J.Crew's Zebra Tee Featured In Lucky Mag

A big "thanks!" to Pansy and Soon to be PhD (in this post) who let us know that J.Crew's Zebra tee is featured in the latest issue of Lucky magazine. "Thanks!" to Pansy who also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the image itself or here to see it larger.) According to Lucky, "animal-print tees like this neon-bright number feel exactly right with sharply cut blazers".

I really do think the Zebra Tee is one of the most discussed items on this blog (refer to here & here; click here to read a great product review)! ;)

I have yet to see it in person. However, I am planning to visit a J.Crew later today- and I am totally going to keep a look out for this shirt.

  1. I saw this tee in the store window since I didn't let myself enter the store. I absolutely fell in love with it and I already know that I'm going to pull the trigger on it soon! (Assuming it doesn't already sell out!)

  2. I am not a fan of animal tees but I must say the grey zebra tee is kinda cute.

  3. I saw the crab? T w. the pretty waterfall cardi, and it looked rockin. But, I pass on these, as its just not my style.

  4. Is the one shown in the magazine available online? I don't see it anywhere.

  5. I don't feel like discussing this awful tee anymore...for what now, the fourth post on this. Whatever! This will be a fashion don't/what were they thinking? when the fashion industry looks back on 2009 in a few years...

  6. anon 10:57 Simple solution SKIP over the post rather than posting a snarky comment.

  7. I returned mine. It didn't fit me right in the shoulders, and the color (not white) kind of washed me out.

I was disappointed because I really liked this shirt in the look book.

  8. I think the animal print tees (especially zebras) will be the "overdone trend" of 2009. Too bad, 'cause I like animals!

  9. agree with 10:57. there have been enough posts on this tee.

  10. ^^ Welcome to a Diverse Universe! [The point of this topic was that a JCrew was in a TOP shopping mag.] Since we are happily diverse, brace yourselves. There will be MORE blogs about items you do not wish to wear or read about. We love seeing what some of us are passionate about ...

  11. Is it just me or is the zebra's color more of a HOT pink IRL?!?! I really wanted one after seeing it in the lookbook but the color in the photos makes it look coral-ly but IRL it is not AT ALL- all I saw was HOT pink! I did get the crewcuts one for my daughter though! Did anyone else notice this?

    I have people agreeing with me...see Anony@12:05

And no need for your snarky comment either!

I just wish the zebra tee would die a quiet death...ha ha...lighten up!

  13. MMM,
I also noticed that it was a hot pink. Like neon hot pink. I actually kinda liked it. Although I did expect it to look more coral-like as you did. I'm still going to buy it.

  14. I loved the tee in a lookbook, but not so much IRL. First of all, the background is not white, it's greyish-beige-off-white. Secondly, the print is neon orange , which especially stands out on a non-white fabric. Thirdly, as Gigi pointed out, ringspun= see-through, which is very prominent in this tee. I liked the golden fish much better.

  16. Ok I love the Grey Zebra tee and purchased it last week. (it is already sold out in my area stores) so I had to purchase it when I was in Chicago for business. I also purchased the adorable crewcuts Zebra tee for my 2 year old daughter-too cute.

  17. Some like the Tee and some hate the T. Oh well.

  18. I just bought this tee and have gotten tons of compliments on it already! The zebra IS more orange-y on a beige-ish background, but still super cute. I think it's a very fun tee! I like the seahorse one too, but didn't think the green seahorse stood out very well against the grey background.

  19. The Zebra Tee pictured is made of Slub Cotton not Ringspun. There is a big difference in the quality, the Slub is much better.IMO

This Zebra tee is much nicer than the Grey beaded one.

  20. The beaded zebra tees are totally ghetto fabulous--Hey if you're into that look, why not. The printed zebra tees are way more subtle. None are my cuppa tea, but hey, variety makes the world go round.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haha, ghetto fabulous. You think so?? I can see that, I suppose. I think it's cute, but there's no way I'd spend that amount on a tee, so I bought the one with the orangey zebra instead!

  22. Hi JCA's! Sorry this is OT but wondering if anyone has Mickey Drexler's email address. I had a horrible experience with a rude manager at a B&M store last week, who lied to me about prices in the stores. If anyone has it, please email me at pjstacie at yahoo dot com. Thank you all in advance =)

  23. This tee can definitely work as a layering piece... I trust the minds at Lucky

    ReplyDelete
  24. ^and so it begins. We're going to see a plethora of people out to get the equivalent of 30 pairs of shoes for free....

    ReplyDelete
  25. anon 7:25- it has nothing to do about getting free stuff. i am truly upset about being treated the way i was by a MANAGER! if mr. drexler really reads his emails it would satisfy me enough to know that i'm being heard and not just sitting around after being treated unfairly at a store that i frequent way too much

  26. zebra tees then next step "quacker factory" from qvc

  27. pjstacie,
if you don't mind me asking.. what happened?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the design of the seahorse much better. It's a cuter animal IMO.

But the style of these tees with the animals not standing out on non-white backgrounds and across the midsection is just meh. I really don't get the appeal and neither do my friends.

Still baffled, my husband had the guys over so I asked them their opinion and they were all like, "what are we looking at here anyway? It's just a f'n t-shirt, right?"

As the other poster said, oh well.

I see a lot of obvious promotion for American retail in mags, which is a good thing. But honestly, if you follow the advice of people who are trying to gather for their article each month you will follow the flightiest trends and end up with items that don't last. Fine if that is what you want, but in today's economy it may be better to choose items that will stand the test of time.

  29. Last week, I bought a few Boyfriend Tissue Tees from the Pasadena, CA store for $19.50 each. Loved them! So, when I was in Brea, CA just 2 days later, I wanted to buy a ton more. Brea had the tees for $24.50. I asked a SA if they would price match Pasadena as I had just purchased them for $19.50. He told me he would ask a manager and it'd be no problem as they do price match. The manager walked up to the front with her arms crossed and asked "What do you want?" I can't even tell you how rudely she spoke to me. I proceeded to tell her the price I picked the tees up for in Pasadena just 2 days ago.. she promptly cut me off mid-sentence and said "Pasadena changed the price to $24.50 yesterday. The special is off." and walked away!!! I called the Pasadena store the next day and confirmed the price of the tees. They were still selling them for $19.50. I drove the 2 hours to Pasadena to buy the tees as I will now no longer give the Brea store my business. I've been shopping there for the past 2 years and have been exclusively giving them my business.. not any more!

  30. ^ Anon I don't get it either. I love J.Crew but have only ever purchased the snowflake graphic tee solely because a friend has a tacky Christmas sweater party and I wanted to get into the theme and not be tacky because I knew we were going out to the clubs afterward.

And, don't crucify me for this fellow JCAs, but I did not even like the chiffon rose tee either.

    It's

    Just

    A

    Tee.

  31. pjstacie: Managers are not really the be all and end all in the stores. You need to make your complaint known to the store director. If you call the store, they should be able to give you the store director's name and hours.

  32. My sa told me today that the gray zebra tee flew out the door and that he doesn't expect them to get anymore. In fact, with all the retail problems, he doesn't expect them to get replenished when an item sells out.

  34. Sorry to be OT, but does anyone have the Nolita jean jacket? I saw it at the store and am taken with the pintucks in the front. I got one just like it from babyGap for my daughter last year and totally wanted one for myself. I just don't like the destroyed aspect of the blue, and am somewhat wary of a white jacket with a toddler around, and on, me 24/7. I did like how soft the denim of the blue jacket was, and didn't see the white to compare the feel of the fabrics. Can anyone comment on fabric and if the fit is TTS? I was in too much of a rush to try on. TIA!

  35. Driving 2 hours to save 5 bucks hardly seems worth. You've spent that much in time and gas.

    ReplyDelete
  36. anon 12:25- when you're buying 2 in every color it is more than 5 dollars. More so, it's about giving my business to a store where I'm treated right.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The tissue tees are on promtion on-line right this weekend, no need to drive hrs to get to a store. What you spent in gas covered the shipping charge.

  38. Although I'm a longtime JC shopper, I'm not really up on the different ways to contact them because I haven't needed to. A few weeks ago, though, I emailed CS to tell them about an employee who was really reluctant to do her job...not so much because I was offended but because it was clear in the store that weekend sales were suffering because of her. No response. So a few days ago I forwarded the email to them again with a note, and they sent a boring response. Whatever.

So I was at the store again over the weekend and saw that she and her buddy were making an effort to work the register (even when there was no line) instead of getting out on the floor and in the dressing room. As a result, I saw that someone had shoplifted clothing in the dressing room by hanging their old (non-JC) clothing back on the rack. That wouldn't have happened if someone had just been circulating through the dressing room like they usually do. They actually snapped at the guard when he asked them to help me!

So I sent a reply to CS bringing it to their attention and they finally deemed it worthy of having their higher-ups contact me.

I can only imagine how many other people would take the position and do it WELL right now, and they don't need a couple of girls like them just giving away the store!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agree with the comments that pjstacie should have contacted the store manager's manager - just ask at the store who the next higher person is.

And pjstacie, please don't think that Mickey is ACTUALLY reading those e-mails - if all he did was answer the e-mails sent to him complaining about J.Crew, that would be his full-time job, and trust that he has more important things to do.

And @Sandy - why wouldn't you just bring these issues to the attention of the store manager, rather than CS, who is so removed from the situation? They could have dealt with it right away, instead of waiting to hear from CS. Also, having worked in retail clothing stores, it is EXTREMELY easy to shoplift the way you've mentioned - having employees "circulating" through the dressing rooms (a practice I have never seen observed) would not have changed that much. You should also be careful not to accuse people of shoplifting when you don't see it happenf - for all you know they were out on the floor showing the clothes to one of their friends or something.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What are these employees supposed to do, circulate INTO the dressing stalls & watch you change? Unrealistic. But don't the clothes all have security tags on them, anyway?

  41. Hello,

If anyone has ordered the Rolling Ruffles Tshirt in Dark Charcoal and doesn't need the bow, I just noticed mine came without it and JCrew is unable to find another for me. If you've removed the bow and are looking for a home for it plse contact me at linda.benoit@shaw.ca. I'd be happy to purchase it!
    Thanks.

  44. fyi Forever21 has a verrrry similar zebra tee (white tee, black zebra) - though the back has a(questionable for some) slit/ lace up detail. It's under $16 I think.

  45. I purchased the Zebra tee in gray from the store last week- I'm trying to figure out how to send pictures.

I like the tee and I don't really like anything shiny.

  46. Sandy, a video is worth a million words (I didn't want to write "thousand", too small). Use your cell phone or digital camera to capture the idiots at the store and email it to J Crew. In these tough economic times, service is of utmost importance.

  47. Sandy....just curious... what store did you see this happen at?
