J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. crew cuts Boys' lambswool crayons Fair Isle vest
    $48.00 item 29701
I love this! I am usually a size S or 4 in JC tops and the size 12 is perfect. A fun spark for my grey/charcoal-dominated blazer and jacket collection. I am tall but it is only slightly “shrunken” in fit. Will wear with white shirt and bright red cord jeans... a great price too.

    Heathered raglan tee
    $55.00 item 32362
a great season crossover item. It is meant to be roomy but my usual size S is more than ample. It has a nice drape so while sweatshirt-y can also feel a bit dressed up. Very much like an Alexander Wang wool-blend tee I have but I am reaching for this one more.

They have been reviewed a LOT but I am chiming in that I am LIVING in my waverly chinos. I just ordered yet another pair. I have tired of seeing myself coming and going in skinny denim and these really do go from brogues to heels due to the narrow cut but still roomy feel. I like my “scouts” for summer but these feel newer now.

  2. I know many JCAs are tired of ruffles, but for those of you who aren't, the Ariana cardigan (31080)is really lovely. Runs TTS to slightly big - I think the thin knit might stretch out. Thin also means sheer. I was in the store a few weeks ago and all 3 SAs had it on, but styled differently. I didn't even notice it was the same sweater.

  3. A bit OT, but I ordered three sale items from the extra 30% off about a week ago and yesterday I get two emails saying "We wished we had enough..." telling me the two of the items were cancelled! Dream open shawl-collar cardigan, XS and Wool flannel Marion jacket / SIZE 0 in Heather Gray. Anybody had similar cancellations from their order? I'm so upset! Why would it take them one full week to figure out if they had enough?!?! Ugh!!

  4. From the last 30% final sale promo-

Houndstooth bomber - I really like this jacket. I went down one size and it hits at right at my hip (5'1 w/ short torso). I personally like elastic sleeves b/c usually sleeves are too long for me. The band is elastic also with gives it a sort of bubble bomber look. Sturdy zipper and snaps on the top and bottom. However, it is not lined at all and does feel a little itchy on bare skin. Don't regret getting this on final sale.

Waverly chino - really like this. Usually I don't like wearing chinos because I feel a little dowdy in them and feel like they make me look bigger than I am. Also they tend to be really loose and big. These are slim and are a nice alternative to skinny jeans/leggings. It goes down to a nice slim leg (but not skinny) and would work well with flats or heels. I got it on promo (not final sale) in the sycamore color (greenish) I don't see online anymore.

Tees - beaded stamp tee and brush stroke tee that came out to be a little over $10 each. They are good quality and pretty. For the price I like them. They also come with extra beads. They both feel studier and are not paper thin. However, I think J Crew tees are just too long for me so they don't look fitted enough (however a smaller size and I can't fit the bust). I wish they offered petite tee sizes like BR or ATLoft.

  5. I got my Sunnie pencil skirt in the yellow/online version. (love it!) It has a little retro vibe that I love. Can anyone review/post picture of the instore only blue version? TIA!

  6. newyork0311: I received the same "we wish we had enough" email for a CC item for my daughter. It took them over a week to figure this out. I was going to call earlier to find out the status but I just let it go...grrh.

  7. i just received a few items:

tuxedo flannel shirt in coal.it is very soft,a little oversized, good to wear with leggings.

rimini sweater in black.it fits TTS,i like it a lot.

infinity cardigan in bronzed twig.it is TTS,very long, very soft and nice quality.

    tasca sweater in black(popback).
very nice sweater,a little thin.snags easily.i realy like the length, not too short and not too long.fits TTS.

  8. Ina, the new drapey sequin top in the moss color looks AWESOME with the infitinty cardigan in twig! Just got it for myself!!!! I think the sequiny tank is priced great and will be gone quickly!

  9. I really liked the (currently) in-store only stadium cloth boulevard trench (19648, same as last year) in sandstone. No epaulets or back yoke, decent length belt, plenty thick enough, flattering cut. Not a fan of the $325 price tag (considering it was $298 last year), or the fact that it was put out on the floor after the 20% off ended! Oh well - I'll keep an eye on it... considering it's going to be in the 70s in upstate NY today I don't really have much use for a new winter coat! ;)

  10. mack, I have pics of the in-store version and willl post in the afternoon on my blog. You can also email me at crazyaboutjcrew@gmail.com and will be happy to send.

I have a post with pics of some of the new sweaters up on my blog for those who want to take advantage of the current promo.

  11. *Trouper Pant (I think that's what they're called!)
LOVE this pant! Looked like navy and dark green available. I had to size down on this due to the waist being bigger. The leg is ultra-skinny and ultra-stretchy. Already wore my green ones a couple of times! They don't stretch out and get baggy in the bum area. Just a wonderful pant! I'll put IRL pics on my blog today or tomorrow. I've also reviewed the drapey sequin tank, tweed mini, marled sweater, etc... in a recent post.

  12. I posted this over the weekend, but here it is again.
I got the in store version of the Sunnie skirt. It fits tts. It is shorter that the wool pencil skirts, but I love that. There are many pretty colors in it to draw from. I believe Audribella has pics and a review on her blog.

  13. @the chic chauffeur
    thanks for the tip!

  14. Sorry if this has been reviewed in a different post...

has anyone tried on the Merino Dore Cardigan? It appears longer and slouchier than than classic/jackie silohoutte, but I was wondering if that was just the product styling and if its TTS and more "fitted" IRL.

    TIA!

  15. Does anyone know why I cannot find the Drapey Sequin tank online at jcrew.com? Is this an in-store item only?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nevermind! Found it under "Knits and Tees." Was looking under "shirts and tops." Has anyone tried the lace tulip mini? I am wondering whether it makes your hips look big b/c of the draping.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I second silver_lining on the boulevard trench coat. I liked in black, I thought the sandstone washed me out but it is a very pretty color. I loved both the fit and the fabric.

I also tried the Jenna's pick
Linley chino. They run big. I am in between 4 and 6 in pants and 4 was too big. I have a straight figure (30" waist, 36-37" hip) and there was a lot of fabric sticking out in the hip and tigh area. If you are curvy or pear shaped these may look great on you.
I do have this problem with a lot of JC pants recently and find them unflattering on my rectangular bottom half.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry Alexis, this is terribly OT...I'm trying to contact Ms. PFP (Post-fab princess)...if you're reading this, can I be invited to your blog? I usually check in once a week or so but now I need permission...pretty please?

    Thanks!

  19. I'm with you, gem twin and babymama, about the Waverlys. I loved them in the store, ordered them online in the shadow color, and then got one more in the store in the warm gold color. Of course, they're both being hemmed right now. . .

very soft fabric, slim cut. They run just a tad large, but I think they look good drapey, so I didn't try on the smaller size.

  20. Crewcuts review:

Girls' Audrey Dress: Love it! The color is simply gorgeous and I love the blend of the fancy silk tiers with the soft cotton shift underlay. Even though it looks fancy in the photos, it can easily be dressed down with denim or leggings underneath. It's in serious need of pressing, but DD, who has a lot of sensory issues, gave this "party dress" a thumbs up.

Girls' Playful Posie Dress: I know this dress is in limited sizes, but thought I would review it anyway. The fabric is not quite as soft as the slub cotton dresses, but oh, is the print pretty! The cap sleeves are not tight, which is great for kids. Love the bubble skirt, which makes the dress unique.

Boys' Rogues Gallery Pirate Tee: I wish all of my tees were this soft, but substantial. DS loved it the moment he put it on (helps that dad has a similar tee and happened to be wearing his the day we got ours). I've never been disappointed in cc tees for DS. The graphic print is very cool. I got his usual size and it's still generous enough for layering over a l/s cc white tee. I wish I could fit into a size 14 b/c I would be all over the Red Beard tee in a heartbeat!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Linley chino: Love them! I found them true to size and figure flattering. The material is substantial and a bit stretchy. The brunt caramel color is very pretty.

I tried the blue/grey version of the Sunnie pencil skirt. The colors are very pretty and quite versatile. The fabric is nice. The skirt would look great with cranberry, green, navy, etc. Unfortunately, unless i've gained weight, it was a little snug in my usual size. Also, the waist was virtually straight, with little curvature. It looks that the model is wearing the skirt low on the hips in the Sunnie version. If i sized up (to accommodate the hips), the waist was huge. Will probably be a no go for me sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. For those of you who have tried on the Sunnie skirt, may I ask if the skirt is fit TTS or fits small? I'm a p00 in skirts, and I am wondering if the regular 00 would fit me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Saw the Stadium-cloth elements coat in store in dark fatigue. I was really interested in this coat after seeing it online, but IRL, i was not impressed. The material in many of them was already pilling and there was inconsistent coloring. Each were varying shades.

Lacey top in black: Very pretty and true to size. The lace is nice; the underlay is somewhat thin though. I expected it to be a heavier silk or lightweight shantung rather than a georgette. Not fully convinced on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sydney, I think the skirt runs tts. I took a 4, which is pretty much always my size. If anything, it is a bit roomier than this year's pencil skirts. It is a little shorter, though, at about 22 inches.

    ReplyDelete
  25. When I put my hands in the field jacket pockets (don't know the item number; it's the one that comes in olive and black, currently on sale for $59.99), the pockets ripped open. I am a 5'2 weakling so I don't get it. Told the store manager and she will exchange it for a new one. But seriously? Where do they make their clothes now?? Shame. It's such a great little jacket too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also, I received the alpaca tirette cardigan. I really like it, and will be keeping this and returning the arrow, which I haven't worn. This is the same light gray as the arrow I have, but it is a lot softer and the collar is a little less dramatic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I bought and returned one dream turtleneck last year due to pilling, and have avoided dream since. Are the cambridge cables dream yarn? Has anyone noticed pilling yet on this year's version of the cambridge cables? TIA.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Corry, I think that the cambridge cables are in fact dream yarn. I can't speak to the pilling factor on it - but I believe another JCA (xoxo maybe?) got the shawl-collar Cambridge sweater this year and reported that it was shedding all over the place. Personally, I don't trust Dream yarn - the Dream sweaters in my B&M look like rags... and they're still for sale! Somebody needs to go to town with a sweater shaver in there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I received my dream v-neck cardigan and sweater yesterday. Put them in the washer and dryer to shrink them (many of you might be appalled at this point). Both came out perfectly fine. I was eager to see how the materials hold up after reading what other JCA have written. The result was surprisingly pleasing. I much prefer the dream sweaters over wool nowadays.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Kris, thank you for the info. That skirt is not for me then. I love the fit of this year's double serge skirts. Of course I don't have any to compare to from previous years.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can anyone comment on the difference in fit between this summer's stretch double-serge pencil skirt and the wool double-serge pencil skirt (item 28360)? I had to size down for the stretch skirt and if the wool one would fit the same -- one never knows! Thanks so much.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have to agree with Cleo's review of the Stadium Cloth Elements Coat -- When I saw it at my B&M, I hardly recognized it as the same coat from online. The fabric seemed so thin compared to other J Crew wool coats that I have. I didn't even try it on, which was disappointing, given the outerwear sale last weekend, and the fact that I desperately wanted that dark fatigue color to work out.

Has anyone tried the Dollop Coat? I'm interested to get a sense of the fit, as it looks like it could be fantastic or go terribly wrong... Couldn't find it at an NYC B&M, so even though it doesn't say catalog only I'm not sure I'm going to be able to try it on without a buy and return scenario.

  33. My review of the Cashmere v-neck cardigan (in soft peacock), as promised:

OMG, was I pleasantly surprised by this! I'd expected it to be a) too long on me and b) too loose. It fit like a dream. Hits me a little bit below my hip (like halfway over my butt?). It also feels very well-made, despite all the complaints I've heard about JC Cashmere (which hasn't stopped me from buying -- fingers crossed that I'm not being stupid here). Definitely a keeper. My only complaint is about the color. Online, this cardigan looks vibrant and gorgeous! In person...well, the peacock color is much more muted. I tried it on in a poorly-lit room, but it was definitely not as bright as I'd expected. I'm keeping it, though, as the color I'd exchange it for would be black (and I have too much black).

May end up buying another one on FS, if I can restrain myself for that long...

  34. sherbie, I have a pic of the Dollop on my blog (last post just published). It was a miss on me but maybe I should have sized down (I sized up). They had it at the Soho store as of last Friday but only in the bronzed twig color.
For those interested, the pics of the Sunnie in the grey-ish color are up too in the same post. Personally I find that it fits small, it is at least a size smaller than last year wool perfect skirt. I would say that it fits like the embroided ikat from the summer. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  35. ...I take it back. I ordered the Cash v-neck cardi in black and a Jackie in tavern green. I suck.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bobster: I have both the stretch double serge and the wool double serge, and I also had to SD in the stretch version. I originally bought the wool version in the same (smaller) size, and it was def. too tight. I ended up exchanging it for my normal size. Long story short...go with your regular size in the wool double serge!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have both colors of the Sunnie and I took my normal size in both of them. I also took my normal size in the timber tweed skirt. I sized up in the moss tweed, but only for length.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Question for anyone with the Sunnie skirt, is the sizing the same as the Canterbury Bell skirt?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  39. AppGAl -- thanks so much you have saved me from a return. I really appreciate your help!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Annie: I have both and found the Sunnie smaller and more square.

As for the sizing of the stretch cotton pencil skirt, the fit varied for me by color, the black was the slimmest fit followed by the natural, then the blue. (Those are the only colors I've tried.) I could size down in the blue.

  41. @ E Hayes, I am actually wearing the Merino Dore cardigan right now (arrived yesterday) and I love it. I am a M in the jackie and wearing a M in the Dore. The fabric is a soft, light-weight merino (not itchy at all) and it hits a little longer than the jackie, which I think is a good thing as I cannot wear my jackies buttoned and feel appropriate in the work place. The buttons are a bit heavy, which makes it so the top left side of the placket, if you wear it buttoned part way, fold down, but not a big deal. Also, the buttons are definitely a brassy gold, FYI.

I also received the Cashmere femme cardigan in hthr nickel; open cashmere in snow; ribbed open cardigan in cypress; chevron tank in windsor gray; infinity cardigan (laughably long) and the silk vivie top in mauve morning.

I LOVE the color of the vivie, but it is a bit short. Also has a cowl neck, which I liked, but overall not a huge fan. May be partially because it arrived so wrinkled that I could not make a fair assessment.

The chevron tank is great-- much better than expected. Hits at hip and can go casual or dressy. The non-cashmere ribbed open cardigan runs very large and is not particularly flattering- will be going back, but the cashmere one fits perfectly. I highly recommend it, and they reinforced the collar/cuffs, which I think is a nice touch. Also love the detail of the femme and plan to get more colors. All in all, a successful purchase.

Thanks J.Crew, finally some items I wanted to order after a too long hiatus!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks Catherine! My favorite cardi ever is the merino melanie button cuff from Fall '08, it just has a great fit and holds it's shape. I'll definitely check out the Dore since its the same fabric and I like the buttons and pockets, thanks again!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Has anyone tried the Flannel Banquette dress in the Seaport Blue? I'm wondering how it fits but also how you've styled it? I love the color and the cut, but wonder if I'll get enough wear out of it. Thanks!

  44. OT - Does anyone happen to know if Madewell does % off sale items very often? Some cute items popped up in my shop-it-to-me this morning. I'd hate to order then get the extra % email this weekend... :)

    Thanks!

  45. I didn't like the look of the waverly on me- I guess I am alone in that- and am looking for a chino with a low rise, but trouser leg. I like skimmers and scouts, but want a to the floor pant, not cropped. I also love the denim trouser pant and the bistro... Any reccommendations?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Mmm not that anyone cares, but I ended up returning the peacock Cashmere v cardi and will instead keep the black one + the tavern Jackie when they arrive.
That being said, is the tavern as bright IRL as it appears online?

  47. MADEWLL CITY SLOUCH TROUSER JEANS:
When these went on sale I as delighted! I ordered them right away...days passed...and they ARRIVED! I slipped them right on and...*sigh*, meh...croch was too low crop was akwared and they were falling off me...must be the size I told myself. I shipped them off and order ad size down...meh again. I dont want send you off with the idea that they are awful or unflattering because...they are not...the're just...MEH.

  48. Today I received the contraband goodies that I ordered with the 30% in the not-posted factory store and I am seriously underwhelmed.
You all are right - the quality is definitely not there.
For myself, I ordered the Celosia cardigan in Cinnamon Spice and love the ruffley front but really wish I would have pulled the trigger when it was available in wool from the retail store, like last year. Cotton cardigans don't cut it in North Dakota winters.
I got some basics for my husband and he was really happy with the thinness of the long-sleeve broken in t-shirt, but I'm glad I didn't buy them at full price because that would be ridiculous.
In short, I don't think I'll be shopping at the factory store again. Lesson learned.

  50. Corry, as silver_lining mentioned, I did review the shawl collar cambridge cable sweater in the nordic blue color. It shed so much it was just ridiculous. I took it out of the plastic and hung it on the costumer (standing coat rack) next to my navy pinstripe banquette dress that I was trying with different scarves. After trying on the sweater I noticed the dress was covered in shedding from the sweater, just by hanging next to it for a few minutes. I promptly put the sweater back in the plastic packing and took the lint roller to the dress.

I can't comment on other colors but I would not buy the nordic blue that I tried, even if drastically discounted. I'm sure it would be a mess within a couple of hours and I refuse to throw away any amount of money on something that is substandard.

  52. I recently picked up the Rimini cardigan in Cobblestone, and I love it! Didn't think this style would look good on me, but I was pleasantly surprised at how flattering the fit was. I also got the Crystal Bead cardigan in hthr shale and it is beautiful!! The color is fabulous. I am obsessed with JC sweaters and love waiting for them to go to FS!

  53. Men's marled wool pullover or crew neck #31899 for $64.50. The bright navy is more of a heavily heathered navy. Great fit, slightly more slim than the usual Shetland crew necks from J.Crew. The wool is very soft and just a little heavier wool than the merinos.

The men's sueded crew neck tee #21579 currently on sale for 34.99 regularly $49.50. It's like a sweatshirt's little brother. Very soft cotton, great fit, not tight nor sloppy. Great colour. It would be wonderful under an oxford shirt or tee. I'd love to get another one, but I need to get on the wagon as I have jumped off my wallet a little too much lately.

  54. I also placed an order last week on some sale items. I received shipping tracking info on Sunday but have seen no updates this week at UPS.com. Could I still get an "Out of Stock" email? :(

  55. jcrew guy in Canada, I appreciate your review of men's items. I assume most of the menswear is still good quality and style but it's hard to know for sure. Looking for some potential Christmas gifts so reviews are very welcome.

  56. Thanks silver lining and xoxo; I'm sorry to hear about this. Oh well, cross that off my list!

In terms of the Madewell question, as far as I know they have never done a % off sale items online.

  57. Hi,
Can anyone tell me the price of the pixie pants and the sherpa hoodie in store? And does anyone know if they have the skinny ultra lounge pants in store? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hey xoxo, the mens' line is quite consistent in the fit and a decent value quality wise. Some piece are better than others. My top favorites are still the merino crew necks and v-necks along with their shirts. The ties are good and you never need to worry about the fit. Chinos and cords are also good. Wool pants are a little over priced, lately I find BR wool pants to be a better value. Hope this helps. Good luck with your shopping.

  59. I ordered the Novo Stripe cami last week, something I had been looking at for a while and waiting for sale. I am normally a 2 in J. Crew tops. Having seen it on various blogs, I decided to order both a 0 and a 2. The 0 definitely fit better.

I love this top. It does dip low and I will wear a lacy black cami for day/work wear. For evening and special occasion it is perfect. I like the way the stripes are multi directional. The fabric is gorgeous and is a dark ivory and soft black that is very flattering. Even the dreaded side zip is not a problem because it's not meant to be work tucked in. Highly recommend.

  60. Hello Everyone,
Can anyone review the fit on the wool Minnies compared to the stretch twill? I really like the Glen Plaid style but I'm wondering if I need to size up as there is no stretch to the material? Thanks for any help.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Robin, you can check out pics of the wool vs the cotton minnies on my blog. I tried both of them on, but the wool ones definitely have a tighter fit than the cotton ones. I ended up buying the cotton ones.

  62. Purchased a few retail and factory items during recent weeks; here are my quick takes:

Wool double-serge pencil skirts (bronzed ochre, vintage wisteria): Loves. I'm a pencil skirt addict, but I found these to be right in line with last year's fit. Not sure I'll keep the wisteria - pretty, but really similar to last year's deep plum.

Buffalo boy-check shirt (black): Loves! TTS, slightly larger, looser fit than perfect shirts without sloppiness.

Arrow sweater jacket (black): Cut, collar and thickness are great. TTS. Love that it's 100% merino. Praying it won't pill.

Notte tweed pencil skirt: Not sure. I want to love it, but the fabric feels flimsier than I'd like. TTS for me.

Factory marled wool cardigan: Love this one, too. Runs a little large, so plenty of room for layering. 100% wool, a teense itchy but super cozy.

Factory Tori ruffle cardigan (black): Meh. Runs HUGE. Felt like it would pill just looking at it. Didn't seem as "luxe" IRL as the retail version.

Factory gunmetal matelasse skirt: Meh. TTS, but is a lesser version of the retail pembridge and dazzling dots skirts. "Gunmetal" is a total misnomer - it's light dove grey with pale gold dots.

Factory midnight houndstooth skirt: Fingers crossed. TTS, and a very pretty, deep navy/black combo. Hoping this will be a nice stand-in for the sapphire tweed I missed out on last year. I'm a little nervous the fabric won't hold up well, but I scored it at a great price.

Factory sequin scarf cardi (black): Fingers crossed again. Fitted - my normal S worked, but won't be able to layer much underneath. Have last year's retail pink champagne version; can't tell the difference between the two (retail might be a tad thicker, if anything). Appears to be well-made; 100% merino; sequins sewn on surprisingly well.

Factory camis (Kelsey and Annalise): Saw these at a Factory store this weekend. Got two Kelseys (for less than $10 each!) and passed on the Annalises. Agree with the JCA who worried that the ruffles on the Annalise looked cheap and chinsy.

Factory ombre pearl cluster bracelet: Meh. I've had great experiences with Factory jewelry, but this one felt cheap and plasticky. Back it went, even for $20.

  63. Lauren S, I tried the Banquette dress in the Seaport blue. It was OK, but I returned it because it did not have the "wow" I expect from a full price purchase.
Fit: I am between a 4P and a 2R and I ordered the 4P in the hope that it would prevent the neck from being too low. It was low but wearable without a scarf. Sometimes the shoulders in JC suiting dresses are small on me, esp. in a P. This one was not, perhaps due to the short sleeves, but I know others had problems with the shoulders being tight. Hips were average, not generous.
Appearance: The color was much duller than it appears online--closer to navy than teal IMO. Overall it lacked "wow," though Id repurchase for 1/2 off.

  64. Does anyone have the Alecia suede platform peeptoes? I'm debating between sizes and none of the stores near me have any so I have to order online. I have the charlie platform suede heels in a 7.5 and was wondering if they run the same? I'm typically a 7.5 in some flats (depending on the style) and 7 in driving mocs. Any input would be totally helpful!

  66. I just received my Bon Bon coat in cobblestone today (a birthday present to myself) that I bought with the promotion last week. I had read any reviews I could find about it, and one of them was extremely negative, but I am SO happy with it! The color is so amazing on me. I was afraid it wouldn't be true to the website, but it's an amazing grayish taupe that will keep me from looking blah in the winter. It goes perfectly with my new orange Kate Spade purse (another bday present to myself).

There were a few people who were looking to the Bon Bon for a cheaper version of the Trudie, and were disappointed because it falls shorter than the Trudie. So I took a chance and ordered an 8 Tall, and it is perfect! I don't even bother buying short coats because I live in Chicago and that would just be pointless. I'm 5'5" and the 8T falls a couple of inches above my knees. Also, there were a couple of complaints about the quality/thinness of the double cloth, but it seems on par with my double cloth coat from about 5 years ago (a double-breasted long coat, I'm not sure what style). It really feels luxurious, although, who knows, it may not stay that way. But my fingers are crossed!

I just thought I'd let you guys who were interested know because I'm totally happy with my purchase, and I'm sure there will be another outerwear promo soon.

  67. Amy, JRuby, Clicquot - here I am! So sorry for the abrupt switcheroo!! To be honest I think I may be taking a break. I feel like such a neglectful blogger as of late that I yanked it down in a fit of annoyance at myself. I definitely won't be a stranger though. (:

Everybody, apologies for the absurdly OT-ness of this post. (:

  68. Tortoise printed patent peep toes
    item 28203, originally 198.00, now $129.99

I ordered this when it was $150 with 30% off, so it was $105... it's now marked down further, but no percentage off, at $129.99.

I LOVE these in the graphite tortoise -- it is a really unique color pattern that I have not found elsewhere. I have the flats from last year in this same patent leather and I love those too. These fit like the Joleys, and are TTS. I am a true 8 but with wide forefoot and narrow heel, so some J.Crew shoes just don't fit, but peep toes are generally forgiving in the front and these are no exception. The peep toe opening is smaller than that of the Joley, so it has slightly less give, but still comfortable.

    Sorry to be OT.

  72. Just got my huge 30% off order of clearance items. I"m sure these have all been kicking around for a while now, and some I'm sure I won't wear until next year, but they were ridiculously cheap after 30% off, free ship and clearance prices.

Merino whisper ruffle sweater in natural and black pine: Lovely, flattering -- very lightweight fabric. A little worried that it might pill over time, but so far so good. The natural color is a bit pinker than I'd anticipated -- I'd call it "putty" really, but it's a nice color, and the black pine is a rich dark green.

Leigh chiffon cardigan in heather fog - wasn't sure I needed another cardigan with frilly detailing on the edges (I also have the Cotton-wool ruffled placket cardigan) but this is a very versatile, basic piece. Again very lightweight, so I don't know if it'll hold up forever, but no complaints for a $20 sweater.

Pippy top in pearl: This was the only real disappointment in this order. It's too baggy in some places but the buttons are straining across my chest I am pretty well endowed, so that's not shocking, but I think a larger size would've been too big in other places. This top might only work really well if you're thin and like a loose, drapey kind of fit. I'll still probably wear it under some cardigans, but not a home run.

Solid embossed Lorelei dress in bright seaside: Ok, a little unnecessary in late October since this is totally a beachy dress, but for it was like $14 after all the discounts. I probably could've sized down, and it's thinner than I anticipated, but I'll just put a slip on under it.

Tux henley in black: I really liked this! Was not sure I would, but it's very wearable and flattering on me, and I like the slight shimmer that the gold stitching on the tux "bib" part ads.

Grosgrain gather top in aluminum and dark plum -- unlike the Pippy top, this is very flattering and easy to wear for me. It's a bit tight across my hips, but I'm in the process of losing weight so I'd ordered a size down. I think 10 lbs from now, it'll be perfect.

Ruffled jersey dress in shadow -- cute, flattering, easy to wear. It's lightweight, but I think I can get away with wearing it into the fall with tights and a cardigan.

  73. I just received the v-neck maxi sweater in heather fossil, the cashmere open sweater in henna, and the ribbed open shawl-collar cardigan in rope, all size XS.

The v-neck maxi sweater looked terrible on me. I realize it's supposed to be oversize, but this was just shapeless. It didn't look any better with a belt. Also, the weave is much more open than I expected it to be from the picture. I did like the color, but I'll be returning the sweater.

The henna color of the cashmere open sweater looked red or maroon to me in the picture, but in reality it looks more reddish-brown. The color is still pretty, just not what I expected. The XS felt way too tight in the sleeves. I'll be returning this for a size small in the same color.

Finally, I liked everything about the ribbed open shawl-collar cardigan, except the color. The rope color appeared on-line to be cream or off-white, but in reality, it's an unflattering oatmeal color. It fit very well and seems like it will keep me warm. I'll be returning this for a different color.

  74. Recently bought a two-button Ludlow Legacy blue blazer item 21509 in 38R. The fit is superb....finally I have a jacket that tapers around my stomach area and not boxy. Love the texture of this jacket....silky smooth! This is a versatile jacket as I can wear it with my wool dress pants as well as chinos, cords and jeans. Looks great with slim fit/tailored shirts and pants.

  75. Silk taffeta Gillian dress - Not my fave. I purchased in Dark Pewter to wear to a wedding but I think this may be better for the tall lanky gal rather than someone 5'2" like myself. I looked like a drowned taffeta trashbag.

Wool origami sheath dress - LOVE! It is pretty light weight and the neckline has some interest without being revealing. As I am shorter the length was fantastic and would most certainly be office appropriate.

Anyone have any suggestions for me on jewels or shoes for the Wool Origami Sheath Dress in Heather Elm?

  76. @ tres tippy - I am wearing my Alecia Peeptoes right now. I always get a 7.5 in JC shoes and these fit perfectly. Always get compliments on these. They really go with everything!

Electra Vest - Love it. I pre-ordered when it was in the Fall Look Book and after waiting an eternity it arrived. The wool fur is so cozy and the fit is great. Thankfully, I had a $75 reward card since it seems this item is now $100 off but not even available?? I am happy to own one :)

  77. My golden Sunnie skirt arrived today and I am in love! It's gorgeous. It's not too bright and I think it goes with a surprising number of colors, though I'll probably just stick mainly with black & grey. I did see the in-store blue/grey version but I didn't love the color combination in the skirt.

It seems very well made. Fits TTS. This and the Timber Tweed skirt are probably the only things I will pay full price for for a long time, but they are great. I also highly recommend the Timber. I think I'm officially set on winter pencil skirts!

  78. I'm normally a happy J. Crew customer, but the merino turtleneck sweaters are giving me fits: they develop holes so quickly! Not only do these appear at the seams (I can repair those), but they also show up on the body of the sweater. Recently, I ordered one that ARRIVED with a hole in the sleeve.

These sweaters look great and fit me perfectly, but the fabric is simply too flimsy and lacking in durability. I usually own several turtleneck sweaters at one time, and I always love JC's color selection, but I think I'm going to have to find another source.

  79. Quick addition: kelli, I live in Chicago and bought the Bon Bon coat (in plum; lovely color), and find the fabric and length just fine for fall and our chilly springs. I think the workmanship is good, too. I wouldn't wear it in the dead of a Chicago winter, but I have other coats for that. I am 5'6" and bought the regular length. For those who are curious, I'd say it's slightly longer than a peacoat length, with more style.
