J.Crew Email: Sneak a peek at Jenna's picks for March

"Thanks!" to many of you who let us know about J.Crew's most recent email, which showcases all of Jenna Lyons' picks for the latest catalog. (That image is super long. To see it larger, click here.) ;)

Do you agree or disagree with any of the items selected? What are your thoughts on the color palette? Which items (or colors) did you hope to see?

  1. I love the color palette! So bright and happy looking! I'd choose the belts and the tees at the bottom right hand corner. Everything seems kinda expensive still... ($30 for the cheapest belt?! and $40 for a tee?!) To me, that's expensive! I love how they look but I'm just going to hold off until a markdown or a sale!

  2. The palette is very cute, I'm definitely feeling it for this spring! On another note, this morning I'm really curious whether anyone won anything from the honeymoon game. I tried playing quite a bit but never won anything..

  3. Oh no! Now all my "secrets" are out! I sooo want the merino flutter-trim tunic, the ripple-ruffle tee and the Coralies. And the race will be on. Or will it? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Love the silk paisley heels, and the bathing suit is cute. I won't be buying anything though because I spent waaay too much on final sale items last week!

I don't like the "ripple ruffle" tee; saw these in store yesterday and it looks like a moth-eaten collar. I'm sick of chiffon trim on everything, too. :/

I like greens, yellows and greys. Mint is ok, but, I prefer saturated colors to pastels.

  5. I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Ashely, who every kindly sent me her Gap-BR-Old Navy 30% off bar code! I used it this weekend and got 3 sweaters, which were already on final sale at 7.99, plus the 30% off.
Thanks to all the JCA's for the heads up on the sale!

  6. I have dark brown hair and an olive complexion, so this color palette is not working for me (especially the mint). I love the tea rose color this season, but apparently it's not Jenna's favorite. And the $40 moth-eaten t-shirts are kind of ridiculous in today's economy. I was at Target the other day and they had better slub knit tees for only $10.

  7. OT, but I purchased 4 tees this weekend @ $22.50 each. (Painters Tees). A $22.50 t-shirt, I definitely drank the kool aid, LOL.

But omgosh, I love how they feel and fit. The perfect fit tees were just not loving me this season, and I need some very comfy essentials. I did get 10% off for giving my e-mail address, and I had a credit to use (for returns from 12 months ago! Yay JCrew on accepting 1 year old returns!)

  8. I love the color palette...it works with my dark hair and fair sking well!
The new colors have a little more punch than the first spring catalogue.

  9. should have said in above "it works well with my dark hair and fair skin!" If my Nana could have seen that blub in grammer! smile

  10. The only thing I like is the bracelet but I cannot wear JCrew's and other chunky oversized jewelry due to very small wrists:) So nothing on the pick list for me...

  11. No love for Jenna's favorites from me. I'm blonde and fair and the color palette doesn't work for me at all. I wish they would bring back some brighter colors (not coral or orange either, how about some blues, greens or blue-toned pinks?)

  12. Hi all,

I agree w my fellow JCAs. The shoes are cute & (some) of the colours are flattering. -- I still contend that Halle Berry is one of the only women in the world that could wear that much yellow--- Even so, I think I'd wait for more appropriate pricing.

Also, OT but does anyone else think the Gwen dress, #99367, should be this week's love it or leave it item? With all the beading & feathers & such it looks like something that Laura Bennett from Project Runway would have designed. Pretty on the catwalk (although I'm not into the frou-frou on the top), but not very practical IRL.

I'm sure someone out there would be willing to pay 2k for a dress. But not me. Not even if I won the honeymoon promo, I'd rather spend the $$$ on a new work wardrobe.

    Oh well, back to searching for the perfect summer dress for me :}

    Happy hunting!

    Heather:D

  13. I think the color palette is a nice change from all the brights, and I love it, personally. I think the new rollout will have some bright colors again, though.

  14. I broke down and ordered the Primrose Garden necklace in Natural over the weekend at FP ... any thoughts on it? DOnt know if I will keep it ...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Heather:D,

I love the gwen dress (not the price tag, though!). The feathers I can do without, but I love the mod styling. A while back, I actually made a Polyvore set based on how I would wear it to my *imaginary* wedding. IRL maybe not this exact dress, but I want a modern knee length sheath with retro touches, and yes, I will definitely be rocking the blue tights (I just realized I have 5 pairs of tights in various shades of blue... whoa).

  16. I picked up the Metallic Flower Belt in silver this weekend at my B&M. I had no interest in the belt until I saw it in person. IRL, its a fabulous little piece that is thoughtfully designed. The flower is detachable so the belt can be worn with or without the flower. And the petals have a wire running through them so you can adjust the appearance of the flower.

    ReplyDelete
  17. oops, I don't think my link worked. Let's try that again...

    Gwen dress polyvore set.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I saw the butterfly bracelet last weekend in the store, and it's beautiful but very big. It's so big that I think I might not get it. Pity.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey tastymoog,

    I hadn't considered the Gwen as a wedding dress. That's certainly more fun than the standard bridal fare. Visions of "Four Weddings " & "The Wedding Singer" dancing in my head. Tried to find your polyvore w no luck :{

I can imagine it working for the right person. A sort of mod, gamine, Audrey look. Unfortunately, I'm a bit too curvy to pull it off. That's why I focus more on the 30s & 50s than the 20s or 60s when I shop vintage.

Still, that's what I love about JCrew & this site. There's something stylin' for everyone.

    Thanks for the ideas,

    H:D

  20. OT but has anyone else noticed that the multiple views (side, back, etc.) are disabled for sale items? i don't know if this is a glitch or a permanent change, but i hope they bring this feature back! i think the multiple views are essential for buying online when you can't go into the stores to try things on.

  21. Does anyone own the Ramini Vachetta flat sandals? Are they comfortable at all and do you really like them?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anon 12:52,

I LOVE the primrose garden necklace! I have it in natural and capri. I have the bracelet in capri as well...maybe I overdid it with 3 of the same thing. But I love all of them. :)

I wear my necklaces with a cute top and a cardigan, with pants or jeans. I wear the bracelet with the silk twill pleated halter dress in the champagne color.

The natural was a good choice, bc it will go with any color. I was a little surprised that the natural seemed a little darker than what it appear online. I still love it though!!

  23. @elle: I am so with you! i brought back some perfect fit tees to a store a while back, fully intending to exchange them for other colors, but found the painter tees and swooned! the colors look so much prettier on that type of fabric! the chartreuse? oh my!! they will definitely be summer staples for me!

Re: the "picks"...I am not loving the shoes. I think i may be the only one. The heel box appears chunky. i do love the tunic though. and the colors don't really bother me. i'd prefer more saturated colors, but eh...whatever :)

  24. I think the Gwen dress is a tribute to Bjork.

  25. What is new? This stuff is on-line now.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hmm, peeps anyone? Or am I the only one who thinks this is an Easter pallette?

  28. AppGal, you are not alone.

The shoes are heritage-worthy because you stole them from your grannys closet. Sensible and boring, I don't care what color or print.

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^ and I don't mean "you" personally, AppGal. I mean it in the general sense. Whoever buys them.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I too agree with those people who don't like the shoes. I would never wear them...I would look like a frump, but I'm sure some people could pull them off.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just picked up the boyfriend military jacket - I thought $98 was reasonable, and it'll look great with many of my skirts. Plus, it's washable.

    ReplyDelete
  32. La Belle Helene, did you purchase it in-store? How is the fit, did you have to size up? It looks like a functional piece although a few bloggers have panned it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. ^ I mean did you have to SIZE DOWN?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like the painter tees as well. They are so comfy and don't cling to the wrong places like the perfect fit tees seem to. I am actually wearing the perfect fit mandarin henley right now... just not nearly as flattering as the painter tees!

Has anyone seen the new skirt they have in the B&Ms? It is a pencil skirt, they had an aqua color and a papaya-ish color, and it has a huge bow on the front. It's SO cute, but it's also $110 for a cotton/linen (I think) skirt. Come on JCrew! How overpriced. I want it anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  35. anon, yes, I sized down - I have broad shoulders & am a 34D, so I usually have to size up in jackets because I cannot stand feeling constricted across the shoulders (my test is that I have to be able to throw my hands in the air and shimmy, hee hee), but in this jacket, I sized down.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'd like the Gwen a whole lot more without the front placket - that really borderline ruins it for me. Well, that & the $2,000 tag :-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Em,

I saw that skirt yesterday too, and thought it was so cute, but even size 0 was huge. It went well past my knee. :( Wonder if this is an in-store only offering. I would only buy on sale AND if it came in petites, I'm not trying to spend $100+ on a spring skirt!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hmm. That Gwen dress looks like a recycled design of the wool ruffled dress from winter 2007. Remember that one? Ivory wool same cut with ruffles like the Gwen dress and where the feathers are there were black ruffles.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Em: that skirt with the bow was so adorable!! The aqua was a very refreshing color - I would have liked to see it in a pink or green as well; not that orange/papaya color!! Seriously, JC, how many brigh orange skirts do you think a person needs??

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thank you La Belle Helene. I am interested in the boyfriend military jacket, although it is backordered online. I think this would be a very basic, functional jacket for years to come, especially for travel.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I wholeheartedly agree - the spring offerings are sorely lacking in a great pink. Bring back azalea!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. anon, try the 900 n. michigan ave in chicago for the military jacket if you're willing to do a send - hope you get one :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Boyfriend Military Jacket: I know Stonestown San Francisco got the gray in (they already had green) and it is hard to believe they are gone! I really wanted it but even after I sized down, it was too boxy.....but I still like it. It is not at all shaped, just so you know....

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the mint and lilac, so soft and pretty. I love the chiffon trim, but don't feel like paying close to $40 for a t. I got some great ts at the Gap this w/end. Nothing I have to have, but, its pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  45. amy: You are so right about the papaya. They really need to cut it out with that color in items like skirts... or just in general...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Em--I thought that skirt was cute too. I hope it comes online in petite!!
Isn't this a skirt Michelle Obama wore last fall?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thank you too, Maggie May.

I don't mind that the jacket is boxy. The less fitted it is, the more laying options I will have, which is why I like the idea of this jacket for travel. The flap pockets will be helpful as well. It may look boyish, but that's why it's named "Boyfriend", right? ;-)

  48. I love the light pastel colors. Esp. the various jean belts! Sigh..

On a related note, at my b&m this weekend (Georgetown, Wash., DC.) all full-price shoes were 25% off. Not sure if that applies to all stores but might be worth calling and asking!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree, the patent-leather jeans belts are so cute. I just wonder how the pastels will look with my mostly dark jeans. I've ordered one in the same color as a jackie twinset. Hopefully they will go together and not be too much.

  50. I am smitten with the color palette. Off Topic...but now Lauren Hutton AKA purse hugger J Crew model, is doing Macy's ads. She is pushing the charter club line of cardigans claiming that they are her choice for sweaters. I have seen this ad on numerous occasions in the tri state area.

  51. Those of you with the Melody dress: does it fit TTS?

I am usu. a 4/S in Jcrew tops and a 2/27 in their bottoms (although a 2 in the favorite-fit bootcut cords was too tight in the waist).

Trying to decide between 2 and 4.. I am busty, slim hips.

    Thanks!

    : ) Kendra

  52. I'm loving the new colors! As far as the ripple ruffle tees, I tried them in an XS and they were still too big and I really wasn't a fan of the neckline! They are definitely different and unique, though!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anyone know why jcrewaholics.com is pushing that shop style thing? It's because she gets PAID if we buy stuff through her site. As if it is not enough that she is selling her zebra shirts for DOUBLE!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kendra @ 10:14....

Hi there! I just got the melody dress a few weeks ago and have to say that it is even more adorable in person than online. I'm about 5'9" and busty too, but found that my regular size 10 fits tts. The dress felt a little snug across my bust with a full coverage bra, but when i switched to a demi, it was perfect (go figure!). HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Twister Chick-- thanks so much!! What size do you usu wear in tops & pants? I am bigger on top, so Im not sure what to order-- I haven't tried on JCrew dresses in a while.. in Gap/BR I am usu a 4 (my "top" size).

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  56. While I like the boyfriend military jacket no way would I wear it with skirts. I think jackets need to be a bit more fitted to look appropriate with skirts. I wear jean jackets with mine but they are fitted not oversized like the m.jacket. A few seasons ago (I am an old JCrew junkie person) JCrew made a cute more fitted military jacket. It looks super cute with skirts unlike this season's "mess":)

    ReplyDelete
  57. The military jacket looks great as shown in the lookbook, with that ruffle skirt. I totally see it working with skirts.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hey Kendra,

Happy to help :) I'm pretty proportional, but I don't own many JC tops, I mostly stick with dresses. But from what I've tried on, I usually wear an 8 or 10 on top and a 10 on the bottom (same in Gap). Not sure what the measurements are for the dress but I'm sure CS would be happy to tell you if you give them a call. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am glad you ladies have success in JC dresses. I'm small in the bust/top and larger by about 6 inches in the hips/bottom. I went in to try the Metallic Linen Tie-Front Tank Dress. No luck. 6 was too tight in the bottom and the 8 was too large in the bust. :o(
I guess that is why I have always worn skirts. There are so many JC dresses I would like to wear.
I like a few of Jenna's picks. I like pastels as much as I like bold colors.
