During a segment called "Today's Don'ts To Do's (Fixing Fashion Faux Pas)", Glamour's Executive Fashion Editor Suze Yalof Schwartz does some on-the-street makeovers. (And "kudos!" to Cortney who also noticed Editor Schwartz is wearing J.Crew too!)
Exciting part: a visit to J.Crew's Collection Store with the Creative Director Jenna Lyons! Naturally during that part of the segment, I am checking out all the lovely J.Crew merchandise behind the "fashion victim".
What are your thoughts on the segment? Do you like the various J.Crew outfits featured in the segment? Do you like how the makeover outfit is put together?
(sigh...) Seeing that Campo bag back in the background at the Collection store is making me rethink the fact that I sent mine back LOL!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the segment, but it's a little mean to go out on a hot day in NYC and pull fashion "victims" -- maybe it's because I could easily picture myself dressing like a slob on my way to the gym or doing errands with the kids LOL!
I own the jakarta mini like Isabel was wearing, and I love it.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think her outfit was cute and definitely more put together than what she left the house wearing ... but it was just meh for me. I loved the cardi on her and thought it was great with the tank, but something about that cardi with the jakarta mini didn't sit right. I also thought that the fit of the mini was off. Maybe she should have sized up?
P.S. I thought her hair was adorable, and I LOVE the necklace!
I liked Suze's outfit better than the girl off the street. Like lilac cupcake, I think the skirt and cardi are both cute but I didn't like them together. I did like the necklace with the casual outfit. The segment is making me rethink the necklace - maybe it could work in my casual life. :) I also wish I could visit the store in NYC.
ReplyDeleteThe "after" look is fine, but it is pretty bland. The Nikes in her before had some personality (though the t-shirt dress + mismatched socks were bad!). Wish they mixed it up a bit, something with a little more personality, like the grey/neon yellow trim ballet flat (which would have been a nod to the fun sneakers she had on before).
ReplyDeleteI think she looks darling in the after look, but I would have liked to see a POP of color in there somewhere (like maybe a yellow tank?) I thought this was such a fun clip, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt made me want to do so more accessory shopping and to break out my own silver ballet flats again!
I also did not like the after look. The skirt did not go with that cardigan, but each on its own would look nice. The necklace looked great.
ReplyDeletelove that necklace! super pretty!
ReplyDeleteI agree with audball, it's really mean to pull people off the street and tell them they are a fashion "don't"! She has some nerve!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else, cardigan= cute, skirt=cute, together=not cute.
And yes, her hair looks adorable!
Ugh. I hate the phrase "pop of color"; it's so overplayed and trite.
ReplyDeleteThrow me on to the pile of not liking the cardigan with the mini. I like both separately (love, actually) but together? Eh, not so much.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to see a pop of color somewhere- the girl definitely has the skin tone and complexion to wear something bright and bold. I'm bummed that they didn't jump all over that. :(
Everyone: Thanks for sharing! I love reading your take on the makeover outfit. I thought it was okay together- but nothing amazing.
ReplyDeleteAs for the phrase of "pop of color"- I like it & think its fun! :)
I agree with Cupcake -- I didn't think the skirt was quite right on her. And also with Ginger that the outfit lacked that great JCrew POP of colour. Love that cardi, though, I'm still so sad I missed it in my size online!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this Alexis... I missed it! I own both the jakarta skirt and space-dyed cardi, and wouldn't wear them together. However, I think it's fun when Jcrew pulls things together that don't really "go", it makes me thing about not being too matchy-matchy. Love then necklace!
ReplyDeleteI agree the pieces are all cute but this outfit lacked the POP of color that this combination needed! Maybe they kept it on the dull side so it would appeal to more viewers perhaps? I think most J.Crew lovers enjoy color though!

ReplyDeleteI agree, the mini seemed too tight or maybe not the right style for her and with the cardi, a white tee and silver shoes it was very bland. Even the necklace was colorless.
ReplyDeleteAnd what's up with the fashion editor's hair in the studio segment? That just looked awful. Is "the first day of a bad haircut" the new look?
This segment made me rethink the cardigan, which I thought was ugly when I saw it in the catalog and online.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the necklace is great. I caved and got the bracelet in topaz. Although it is a little big for my wrist, I love the way it looks and it is a nice weight. JCrew could improve the packaging, though-it would be nice if they included a drawstring bag for storage for the price.
Was anyone else a bit put off by the repetitive plugs for JCrew and the several mentions of Jenna styling Michelle Obama? It's like Suze and Jenna are best friends or something, or she gets all her clothes free in exchange for the plugs!
I am impressed with how eloquent Isabelle was...not everyone can discuss blue undies on national TV with that much poise. I agree that something bright- yellow, pink, orange?...maybe a hairband?... would have been interesting and since she wears mis-matched socks, she is brave or reckless enough to sport more color. (not enamored of the "color pop" phrase, but I do comprehend the meaning, which is one purpose of language).
ReplyDeleteI would not have paired the cardi with the skirt either but would have chosen a solid navy sweater...boring. It seems they mixed it up to make it outside the 'norm'. The necklace compliments the sweater, and isn't grey a neutral anyway. Adding a pop of color to every outfit can get predictable can't it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting. It was a fun, quick spot to watch. :)
Like the skirt and sweater, but find them to be odd choices for this segment...and very bland. There are so many other fun items right now that I would have chosen over these. Besides isn't the sweater in FS and the skirt totally sold out?? Guess I would have picked some items that viewers could still purchase. But then again I am not the creative director of anything other than my closet:)
ReplyDeleteha, i'll disagree with everyone here and say I LOVED the "after" outfit! i didn't think any of the separate pieces were anything to write home about before and sort of passed over them (other than the tiered libretto necklace which i have and *adore*), but put together, i thought they looked fantastic. the colors really went together for me. isabel was also super cute in general and very eloquent, i was totally impressed.
ReplyDeleteI love that cardi and mini. What a fun episode!
ReplyDeleteI didn't care for the cardi w/that skirt either. And where is the famous J Crew belt? That would have helped w/the skirt fit -- at least the look of it and it was a missed opportunity to add color. Well, at least the chick came out all happy. Seems like she felt good.
ReplyDeleteThe segment was fun to watch in general b/c it was JCRew. The clothes were boring though. I really think the sweater is UGLY! and the mini too tight. Neither does anything for me. To each his own. Still liked the segment b/c Jcrew was shown.
ReplyDeleteFun to watch but I don't like the *after* outfit at all, even though I do like each piece on it's own. I think a cardigan in another color such as Deep Persimmon, Copper, or even Breeze would have looked much better for the particular look shown.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting Alexis, I missed it. Always fun to see JC in the media! But all I kept thinking was ... its 90 degrees and they put her in a slightly-too-tight skirt, heavy necklace, and a long sleeve cardi? How about a cute JC dress in a pretty color and some colorful sandals or flats? More appropriate for real life, IMO, but not the point I guess.
