J.Crew's Latest New Arrival {gold vermeil ring}

A big "thanks!" to Marietta who shared with us this image from the February issue of In Style magazine, which features J.Crew's gold vermeil ring with faux gems ($65).

The ring is not yet available on JCrew.com (or maybe I just could not find it), but is a part of the upcoming Spring 2009 collection. Although it looks nice in the magazine, I am just not sure how the ring will look in person. In particular, I am curious how big and how wearable it is. ;)

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's new gold vermeil ring? Have you seen this ring in person at stores already? If so, what are your thoughts? :)

  1. I have a feeling those balls would fall off after a few wear...

  2. I hope my store gets this in...I'd like to see it IRL.

  3. Not a fan of JCrew's jewelry. Looks cheap to me. I would consider their pieces if they actually looked nice for the price.

  4. Oooh it's cute. but probably way too big!

  5. I've been waiting for this ring since I saw my InStyle issue a few weeks ago. I hope it is big!! I love it and usually wear a bold ring everyday (most of the JC). Can't wait to see IRL!

  6. When I first saw this ring I honestly thought, "Are they serious?!" It's something I would expect to see in a child's birthday party loot bag. Ridiculous. J.Crew jewelry is not great IMO. Sometimes the design is OK, even though the materials and construction look cheap. But items like this ring make me think they have "come to work drunk" Thursdays or something. How else can you explain items like this, and the bug pins?

  7. Looks like candy to me. I wouldn't wear it but I'd sure like to eat it!

  8. Love the ring BUT have noticed the gold plating has worn on many of the JCrew pieces I have that get a lot of contact - wear on pieces that have only been worn a few times - I am thinking particularly of the charm bracelets. If you are VERY selective with your choices and hit them at the right time before they sell out of the choice pieces, F21 actually has GREAT buys on jewelry and I don't think the quality is any worse than some of JCrew's costume jewelry. In fact, I've been told by a friend in the business that a lot of the costume jewelry on the market comes from the same factories in China.

  9. It seems to me that the trend for accessories has been sizing bigger and more excessive the past few seasons. The bags, the necklaces, the bracelets, the rings. Usually when that happens it follows a couple of seasons later with an about face to minimalism and small proportions. I can only hope. {:-|

Personally, I do not wear costume jewelry, although I have admired a select few of J.Crew's designs in the past, like the giraffe pearl necklace from last spring/summer. To me, this ring looks gaudy and unbelievably cheap. Even if I had only $65 a season to spend on a piece of jewelry I would save the $65 each season until I could get something decent. Just pass on the plastic junk.

  10. McShoppy, I've seen several posts like yours that testify to the poor quality of J.Crew jewelry. Why people continue to buy stuff that won't last more than a few wearings is a mystery to me. The design is kind of cute, if it didn't look like it would catch on my hair, sweater, coat, etc. I would expect the "faux gems" to be falling off long before the plating is worn.

  11. Yech- more cheesy gold plate that will wear off, & tacky design.
    Big, gaudy, disposable.
What happened to quality & genuine long term wearability? It seems only fools who like to throw their money away buy this crud.
J.Crew jewelry is abysmal- I expected so much better of them!

  12. Not feeling the ring. I'd rather get something under $10 from Forever 21 if it's going to be that "fun" and flashy.

The only J. Crew jewelry I've really drooled over was their double-strand turquoise beaded necklace with the enamel frog. I wish I picked that up when I had the chance!

  13. Contrast the $65 price tag to the $17 cost of the Marc Jacobs ring, which is actually brass so the finish won't flake off, and would give you the same junk-jewelry look.

J.Crew jewelry is extremely overpriced for the cheap schlock it is. No wonder they are trying to grow the jewelry line. The margins are outrageous.

  14. I do not care for this gumball ring but I DO buy many J Crew pieces on sale. I am selective about which I choose based on various things such as quality (as there is a BIG difference even among their own pieces), sale price and wearability. I have found their beaded (yellow glass beads and fireball beaded items) to be great quality and I got them at a huge mark-down. I like the cuffs (purchased @ huge markdown) and have bought every color of the enamel link necklaces as they are a darling pop of color while mixed in with my own 14kt long gold chains and often pearls. I believe I paid an average of $10 for these enamel chains and they have held up very well. I could go on and on--I have many pieces that have not worn of their "gold" and I have had fun with the jewelry. I personally don't care for this ring, though.

  15. JC Jewelry Lover - if you are paying about $10 on average for the jewelry you are buying from JCrew, you are getting good value. Most are not worth much more than that, certainly not this ring. Hideous!

  16. Personally I like JC jewelery. It may be overpriced, but you can often snag it with a nice discount. Yes, they have missed the mark here and there with lame-o bug pins etc. but overall I think their jewelery line is full of unique pieces you don't see everywhere else. To each their own I suppose.

  17. I 2nd, or 3rd, or whatever, the statements about Forever 21 and finding cheaper J Crew-like jewelry designs. I have several pieces that cost me less than $10 that look JUST like J Crew jewelry (quality and all). For costume jewelery, I tend to like the F21 jewelry just as much as J Crew. Banana also carries similar styles, sometimes for less.

Would I still buy jewelry from J Crew if I really liked it? Of course! It just hasn't happened yet....

In this environment, it helps to have a cheap backup.

  18. I don't own any j.crew jewelery but I do like a lot of it and would buy it if it were on a very good sale.

I agree that F21 has some great stuff at great prices as well as Target - I love some of their Merona faux pearl & brooch necklaces they have right now. I also like getting vintage costume jewelery off ebay too.

This ring. . . is not my fav. I probably would not buy it. I have liked a lot of the other rings though.

  19. Actually I was just at the "For Love" store (F21's accessory only store)and saw a ring that looks very similar to this one (different color - same styling). I believe it was only $4.

  20. The ring's kind of cute, but I agree that those balls are going to fall off or be knocked off. I can also see them snagging my sweaters.

  21. I'm not a big fan of this ring. I tend to be more conservative when it comes to jewelry and this ring is a quite a bit of bling! Thank you for posting, though. I always love to see J. Crew items in magazines.

  22. The ring beside J.Crew's reminds me of a painter's paint palate. :)

  23. I hate to say it, but looks kind of tacky to me. Normally I'd wait to see it in person to pass judgement, but honestly, not a huge fan...

  24. Even the sale prices on JCrew jewelry are not good in my opinion...still to high for the poor quality or costume jewelry! NO thanks.

  25. The article is about "best gifts under $100". If someone gave me that ring as a gift, I would have something for them and it would not be sweet.

  26. Sorry but I looked at the F21 offerings online and I saw nothing that interested me at all...

  27. One word, "goofy".

  28. I love JCrew's clothes, but their jewelry in my opinion just keeps getting gaudier and tackier! When will it become classy?

  29. Very awesome!!! When I seek for this I found this website at the top of all blogs in search engine. شراء الذهب
