J.Crew News: What's Happening Today? {Friday Edition}

As mentioned in an earlier post (refer here), I am on vacation! Unfortunately, I won't be able to keep up with all the latest J.Crew news, promos, and the like.

So this post is the "catch all" for J.Crew Aficionadas and Aficionados to share with one another the "current happenings" for today. Feel free to post your comments here- from current J.Crew promotions, sales, emails, and even questions on products (regarding fit & size), and the like. :)

P.S. There will be a daily "J.Crew News: What's Happening Today?" for the rest of the week- in order to keep the most current news on the most current post. :)

What comments do you want to share or ask of other Aficionadas and Aficionados? What is currently happening (in terms of promos, sales, emails, products, and the like)?

  4. Let's try this again. I had trouble earlier this morning:)

I love this dress! I have it and the library print skirt as well as the library sweater:) The quality is outstanding. Rank up there as some of my favorite JCrew items of all time. Fall '07 still rocks!

  5. I have the library dress... I agree with Genny, one of the best JCrew items of all time!! They need to get back to this kind of quality/uniqueness!

  6. That print is great! Em, you rock it out, love it on you!

Did someone mention on a previous thread that there's skirts or something in this print at their outlet? If so, please post again!

  7. I bought the dress on some sort of super sale J. Crew had last winter (2007) and I think I paid 71 dollars? I think the 71 dollars was one of the best deals ever...the silk is smooth, soft, and of a substantial weight. The fit is perfection (I got an 8) and the little scenes are so precious, yet not overtly twee.

I think the library skirt may have been mentioned in yesterday's (Thursday) what's happening today post. Good luck!

  8. I don't know about the rest of you JCAs, but I am dying to go to Paris after seeing all these pics this week. Fall 07 was a great season.

The dress is adorable on the model...I doubt it would look that good on me IRL ;) The style is very sweet, love the cardi too. But I wonder if I would tire of the print, it's very unusual.

  9. Has anyone tried on the 'gorgeous cotton trousers'? I'd love to hear a review.

  10. Just got off with Shawn from the San Marcos, TX outlet. They have two size six library print skirts left, the number is 512 353 3347. Thanks so much JCrewcrazy for posting that yesterday! I'm bummed they're not my size, but maybe another JCA can use the info. Happy shopping!

  11. Hi Aficiondas,

Does anyone own the Piqué V-neck ruffle dress? Like or dislike? If I usually wear XS in t-shirts and 0 or 2 size pants, would the size 0 dress fit? I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

  16. The library print is classic. You have to see the detail on it. Beautiful. I know I will never tire of it and will hand it down to my daughters..I have the scarf, skirt and tote bag as well as this dress.

  17. Can anyone provide a review or feedback on the Matchstick bermuda short? All my Matchsticks are waist-sized (27) but this short is number-sized so I don't know what size to buy or how it fits.

    TIA

  18. CaptainCrew - What is the style number? Or at least is it from this season? I tried on some yesterday, number size. I'm wondering if they are the same. I love the ones I tried.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Gigi, the style number is 16578.

Here is the link, old school:

Would love to hear what you think!

  20. Captain Crew - No, those aren't the ones, unfortunately. The ones I tried are like the sateen fabric, w/o the sateen shine. More like trousers. If I were going to try the ones you gave the link to, I'd get your normal size or go down. But I'm only basing my experience on last year's cropped matchsticks & the fact that they stretch out during the day while you wear them. Maybe they solved that problem this year.

  21. Does anyone know the price on the Library skirts at the outlets? TIA!

  22. Review time! Just got a box of JCrew goodies.

The Featherweight Cashmere Cardigan in Soft Seashell is much better than I'd hoped. It fits almost exactly like the Jackie cardigan, TTS. You do need a cami under it but then, I never wear cardigans alone, buttoned up, so it's no big deal. It is so soft, but not as fragile as I feared it might be given the name. Very pretty colour (soft and could actually work as a neutral), I know I'll get a lot of wear out of it.

Also got the silk-linen v-neck sweater in Weathered Stone. I worried that the Small would be too clingy as the description says "fitted", but it fit surprisingly well and not too clingy at all. The material is lovely, very cool and smooth. Not sure I'm 100% in love, though, because it's a bit shorter than I would have liked, and although I love the colour I don't know if it loves me :) I'll check it out with the rest of my wardrobe and see if it's worth keeping.

Jackie cardi in Spring Daisy -- well, it's the Jackie cardi, what more needs to be said? :) Pretty colour, a nice soft yellow, not too baby-ish, and not too vibrant. I don't normally do yellow but this is a very fresh, pretty shade that will look great with white and denim this summer.

My Cafe Capris should arrive early next week, along with the Toothpick ankle-length jeans...can't wait to try those.

  23. The library skirt was 34.99 plus an additional 30% off. Good luck!

  24. hi Captain--I ordered the Matchstick bermudas in 26--which is the same size I wear in the m jeans. They fit, but I just didn't like them on. Which was too bad because I really lied them online and looked forward to wearing them. I think I would have liked them if they were a bit longer, but I ultimately sent them back.

they are cute though--but not for me.

  25. No Library Print skirts at the Factory stores in Orlando.

  26. I purchased both the Gorgeous Cotton trousers and the matchstick bermudas...

The Trousers are very nice, but I think "gorgeous" is pushing it a little. They look like a basic cotton pant. They are a little heavier weight than some of the other mid-price-range pants, which was nice. They also wrinkled a lot less than other cotton pants I've purchased from J Crew. They fit basically TTS, but by the end of the day, they hadn't stretched out and felt a little tight (but then again, maybe I've gained a little weight so my regular size feels a little tighter...). So if you're between sizes, you might want to size up.

As for the Matchstick Bermudas - love em! I bought them in a size 4 (normally wear a 29-30 in regular length matchsticks) and they fit perfectly - TTS, in my opinion. I love the dark wash, they're very easily dressed up, and the weight of the denim is perfect as well (not too lightweight, just the right amount of stiff). Hope that helps!

  28. I'm with so many of you; the pictures of Paris really make me want to jet off. I had planned to go overseas this summer, but a new house ate up the travel budget and so I'll be sticking close to home. Next year Paris, or at least the Paris Hotel in Vegas I hope.

  29. Hi all! Just thought I'd share an awesome customer service experience/ item review!

    1. Claire leather ballet flats, sandalwood
Beautiful! I ordered these (and the other items) w/ the 20% off, otherwise I wouldnt have bit the bullet. I've been craving a pair of nude flats and these fit the bill. A *tad* snug in the toebox, but my toebox is esp. wide, and the leather is v. soft--no chafing/rubbing-so Im sure theyll stretch out a bit. I highly recommend. TTS.

    2. Marjorie suede ballet flats, pony brown
These fit the same as the Claires. A great staple shoe. Although both of these dont have much, if any, padding, they are comfortable to walk around in--not for a mile walk, but great for the office.

    3. Cotton scroll cardigan, spearmint
TTS, cute. Ive been eyeing this for a while.

    4. Cafe capris- british khaki
I LOVE these, but they are a tad big in the waist/butt, and I hear they will stretch out. I ordered a size smaller to compare (also in 2 other colors!). I love the fit and the length--a bit longer than traditional capris.

    5. Chino cocktail capris, charcoal
Very lightweight and comfortable, but even with sizing down, there is a bit too much fabric in the thighs for me--I have a very straight body. Also, a little bit tight in the waist (in the size smaller). These will go back.

SO, I did an exchange order with the cafe capris (and added on the gorgeous cotton trousers, since I could still use the discount), and the CS rep told me she'd add on my student discount!!!-- I didn't even ask for it!! I was taken aback but was not about to look a gift horse in the mouth...So I am very happy!

Also, Ive been doing some extra shopping lately as I have a new job which requires office wear (unlike my previous jobs) and wanted to recommend a few non-Crew items

    Martin and Osa
Sateen shift dress, $75 but there usu is a discount going on (I got mine for $52)--Great office piece, TTS

Sophia twill pant- got this for $24 with 30% off-- very lightweight and comfy (not see through)--leg opening is a bit wide but ill probably keep them---they fit super-well/TTS and comfy.

Knife pleat Skirt, $21 with 30% off--great piece, TTS, love the ivory color

    Ann Taylor Loft

3/4 sleeve cardis (similar to jackies)-- last weekend they were BOGO free! 2 for $39. Appear to be good quality, good cheaper Jackie substitute (and much better quality than outlet jackies)

    Ann Taylor

    2 really cute tops

    1) ruffle neck top VERY similar to jcrew's cotton ruffle tank, only the neck ruffles arent as big, which is perfect. Runs TTS; $65

    2) sleeveless tie-neck top- great fit, a bit of a nautical feel, on sale for $28 on website (originally $39)

    Happy shopping, ladies!!

I received a package today and it's not mine! I have no idea what happened to my milla tank, but if you're initials are M.M., you live in D.C. and you ordered two pairs of shoes, please get in touch with me because I have your package!

  34. Did anyone else notice on the promos for the new season of True Blood it looks like Jessica is wearing a JC sundress from last summer, in a citron floral?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks CheesyGoodness, for the compliment! :)

I would be so psyched to find the library print skirt at the outlet. Unfortunately there aren't anywhere near Cleveland. I should've gone last weekend when I was by the Waterloo NY one. Oh well! If anyone finds one in a size 4 or 6, I will happily take it off your hands :)

  36. Thank you to everyone who mentioned that the library skirt was spotted at the outlet!

I just called my local outlet (Riverhead, NY) and the person I spoke to said that they didn't have anything like that, but that it might come in with a new shipment.

Is the library skirt a new item at the outlet and is it possible that some stores haven't received it yet? Or, am I too late to snag this beauty once again? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I called the Blowing Rock, NC outlet to ask about the library skirt and they said they didn't have any retail items except a few shirts. So, is the library skirt the retail one, or is it a new outlet version? Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi - It was the retail version/collection piece. The San Marcos outlet also carried Madewell clearance items. Another item I noticed was the ombre strapless dress - they had it in a purple/white (white on top) - looks like the lorelei dress, but I didn't check to see if it was an outlet version (price was 49.99 minus additional 30% off.

    ReplyDelete
  39. FYI the Vacaville Factory store does *not* have the library print skirt.
