in j crew and the dress is very tight around the thighs. I need to lose a few pounds before August if I want to wear this dress.
I *just* tore into my 40% box and was tremendously pleased to find not only what I had ordered, but that the items appear to be new and unworn. Quickly off on the right foot :)
ReplyDeleteLyric dress (36104) TTS. The xs was too short for my 5'6", although the fit was ok. Small (my normal size) was a decent length and hung slightly better. The good news is that the front is NOT as low-cut as the product photo - fit like the model pic which was not too revealing for me. Unfortunately, the elastic waist didn't hit me at the right place so it's a return. But I'd be interested again on sale.
Velvet schoolboy blazer (29928)mostly TTS, slightly tight across my back. Not sure if I'll keep or whether it will end up on the exchange.
Merino strata cardigan (32986) This has received mixed reviews from the JCAs, but I have to say I loved it. Very forgiving in the tummy area without being bulky ;) I would love to get another color with another % off.
Correction: the dress I got was a Juliette, not a Taryn. :)

ReplyDeleteThe blue stripes are gorgeous, the fabric is heavier weight & very soft, the zippers are light gold & noticeable (definitely unnecessary for this style/feel of dress). The size Small is too big, & if I belt it the dress ends at the bottom of my butt cheeks! :P
Extra small fits way better & looks fine on it's own but ends at 2-1/2" under my butt so it's def. not a dress (for me anyway at 5'7").
Waah, this dress confuses me. It's not long enough to be a dress but I think the fabric will cling to the butt if you wear it over white pants. It's so soft & has a beachy vibe but yet has those harsh metal zippers.
Not f/p at all for me. It reminds me more of a cool summer beach cover-up but hey, what do I know. I pooh-poohed the trouper pants & here I am probably less than a week later wearing a pair!
P.S. What a waste - the dress has a 3" hem but you can't let it out because those dam zippers!

ReplyDeleteElaine, on the cord pencil skirt, let me know if you figure out a way to make it work with tights. I have tried all different fabrics, but the corduroy hem that is folded under grabs all fabrics and rides up your legs as you walk. Slip or no slip. I'm also not thrilled that my new cord trouser pants make noise as I walk, as the fabric rubs against itself on the legs. In a quiet office, not a good effect.

ReplyDeleteLyric: Bought size xs in agate. Color is gorgeous, just as I thought. It's not as vibrant as it appeared on my screen, but still very nice. Fit is great. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is NOT too short on me as xs jersey dresses have been lately! The neckline is also not too revealing--agree with mommydearest on that. It would definitely be a summertime dress for me--don't think I'd wear it to work. Jersey fabric is so lovely. Straps wide enough to cover bra straps. A winner in my book.
Maritime: Bought size small in this one to gain length. It is pretty shapeless on me but I'm not sure it looks any better with a belt. Maybe I didn't try it with the right belt? I'll play around with it some more. The fabric is nice and more substantial than I was expecting. Blue stripes are a very pretty blue. I agree that the zippers are overkill. Not sure that they are deal breakers for me, though. Sizing down to a xs would help with shape but it'd be too short then. Agree with IRL that it feels like a beach coverup. Just like the Lyric, it'd be a summertime throw-on dress for sure. It would look cuute with a pair of Toms slip-ons!

CharlotteSometimes, I wear the shiny tights with my corduroy minis and pencils. Not shiny metallic but shiny slippery. The corduroy slides over them quite nicely. The brands that work for me are Wolford, which are pricey and Oroblu, which are European and HTF. You could try checking a dancewear supply store if you have one where you live. I used to buy some tights from such stores until I found Oroblu. Their slippery tights are the best ever. Hue used to make slippery tights too but I can't find them here in Canada.

Given the short length and 3" hem I'll see if she can let it down at bit while she's at it and maybe even tailor the line. Or I might just say forget it and send it back. :^P

I won't bother giving reviews because these are old items like the v-neck Lundi dress, selvedge toothpicks, pyjamas, tissue turtles, etc and basics for DH. Nothing that people would be looking for that hasn't been reviewed at this point.

ReplyDeleteHerringbone schoolboy blazer in charcoal- I just got this in the mail today and I'm disappointed. It is practically black, which would be fine if it was fall or winter but as part of the spring lineup I was hoping it'd be a bit lighter. The other option (driftwood) is just a bad color for me. Online it looks like a bone color but IRL it is more gold and it is just not good on my pale skin. I want something in between. Why no light/medium gray jackets?

I got the zip front ballet flats and they are super cute but seem a bit wide. When I am just standing they buckle out at the sides a bit. Also got the CeCe Leather flats in black and they are super cute as well but run a smidgen small, maybe it is the elastic?

ReplyDeleteThis is kind of absurd, but it was effective...my cord mini was doing the same thing and driving me nuts, so when I was at work I put a strip of packing tape around the inside seam. It was wide enough to cover the whole folded up part, and it completely stopped it from sticking to my tights. It was kind of an emergency fix, but I ended up leaving it there because it worked so well, beyond making an occasional crinkly sound when I shifted in my chair.
Review-wise:
I got the dream zip sweater jacket today in an xs (I previously ordered a small, which is my normal size, but it was huge--like a baggy tunic sweater--so they let me return it). The arms are a tad tight (and I don't have big arms), but I really like the fit. It's roomy, but in a manageable, relaxed sort of way. There's a ribbon that goes around the bottom hem and if you're wearing the sweater zipped and you cinch the ribbon and tie it, it gives it enough shape. It's pretty casual, but I like having a more relaxed sweater in my rotation.
I also took a chance on two boy's wool crewneck sweaters in size 14, and they fit great! They're fairly basic and casual (I don't have to dress up much for my job), but if you accessorize right they are cozy and cute. (And you can't argue with two 100% wool sweaters for $27 shipped!)

This top is very unique and feminine, without the sparkle or the low cut. The Waterfront color is a beautiful soft aqua, that really complements olive tones. Size down.

I don't usually care for washed out colors, but I loved this in Aged Driftwood. I didn't see much shimmer in the jacket. It reminds me of a linen jacket with structure. TTS

I bought a small. Wish it was an extra small. Nice fitting, but a bit too much extra fabric in the armpits on the body side. I'm going to wash & dry and hope for a little shrinkage.

ReplyDeleteGot the silk bloussana tunic in black by calling my PS to get the teacher discount. It fits very slightly larger than the perfect shirts. Beautiful and yummy comfy. Tucks neatly into pants and lies flat under sweaters. I'll wear this one forever, or till it wears out.

ReplyDeleteThat said, in my experience it doesn't stretch much during wear. The waist runs a bit big but the lower pant leg runs tight, even for non-athletic calves such as mine. Black color seems to run a teeny bit tighter than titanium.

ReplyDeleteHey Charlotte, I'm terrible -- I rarely wear tights / hose, even in the winter, lol ... but with this skirt I'll probably have to. I could see where that problem would crop up. I'm intrigued by Kate's suggestion of taping the hem; wondering if there's something less crinkly that would work nearly as well. Like maybe using that iron-on hem tape to attach a strip of satiny fabric around the inside hem....?

ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention, as much as I usually hate the factory store, none of the chambray offerings worked for me at the retail store and I desperately wanted one. The factory store has several that are fabulous and fit so much better than the giant retail one (Selvedge Chambray Shirt- it fit me like a potato sack). I ended up getting the factory one for like $35!!

ReplyDeleteLouise -- I tried the Costine in Cerise in the store in XS (my true Jcrew size), it fit really slim but nice. I wasn't sure at the store if it seemed 'me' but then the image of the subtlely sexy deep v-neck grew on me. At home, I forgot what size I'd tried and ordered it in S and it turned out loose and dumpy so I returned it... and the SA at the store was surprised I tried it in S at all, she said that it was cotton and would probably end up stretching out. BTW, Cerise in the store looked like a nice poppy red but at home it had more of an orange leaning... I didn't like the colour as much in real life.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Costine again: I forgot to say that it is on the thin or average side, like not too thin to be sheer (unless maybe in the light colours) but definitely feels like a sweater you'd wear on its own, as a shirt, or only over a favourite tank or such.

I was eyeballing the cerise based on the photo in the catalog so it is good to know that it is more orange than red (I don't mind since I'm looking for reds, oranges and corals for this spring). I will order the small and see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteA bit ago someone asked about the Maxi-Check perfect shirt, I didn't get around to posting so hope they find this... I got it on the exchange (thank you!!) in pink and wore it yesterday. The fabric isn't 'tissue thin' but then I don't have much experience with J Crew button-up shirts yet... I think it seems kind of like a textured muslin-like fabric, slight slight nubbiness. A good weight that makes it feel all-year-worthy, and I love that the 'base' is ecru rather than just white or cream.

I totally agree with JS about the factory chambray shirt. I got mine there for about the same price, and it fits beautifully. Very comfy and flattering, fitted but still easy to move in. I love it!
ReplyDeleteLauren - the long benny blazer is a fairly old item, but it has been discussed here fairly extensively. You could do a search on it. To sum up - it runs huge. Order down a size or maybe even two. Once you do that, it's a cute, comfy casual blazer. I love mine. It is only partially lined though, if that matters to you.

It has a perfect shirt tag in it, if I remember correctly. If you have a factory store near you, you'll probably get a better deal. Sadly, my factory B&M is MUCH closer than my retail B&M. :) HTH!
Received the Camdens in the Light Ginger and they are really lovely, well-made shoes. They need some scuffing up and a little bit of break-in so they don't look so sparkly new, but I'm very pleased. Very comfy from the start (unlike the Elsbeths which were very stiff and needed a few days of heavy duty wearing before they were comfy). True to size as well and really a versatile shoe for spring/summer/fall (and winter here in SoCal).

ReplyDeleteHi Woodley, I was the one that asked, thank you so much! I've had a hard time with some of their button downs where they are using the sheerest fabric and you can see right through it. I was stunned by how sheer the tan dock striped perfect shirt was and I paid full price. Back it went.
ReplyDeleteReceived the Heather Nickel Ever Peacoat on 40% promo and love it. What a nice color the heather nickel is for spring and it's the perfect weight. I also like that it's slightly shorter for us height challenged.
The Plaster suede Camden Brogues are gorgeous and now they are back to full price? How does that work, $250, to $198. to 40% off $198. back to $250?
Still waiting for more 40% items to arrive but I didn't order any untried items. So my question will be if they ship the right items.
Thanks to all who responded about their corduroy skirts, at least I know I am not crazy. I will have to try the packing tape trick, lol. If it crinkles while wearing it I will just have to purposely cough or something.

ReplyDeleteJRuby18, the Chalet boots do not have a full shearling lining like Uggs, they only have shearling at the cuff that folds down. They have a nubuck/napped leather lining in the rest of the boot so they are not super warm, nor are they waterproof.
ReplyDeleteCheck them out on Ema in this photo and you can see they get easily salt stained/water marked.
IMO these work best as a casual shoe for dry weather. Hope that helps and hope I'm not too late.

ReplyDeleteReceived the wool merino zip mini (#32337) and it's very cute. I like the zipper detail on this and it will be a nice piece to wear with boots and tights. Runs TTS, but they only appear to have L online now. Flattering and the wool is a very pretty color.
ReplyDeleteAlso received the heather elm boutonniere blazer (#32493) and it's very cute. I'm glad I opted for an 8, since I have broad shoulders. It's a bit more cropped than I was expecting, but the color and trim more than make up for it :). I was surprised at how thin the wool was. In some ways it's nice because I can layer a sweater underneath, but man, if I was looking for a nice, thick blazer, this would have really been disappointing. I guess I'll have to work on altering the Lexington I got last year. It's a little too big on me, but the wool is fantastic - nice and thick, with beautiful details.
Both of these were FS with extra 40%, but not so sure if I would pay current prices for them, IMHO.
I have a review of the Levelette dress here, and also the stripe drawstring dress. Hopefully also the poppy waterfloral skirt. All on sale now in store!

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to mention that I'm wearing the Dream Lexi Dress today as a tunic over some jeggings and just love it. It's really comfy and looks chic (if I do say so myself), with very little effort. If you can catch a popback, I recommend it. I wear XS/S in their dresses and the S works for me.

Not exactly what I expected. It's medium weight (could be thicker), Muslin is a creamy color (would have been better in Stark White), and it is oversized. Not worth the FP, but unique enough to keep at the sale price.
Vintage Silk Cami
Lovely, but unfortunately it's TTS. CS rep advised it runs the same as the other Silk Cami (which fits oversized on me) so I sized down. Now, have to stalk this piece again to find it in the correct size.
Saw the No. 2 Pencil skirt in store today and just wanted to mention that it's definitely citron, leaning towards green. Nice and thick!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if anyone has purchased or tried on the Belstaff Roadmaster Jacket. I usually wear a small/medium in cardi's and tees and usually 6 in blazers and small/medium in coats depending on the fit. The site is sold out of the 42 (s) and only has the 44 (m) left. I am trying to find out if the coat runs large or samll and if I can get away with the 44 (I am 5' 8" if that helps).

As an FYI, my sizing according to JCrew is a 4. I'm actually size 2 (in button downs), and usually S or XS in others.
ReplyDeleteSaturday Sweater (XS, Yellow) - Despite going for the extra small it is still huge, shapeless and completely sheer. And because the crew neckline is outlined from the sheerness, a cami underneath just looks funny. Sad. Maybe not a problem with the darker colours? A return.
Maritime Dress (XS) - Like other bloggers, I'm finding this one a little shapeless. I've got a great brown rope-ish belt from Anthro that I'll make work with this. I'm so nautically inclined I can't return it. I'm 5'5 and the length (even when belted) isn't a huge issue. When belted it's short, but not indecent.
Matinee Trench (2, Navy) - After a disappointing Rainy Day Utility Jacket fiasco, I fell in love with this Trench. In person it doesn't disappoint. The two fits perfectly (again, though, by J Crew sizing I'm a "4"). Tall girls beware: the sleeves are JUST right on me (Again, 5'5.) Any taller than me and I'd be worried about sleeve length. Only other confusing bit is the belt. It's ridiculously long, so you can either tie it or wrap it around yourself twice and tuck it in. Confusing, but the hood, slight flare at the hip and great fit is a definite keeper.
I received the Elena Shift dress yesterday from FS and gosh it is so beautiful! I got my normal size 0- it fits great maybe slightly big. I might end up taking it into the tailor to get it taken in slightly around the waist but otherwise it is perfect. I can see how this might be short on taller gals- I am 5'3" and i felt like it is a tad short- but maybe that is just me? The lace and detailing is incredible! One slight annoyance- and I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to be or not- but the slip (which is built in) lays slightly below the scalloping part so I might want to hem that slightly? Anywho if you have been eyeing this one I found it to be TTS and I am very happy with this purchase!
ReplyDeleteI just received the jCREW Aime maxi dress which claims it "falls to the floor" and it is 47" top to bottom, which falls about a foot short of the floor!! I'm 5'6 and this dress looks ridiculous! So upset!
