J.Crew Sends Personal Touch With Orders Again :)

A big "thanks!" to Slastena (check out her great blog: About All and Nothing at All) who was kind enough to share with us J. Crew's latest marketing card (shown in the image above) that came with one of her recent internet orders. The card reads as follows:

Now more than ever, we remain obsessed with bringing you things that have lasting value - design, style, and quality. This is our commitment to you. We are always available at 24-7@jcrew.com.

Best, Mickey

I am impressed by the note's message. I know they had something similar awhile back (refer to this post). I still think it is a nice gesture by J.Crew and Mickey Drexler. :)

Have you received this marketing card in one of your recent orders? What are your thoughts/ opinions on the card? :)

  1. My 2 orders from last week had these cards in them. The first part of the message is the same exact one as the beginning of the message for the red card. It's recycled, but still a nice thought and a pleasant surprise.

  2. I liked it as well. I almost thought it was a genuine, handwritten note. Gotta love modern printing. I agree w/Char. It's a nice, personal touch.

I am SO thrilled with my EXTRA30 orders and to have this note in there as well made it a teense sweeter.

  3. Nice touch! Quality has been a thorny subject and hope they really are "obsessed."

  4. I picked up an order yesterday that had this card inside. I think it is a nice gesture.

  5. "We are always available at 24-7@jcrew.com."

Doesn't seem grammatically correct to me.

  6. I received it this week, and it didn't do anything for me. It would have had much greater effect if it said something like "Now more than ever we appreciate your continued business. That's why we have waived shipping charges on this order."

In short, action, not just words.

  7. I agree with lady cake. The cost to print these out and put them with orders...just give me a discount or reduced shipping or something...who cares in this climate about a little card--not me!

  8. I hate to see paper waste. Hope people recycle these, wish J.crew wouldn't do them in the first place - it's just not necessary.

  9. I think it almost sounds-desperate, like they KNOW quality is an issue. I wasn't impressed. And like someone else posted-actions speak louder than words, Mickey.

  10. I got them with my last two orders. It was a nice touch.

  11. I received one with my last order (two weeks ago). I think it is a nice touch even if it is just about marketing.

  12. I received one last week, too. It came with my Extra30 order.

  13. I didn't even notice this note with my orders from the last few weeks. I just pull out my items and the receipt from the box...I don't even pay attention!

  16. I thought it was a very nice gesture. It is sort of a waste of paper, but overall, I enjoyed the card!

  17. Actions Mickey, ACTIONS! We have heard this "nice" talk before...now it's time to back it up with actions.

  18. I received this card a couple of weeks ago. I was not impressed, and it seemed sort of hypocritical since I couldn't return any of the items I ordered, as they were FINAL SALE! Fortunately, I liked what I got and it actually fit. If it hadn't, was I supposed to visit "jcrew.com" in the middle of the night and complain? Is that what he meant?

  19. I received this with my patent Cates (in the soft seashell - gorgeous!) and like phoebe, paper coulda been saved but overall appreciated. :)

  20. I think that 24-7@jcrew.com is an email address. I jsut tried sending an email to it to see if they respond.

  21. I agree with lady cake and anon @ 704! Nice gesture but could have added free shipping or save the paper!!!

  22. I was right - I just received a repply to my email! That was fast! I asked about using the red card for phone orders and here is my "offical" response from 24-7@jcrew.com:

Thanks for your email – really appreciate you taking the time to reach out.

The red card is only valid on purchases made in our stores. However, if your local store doesn’t have the items you want, you may order your items from the red phone inside the store and receive your discount on the order.

Please feel free to contact me if I can help with anything else!

  23. I'm so used to getting the little cards promotion their personal shoppers that I don't even look at the cards in my shipment anymore. Blowing smoke, really.

  24. ^ I mean PROMOTING.

  25. No one is ever satisfied!
Damned if you do & damed it you don't.

Regardless of free shipping or 30%, 20% online or even the 25% cards in store & even the teacher's discount.

Everyone is ALWAYS complaining. Here a nice gesture and you feel they owe you. I think it's great that they offer all kinds of discounts on a regular basis. At least I know that if I miss out this time I'll get it on the next. Wah,Wah, Wah all day long. Just be grateful!

  26. Anon @ 2:00, you're right! I NEVER will be satisfied as long as they keep selling cashmere that pills and sometimes comes with holes, inconsistently sized garments, repackaged returns, etc. Especially since much of it is FINAL SALE!!! SO THERE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon @ 2pm: I think you missed the comments where people thought it was a nice gesture. Char, GiGi, myself included.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Crewbie: I think Anon 2:00 was talking about the comments overall, there is a lot of complaining on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Crewbie yes I meant overall, nobody is ever satisfied with the various promotions.

I thought it was a nice gesture as most did. I think it's great that some thought it was a nice gesture.

I agree that their standards in quality have certainly decreased over the years but that's not what I'm referring to.

I'm certainly glad that they have been offering numerous offers/discount on a regular basis. It's a positive thing. Like I said I'll just get it on the next promotion if I miss out the other ones.

I'm just trying to get everyone not think so negatively all the time is all. Sorry if I offended anyone. It's just really a downer with all the complaining. I read this blog because it's fun & happy which is not the case lately.

  30. I got this in my order with the EXTRA30 discount. While I think its sweet and a nice touch, I would have rather received a red card. Oh well...

    :)

  31. Anon 2:00 there are a lot of positive comments about the promos. Sure, there are complaints, some people are never happy and want J.Crew to practically give stuff away and deliver it for free overnight to boot. But when there is a topic about about the latest promo, there are lots of posts from people taking advantage of it, especially the %off everything or % off FS.

I, for one almost always use those promos and I love them. I also use the free shipping promos when there are some good things and I cannot bother to wait for a promo. I usually post the list of promo stuff I order and mini-reviews when I get the stuff, and most of my reviews are positive too, although I choose with care. ;-) I know I'm not alone in that either. Maybe I'm biased because I'm positive by nature. See what I want to see, and perhaps vice versa?

  32. I loved this card and actually saved it. I was really pleased, I got my order the next day, because I live very close to where they ship their orders and I got FREE SHIPPING without a code. Might have helped since I spent almost $1K on their stuff.

  33. ...the fact that there's a glaring editing error on the card seems to me to sum it up perfectly re: J Crew's actual problems with quality control. They meant "We are always available 24-7 @ jcrew.com," but there's a glaring error that no one managed to catch before it made it to the customer.

Remind anyone of $175 tops with beads falling off, or unreturnable final sale blouses with holes in the seams, or eye-poppingly expensive cashmere cardigans that pill on first wearing?

Style (and I'll admit this card is nicely styled) does not quality make!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anony @ 8:29, I think you are mistaken. Crewbie posted that she actually emailed the 24-7@jcrew.com email address so they are presenting it correctly.

Also, if you receive defective or damaged merchandise, J.Crew will always honor your return, even if it was FS and deemed non-returnable.

Yep, there are some quality issues, but the card is fine and J.Crew will stand behind their product without question.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 8:29 what is the glaring error? We are always available? Contractions are not grammatical standard so they don't need to say we're. Not sure what you're talking about as far as the error. Please share.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've had these cards in previous orders, meh, not impressed, give me a discount coupon instead.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Does J Crew stand behind their product when it falls apart after a few wearings and you do not have a receipt? I don't think so, I tried returning a defective product and was refused.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think J.Crew needs to Underline that 24-7@jcrew.com email address. It will be immediately obvious that it is an email address through which we can contact J.Crew, and there wouldn't be any second thoughts like "wait...is that grammar right?". I haven't gotten this "personal touch" card but have received something like it before. And while it was nice, I didn't think it was necessary, and it didn't change my overall opinion of J.Crew's commitment to me as a customer. It barely left an impression on me.

  40. One of the comments from an anonymous person refered to how you cannot return a defective product without a receipt. That only makes sense, how would they know that you purchased it? I personally believe that people should hold on to their receipts until they are satisfied with their purchase. Shoplifters are the reason for more stringent rules on returns and exchanges, so if you can fix that, return policies would improve.
