A big "thanks!" to Marietta who not only let us know about one of J.Crew's new arrivals being featured in In Style magazine's latest issue, but also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the image itself or here to see it larger.)The jacket is described as "Cotton Sateen" and retails for $155. I was unable to find the jacket on their website. The closest item I found was the Stretch Cotton Sateen Two-Button Jacket (Item 12593; $168), but the price does not match.
Marietta also mentioned that she was "excited to see a jacket that is more waist defining and structured". I could not agree with her more. Bring on the tailored jackets!!! :)
What are your thoughts on the new Cotton Sateen jacket? Do you think J.Crew should introduce more waist defining, tailored fitted jackets this Spring? Or do you prefer the swingy, boxy look for jackets? :)
I think the sateen jacket is OK, but I love that Armani jacket!
ReplyDeleteAlso, they have come out with a cotton sateen skirt that is $69.50. I have seen it in the store and really like the slate color.

The Just Cavalli jacket is what I call a tailored, fitted jacket. Get going JCrew!

I only wear swingy, boxy jackets. I own 17 JCrew jackets from the past 3 years. Tailored jackets that nip in the waist are too restricted for my job and very uncomfortable over all. Hopefully, JCrew will continue to make swingy, boxy jackets.

The Cotton Sateen reminds me what BR had a couple of years ago, they had the jacket, pants and the skirt. Looks like it is coming back in style I should have held onto mine.

ReplyDeleteBoring! The J.Crew one looks like a plain old suit jacket to me. And they are calling it the "un-classic jacket". In what way?
ReplyDeleteI also prefer much more fitted suit jackets. The sleek look provides a lot of confidence. Of course, you have to be able to pull it off and most people can't, often for valid reasons.
ReplyDeleteI have a J.Crew bright pink sateen pencil skirt from several years back. I bought it deeply discounted on FS and totally love it. Because of the sateen finish I usually wear it for parties and it is a wonderful piece, I will be wearing it for years to come. Cotton and machine wash/dryable too.

ReplyDeleteSOOO Boring! I like jackets with unexpected and unique details...I know many people need conservative jackets but those can be found anywhere! So nothing new here!
Also, while I am tall and thin I do not like fitted jackets even though I can carry them off with no problem. I like a little more "give" in my jackets.

ReplyDeleteThis month's issue of Real Simple features the Ringspun Cotton Rosette Tee, and also a pair of flat leather sandals (can't remember which ones, off the top of my head)...
I'm not in love with this look. I just don't like blazers much at all. Even though they are LIGHT YEARS ahead of the blazers of the past, they just remind me too much of that shoulder pad era. They're not really appropriate where I work either, so I much prefer the swingy shape...the kind with ruffles and unique additions :) I do like the sateen fabric though...
ReplyDeleteI like it and am glad it had buttons! That is the only thing that kept me from buying any of the ecole blazers. I'm petite and like having that structure b/c swingy jackets with cropped sleeves make me look about 12 years old. :P

With that said, I also love the boxy swingy jackets. They are great for a business casual workplace and everyday wear.
I'm kinda over the baby doll jacket look, but the sateen jacket is nothing special, IMO, just hohum. wouldn't spend $155 for it.
ReplyDeleteYa, that Armani jacket is lovely, but wearing a long jacket over a poofy skirt would not be flattering on anyone who is not model-sized as it would add layers and bulk on the bottom. Wearing it over a pencil skirt or even a mini would be very nice.
ReplyDeleteThere's been a lot of love for J.Crew jackets, especially the past season's Astrids and Ecoles. The CF Astrid in particular was given a lot of posts, much to the jealous griping of some nasty anon who blasted La Belle Helene.
This jacket is just meh, IMO. And J.Crew, enough with the yellow everything already. It's starting to make me queasy. }:P
Jeff, most women need some room in the arms, especially if you want to wear a blouse or sweater beneath a jacket and be able to drive, lift up your children, etc. We aren't all tiny and we don't all wear camis or tanks beneath our jackets. I'm not being nasty, I'm just saying...

I like this jacket. The subtle detail that makes it great for me is the collar. The notch collar isn't too wide, dramatic or sharp. I love the front pockets and it looks like it creates a nice shape. I like the sateen fabric and will definitely try this. If it

I just tried on this jacket at the 900 N. Michigan J. Crew in Chicago, in both green shown and a dove grey. Man, beautiful on the hanger, ugly on the body. The darts hit right on top of my nipples and the waist does not have a good shape. I LOVE J.Crew jackets and must have 10, but this just did not work. The sales manager actually commented that they were going to have to tell the company about the dart issue, as she tried it on immediately and had the same problem (she is a 2, I am an 8). Bummer. Did buy the Maissey jacket and Aubrey jackets though, way cute on.
