I know it's a free market and all that, but I agree with the others that the mark up is excessive and not in the spirit of this blog. Guess that's why I'm not buying it; maybe someone else will. It's not so much the mark up that bothers me, it's that the profit jcbellemarie wants to make is a big one, more than to cover time, gas, effort, etc. This post started as a way for JCA's to trade and recover what they paid. Now people are making not just a little profit, but a lot off of it. Like I said, I get the whole free market thing. I just think that this blog is not the place for reselling at such a large profit. That's my opinion, and I am entitled to it just like jcbellemarie is entitled to mark up the dress for almost twice what she paid. That's all I'm going to say on the matter, because I don't want this post to get out of control like a lot of the others. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's all irrelevant, anon. People who have said they paid $X for an item...well, we are on the honor system, not like anyone is really asking for receipts for proof of purchase. Don't make it an issue, and it won't be an issue. If you have a problem with it, it's probably best that you don't blog here because no one should feel they should lower their prices (or what they should freely profit from) just because you choose to toss your weight and thoughts around...and keep in mind, no one is making you purchase anything you don't want to...

This is simply an outlet for buyers and sellers.
The Sellers can ask whatever they want for an item. IT IS THEIRS TO SELL!
It doesn't mean that anyone has to pay it, and it doesn't mean its a fair price. If you want the item and it's too much for you: DON'T GET IT OR COMPLAIN THE SELLER IS ASKING TO MUCH!
I would be very happy to see next weeks Exchange be only listing for items for sell or seeking to buy.
Sometimes people offer hard-to-find items and it's their luck or diligence finding the item that maybe warrants a little extra in their pocket. So what. It happens with vintage all the time.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few J.Crew items that I would really like and if someone is able to offer them here I would certainly pay a reasonable price. Especially the items from past seasons as the quality is typically better than the more recent offerings. IMO it's not the same as buying up a bunch of popular new releases in order to sell them for more than the retail price.
The prices charged by J.Crew for new items are not cheap so a new or EUC item that may have been eventually reduced, but wasn't attainable for those that wanted it, may still be worth more than the last-marked-price, but I'd hesitate to pay more than the original retail price. It's really up to the buyer to decide.
When all is said and done, this is the weekly exchange, not the weekly charity.
