"Thanks!" to many of you, including opheliasmom (in this post), as well as Christy, Heidi, & FFM (in this post), & Marietta, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} Although the J.Crew Collection (click here) displays the same slide show of new arrivals from February.
J.Crew has also provided the latest catalog online (click here to view). Also available is is the Men's only catalog for March 2010. :) As for the new arrivals...Crushin' on: I already mentioned some of my favs in an earlier post (refer to "J.Crew's Catalog for March 2010 {thanks FFM!}"), like the the Roses Vines Perfect Shirt (Item 23484; $78.00) which has a fabulous print. Of course, I found more items to love! I am also crushin' big time on the Cotton-Gauze Petal Cardigan (Item 24596; $98.00). The scalloped petals down the front placket are absolutely lovely. Although, I am not a fan that it is "hand wash" (really J.Crew?) There is also the Sunshine Peony Cardigan (Item 24938; $98.00) with its "ready for Spring" watercolor floral print.
Hatin' on: Why, oh why, did you include the Matte Jersey Curator Pant (Item 25507; $168.00)? Call them "curator pants" all you want, but those are harem pants. No one can rock these. No one. And to call them a "a work of genius" makes me really question you sometimes J.Crew. Seriously, you can do better. Much better. While we are in the pants section, I do not care for the Silky Linen Slouchy Pant (Item 24575; $69.50). It is the distant cousin to last year's Linen-Silk City Pant (Item 20184; $98.00). This is one family reunion I am going to have to pass on. I also have to mention the Crystal Nebula Bracelet (Item 25319; $78.00). I saw it in person and gawked at the massive size of the orbs. I don't know how anyone could legitimately wear this bracelet for a whole day without banging into stuff constantly. Bigger is not always better. Better is better. (You know what I am talking about Mickey!) :)
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)
I agree with you about the harem pants they are terrible. I like the linen cotton tees I wonder if they are sheer? other than that not much is making me want to order right now.

ReplyDeleteDo the thumbnail shots look really pixelated to anyone else, especially in the tees & knits? Maybe my eyes are still blurry from waking up. I like the vintage zebra stripe print as a mini skirt, but the 16" length is so not happening for me. The Sunshine peony coccinelle dress also looks nice. I also like the vines perfect shirt you mentioned Alexis as well as the Honeyclover ruffled romance perfect shirt but $118??!? Come on J.Crew. That's extortion.

ReplyDeleteI think that some of the prices are absolutely insane. $110 for the cotton-silk streamers tank - wow. And those linen-silk pants look almost exactly like the city-fit ones they're still trying to unload. A lot of the stuff just feels like 2009 redux. I am SO glad that Canvas and other places have stepped up their game this year.
The Wednesday skirt is very cute, but I'm sure about the elastic waistband.

I looked eagerly through the new catalog, but didn't see anything I'm drooling over. I was really happy to see see not just one, but TWO Asian "real women"! With the regular model, that is a whopping three beautiful Asian sisters working it for JC!!! That's more than some high fashion mags have in a whole season!
ReplyDeleteTalbots has a big "real people" display in the windows, and they seem to have done a good job mixing ages, sizes, and colors. I don't know why I have such a resistance to buying things for myself from them, they've been putting some cute things out.
The second biggest impression the new arrivals made on me was grooming, AGAIN. What's up with the Edward Cullen 'do on Dianna Lunt? And why no sparkle if that's where they're going?

ReplyDeleteYes, the sunshine peonies shirt that I ordered was disappointing in person. It will be going back; just sitting around waiting to do that within 60 days. No hurry. The only item I see that I like is a sweater that came out a few weeks ago that I bought so nothing this time around for me. I like the perfect shirts but they would have to go on sale for me. I just don't wear button shirts very much to justify $78 for a thin cotton shirt.
I hope you like the print in person.
I confess, the thing I love most about the new arrivals is reading the descriptions. Tons of "borrowed from the boys" and "prepare for compliments" but my new favorite so far is on the Nadja bomber jacket - "it's the kind of piece you'll never regret buying". C'mon JC, I've never regretted buying any of your pieces! Oh, wait...

ReplyDeleteLisa - I tried on the Wednesday skirt in the B&M yesterday. The elastic band is not happening for me. I tried pulling it down to sit a little lower, on my hips and it was a travesty. I'll try to put pics on my blog today. I ended up cancelling it from my pre-order. I really liked the print too. It may work for someone else who is not as "hippy"/curvy as I am.

I guess I'm different in that I LOVED the sunshine peonies pencil skirt -- I really liked the texture of last year's Watercolor Skirt and this skirt has a very similar feel. I love the colors too!

I don't think she's really wearing that skirt. I know they do this often but for a fabric like this, I would have liked to see how it actually looks when worn

ReplyDeleteI was in a B&M earlier this week that had many of the new items stocked already and I officially take back anything good I said about the Crystal Rock necklace- it is GIGANTIC! It practically took up the whole jewelry case-yikes! I did love the sunshine print and picked up the cardigan. I have the button down shirt and agree that it is just not that great...will be going back. I also really liked the tissue sequin tank (26046) It is much cuter IRL- the website does not do it justice- it is very subtle and so soft. And it is on sale right now with 20% tee promo so I ordered it in both colors. My other favorite is the Cotton Argyle cardi (23034) there are also a couple of really cute Crewcuts items -can't resist the adorable tees. But that is it for me:)

I tried the rose vine print perfect shirt when I was in the US last week. Very pretty pattern, but alas the colours did nothing for my complexion so I got the Suckered Gingham shirt instead.

I like several of the new embellished cardigans (not tired of ruffles yet either), but am very skeptical as to how the sheer cotton gauze fabric is going to hold up, esp for the $90-110 price range at which they are trying to sell them.

I'm glad the 20% off promo is still good on the knits and tees. I ordered both the Jaspe Henley and new Jaspe Hoodie with the promotion. This is an extra great deal because I love the Jaspe material and know I'll wear them a lot (just like my Jaspe zip-front hoodie and sweatshirt). :)

ReplyDeleteI am all over the vintage zebra print - love the dress and the cardi. It think those pieces in that pattern are a better fit in my wardrobe than the mini. I'm on the fence about the peonies print. In the cardi. It's vibrant but in the scarf it's dull. I think it really does depend on how much of each color is on the garment, which makes ordering a crapshoot. This definitely calls for a "sift through the pile to find the perfect one" situation.
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot about the crackled copper pencil skirt. Someone please tell me that this skirt is super flattering. Is anyone else discouraged by the pleating and pockets? I was so excited about this skirt but after seeing these details I may have to pass. I guess it's like the double serge pencils from the earlier rollout, which I haven't tried on yet, so who knows.

ReplyDeleteThe item I most love is the Honeyclover ruffled romance shirt. Then I realized I have a very similar shirt from 07 in a green-turquoise Liberty print, ruffled collar, same thing! I guess that's why I like it so much! ;)
I don't see anything I would pay full price for. I like the Silk Wisteria dress, but will wait for it to go on sale. I'm also waiting for the Emile moccasin to go on sale to buy for my grandmother.

And about the size of the crystal rock bracelet, it's something you have to get used to. I wear a Nixon 51-30 watch (huge even on a big guy), and I'm 5 feet. It was heavy at first, but now it's like it's not even there. I wouldn't wear the bracelet, but if you like it buy it because you will probably get used to it.

ReplyDeletePS, I LOVE the Merino Larkspur cardigan--saw it in person and the details are a bit different than the normal Merino cardis--long sleeves instead of 3/4, wide hem and cuff so that everything lies flat and sleek (sometimes the narrower hem "curls" under, if that makes sense). The honey color is SO pretty.
Looks like they brought back the ruffle rose jersey dress (item 18638) instore. I have it from last fall in the plum raisin and love it. They had it out in black and a sepia-ish color. No update to length, sleeves, or anything, just the new color. The plum is still on the site at last season's price, $59.99, in XS and L. Nothing caught my eye in person from the new arrivals, nothing of note in the sale. With all the re-dos and rehashings, it is no trouble at all to do the closet shopping thing.

I'm not sure I'll keep the rose vines shirt as the print looks very similar to the floral fan placket perfect shirt that I recently bought on final sale, but maybe it looks different IRL.

The pockets are stitched down, which I will probably leave as is, and the tiny pleat in front lays pretty flat. I purchased my usual size 2. My PS paired it with Chiffon forget-me-not cardigan in sandstone sky, and the combo is wonderful. Of course I purchased the sweater, too.

I'm also crazy about the Alecia shoes, marquee satchel, and the grommet parlor hobo in buff. But these last items would kill my wallet. I'm using them to bribe..I mean motivate...myself to achieve some professional goals.

Jeanne - I tried on the rose vines at a b&m. It is similar to the floral fan, but I would say the floral fan is more a winter shirt and the rose vines springish. So I could certainly see having both! I only have the floral fan, and I would consider the rose vine on sale. I don't wear enough blouses to justify full price on that one.

I kinda came upon it by luck -- I was at the store to return a few items from an online order that included the bracelet and commented that I really liked the bracelet, but thought $78 was a bit much. The SA said she thought it was on sale now and did a look-up and found out that it was $49.99 -- I was so happy!! I kept it since it was on sale :) Hope this helps!!

ReplyDeleteI just noticed that JCrew is selling Saint James nautical shirts in the men's section. I bought one last fall at a store in East Hampton. They are such nice shirts, the classic and perfect striped T IMO. They're heavier and "rougher" cotton, more like a sweatshirt than a T shirt. I'm pretty sure mine was a women's fit (since it was a women's clothing store), but they do fit large. Anyway, just wanted to recommend them to the JCAs.

I wish they'd carry women's Saint James, too. I am normally a 4/S and tried on the men's xxs striped top a couple weeks ago - it was boxy and huge. They had them styled on manequins all over the women's section. They were adorable over swimsuits, but they just aren't cut for women.

I looked at the front cover and was surprised to see it was a Talbot's Catalog. I normally don't like Talbots, its where my mom and sister normally purchase, not me. But this collection looks a lot like Jcrew... So hmmm...
My reaction is kind of blah too. There are some things I really like, but I just feel priced out. I'm WAY over thinking $110 is an ok price to pay for a tiered cami. Over it! Nothing I can't wait for on sale - really good sale, and if its gone, there will be others.

ReplyDeleteEve, I think some of the items in the new Talbot's catalog are lovely and the catalog does look a lot like J Crew. I purchased a few items from their holiday collection and have been very pleased with the quality.
ReplyDeleteOne thing to note is that they do not carry size xs in most items (size small is size 6-8) and they do not carry their 2s in store. I also think their garments are sized generously. That leaves people like me who wear a 2-4 not able to wear most of their offerings. They do carry a full range of sizes in petites (at 5'4" I find petites to be far too short at Talbots).
I would by a couple of the tops on one of the coats from the new catalog if they made my size.
On the other hand, I have 5 new J Crew items in my shopping cart and will probably place my order shortly.
I also love the Delphinia gown. It looks like something a Roman patrician would wear. Sadly, no summer weddings this year as an excuse . . .
ReplyDeleteI was hoping the Camden brogues would be available in the pink color in this rollout but it's still the same 3 colors that don't interest me. A couple of nice scarves and the long cotton cardi are all I put into my cart. I need to go back and have another long look once I'm home from work. The 10 minutes of free time I had at lunch didn't quite cut it.

still obsessed with the alecia heels.... just can't justify that price! i like a lot of their new button down shirts, but they also seems outrageously priced. like the peonies skirt, i think, but like many don't understand why they superimposed it -- makes it hard to see how it fits and in the close up, it looks like i has weird hip bulges.

ReplyDeleteI think the new offerings are way over priced. I can get just as good a quality and some cute floral shirts from Land's End Canvas line...two for one in price almost. I also found two cute camis in their Overstocks section. All arrived today and fit and am happy.
I have JCrew gift cards that I am going to hold onto...definitely will need a big sale for me to buy.
I'm going to order some tees but that's it, nothing that I must have. Am I the only one that misses the old strapless embossed beach dresses? I have them in multiple colors, they're so versatile.
ReplyDeleteI keep turning to other retailers to fill the void...I am loving Talbots and Ann Taylor right now...Talbots reminds me of the old J crew. They have great prints, better than the J crew ones out now, in skirts and sweaters. Great colors in everything and really cute cropped pants. Ann Taylor has some awesome shoes that I must have.

ReplyDeleteI'll be curious to see the coastal plaid shirt in person. I'm glad that it comes in tall, but I'm not sure if the smaller stripe is red or brown or what and how it will look. I do wish that some of the madras shirts came in tall, as well as any of gingham shirts in colors beyond blue.
The new Staunton shorts in oxford, Tilden madras, and Sawyer madras look cool. I have plenty of the 11" club shorts from the last few summers, so I look forward to adding the new 9" Stauntons to my collection.
Wow I wasn't the only one who was struck by the fact that the Talbots catalog looked exactly like the old J.Crew. I haven't been to Talbots in years but after getting that catalog I am thinking about checking them out again. Talbots does cut clothing large or at least they used to and I prefer the slimmer fit.
ReplyDeleteBeen shopping a lot at other retailers lately. There are a few items I want from J.Crew but no rush to purchase at these prices. I like a lot of the new T-shirts but wish they came in heavier more durable materials that could withstand my apartment complex's washing machines.
Talbot's is great for pants and skirts! I'm not the biggest pencil or mini skirt fan, and that's mostly what J Crew offers. I like Talbot's higher rise pants, too. I not a low-rise, "hip-slung" fan.

Talbots has some really cute pieces. I got a red patent leather bow belt from there a few weeks ago that I just LOVE. I'd say you have to go there and try a bunch on just to get a feel for the sizing - for example, I am typically a S in JC cardigans, but the Talbots S cardigans were just too boxy. I tried a PS (petite small) and it fit perfectly for me. It might not work for everyone, but if you're on the smaller end of the size range I'd recommend at least trying the petite stuff to see if it works.
ReplyDeleteI stopped by my B&M this afternoon to see the new arrivals and they were absolutely PACKED with merchandise. They have so many tees, it's unbelievable - the SA said they were running out of places to put them. They have an adorable canvas jacket with an A-line shape and epaulets, but at $178 it was overpriced. I tried on the Blakely dress and found it to fit exactly as FFM described - when I bent over in front of the mirror I could see all the way down the top - there would be NO bending over in this dress, and you'd need a safety pin or something to keep it closed. What a shame to have such a glaring execution error on an otherwise cute dress. I thought the vintage zebra stripe cardigan was adorable and a decent weight - it reminded me of my rattan-print merino cardigan from Spring '06. Very cute. There was a lot to see but I didn't have much time. I may go back next week.
Oh so underwhelmed. Maybe the Blakely zebra dress, maybe. Lots of complete "misses" for me including all the HUGE-O jewelry. Twiga is correct, the crsytal rock necklace is "gigantic". I saw it today as well and seriously could not even take that thing seriously. Let's hope they infuse some more items in next couple weeks...

Silver Lining, I love some of the Talbot's spring items! They have a bunch of gorgeous sheath dresses, unfortunately most start at size 4 which is too big for me. I wanted to buy quite a few Talbot's items but I'm sized out.

The rose vines perfect shirt is pretty and the linen-cotton knits are available in some beautiful colors. Other than that I am drawing a blank.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree; maybe its because I don't shop exclusively at J. Crew, but I walked in last night, and I thought it was back to the J. Crew I used to love. There were prints, bright colors, and lots of dresses. I missed the dresses and I missed all the prints. I'm really pleased with this rollout and I saw quite a few things I want that I don't already own something just like.

Just bought some gorgeous scarves in the Overstocks as well as canvas line. Also 20% polos, tees and turtlenecks today. Cute ruffle polo.
I like some of the talbots prints and fabrics but the fits are still so frumpy. They do always have my size though (except for talls). I feel about JC like many of you petite ladies seem to feel about talbots--there are numerous things I would buy if they actually made my size (i.e. cutting off at size 12 does not help).

ReplyDeleteOddly enough, I only purchased the Rose Vines Perfect Shirt. I tried on the shorts and the print was much brighter but they were the 3 inch kind. I need at least 5 or Bermuda length. I did pre-order the Zebra print dress.
I actually like the silk linen city pants--once I got the size 2 versus a 0, they were right on. Paired with the sequin tank and Mackenzie blazer--loved it. I am tall so they may not work for everyone. :-)

I went to Copley yesterday to look at the Sunshine Peonies skirt and dress...didn't really care for them in person. I ended up taking home the zebra dress as well as a GORGEOUS pencil skirt that's not online - it's called Turkish Jacquard.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Baybaybay - they're not making the brogues in a pink. I verified with my PS as well as with Jennifer (the contact given when this issue was discussed previously). She said the customers who had placed pre-sales with her for the pink brogues were notified. There is a grey suede pair that is coming out in the summer, but from what I was told (3 different times), they are definitely not making them in a pink.
Now that I think about it, I haven't bought JCrew clothes since last spring (just accessories) despite visitng the website almost daily and B&M 2x per month.
ReplyDeleteBut....my catalog came last night and I am so excited! I can't wait to get to a B&M! I am in love with so many items. It has me excited about J Crew again.
Despite reading many unenthusiastic comments about the curator pants, I decided to try them on, and I love them. A few caveats: unless you're 6' and 100 lbs (I'm neither), do not wear them at their full ankle length; you'll look like someone's mom circa 1987. I bunched mine just below my knee, and the effect is much more flattering - sort of a slouchy , cropped jodhpur silhouette, much more polished and chic than harem pants. If you're short like me, a heel (I wore them with a wedge sandal) is a good idea too. And, if you're between sizes, buy up: unless you wear the waist low-slung you'll look like you're wearing a diaper (and a full one at that). All in all I love these pants as a bit of panache thrown into everyday dressing, but they probably won't work for everyone.
