J.Crew Email: What every fall wardrobe needs...(plus, EXTRA 30% off sale & FREE SHIPPING)

"Thanks!" to so many of you, including Marietta & Ketan, who shared the following email from J.Crew this morning.

The email features J.Crew's classic staple, the Tissue Turtleneck Tee (Item 17656; $39.50). J.Crew simply describes them as:
Lightweight, bias-cut cotton with a very soft wash. It's the perfect turtleneck for now and a great layer for later. Long sleeves. Import. Machine wash.
I own a few of these tees (which always go on mega-sale at the end of the season). They truly are easy to wear under anything, as they are light & comfortable.

J.Crew is also reminding us about the offer for 30% off any purchase from their Final Sale {no minimum} and free shipping (over $150 *after* discounts applied) with promo code MUSTHAVE. This promotion expires today!

I did l-o-v-e seeing this offer online. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to take advantage of it. The Final Sale section was pretty empty during the promotion. I am not sure it even updated much (or I kept missing it). Oh well! Hopefully some of you got some amazing deals! :)

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's Tissue Tees? Did you take advantage of the 30% off Final Sale promotion? Will you make any purchases today, before the promo ends?

  1. I love the tissue turtleneck tees and stock up on them whenever I see them for $19.95 or less. Truthfully, I love them so much and wear them so much that I might actually splurge and pay full price if I had to.

I've tried other store's versions, but I've yet to find one that feels and looks as good as this one.

  2. I took advantage of the final sale. Or, I should probably say it took advantage of me! Hah. I ended up with the arrow sweater, and the glen plaid sasha peacoat. My husband also bought a few things for himself... so it worked out for us. I also bought the microspun cowlneck tee, looked like a good layering piece for winter.

Here is the one thing I take issue with final sale.. well, besides it sucking to be stuck with something if it doesn't fit... but, why no exchanges? IF the item is in stock in the size you need, what is the harm in allowing an exchange? If not, then too bad, but if it is... why not.. ?!

Anyway! I've been drinking too much of the crewlade lately ;)

  3. I bought a bunch of summer leftovers and some layering pieces last week, plus the top half of a swimsuit that I'd been hoping would pop back for months. :) Hoping my orders come before I take off for the weekend ....

  4. I like the tissue tees and own many from years ago that seem well made and no holes:) but not a fan of the turtlenecks as much. I own two and wear them occasionally. I used to LOVE turtlenecks but for some reason have not worn them much in the past 3 years. I did have to buy the spearmint color in everything when it was out in 2008 including the tissue turtleneck. Loved that EXACT shade of mint.

I did not take "advantage" of final sale. I am sticking to my guns and never buying final sale. I just don't even bother to look at it (every day like I used to) before "the trick" went away. I just refuse to play JCrew's game. Glad others don't have any issues and can get deals on what they want! :)

  5. I didn't bite on the online sale either, but I did get the Chiffon Cecelia cami at a b&m for $49.99 (it is maddening to see it still full-price online!!!)

I have several of the tissue t-necks and really like them. They are definitely a nice staple piece for fall/winter and layer nicely without making me too overheated. I'm happy to see them do some striped versions this year!

  6. I love these tissue turtlenecks and usually buy one favorite color at FP every fall, then pick up some leftovers on sale after Christmas. They are really great layering pieces, especially if you have sensitivity to wool, they are really light under the clingiest sweaters. Mine have held up well, some of them are 4 years old and no holes.

Watched for a sale update but there was nothing new that I saw over the weekend. Glad I picked up a few things last week. I would love to see a promo code for skirts or accessories, or why not just a code we can apply to everything and free shipping included?!

  7. I'm just glad to see J Crew tout 'classic' anything after the last couple of years. I'd about given up hope.

I thought J Crew had gotten too hip for its loyal fans.

  8. No final sale purchases for me, even with the 30% off. There honestly just wasn't anything that I absolutely had to have.

  9. I also like the tissue tees and have several, t-necks and non t-necks. But I'm going to hold out for markdowns on them before I buy any more.

  10. I purchased the Merino whisper ruffle sweater in Dark Raisin, Black Pine, and Bronzed Twig. Could not find any photos or reviews but I am hoping they will work as a middle layer between a tee and a heavier cardigan. My office is freezing in the winter.

  11. Is this the "old" J.crew they keep talking about bringing back? I'd hate to see a bedecked tissue tee. Yes, like Alexis, I get these on FINAL FINAL FINAL FREESHIPPING SALE. For like $10 each. I love them!

  12. How do the tissue tees run, size-wise? I'm so glad they've introduced xxs, but I'm worried that if the tees are already made to be drapey, they'll still be too big for me.

And Agentsuperstar: the merino whisper sweater was very pretty, very thin, and (on me) very large! I hope it works out for you!

  13. Ali, The tissue turtlenecks are slim-fitting which is perfect for my figure type, broad shoulders with no hips. Anything drapey or boxy on top only exaggerates the imbalance. Love the tissue turtlenecks, and they run tts.

  14. Love the tissue T-necks but I have a few stockpiled from the last 2 seasons... They went down to $9.99 at one point last year so I have a few too many... I did pick up a few items this weekend during the sale but it was mostly crewcuts.

  15. Even with the extra 30% off it looks like a lot of stuff isn't moving. At $21-28 each the Calista camis are still in stock in every size. I guess people don't want to risk final sale. I didn't order anything.

  16. It's really weird how they don't update the sale section during promos. They started this one off weak and it only got weaker.

I end up not wearing the tissue turtlenecks because it's too chesty of a look for me w/a short torso. I mostly prefer layering sweaters with v-neck or crewneck tees & then adding a scarf. That said, the t-tnecks are great in the fab colors when they have them.

  17. Land's End and LE Canvas have some fantastic turtleneck tees on sale for anywhere from $8-$13 right now with free shipping.I have several of the "modern fit" ones and they fit the same as J Crew's plus, are much better quality. They are a thin weight, without being see thru (and no holes after 2 washes either!), and are made of that stretch modal material.

That said, I did end up buys some things on final sale. They had a few colors of the watch straps marked down to $5, so I grabed like 4 colors. I recienly bought a watch off e-bay that looks almost identical to the vintage timex, (but for only $10), so I'm trying to recreate the look.

  18. egyptomaniac,

Yes, I agree with you on the LLBean turtlenecks when I used to wear them daily in COLD MN weather in my teens and early twenties. I prefer them to JCrew's by far and they stand behind their product. I had two LLBean navy turtlenecks and one faded fast MANY years ago. I sent it back and they sent me a new one; no questions asked!

I do not like Land's End turtlenecks. Their sales pitch is no seam at the neck but I find they are hard to get on and off and constricting but that could just be me-the quality is there and the fit is nice too.

  19. no fs for me this time, although I really considered it greatly this time. I wasted too long staring at my computer. I resisted and will go check out my nearest b&m nest week.

  20. I LOVE J crew tissue tees, but I have two beefs with this falls line-up: There's no 3-quarter sleeve crewneck, which is my favorite; and I hate the colors.

Also, a question: does anyone own a tissue tee in white? Is it too sheer to wear alone?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Emily, I own the tissue turtleneck in white and it is too sheer to wear alone unless you're OK with your bra showing through.

I wanted to mention for Canadian JCAs that Tristan has some pretty colored turtlenecks and LS tees in a very fine smooth knit. I will be picking some up when I stop in there later this week. They are good quality and if you have any issues, ever, Tristan will give you a full refund, no questions asked. They also have a line of clothes that are made in Canada. :)

  22. I just went and poked around in the store, tried on a bunch of stuff but only got a perfect-fit tank with little smushed silk tux ruffles going down the front. Before I paid $19.99 for it, I searched the style # in the dressing room but nothing came up online. So I got it, been needing a black one anyway, and I'm finding the tux ruffle detail helps pump up the looks of my flat chest quite nicely! :)

I really wanted to get the dot flouncette blouse, but it's still $49.99 in store and I feel like it will drop further (although it's still FP online at $98!). I also found the 8 quite roomy through the sides, so I definitely need a 6, which they didn't have.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I got the Bayberry flouncette blouse. I've been waiting for it to go on sale since it first came out :) Glad I got the 30% off! I got in in a size 2 which i'm hoping will be right. I have the solid loulou (sp?) blouse from last year which looks like the same shape/fit in a size 4 which is a tad too loose but deff still wearable.

  24. Darn! I forgot I wanted to order the Bettina cami and now they only have it in a few size :(

  25. OT: Old Navy has a jacket that reminds me of a combination of the Bella and Maggie: Click here (if you're interested).

    Have a great day! :)

  26. WOW. ON really does have no shame! Shameless, shameless J Crew ripoffs all over their store. Way too many to ignore, and now this. ...

That said, what a shame it's an A-line shape jacket or I might have gone for it in a few colors -- if I had a % off promo, that is.

Why oh why would they do that to the bottom hem?

    ReplyDelete
  27. JCrew has had plenty of years to reintroduce the bella. Glad to see it at Old Navy actually.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the tissue t-necks but they are way overpriced IMO and if you don't absolutely need one now I would wait and stock up at the end of the season when they go down in price (last year they were $14 in stores after Xmas).
I will probaly try the wooly ribbed t-neck this year as it is warmer and someone posted that they are on sale for $29.99 in store.

  29. FYI, I just got the "approval" email from Amex on my Return Protection claim for some final sale items from JC. They didn't even ask me to send them the loot (it was just under $100). This was my first experience invoking my "return protection" benefit and while it took 5 weeks to clear, everything came through. They credited my card.

If you want to check your Amex to see if you have this perk, you can go to the online claims page and start a mock claim...it'll say you're qualified or not. My Skymiles Amex does not have this perk, only my traditional Amex does.

  30. I first got some tissue turtleneck tees when i was preggers and they stretched out over my belly! I still have them from then too... no holes...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Since moving to SC from Ohio, I no longer wear turtlenecks. If I still did, then I would try these.

I did order from final sale, but only crewcuts items that I knew my niece and nephew would wear. At least crewcuts sizes seem to be pretty consistent. Although they both wear larger CC sizes compared to other stores.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i love the tissue tees and turtlenecks, and own a few of each for layering, but i also find it so disappointing that they are incredibly sheer. i can't even wear a solid black tissue tee without a camisole or some other undergarment underneath. that being said, they're still wonderful for layering.

  33. I agree w/ Elaine that it's too bad it is an a-line coat at Old Navy. If it was more fitted I'd be all over it. I couldn't afford the Maggie but love it.

The only thing I got final sale was a pair of the contrast marjorie ballet flats. My gray lulus are just about dead (the leather they are made of is NOT durable) and I've been looking for some new gray flats. Surprisingly hard to find gray flats that are not suede and/or metallic. I'm thinking about doctoring the marjories up perhaps with the bows off my lulus. The regular marjories are just too plain.

Now that they are carrying current retail items at the factory store, I will be going there much more frequently before buying anything online!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I saw retail items in my factory store today but they were MORE expensive. I saw the long sleeve henley with sequins on it, and they had all the colors and they were 39.50... and I know online they are 29.99 because I almost bought one. I was outraged!

    ReplyDelete
  35. OT - I stopped by my parents' house today and my mom had gotten the new Talbot's catalog. I am in love with many items! I wish I had lots of places to go where I needed to dress up! Oh the flowers and sequins and silk! Such pretties! Next time I'm near a b&m, I'm definitely going in to try on some of the new goodies. Just to see what sizes I would need. Then, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for some markdowns (cause the new pretties aren't cheap! :D).

  36. I don't know where to post this but... watch out for fake bee necklaces on eBay. Like this one. It is definitely fake. I mean, I generally stay away from buying anything on eBay that comes directly from China... but if you hadn't seen the authentic version up close it might be hard to tell.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I rocked the hell outta the sale. The merino boyfriend sweaters weren't in the final sale area, but were only 35$ with the discount (and they were still 69.95 in the stores two weeks ago). Such a score.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @EM
WOW! That's important to point out..that is truly a fake! And I love how they have the nerve to call them self, "honestseller2008" Ha! Maybe back in 2008 but not now;)

Alexis, just a thought. This might not be a bad post to make people newer to the brand or less knowledgeable about J Crew jewelry and using Ebay to find older pieces. I know there have been helpful posts about the fake bubble necklaces in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What has the world come to... JC knockoffs? That Bee necklace looks totally fake and I would not order from any eBay seller with "??? China" as their location.

I only ordered a striped bateau top for my daughter from CC during this promo. I am waiting for Fall Sale anytime now before it's the holidays...
