This is a nice promo but nothing I have been eyeing is on sale. I guess I am in need of a global promo like a 20% off private sale or something. Hope there is one next week:) Fingers crossed!
I picked up a few of the painter tees. They are great basics and I love the fit. I like to wear with skinnies and heels, throw on a scarf and sunglasses and go! Simple look, but it rocks.
Sorry this is slightly off J Crew topic... but speaking of 30% off, did anyone get the Gap give and get email that gives you 30% off during March 12-15th? I think if you received it you get to send it to several friends.... If there is anyone out there who would be willing to email me as a friend you would make my day! :) My email is danjoanneec@yahoo.com
I received an email from Martin + Osa to get 40% off online and instore orders on Sunday, March 8 only. If you would like me to forward you the email, email me at
Going off topic - my apologies! Free shipping code question: If you place an order that totals $150to get the free shipping, and then return an item in store, will they retroactively charge the shipping costs? In other words, if I return a $50 shirt and the shipping charges would have been $10 without the code, will they only credit me $40? thanks!
Anon@ 3:52, I've returned things that I ordered with a free shipping code, and they gave me a full refund for all the merch that I returned, with no retroactive charges. Hope that helps. :)
Re. the Martin&Osa promo, I posted the code on my blog (Is that wrong? oh well), you can use it either online or in stores. Happy shopping! :)
I don't think they retroactively adjust the free shipping if you return something. I'm always returning things and I have not been charged shipping. Of course, I tend to return things months after I got them, so that may be part of the reason.
I normally wear a Petite 0 in bottoms & tops at J.Crew and found that the M+O 26 was the best fit. 27 was too baggy and I couldn't squeeze into the 25.
Completely OT but I'm wondering if anyone would happen to have a remedy for a "felted" merino sweater?
(I guess hand-wash does not necessarily equal gentle machine-wash; I placed a merino sweater I got from the Gap this Boxing Day in my top-load washer in one of those mesh bags and, presumably, it was overly-agitated and shrank beyond belief! The fibers are very tightly-wound now and I have no idea how to un-shrink/de-"felt" it. Please help!!)
Thanks for the heads up. I found more info about the First Lady & Oprah at: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/03/06/2009-03-06_first_lady_michelle_obama_and_oprah_winf.html
It does look like a JCrew sweater, but I'm not certain. Maybe it's another of those, "Made specially for Michelle & available to you soon" pieces. I've gotta admit, I like the pieces JCrew has designed for her & the girls so far. Maybe they should have a new line, inspired by & designed for the first family :)
As for the promo.. It seems to be mostly stuff that they were already offering at a discount. I think I'll wait along with my fab JCA's for a more generous offer.
I want to try on the slub cotton ripple ruffle tee it's on sale. It says it's only available online-but I thought I read that someone bought it at a store? Does anyone know if it's sold in stores?
LS - From my experience, if an item is not in the final sale section, it's not final sale. Meaning that no, the 30% off promo doesn't make them final sale. You can return them! :)
Waiting for a % off promo too. Not in the mood for shorts just yet.
Does anyone have the Fireball necklace? Love it but not sure ... is it worth buying? Right length? Will the rhinestones fall off? Are there alternatives elsewhere? In my shopping bag, will pull the trigger if the JCAs give the nod ...
Yes, I have the fireball necklace in the cream color. It is stunning and I love it! It looks great with ivory or white silky blouses or tops. It is one of my favorites!
Anon 540, From observation I think the biggest restocking days are wednesday for markdowns, thursday and friday for huge restocks, sunday a few restocks. nothing really on monday and a few items pop up on tuesday. hth! i used to be obsessed about the restocking game. good luck! :)
O/T I went to Rugged Wearhouse in Richmond VA today and found tons of JCrew flip flops there. Most of them are in Sz 8, 9 and 10. A few pairs of 5, 6 and 7 left. Here’s what I got- Leather Capri sandals 72868 in chocolate (they also have those in bright yellow, silver, light gold and metallic ice) Lucaya Metallic Espadrilles in silver Metallic flip flop (don’t know what it’s called) 93809 in light gold Hubby got Jack Purcell distressed sneakers 85554 in white (I am so jealous!) and Tulum leather sandals in brown. They are 14.99/pair.
They also have - Amelia Espadrilles in metallic gold leather, printed fabric (wild berry?) St. Tropez silk Espadrilles in hot pink
I was told these JCrew shoes arrived the day before yesterday and they don’t know if they will get more in…
If you are looking for cheap summer shoes and there’s Rugged Wearhouse nearby, check them out…
540, no problemo. i'm happy to help! hmm it used to be around 850ish am eastern time but i noticed that lately (this week and last) its gotten later...around 920ish to even a little before 10. i didn't pay attention to some days so i'm not too sure. i guess its a bit hard to give an exact time but there's the ballpark for ya. (9-10 am eastern) goodluck! :)
I wear 27 in the J Crew matchsticks and a 27 in M+O jeans. I like the M&O jeans better because they fit better in the hips and waist IMO. They're not quite as low slung as the matchsticks
To all those looking for the Gap Give & Get coupon - the invitations for that program have not been mailed out yet - they're coming on March 9. I found the same link Marietta posted, but am very hesitant to use it, as it's not verifiable as an actual code, and Gap's codes/promotions tend to be pretty airtight...
I've participated in this program twice, and anticipate getting the code on the 9th - if you're interested in getting a legit invite from me, e-mail or look for the post about it on my blog on the 9th!
Apologies to Alexis and all: This is really OT and appropriate for Monday's weekly exchange, but I won't be able to post from now through Mon. so am posting in advance for the lucky person who wants this! :)
Very gently worn deco dot cardigan in soft seashell, XS, Style #13460. Currently $88; offering $60shipped.
Very gently worn featherweight cashmere cardigan in Slate, XS, Style #11271. Currently $158; Offering $100 shipped.
Two very gently worn tissue painted-stripe tanks, Style #12671B, one in Slate and one in Light Chartreuse. Currently $32.50 each. Offering $14 each shipped.
I won't be able to respond until Monday evening or so (I might get spotty Internet where I'm going), so don't be worry if I dont' respond right away...I will respond to those who email me first to see if you're still interested, then move up the list. :)
I tried on the puff sleeve t at the store. I felt like a linebacker. I'm kind of short, fairly slim but athletic in build. The puffs were huge. Stood way out on me, and the cut was pretty long, too.
So, unless you're tall and skinny, I'd say: they're on sale for a reason.
I was browsing yahoo today and there was an article about how this is the first time oprah has had someone on the cover with her. Anyway the article said Obama is wearing a micheal kors dress and a cardi who's brand I can not remember but it was definitely not Jcrew but it is some cashmere cardi. Does look cute though.
I just ordered the High Heel Flare jeans since they were on sale online... I was wondering how the fit on these go compared to the cords and other jeans... I ordered a 27, I'm hoping that I won't need a 28. I haven't tried jeans from JC before...
For reference, I wear Paper Denim jeans in 27 and they are fine, not tight not baggy. Chip and Pepper I can def do 27 as well. Joe's I can float a bit smaller but those are stretchier..
I DO have an older pair of JCrew jeans a friend gave me (more than five years old for sure) that say size 2 that are fine.
Has anyone reviewed the meringue-sleeve top, particularly for sizing? Any guidance would be tremendously appreciated!
(I, for example, usually wear a 4 in J.Crew tank-esque-tops, sometimes a 2 in the really tent-like ones; but I have broad shoulders, so I'm not sure if I should get a 4 or a 6 in an apparently-shoulder-constricting style like that.)
The majority of people have sized DOWN in the high heel flares. I know I consistently wear a size 8 in all JCrew pants...I had to get a 30 or even a 29 in the high heel flares. All 3 of the different washes all run differently. I tried all 3 on and Wow! very inconsistent!
Good Morning! For those asking about the High Heel Flare Jeans: I wear a size 2 in J.Crew Trouser Jeans and Chinos, and I take a size 27 in the High Heel Flares...all washes, including the white ones.
The Slub-Cotton puff sleeve tee runs large, so definitely size down. :)
Saranagamana - I had ordered the meringue top in my normal size of 0 and had to return it for a 0P. It fits blousy in the midsection and could have gotten away with a 0 but I wanted it a little more fitted. Liz did a review of it a while ago on her blog (JLiz my fave things).
Lauren, I have the puff sleeve T and I was worried about the linebacker effect, too, until I took a few steps back from the mirror. Usually I spend more time looking at myself from the waist up, due to mirror placement in my new house, but when I checked it out full length, with more background behind me, the effect was appreciably lessened. I'm 38D and usually wear L-XL depending on the top and how the girls look in them (I'm also nursing) and I ended up keeping the puff sleeve top. I felt like it looked balanced full length and I have a problem saying no to the slub cotton! I also loved that the sleeves were stretchy. Often with puff sleeve tops, there will be a tight band at the bottom of the sleeve to pronounce the puff, but this top doesn't have that problem. I'll probably get some good wear out of this with either jeans or not too pouffy skirts. HTH
Esther, there really is no fixing the sweater once it gets felted:( Gap has consistently had a problem with this for years, I'm sure they will take it back or let you exchange if you no longer have the receipt.
Anon, I had no idea that this was a recurring issue with the Gap's merino sweaters - thanks for bringing it to my attention. Will definitely bring it back to the store to see what can be done about it.
I don't know I tried the white flare legs. The pockets were pulling across my hips along with barely covering my butt. The SA thought since I wear a 29 in the matchstick cords I could do the same with the flares. No deal! I needed a 30 instead. I'm small but rather hippy so the areas it didn't work made sense I guess. In the end I could not get them in store because the inseams were way too short for my long legs even in a 30. I decided to try the surplus matchstick white jeans instead.
Saranagamana: Regarding the meringue top, one thing to be aware of is that the blouse is not accurately depicted in the website photos. The sleeves in actuality are true cap sleeves, which means there is only fabric sewn to the top half of the arm opening. The bottom half of the arm opening is entirely exposed and fabric-less. Due to this design, there is little constriction from sleeves pulling across the back, etc.
I do find that the "un-anchored" cap sleeves tend to bunch up toward the ceiling with arm movement, giving even more puff to what's already puffy. It's ok, but I would've preferred fully enclosed sleeves that stayed put.
You can size down to reduce bagginess in the chest and waist area, but be prepared to deal with a closer fit across the hips. This is not a short swingy top, even the petite sizes have a bit of length to them. The website photos do depict the fit down the body rather accurately.
Just a little heads up. I was in my local B&M today and many of the tees that are marked down on-line are not marked down in the shop. The SA tried to argue with me that the store price and the on-line price were different, period. I asked her to call and ask if JC will honor the on-line price. Which they did. So if you have the same bit of trouble ask for on-line price.
I am trying to decide what color to get in the rolling ruffles tank. I already bought the natural color but now I'm debating if I should exchange for slate. I'm thinking of wearing with an aqua cardigan but can't decide if crew neck or v neck over the tank would look better.
The same thing happened to me when I asked about honoring the sale price of the website. The SA tried to give some bogus answer about it being different inventory so I coudln't get the sale price of the website. The item was full price in stores and she was said she was going to have to ask her manager. Why do they make it so difficult to honor prices. The CS online make it hard and so the SA at stores.
How about J.Crew just matches up their prices versus retail and direct. And then we wouldnt have to play these games anymore.
It's almost as if they dont want us to shop there.
Anons @ 4:35 pm and 8:34 am: The promotional e-mail plainly stated that the the sale did not extend to its retail and factory stores. The SA is right, the lines of business are separate and JC often prices items differently based on where they are sold. Its been like that for a long time. Sometimes the store will price adjust; sometimes catalog will price adjust. You are not entitled to either, but you may get lucky. Short of that you may just have to play by the rules of the promotion and order on-line.
I agree, however, that this dual pricing strategy seems ridiculous. Though it is can be confusing to the customer, it probably makes some sense on their balance sheet, which is all the shareholders care about. We customers either learn how to cope or move along ... .
Has anyone had any luck with the online price-adjusting? I bought a "Boyfriend" T just a couple days before they went on sale. I know the email fine print says "not applicable to previous purchases" but I wondered if it was possible.

@Josie - e-mail me about the Gap Give & Get program - I think I can help you!
ReplyDeleteO/T How do Martin & Osa jeans fit? When I called they have very few measurements. How do they compare to J Crew sizes? TIA
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 2:42-
ReplyDeleteI think M+O jeans fit very TTS. I have several pairs and do like them. They are comparable to JCrew in style, fit, etc and priced well, IMO.
I am still holding out (with many items in my shopping bag) for a 20% or 30% off code....
ReplyDeleteI am also waiting on a global sale. This sale is just to get sluggish items to sell.
ReplyDeleteAnyone see the new O magazine cover? Michelle Obama is on it and i think she's rockin' the J.Crew cardi!

I'm small but rather hippy so the areas it didn't work made sense I guess. In the end I could not get them in store because the inseams were way too short for my long legs even in a 30.
ReplyDeleteI decided to try the surplus matchstick white jeans instead.
ReplyDeleteI do find that the "un-anchored" cap sleeves tend to bunch up toward the ceiling with arm movement, giving even more puff to what's already puffy.

ReplyDeleteI am trying to decide what color to get in the rolling ruffles tank. I already bought the natural color but now I'm debating if I should exchange for slate. I'm thinking of wearing with an aqua cardigan but can't decide if crew neck or v neck over the tank would look better.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions on color or neckline?
The same thing happened to me when I asked about honoring the sale price of the website. The SA tried to give some bogus answer about it being different inventory so I coudln't get the sale price of the website. The item was full price in stores and she was said she was going to have to ask her manager. Why do they make it so difficult to honor prices. The CS online make it hard and so the SA at stores.
ReplyDeleteHow about J.Crew just matches up their prices versus retail and direct.
ReplyDeleteI agree, however, that this dual pricing strategy seems ridiculous.
