Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER & FALL sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. New code just appeared on the site. 25% off orders of $150 or more, before shipping and taxes. Use FALLSALE. Sadly, no free shipping.

  2. What a bummer!! I was so excited until I saw there was no free shipping. As we know their shipping costs are so high it ruins any savings. They just lost my order.

  3. Wow, that is a better deal than the cardholder sale. They must have felt some pressure from the AT and ATL offers. But, I don't have $150 in my cart right now. Happy shopping to everyone else!

  5. Seriously, why doesn't JC get it? We demand free ship in this economy.

I went to B&M this weekend to make some returns/exchanges. The sale section was pretty picked over and languished of sad looking tissue thin tees and falling apart tanks. I mean I took two to the dressing room to try and the jewel beads from both of them wear falling apart. Dream draped v-sweaters were $29.99 and no one was even looking through the stacks of them. Some Infinity cardigans were marked down to $59.99 but a lot of them were shop worn (i.e. merino wool this year for some reason is piling much faster). Traversa cardigans were still $49.99 (I think). Sequin skirts were still $49.99 but they were all stuck together so no one bothered to try them. Seriously what is JC thinking?! Oh, also the sequin striped tanks from early fall rollout were $59.99.
As I looked at some of the newly arrived sweaters I began to get really sad that we may not be seeing quality items from JC anymore... I mean most of them felt cheap like acrylic sweaters you would find at some cheap store and you can tell by the fabric content. But the prices were all over $100. I didn't even want to try them on.

I bought a pair of ballet flats, scarf and a sequin belt that was $10.

    I'm sorry for my rant.

  6. It's true, no free ship no order. I don't even necessarily demand free shipping, but *reasonable* shipping would be a start. Then if I have to return something due to their inconsistent sizing, I am not penalized by paying for shipping something that doesn't fit.

  7. No. No visit. I was at Loft on Friday.

  8. No shopping, stayed home for trick-or-treaters:

After all the little mermaids and princesses had gone home,
I went to turn the lights off when I heard a spectral moan
The JC catalog models had gone out to trick or treat
Pigeon-toed and knock-kneed, they were seeking things to eat.

Stumbling in their platform heels, the models came a-hobbling
Tripping over droopy hems, scarier than any goblin
"Trick or treat!" they cried, "We're starving!
No more juice or celery sticks!
Give us pot roast," they moaned feebly.
"Give us chocolate, give us Twix!
Ere the military pixies hunt us,
Ere the lambies herd us home,
    Give us creamy mashed potatoes,
Give us milkshakes topped with foam!"

Suddenly the night was bright with sequins' deadly glare
As the tempting Countess Knockoff twirled a rhinestone-studded snare,
    And all the tiny phantoms
    Melted into midnight air.

Only a trace of beads and sequins,
Only a trace of nylon thread
Was on the driveway in the morning,
Dia de los Muertes, Day of the Dead.

  9. Hi jcrewphd - I wonder the same thing, if we'll ever see decent quality (across the board) from JC again. There seem to still be some winners here and there, but I'm getting more dismayed to hear about the state of JCA's items after a couple of wears. Especially kate's pilling stadium cloth coat! If every company out there is going to take shortcuts *and* put out identical merchandise, I can't imagine they'll all stay afloat in the long term.

  10. Does anyone have the alpaca long cardigan http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/sweaters/jackets/PRDOVR~30104/30104.jsp

I ordered it yesterday in the brown - heather umber and I'm curious if anyone has had issues with it?!

I purchased another pair of sale ballet flats and the sequin tank in the olive colorn(love!)

  12. WFF: You're so talented! It couldn't have been said better. ;-)

  13. Silver_lining: yeah, I still love JC but I'm going to have to avoid most of the sweaters, sequins, raw edges, chiffon trim, and most of the trendy pieces. I'm sticking to pencil skirts, suiting, and some other items. And I do hope people realize that less is more if you have quality items. I'd rather wear something for few years down the line than to pick up something cheap for one season. That's just me though...

  14. I stopped in on Saturday night, and nothing really frosted my cookies.

The sale section was full of the same stuff that's been there for the last month -- I tried on the Dream draped sweater just for fun and it looked totally ridiculous on me.

The Alexie sweaters are cute, but the style is so similar to one Gap had last year (and that I got for like $9.99 each) that I can't bring myself to even try them on.

  15. WFF - LOL!!

I did go to my B&M this weekend. Other than some really pretty scarves, nothing tempted me. Now, even though I'm down right now on J. Crew's clothes, I do have to give a shout out to the sales help. They were friendly and available, yet didn't follow me around trying to be my bestest friend in the whole wide world. They weren't annoying, unlike some other sales associates (I'm looking right at you Kate Spade of Nashville ladies. Back. Off.)

  16. jcrewphd, it's definitely not just you. I've been sticking to J.Crew's classic pieces for the last few seasons now too. I am building my professional wardrobe so I prefer to buy fewer quality classics that will last, even if each piece is significantly more expensive. Unfortunately, as we've seen with the detail quality decline in the perfect pencil skirts from year to year, the Jackie sweaters that look like rags after a few wears and the perfect shirts that are embarassingly sheer, I'm afraid their classic pieces are also going downhill. Silver_lining mentioned the pilling stadium cloth, we've also recently read about the thinness of the wool fabric used for blazers and coats, pilling merino wool, synthetic content in fabrics increasing to majority component status, shoes and bags that come apart, etc.

Living in Canada it's impossible to see quality IRL and to try on to check the radically inconsistent sizing. Yes, I'm placing an expensive order with the 25% off promo but every item has received favorable reviews from JCAs with the exception of one item that no one has reviewed yet. I would be extremely hesitant to order from J.Crew without the helpful JCA community. Thank goodness for this blog.

  17. Benny blazer is $39.97 plus 20% off at the outlets. It's the retail version.

  18. Em: did they have all the colors from the retail? I'm considering the dark gray one. Also, I read that it's been running big but I've been finding that about most of the blazers this season. My Bella is a 4 but I've been fitting into sz 2 for Thandie and Donegal tweed school boy. Thanks!

  19. Pilling is right, I wore the merino wool moto cardigan on Saturday for a few hours, and it was pilling under my dominant arm; apparently carrying a ridiculously soft leather purse there was too much for it. I need the equivalent of chaps for under my arm with J crew clothes.
