J.Crew Email: All Cardis Are Not Created Equal...

J.Crew sent an email promoting the long cardi and featuring the Merino Michelle V-Neck Cardigan (Item 11659; $88.00).

They are also reminding us about their final sale (click here). Even though their additional 20% off promotion ended yesterday (refer here), I am hoping J.Crew will have another promo soon. :)

What are your thoughts on the Merino Michelle V-Neck Cardigan? Do you own or have you tried this on? If so, please share with us your review! :) Incidentally, when do you think J.Crew will offer another promotion? Also, what kind of promo do you think it will be (e.g. free shipping on a certain minimum, another additional percent off)? ;)

  1. I can't tell much difference between this and the Portland, which is a real bargain right now. Wider trim. . .larger buttons. . . that's about it, right?

  2. I have this cardi in melon and putty...I love it!! It is very lightweight...great for spring and summer. Right now I am wearing them with jeans and when it gets warmer I plan to wear them with shorts, skirts, and dresses. So cute! I definitely recommend them!

Sizing info: I am usually an xs/s...I went with the xs on this one because I wanted a more fitted look to balance out the long length of the cardi (btw, I don't think this one is quite as long as the featherweight merino glass button cardi from fall which I also own)

  3. I am holding off for an online 30% off. 20% just didn't do it for me...esp. when you have to pay shipping...so what?

So, JCrew, please throw us poor online shoppers a bone. (no store near me) I would love to get 30% off the dregs of the fall/winter line.

  4. I believe it will be another percentage off. I was in a B&M yesterday at the Grove in LA and the spring items were hardly touched. Its been 80 degrees here so I would bet we will see a percentage off. Also if anyone is wondering about the Kya camisole the keyhole is very deep. Probably why there was a ton in every size and every color at the Grove. Beautiful fabric. Shame.

  5. I felt this item in the store and the material is SO thin that I just refuse to pay $88 for it.

  6. As a short girl, I don't like the look of long tops on me. That's why I've been buying the lea cardigan - it's the perfect length. It also looks good with the cherie cami.

  7. Prefer the Portland to the Michelle. In addition to smaller buttons and placket, I found the Portland to be more fitted through the body and has a tighter weave. Very soft and surprisingly warm.

  8. I like this cardigan a lot and own it in white. I prefer it a little to the Portland because of the extra detail(ribbing at the bottom of the body and sleeves,) but have three of the Portland because they were at a great deal, so I used gift certificate money to buy them. I think they both will transition well to spring and perhaps even summer while indoors in the A/C.

  9. Those of you who have this cardi and the Portland, can you comment on the "itch factor"? I can't stand any itch at all so if it feels like cotton, I would like to order one or two. If it has even a hint of itch to it, I'll never be able to wear it.

    TIA

  10. Oh the irony... not all cardigans are "not created equal" on MLK Day.

  11. I'll have to try this on the next time I'm in the store. I usually opt for the shorter cardigans like the Jackie or Melanie, and only have one longer cardigan which I purchased at Target before the holidays. I do like the look of the longer cardis, though. :)

  12. anon @ 2:48-I do not find the michelle itchy at all...it is very soft and does have a cotton like feel you were talking about...I can't comment on the portland because I don't own it...but I prefer the michelle's larger buttons and ribbed detail...hth!

  13. The only thing I don't like about the Michelle is that it shows every bump and bulge in the shirt and pants you are wearing underneath. It is best unbuttoned for that reason. Otherwise it is a very nice cardigan.

  15. Anyone know how the Jackie cashmere cardigan fits? Does it fit like the cotton Jackies?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't find my Portland itchy at all, or my Lea, and I'm quite sensitive to itchy wool.

    ReplyDelete
  17. the cotton jackies have a lot of stretch that the cashmere jackies do not...I would recommend going with your true size rather than sizing up as many have recommended in the jackie

  18. himmiefan:

I wear the same size in both. However, I would say the cashmere version is slightly less fitted.

  19. ITA w/ Anon 12:28, 20% off when yu pay shipping,is not that great of a deal. I bought some fab dresses at Banana, IMO, they do dresses way better than JCrew.

  20. I really hate the look of these long cardi's on me. I'm petite and I just think it makes me look squatty. I do love the colors they come in. I'm glad to see that there are so many people that like this look.

  21. Similarity between Michelle and Portland reflect how I feel about last season vs. new Spring J.Crew I've seen so far! Very similar to me ... the taupy, pewter, pink, and peachy cardis and camis I was getting on FS for $14 and $21 look the same as the untouched new stuff on the racks for 4X that. If you've seen the Look Book, it will be more of the same later this week.

  22. FYI: I just got an email from my PS that their B&M (Dallas Galleria) will be having a event on the 23rd, 12-6pm, for the new spring line. She didn't really give much detail about the event. I'm hoping for an extra % off.

Maybe other stores will be having events soon?

  23. Had two Michelle's (paid full price when they first appeared in my local store) and I returned them... purchased a Portland in every color because of the price difference and discount online. I found the Michelle's to be toooooo thin for the $$$$$. The Portland has a much better fit (for me), and I feel I can wear them into spring and summer layered with camis. Love the colors in both of these sweaters.

  24. OT, but I just got my silk dupioni skirt in champagne and it is gorgeous and can totally work into spring and summer. Of course it isn't for those who only want skin tight stuff, but if you size down it isn't that "puffy". I am a 4 in the double serge pencil, but a 2 in this skirt (with a little room still left) if that helps anyone!

  25. Anon @ 3:48: BR is the BEST source for dresses of good quality at a decent price (especially now). And they usually have a huge selection.

  26. Well, I was just sent another wrong size. Two weeks ago it was a dress in 12 rather than two, and today it was a blazer in 14 rather than zero. What a pain, considering I have to go to the post office or UPS to drop this off. Is this happening to anyone else, or am I just lucky? :)

  27. just a heads up...daymion mardel's site has a few pics from the lookbook in high resolution for those who weren't able to see one of the lookbooks in person

  28. Is the Bright Fuschia Portland a hot pink or a more muted fuschia? It looks muted on my PC, maybe it's just me.

    TIA

  29. I saved over $160 with 20% off and the shipping was $23. I think that was a great deal, much better than free shipping.

  30. TO: Anon @10:22

My Portland is BRIGHT fuschia/deep pink...not offensive at all. If that makes sense to you. Color is great now and will look really terrific with a tan. I'm really happy with all the colors offered in this sweater and I love the fit. Much better buy than the Michelle. Hopefully they won't fade after hand-washing.

  31. alyssa,

glenbrae's are awesome. I have the high heel in maple and LOVE them. They are rather narrow though so make sure to ask measurements so you can get them on/off if you go with the ones without a zipper.

I also tried on the flat glenbraes (grey suede) and they didn't look so hot on -- I prefer slouchier instead of a right angle -- I thought it made me look like I was wearing fins/flippers and I don't think my feet are that large at a sz6!

hope this helps. they are super comfy.

  32. Thanks Foxeee! I love vibrant pink, subtle colors are not for me.

  33. Janet, I hope the third time is a charm! What a hassle.

  34. I agree with anon @ 423 ... I don't like long cardigans on me because I feel like they make me look even shorter. :) I definitely like shorter-cut cardigans.

  35. I have a question regarding the jackie cardigan as a follow up to what Anonymous said on 1/19/09 "...
the cotton jackies have a lot of stretch that the cashmere jackies do not...I would recommend going with your true size rather than sizing up as many have recommended in the jackie." What do you mean by size up? In other words, go one size bigger? I am usually a small/medium. I had one of these from the Fall in a Medium, and it seems a bit baggy around the waist. I just ordered more, but in size small, and now they seem too snug around the arms and chest. Does anyone have any recommendations for how the jackie cardigan should fit? Thanks!

  36. I actually bought both the Portland and Michelle in the green shade. I think I prefer the feel along of the Michelle due to its slightly heavier weight. I sized up double time so that I could belt it and layer. I actually got the Portland in my exact size.
