  1. Can anyone do a review of the cashmere 3/4 blouson sleeve sweater on the eva?

I am considering these, but am still concerned about the sizing/cashmere quality.

I am 5'4" and 122#, so I really appreciate reviews from anyone who is a boarderline petite.

    Thanks!

  2. wonder why JC doesn't just do the free ship like all other reasonable retailers?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yes, free ship would be heavenly right now...all I want for CHristmas right now is a couple of little things...but will find them elsewhere if they don't offer free ship; no minimum soon!

One of those codes has to be out there somewhere!

  4. Yes, as a matter of fact I can resist. It's not hard at all! No thanks JCrew. No thanks to mixed up orders, checking my credit card for charges/credits and getting my hopes up only to be let down by not receiving what I ordered anyway because your virtual merchandise is not really available at your virtual store.
    Merry Christmas!

  5. kitsmommy: I purchased the Eva sweater (in a few sizes and colors, to test out) during the TURKEY promo, and I was a bit disappointed. I really, really wanted to love the sweater, but I just didn't. I found that the neckline sat higher on me than it does on the model - I was expecting it to be a little lower, and more open, but it was actually pretty close to the neck. I found the little crystal detail at the neckline to be pretty cheap looking - they would have been better off doing a rhinestone sort of button (like a tiny version of the buttons on the Soiree sweater) to add a little sparkle, because the crystals they used just look kind of junky, instead of adding a fun touch. I found the quality of the cashmere to be consistent with their other cashmere sweaters - very soft, warm, and comfortable. Since I returned the sweater, I can't say anything about whether or not it pilled. I found that it ran pretty true to size. I am 5'2", 145, and I took a medium (which is normal for me). It's a touch on the boxy side, but not terribly so. I loved the dark peony color, but the spearmint was not as soft and pretty in real life as it looked online.

If you want any further info, just ask! I am also interested in hearing about the blouson sleeve sweater...

  6. Does anyone have any idea how the Perfect Patent Pumps run? My Lulu metallic peeptoes ran 1/2 a size small on me, and I'm wondering if all J. Crew shoes are now like that...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Perfect, Christina! Thanks for the info. I was interested in the turquoise and spearmint in the Eva, so you have cured me of that.

I find that most of their sweaters just look so different in person than on the models.

By the way, if anyone is on the fence about the Maggie Jacket, I received it on Tuesday and am wearing it today. I ordered the nickel and it is fantastic! Great quality fabric and very well made.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sorry to hear about the EVA sweater but good to know.

I love the light spearmint color. I bought one cashmere classic cardigan in it and like the color so much I bought the same color in the boyfriends style (in case they pill or one gets ruined) I am considering the same color in another style sweater b/c I love it so much.

Hate to admit it but it reminds me of the 80's mint that I LOVED so much in high school!

  9. I will have to wait for a big sale on the Maggie; too pricey for me right now after buying the Astrid in 4 different styles!

  10. I think i bought the last Striped 120s Kensington shirt yesterday! I went to go check them out again today and they've been removed from the site! I'm glad i didn't wait like i did with the Elizabeth Halter!
Also i hope i accutally got a shirt and i don't get wait listed!!

  11. Right to resist: I agree with you 100%. It's very easy to resist this offer. It is not so appealling to me. Throw in free shipping and I'll consider ordering, but for now I am shopping strictly at my B&M.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Free shipping would win over a lot of us right now. Even Ralph Lauren offered free shipping with additional 30% off as well as others. I recently made a purchase with JCrew and wanted to add another item to the order. I called in the next day and was told by reps that I would have to pay new shipping charges. I did not place the order.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Happy shopping, all! Stopped in the B&M at Madison Ave. last night, they had a promo for 20% off all full priced sweaters (excluding cashmere), which worked great with the 25% off card.

Also, Ann Taylor: 25% off your entire purchase in store and online, plus free shipping on orders over $100. Use code 25More.

  15. What a great blog....I just used the GIFTS discount, confident in my purchase of a stadium cloth-coat (and a few other goodies). I hope I like the Marie as much in person as online! Thanks, all.

  17. I have purchased so much during the turkey sale and then replacing some of my lost items that ended up turning up, I am done for awhile. I received great compensation from CS it was almost worth the trouble.

Let us know how that order goes--I am curious if things are straightened out. This offer would no way make me spend more though 20% is absolutely NOTHING IMO add to that my fiasco! I will be hitting stores if I go at all.

  19. I am still dealing with mine, the order I placed on 11/25 is MIA.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi:
Have any of you ordered the Cashmere chunky cable sweater? I am thinking about ordering it, specially now since it dropped $250 in price (with the GIFTS promo code). Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ana Patricia-I would guess it won't pill like the other cashmeres due to its weight/texture but no firsthand experience with that one. Fit looks tricky--if you get it-please review:)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm really pleased to see J.Crew put another offer on their site, and completely agree with others that the shipping should absolutely be FREE at this point! Especially with all the shipping issues they've had lately...

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also purchased the Eva in spearmint. I didnt mind the neckline or the crystals, but I found the sweater significantly boxy. I am usually a S/4 in JC, but the S was very boxy (and i am a 34C/D). I think my chest bpushed out, so that it looked like a tunic...So I am awaiting an XS which should arrive today. I will let you know how it is. I really love the color, and find the neckline and crystals cute.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Does anyone have info on the fit of the dream open neck sweater? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Does anyone know who the short puffer jacket fits? I ordered it in XS and am waiting for it to come - I am 5''1 and petite.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The offer is EASY to resist: The only way I will order between now and Dec. 24 would be free shipping AND and an extra % off all merchandise.....

    ReplyDelete
  27. Kendra-tell me about that cashmere tie neck. what color did you get, how's it fit? looks smaller-no? Is it thick and nice--luv that but wonder about real life.

  28. Has anyone bought the Jamie bag during this sale?
The other day I called every B&M in Manhattan, and nobody had it in burnt sienna. The website only had the dark cloud and honey glaze (although now I see they have added it) so I called the catalog.
At that time, the 30% was still going on and the burnt sienna was listed as $300 so I ended up paying around $240 incl tax and shipping.
NOW the bag is listed at $349, so I'm very glad I bought it when I did.
It's still a great deal if anyone has been looking for this bag, I know I have been coveting it since August!! I can't wait to get it!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Call me greedy, but having bought A LOT of stuff over the past month during B&M sales at 30% and 40%, this current 20% off promo is not enticing. I have a 25% coupon, but I am still waiting to see if they will offer 40% promos again. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Marietta: Did the Madison Ave store give you your 25% card back? I've only used mine at Rockefeller Ctr and they let me re-use it. I'd like to stop Madison as well as Columbus Circle since different stores have different items and sizes. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've been really curious about the fit of the cherie tops that they currently have. I love the sparkly one, but wish I could try it on / see it in a store first! I think the neckline looks beautiful on the model, but worry it won't look as good on me. :) If anyone has tried it on, I would appreciate your thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hmm...can someone please explain to me what makes the merino michelle cardigan different than the 3243897 other long cardigans? :/ I'm not so thrilled with the new arrivals.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Melanie, I wondered about the Cherie camis as well - I'd be willing to bet that they're HUGE, just like all the other camie. I did see the "metallic ball" one at a B&M in NYC and the material was kind of stretchy, which I was not expecting. It definitely didn't look like it was worth $228 or whatever it's going for online. I'm intrigued by the other varieties, but of COURSE they're online/.com only!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can and I will resist JCrew. 20% is just not worth the on-line hastles. Throw in free shipping and maybe I'd think about it.

I will my hitting my store this weekend because I have to return the screw-ups from my TURKEY order. Unless I find some unbelievable deals in-store, I'm done with JCrew for a while. I guess I'm still to angry from this recent fiasco...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why do we have to *pay* for such a horrible shipping? missing & sending wrong items... J.Crew shipping doesn't worth a penny! J.Crew: Don't charge us for such a horrible shpping if you cann't deliver correctly!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Re: cherie cami, i ordered the golden roses one but ended up returning it b/c there was too much yellow in the print for me. However I thought the neckline was nice; not too over the top. The fit is definitely on the blouse-y side, but probably not as voluminous as the elizabeth or the lydia. However, it also has a stiff side zip which sticks out oddly if you tuck in the shirt--same issue there was with the hammered silk tank.

I may purchase one of the polka dot ones but I will have to plan to wear it not tucked in.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks, Cass! Man, they really need to stop with those side zippers, especially when they're not really necessary due to the volume of the top.

I ordered the Cecelia dress to wear to my sister's wedding, and it has a (IMHO, completely unnecessary) side zipper, and where the zipper ends there's a bump, that just happens to be at the widest part of my hips! The fabric is kind of bunched around the zipper, and I'm wondering if it can be fixed because it's a great dress otherwise - but you would think that these issues would be addressed before the mass-production stage. Also, any picture of the Cecelia I've seen, online or catalog, has the model standing kind of sideways with their arm obscuring their right hip. Hmmmm.....!

  38. 20% off that amount barely covers s/h, no?

not being a brat, just saying.. it's not much of a discount, just the mathematical equivalent of free shipping.

  40. Is anyone else having problems with JCrew not answering emails? I have not gotten a reply to my last 3 emails...sent on Wed. and Thurs.

JCrew really makes me mad sometimes...will they ever get their act together? I hope I am not the only one....

  41. I just got another sale order (and it was all in the box, yay!) and have to comment on the swim suit I received. I ordered the solid perfect cross back tank in chocolate and am pretty impressed. It's double layered (black under layer), fits better than most fashion swimwear (though I sized down from my usually size 6 or s-m tops to a 4), and looks great! I never tried their swim wear for fear of low quality and high price, boy was I wrong. Let's just hope it holds up in the water and sun.

What a great time to try their swim wear too, since most suits are running at $20/pop! I will definitely order more in the future, even at full price.

  42. question: anyone else feel awkward/terrible when they go to a b&m to do returns?? esp when its one item from like 5 different orders??? am dreading going tomorrow :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anon at 3:32: I had to send two messages to customer service before I received an answer. I presume they are just swamped.

FYI for anyone who relinquished their 25% discount card: I sent an email to JC asking if anything could be done for those people who gave up the card. It appears that the card is meant to be used multiple times. I had my receipt from when I used the 25% discount card code number is there on receipt from the scan.

In any case, here was their response:

"We regret to inform you that we are unable to send another discount card
to you at this time. You may use the coupon number from your receipt to
make additional purchases with the 25% discount. Should any questions
arise while you are making your in-store purchase, a retail associate
may contact our customer service department for clarification. Thank you
    for choosing J.Crew. "

So I'm thinking at this point, if the card was used before, they *are* doing some sort of check on use...

But if any aficionada/aficionado has kept a used receipt, it may be worth trying the number again!

  44. Anon @3:25: I don't think the SA's are at all surprised with the amount of returns they receive from online shoppers...they are very aware of sizing being all over the place, as well as the colors not being the same online as in person. One of the manager's at my B&M even commented that they need to change the lighting for the online photos so that the color reads more true to life, and that the store gets numerous returns due to the color discrepancies, as well as sizing problems. I know it can feel awkward...but you are the customer, and if your purchase isn't right, you have every right to return it without feeling bad. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Melanie-

Re. the cherie cami. I have the golden roses version and the collar does look the same in person as it does on the model. The fit is a bit looser than most of their other camis, but it looks great both by itself and with a cardigan. I am definitely planning to buy at least one of the new ones because of how great my first one turned out.

  46. bug pin:

Do you mean the cashmere eva or the dream tie-neck? The eva is very soft, not esp thick, but not extremely thin either. Boxy: the arms fit fine (although a little roomy as well), but the body of the sweater was very wide. I am trying a size down.

The dream tie-neck is wonderful. I got it in snow--the wool/cashmere blend is extremely soft, thick, and warm (although I have a feeling it will pill fairly easily). The fit is TTS.

    HTH!

  47. Anon at 3:25- yes, I really hate it, and sometimes I mail things back just for that reason! I have had problems mailing things back, though, so I try to take them back to the store now...good luck, it will be over fast. ;)

  49. I dread making my returns tomorrow also. Not so much that I'm terrible doing so. I've never had to return so many things at one time until now. I live in NYC and a couple of items are bulky especially with the coat and a couple of sweaters. It's a hassle just to get everything to the store.

  51. LOVE the golden roses cami--zipper hasn't been a problem for me either. I did go down to a zero where I have worn 2 in all the other blouses and it didn't effect underarms being too tight or shoulder, chest-beautiful piece!

I have not had any problems with getting responses to emails -- usually get response within 1 or 2 days at most. Make sure you use "contactus@jcew.com" instead of "jcrew@jcrew.com". I once used the latter and never received a reply.

  53. Tina M: I love J Crew swimsuits ... some top styles are not all that flattering for me (as I don't have a lot up there to being with) but I've been very happy with the quality and look of J. Crew's swim suits!

Amy: What kind of issues did you have with mailing in returns? A long turn-around time? I mailed a big box with a bunch of stuff about a week ago, so I'm just wondering. I did it with the USPS return label provided in one of my orders and wrote down the tracking number ... I figure it will take at least 9 business days for the box to even reach J. Crew!! Then god knows what will happen once it gets there and has to be processed!!! With everything that's been going on lately, this just makes me nervous... now I wish I would have been a brave soldier and gone to the B&M with my returns!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. anon:@ 3:25 p.m. Yes! I hate doing returns from the website. They hate taking them too. I go to the Palm Beach Gardens store and they are soooo not friendly, even when purchasing. Sometimes I just bite the bullet and pay for return shipping, don't like the looks I get.

that is one thing that has not gone down in quality. I have been buying 2 suits a year from JCrew since 2003. I have only had one defective suit in all that time...however, I did have one suit that I ordered two times that was missing the detachable strap both times! Their suits hold up pretty well and fit me great...bikini's and one pieces.....

I have to return on average about 1 out of every 3 items I order. I always go to the B&M- there are 5 w/in 25 mins of each other so I am lucky- b/c it is so much quicker for me. There is one particular store that is super snotty to me every time I return something there. My BF asks why I go there to do a return if this is always the case and I just say that unless it is final sale I am entitled to return the item in new condition w/ tag and receipt and I really don't care what they think of me as a customer. I paid for the item and it didn't work out and know I am bringing it back so that maybe it might work for someone else. It’s so hard to order things online or from the catalog and expect it to work out 100% of the time so I really wouldn’t be ashamed of returning something. As a matter of fact I have to returm 3 items from 3 different orders at some point this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am sure many of you will agree with me (esp anon at 4:34), that considering that many of JC's loveliest items are catalog/online only, they should waive the shipping costs on those items! It seems to me (and I sure to many others) that this is purely a money making scheme.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hi all, J. Crew associate here :)
Concerning returns, I would say that about 1/3 of all the transactions I do at the register are returns. Sure, we'd rather you were buying something, but if you end up not buying something cause you're worried about getting an attitude when you return it, that's no good either! It's just ridiculous for associates to be snotty to you. I return plenty of stuff (although to be honest I've started sending it back to the catalogue because I'm embarrassed by the amount of stuff on my receipts, and don't want all my coworkers knowing what an addict I am!) If you want to speed things along, though, especially with items from multiple orders/big orders, I recommend marking the items on the receipt, as well as making sure everything is paired with the right receipt. I always appreciate it a lot when customers do that. And, while I can promise I will always do your returns with a smile, if you want to avoid exasperated associates you can always try going at a quieter time. A lot of people come in to do returns first thing in the morning, which is nice for everyone cause there is no line for them, and no huffy people waiting behind them glaring at us, since the direct returns do take a little bit of time. But of course that's not always convenient and really you should feel comfortable bringing in your returns any time!

Sorry for the long post, and happy shopping everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I have to say that the SAs at the University Village store in Seattle are always very nice about web-order returns. Of course, I usually spend more than I get in credit! It can take the credit a very long time to show up on your account if you mail them back, but it gets entered right away if you return in person.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have no problem returning stuff I ordered online, to the B&M. If they give me attitude, I just go ahead and give it right back.

I returned a skirt that I ordered online, to the Beachwood OH store (I know to of the SAs who work there from school and they are both awesome and very sweet) and the SA I got was so rude. I returned the skirt, then wanted to buy 2 marcellas, and I asked her to make sure of the price (it was marked $39.99 but I knew it was $19.99 online), and she acted like it was a HUGE hassle. Then when she came back from calling or whatever (she went away to do this, which I also found weird) she just looked at me and said, "So, do you want the top?" She didn't even say what the price was or anything first, just said that in the rudest sounding way possible. Ugh. I will never go in the middle of the day again just to avoid this woman. She even acted like she was doing me a favor by giving me the student discount on top of the 20%. I don't think so!

Sorry... but I hate it when this happens. Do they not realize I could just go shop at another store?

    ReplyDelete
  64. FFM - OT: LOVE what you did with the herringbone metallic Clea jacket! Beautiful outfits. Do you own that Clea personally? If so, can you comment on fit and is the metallic bright or is it more subtle? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anon associate --- I appreciate your comments, and your pledge to take returns with a smile. I think thats wonderful. I used to work at j. crew and I couldn't believe the way some of my coworkers acted to people returning items. It was more important for them to make their goals for the day, then to be nice to the customers no matter if they were returning or buying (which is what matters most in the long run since happy customers will be more likely to come back).

My managers used to push me to go up to people and talk to them about certain items. I agree with this some of the time but not when the customers would be rude back. Anyways, I miss the discount!! And I hope that more people with be respectful of each other. It goes both ways.

thanks for sharing your experiences, there should be more associates like you.

Ann arbor mi store is full of haughty associates that will make fun of customers when they leave the store.

They were so rude to me and others it disgusted me and I just quit. Fortunately I wasn't in need of the money. I actually prob lost more money working there from my shopping addiction.

    sorry for the long post

  66. Hi Elizabeth in MO! So glad you like the sets! I do not personally own this jacket...the sets were made for an anonymous blogger who requested it the week before last (I am guest blogging on here every other week now, instead of every week). Here is her description of the color:

*Basically the fabric is the same color as the Lucille Orange intermixed with a cream/taupe color which has a slight sheen in certain lights.*

Sorry I can't help on the fit...you could try calling CS for measurements if you have the time. :)

  67. Totally OT - I received an email from J.Crew today that said: Your cancellation request has been processed. The not so funny thing is that I never requested that the item/order be cancelled. It is actually the lydia top that has been on back order since October! Don't know what's going on over there =(

Also, there is a one day 40% off sale at Martin & Osa. Code is 10007451189672893880

  68. I finally received my cashmere blouson-sleeve sweater that I ordered with the TUKEY code (They sent the wrong sweater in the original shipment) and I'm really disappointed. The fit (at least on me) was nothing like it appears in the photos. It runs big and the cut is very frumpy imo and not at all flattering (I'm a curvy d-cup...I think the bell 3-qtr sleeves are a bad mix with a bigger chest).

I also purchased the cashmere heirloom henley and which I was kind of on the fence about (translation: I was waiting to get the bateau to decide which I liked better because I really shouldn't spend the money on both), but now after trying on the blouson bateau I think the heirloom henley is so much cuter. The fit on the henley is leaner and much more flattering.

Just a side note...the blouson came packaged in the normal JCrew plastic bag but when I unfolded it I found "Talbots" tissue paper. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that warehouse to see what exactly is going on there.

  70. To green_dino,

I met this strange situation last week, the desert floral necklace,I ordered it three times, the first time they sent me the wrong necklace, second time, the order has been canceled due to the inventory out of stock, the fact was they still have a huge amount of this necklace, the third time was just like what happened to you, then I gave up the mind to have the necklace.

  71. I hate returning things in the store, even though I've never had a J. Crew associate treat me badly for it. I've had it happen at other stores though, and it's a horrible feeling to be treated like you're screwing over the store -- even though I can count the number of times I've returned items on my fingers. (Even if I'm not sure I like an item, I tend to keep it, because what if I change my mind?!) :)

The few times I have had to return with J. Crew though, I just send it back UPS and stick the tracking number label on the original receipt so I have a way to confirm it made it. It's never taken more than a week to show up on my account.

    ReplyDelete
  72. That is some REALLY, REALLY strange stuff. I mean--I hate to keep making pot-smoking references but honestly--there is something SO TOTALLY WEIRD going on in that shipping dept! These stories are just...beyond CRAZY! Mickey--are you reading this crap!? I hope so--it's disgusting!

  73. no one should feel self conscientious about their rights or needs. i take back gobs and gobs and gobs of stuff all the time to the stores and i don't care what they think of me. i also spend and spend and spend and spend. did i mention spend? there is more spend in there than gobs so, whatever! who cares!

  75. Anon at 7:25, funny you mention the "Talbots" tissue paper. My last order had a ribbon from Ann Taylor! Really...What is going on over there? They are losing loyal customers and I wouldn't be surprised if this will soon lead to the end of JC.

  78. I'm fairly certain the shipping department doesn't check anything anymore. My last box contained a Harlow blouse that was so completely balled up it had about 100 wrinkles in it. Usually I can wear stuff right out of the bag. I'd look like a moron wearing that blouse like it was!

Then again, I suppose I looked like a moron the day I wore my J. Crew whale t-shirt to Starbucks....made it all the way there before realizing I had my shirt on backwards and inside-out. Awesome.

  79. OT: Does anyone have the perfect patent leather flats? I hate to say this, but *perfect* patent leather flats are the worst flats I've ever purchased from J.Crew! They're super cute, but They're not kind to my feet and extremely painful to wear:(((

    ReplyDelete
  80. OT...

Is anyone else not getting any confirmation or shipping emails? A while ago some were landing in my spam folder, but now I don't receive any at all! The only way I can find out if my order went through or was shipped is through checking my account online--anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Silver Lining - You're right about the M&O code. I didn't read the email clearly. The 40% is valid on Sunday, 12/7.

I emailed J.Crew about the cancelled order and have not heard back from them yet. Oh well.

I can't understand why J.Crew items are being shipped in Talbots tissue paper or AT ribbon...

  82. I've shopped at the Ann Arbor, MI store for many years. Maybe they think I am a nut and laugh about me once I leave (because I am a nut and I drag my kids in with me from time to time and I shop online a ton and so I am constantly bringing in arm loads of sizes that did not work out), but I have gotten great service with zero attitude. The current store director is super-friendly and my personal shopper is a gem.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I absolutely hate returning to stores. The associates are always snooty and seem anoyed by it. One girl seems nice, the rest are horrible. I wish I had another Jcrew store to shop. Anyone shop at the Boca Raton store? The Palm Beach store is the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Elizabeth in MO- I'm the one that FFM did the styling for on the Clea Metallic Herringbone. The sheen is very subtle. The jacket overall is quite a pop of color for me, and it's so nice to have all these ideas presented to me to make it more wearable. The sizing is IMO spot on. I got a size 6. I have broad shoulders, and this jacket fits in the shoulders and back like it was made just for me. I have a small waist relative to my shoulders-a strong V shaped upper body. It does come in at the waist, although there's plenty of room in that area-it's not fitted in the waist....it is shaped. Hope that helps!

  86. Most of the SAs at the Boca store are very nice and returns are usually no hassle. I also find PB Gardens a mixed group; a couple I like, others not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  87. As far as I'm concerned, returns are part of any catalog shopping experience. I shop out of the SF store and have never had a bad return--they just do it no problem. If an SA is snotty, complement them on their outfit/hair/jewelry..etc... it works wonders.

    ReplyDelete
  88. FYI-- If anyone missed out on any of the Clea jackets, they have some more in. They have the black ones in a few sizes...80$ with current promotion.

  89. Anonymous @ 8:09P - Martin & Osa is a sister company of American Eagle (AE) Outfitters. Martin & Osa is more expensive and I would say they cater to a slightly older or more sophisticated demographic than AE. AE, imo, is very teenage/college age although I have purchased jeans and other items even though I'm probably not their average customer.

kitchy7 - *lol* That was so funny about the whale shirt!

  92. Anon 8:56 and FFM: Thanks SO much on the info on the Clea! I love this blog for all the helpfulness! Unfortunately, I'm spending more and more $$$ since I've discovered this blog but of course, that's no one's fault but my own! But, I sure do love my clothes! Thanks!

  93. Did anyone else buy the men's shearling gloves (item 10588)? If so, did they smell odd when you got them? I just received mine today and they reek of chemicals. :(

    ReplyDelete
  94. I returned 2 items to the B&M today. However, the look on the SA when I explained why I was returning crewcut leggings coupled with the fact that they weren't even on the receipt was priceless. As soon as I said I got this instead of that, she was like I got it. I also returned my Alessia wild rose mary janes. I couldn't give them the life they deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ah yes, the dreaded returns! I am always returning something!! I live near 2 B&Ms so I sometimes alternate between the two of them. But I always will return my items- nothing I can't stand more than unused clothing in my closet (and wasted $$) The main reason why I do order online is that I know I DON'T have to pay shipping back when I return. I've never had a problem returning things at the store- they are always so nice about it. I had ordered about 7 sweaters recently and 6 of them went back! Then I had to return some crewcuts stuff to a store that didn't sell crewcuts. Oh well. I'd still rather do that then pay shipping back....

    ReplyDelete
  96. And the weirdness continues. I received another email from JCrew today... "your order has shipped." When I scrolled down, it was one of the TURKEY orders that I already received. It also showed the items that have been returned. The tracking number in this email shows the package was delivered on 12/2 so this must be a fluke and not another shipment of the same stuff.

Is anyone else getting emails like this?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I don't have problems with returns, and sometimes I have 10 at a time. I don't do that at superbusy times though, and I usually get something in return. So in some ways it's not much of a loss for J Crew.

I haven't gotten the confirmation email for my last 2 orders placed the last 2 days either. I think something is broken again. For some reason my account online was reset and I can't see orders I had before yesterday.

Oh - their website is down AGAIN.

    ReplyDelete
  98. And the website is back. Very strange...

    ReplyDelete
  99. Did they just update the deal? It says $20% off on orders $125+ on the jcrew.com front page.

  101. chiffon cupcake - you are right! But it doesn't matter, as without free shipping it's still not enticing enough. I think their take rate must not be high enough.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Well I thought I should share some information with you all about two orders I recently received. It has been very frustrating experience to say the least.

One order arrived without the tartine cardigan/size 4 I ordered. Instead I received a Hammered silk camisole/ size 8. I was charged for the tartine camisole.

Second order arrived without two items:Aubrey herringbone jacket/size 4 and Matchstick jean in ultra-dark wash/size 27. They had the nerve to charge me as well.

I called very annoyed and had a refund processed for the items I never received. CS really didn't extend anything extra or special to me for the drama experienced. I was just offered a refund of the shipping charge(I originally used the 30% of coupon) and an offer to do a in store search for the item or a purchase of something comparable for the same price.Unfortunately I wasn't satisfied. If I wanted something similar I would of purchased it originally.

    Some suggestions for J.Crew:

Firstly, I should not be able to order an item if it is unavailable.

Secondly,in the event that something is ordered and turns out to be unavailable, I should be contacted via/phone and/or e-mail and notified. I certainly should not find out the item was unavailable when I open the box upon receipt.

Thirdly,I should never receive a different item from the one I ordered. And I most certainly should never not be charged for items that were never shipped.

I have to be honest J.Crew has really disappointed me with this crap. This is really not the time of year to make this kinds of mistakes with orders.Gladly I have never had this experience prior to this one.

J.Crew really needs to put an end to these computer glitches. They have way too much money...which should translate into resources...for this to be happening. It really is intolerable and embarrassing J.Crew!

Thought I would share...perhaps some other Aficionadas/os are experiencing similar stuff.

    Happy Shopping!

  103. Anon 1:11am

I second you. Discound codes without free shipping are not enticing at all!!! Who are willing to pay for this awful shipping experience? No one.

J.Crew: if you want to charge for expensive shipping fee, please do your job correctly.

I really love them and am thinking about buying another pair in black or trying the Harlow boots. Hope this helps!

  111. Last year when things didn't look so dire economy wise and JCrew wise...we were able to get 20% with no code and then free shipping with a code.

Now, that JCrew has excessive stock on hand and the ecomony is a mess they have actually cut back the discounts...

Yes, there may be more discounts but they are not even as good as last years.

  112. The shipping charges are no deal, but they really aren't that bad compared to some. I placed a JCrew order yesterday for $156 and the shipping was $19. I placed an Eddie Bauer order for my husband with a total of $39 and the shipping charge was $17!!! I live in Canada so charges could be slightly higher, but that EB was riiculous.

I have received the "thank you" email for one of my last two JCrew orders, one placed Dec 3, the other Dec 5. I can see online that the earlier order has shipped, but still no shipping email.

I purchased the Brewster in the dark brown suede.

I'm a 8-1/2 in Clarks, a 9 in JCrew flip flops & espadrilles. I am thin with thin feet but need wide shoes.

I ordered a 9 in the Brewster and with thin socks the heel slides up & down a good bit but the width is just perfect. The Brewster fits a little snugger with thicker socks but the boot still slips up and down on my heel. I can slip one whole finger in between the boot heel and my heel so I think I should've went with an 8-1/2. The suede is nice. Overall, as a boot I like them. As for what I'm looking for, I think I would like them more as a taller boot shaft to wear with pants. (I'm not sure I like the height of the shaft with pants. I am going to try them on today with my boot-cut cords, I don't have skinny cords yet, and see how they look.)

I also tried the Glenbrae flat boots in a 9 and am returning these boots. I don't like the style of the foot. I like the sole of the Brewster much better as it is more substantial under the footbed. I also think I dislike the Glenbrae because I ordered them in Sandstone color and I don't like the color of the leather at all. I have a pair waitlisted in Camel so I'll have to see when I get them. Hope this helps you make a decision.

  120. anon at 6:58, I don't where you get your information, but you're misinformed. The final sale has been lifted, but there's no Jan. 1 deadline for returns on sale items - it's the standard 60 days.

  121. I bought the Boucle Astrid in charcoal online, went to the WC store to try on the berry colour one & needed to get the size 6, bec. size 4 was a little tight in the bust w/ hook/eye closed. It is so cute, very Chanel looking. Think it will be cute w/ jeans/shirt, like in the catalogue ~ does anyone have this jacket (it is the one w/ droopy flower)??

  122. Eddie Bauer's free shipping promos do not apply to Canadian shipping. I have called and emailed after each promo and they tell me that they want to offer free shipping to Canada, but they cannot make it work because UPS collects the duty and import taxes. Read the fine print, it always says US orders only.

At least when JCrew offers free shipping, it is free. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Does anyone have the Astrid boucle in charcoal? #10293

Can you comment on the fit? Does it fit as it appears on the site?

Looking at the avocado colour, the bottom hems do not line up in the photo, and the hook and eye are done up. Maybe this is another item with no quality control. I would appreciate some feedback if anyone can share. TIA

  124. anon and green dino: I placed an order on Tuesday, never received a shipping confirmation but got the package yesterday. 126. Re; the warehouse.

My husband and I placed a large order for him with the TURKEY code. What was not wait-listed showed up yesterday. He got several shirts, I believe six. All but two were wrapped in plastic with the pins and paper, and cardboard around the neck, like a regular dress shirt. One was just folded in a plastic bag---and it was the most expensive one. Another was inside out, and, this is the hard part to explain, the top/collar part was shoved through the bottom so it looked like the shirt was expunging itself (hard to describe). When we pulled it out of the plastic it was so balled up, wrinkled, and then we figured out it was inside out. It was a mess. He did not even try it on, he was so irritated. We were laughing so hard at the way it was packaged our two year old kept asking why we were so funny.

I could not believe the way this shirt was packaged. It must have been a return, which I can understand, but I feel the warehouse should at least take the time to put it back in a presentable condition.

    ReplyDelete
  127. BTW - for anyone in the Miami area, J.Crew is opening a store at the Dadeland Mall on Tuesday! This will be so much more convenient than going to Aventura or the factory store in Sunrise. Kind of hard to believe J.Crew doesn't have store in South Beach or Merrick Park already.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Wanted to add we returned the erupting shirt and a few other things from the order last night to the store and for once the SA was very pleasant. He even remembered our daughter's name from past visits. Let's just say the SAs usually seem disappointed when a return comes their way. It has gotten to the point where the attitude is too much for me and I send my husband to do the returns for me, and he is such a sweeties he does it (at both J.Crew and at Anthro).

  129. katieQuinn: I'm also into the Jamie bag. Call them. The website is just inaccurate. I called, and was perplexed that the colors that were unavailable online were actually all in stock. I got the black and the gray cloud - for $192 plus tax a piece. They are on the Fedex truck for delivery right now. Pretty good price. The next day, the prices went up from $300 to $395 for the sienna and black! I've not seen the $349 price. Isn't it $395 now for Sienna and black?

Last week, they cancelled my order but the next day the bag is available again. Go figure! My only concern is that they scratch easily. I may keep both bags or return one. Am eyeing the metallic Jamie too.

  133. Slastena: I absolutely LOVE the matchsticks! I usually wear Trouser and GAP Essential Jeans, but the matchsticks are my new favorites! I purchased both 27 and 28...the 27's fit perfectly, so 28's are going back. One thing I'm concerned with is them stretching out while I wear them, and wonder if I should size down to 26? What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Gigiofca:
Hi, I just got shorter Brewster boots in my reg 8 and they fit perfect. I would not downsize b/c then I would have difficulty with slipping them on and tucking cords in. If you downsize, they will porbably fir fine on foot, but will be too snug around ankle. I am 7 1/2-8,and, yes, there is a little space b/w toe and heel, but that space was eliminated once I put socks on.
Love my acorn color, and guess what, JC just further reduced them; I got the pair when they were $110. Oh, well! Ma be I should get them in Dk brown now.:)

  135. Anyone saw double serge skirt in bronzed ochre in size 2 anywhere (esp NYC)?

    ReplyDelete
  136. FFM;
they do stretch.:( (I did not wash mine yet- I have so many pairs now that I just rotate the colors). From what I heard ( both SA and other Aficonadas)they do not shrink much after washing , so if you would like a snug fit and can function well in 26, then it would be a wise choice. I tried 27- they were great on legs, but way too tight on the waist. I wish they had 27 1/2.:)
I am sticking with 28 and planning to wash them on a super hot cycle, we'll see what happens. Mine are R, so even if they shrink I still be ok on length.

  143. katiequinn & Anon: I'm a lurker here but I just have to post my thoughts on the Jamie. I received the bag (black) yesterday and I love, love, love it! Excellent quality, and worth every penny of the original $495 tag (Like Anon, I paid $190 too!!!!!).

The calfskin is buttery soft, and as far as I can see - simply flawless. Better than my Mulbery Agynes. I would say it's very close to the quality of the leather on my Chloe Heloise. The pleats are so adorable I'm sure the black color will camouflage any future scratches and dings better than the other colors. I think I can get lots of mileage from this bag due to its quality, classic design, size, and color.

The bag's size is perfect. It's actually much larger than what I expected. I know some of you find it too small. It actually has more room than my Coach Large Zoe (flatter silhouette) and has about the same room as the Sabrina (a similar shape but slightly wider and shorter). I can fit in two external hard drives, one large wallet, a pocketbook, a makeup pouch, cellphone, PDA, blackberry and a 3.5 oz of hand cream with lots of room to spare. I think it would take a small bottle of water too.

I also like the shoulder strap. It's functional and I can see myself using it when I'm traveling. The bag looks good too when slung across my body messenger-style. I can do with an extra hand with a toddler. For everyday work use, I'll detach the strap. A strap and a handle seems a popular design these days - you see them a lot in Marc Jacobs, Prada and Miu Miu's latest collections. It's very similar to the Blake from Marc Jacobs but I actually like the Jamie better because the shape is a little less classic. You can't get a decent bag of this quality for $500 these days.

The brass hardware is sturdy, with a nice antique texture and shade. The lining is OK, with some sort of satiny, stripey brown polyester. The zippers do get in the way of the handles' hardware (too close) but may work better after some use. Just need to pull the leather holders apart and they're fine.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. If you're looking at the Jamie, try calling - the website info just doesn't tell what's really available and what's not. Good luck!

  145. Anonymous @ 6:42 AM - Yes, that is very helpful. I am leaning towards getting my true size.

Tigs - Very detailed & very helpful regarding the Brewster. I hear you on the boot shaft. I am hoping ithey look cute with matchstick jeans or cords. I think it might work. Good luck w/the Glenbrae in camel!

caliglam - I thought the Boucle Astrid looked very Chanel-ish as well. Glad to hear you like it. The cut of the astrid...it's like they didn't allow for different breast sizes. Don't you usually take a 4? Sounds like I should try a 6 if I bother.

slastena - You're always so helpful. :-) My true size is 7.5 and I usually take that size, but I like to get an 8 in some boots. And in J Crew shoes I size up in some. Do you think I should get the 8 in the boots? I really want to avoid ordering 2 pair.

  148. SAN FRANCISCO shoppers - If you have a Visa Signature card, you can take advantage of a campaign/promo Visa is having at the Westfield Shopping Centre. I didn't have mine with me, unfortunately. I missed out on a bag check option, which is right outside of JCrew. And when I went back to get my car at 5th & Mission, there were a couple of Visa promo reps validating (!) parking tickets. I don't know it it was for a couple bucks off or the whole cost, but I really wished I had my card. I'll be carrying it with me anytime I am in SF.

Hope this link to the Westfield site works.

To figure out if you're a Signature cardholder, look on your Visa for VISA SIGNATURE in a small font. Mine is shown as white type underneath the card number.

  149. FFM:

I have the Matchstick jeans in size 26, and I am surprised how much they have stretched out on me. When the waist stretched out a lot, I put them in the drier and that helped a little bit, but the legs have also stretched out quite a lot. There is a lot of extra room in the legs on these jeans after the stretch out. I usually wear a 26 in Sevens, and I have found that the Matchstick jeans run a bit bigger than the Sevens do. I wear a 0 in all other J.Crew bottoms, and if you have an inkling that the 27s might be too large if the stretch out a bit, I recommend sizing down to a 26.

  150. Gigiofca:
I had exact same question as you: what to order 7 1/2 or 8? I went with 8 and based on the fit and other reviews it was a wise choice for me. I would have had difficulties getting the boots on in 7 1/2, they are not as loose around the calf as other pull ons.
I have worn them yesterday all day and like them even more now.
We are talking about short Brewsters, right?

  151. I ordered the Oslo bag in champagne. I have wanted it for a while and finally the champagne colour was discounted so I couldn't refuse. With all discounts it was $112, which is a great deal. It may be reduced further but it could also be sold out so I didn't want to wait any longer. It seems like I'm playing a game sometimes, I know I'm not alone. My "BUY" trigger was 1/2 price or less, which I achieved.

I hope it is worth the wait. I wish JCrew would show more views of their bags. It would be helpful to see the inside, back, and also on the model/mannequin, which they do with some bags. I do love the Borge Garveri leather on my other bags, it's just the style details that I would like to see more of online.

I have the Astrid boucle in charcoal and it is a beautiful jacket. I did go up a size as I'm rather busty. With the hook & eye closed the top part still separates slightly, but it looks as if that is the design. It is a classic design and the bracelet sleeves are very feminine. Perfect for showcasing bracelets or an elegant watch.
Caliglam @ 9:11 also posted some info on the Astrid boucle.

  152. So I went and made a few on-line returns including an error from my TURKEY order in-store today. (Background: They sent me the wrong sweater and when I got on the phone to correct it the wait was too long so I got frustrated and just placed another order on-line for the correct item. It turns out that I didn't like the correct item when I finally received it..so I ended up paying shipping on it twice...shame on me for not being patient enough to wait on the phone). The SA in store was pleasant enough but not exactly helpful. I politely explained my situation and he not only didn't offer any type of apology for the error he didn't offer to refund shipping either.

I think JCrew and I are going to take a bit of a break. I have a few words for our friend Mickey...customer service and quality. He can give me a call when he learns the definition of those words...

Does anyone else have the small Oslo? What is your feeling on the bag?

  154. Steph: Thank you so much for the info on the matchsticks...I seem to now be between a 0/2 or 26/27 in J.Crew pants, so it's a tough call on the matchsticks, especially if they will stretch out a lot. I'm going to try them on again and reaccess. Thank you for your help! :)

  155. Can anyone comment on the "Vintage Slim" jeans? I usually wear the bootcut and would like to know how the vintage slim compare (i.e. how "slim" are the legs and where do they sit - close to favorite fit or more city fit or even lower?). My legs are not the skinniest and the word "slim" always scares me! I like the various finishes of the vintage slim and am just curious if anyone owns them! THANKS!

Join the club--you aren't experiencing anything different than most of us--IF that helps you to feel better. Sorry.

I actually have become friends with a CS rep we talk so frequently--I mean many times per day for the last week. That's how messed up they are. I mean to tell you DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING YOU REALLY WANT as there is a VERY, VERY GOOD chance you will NOT get it.

Let me give you the latest frightening example. They offered to sat deliver, ovenight some shirts that had gone missing from my turkey order. My lovely CSR friend had them in her hand (I kid you knot she went and go them and had them on her desk) and between handing them off and the delivery--guess what? One was missing today. Does THAT say anything to you all? I am honestly laughing now when I call her to tell her the next fiasco. Oh and that shirt is now sold out so she has to search the continent for me. Instead of the signing off "Happy Shopping" I am going to say "Good Luck" shopping (if it's at JCrew;)

  159. I'm not swayed by this on-line offer at all, but that 25% off card really is nice to be able to use at the stores. It's working for J.Crew - yesterday I bought a skirt and cashmere sweater because I got the extra 25 off, otherwise I wouldn't have.

  160. My hubby has taught me well....just b/c you have a coupon doesn't mean to buy what you had not already planned to buy...
If he is planning to buy something and he has a coupon by chance great...but having a coupon and buying just to buy...waste of money...Makes a lot of sense.

  161. What is going on with those missing items? That has nothing to do with computer systems. Items were printed on packing slip, just were not put into the package. This is not jcrew's first year to experience a holiday shopping surge. What is wrong this year?

    ReplyDelete
  162. The coupon is great - I've used it to buy some classic items, taking advantage of saving extra $$.

  164. I got the Eliz.halter in the dark pink at Pleasanton for $21 (that store had addl 30% off sale prices) ~ I got the XS, and it is still quite largish. Wish they had the navy, but, for that price, it was a deal. Wonder why this store always has more % off than Walnut Creek?

  165. Bugpin: So sorry to hear about your latest order, Have you sent an email to Mickey, you really should, this really proves there is something wrong at the warehouse. I know how you feel about making friends with CS, it took 2 supervisors to straighten out mine.

  170. Just bought the victoria cami in ivory...but its on the sheer side. I think a cami underneath will do the trick, but I am worried that it will look bulky underneath given the lightness of the fabric...anyone else experience similar problems with the ivory color?

Also, the skinny belts were on sale at my local j crew at 24.99 + 30% of sale + 25 % off coupon...came out to about $13 per belt.

  171. Has anyone noticed if the "c'est la vie" Tee is EVER available on the website? Same with the Blue watercolor skirt??

  173. The rule to avoid mindless purchase at J.Crew

    1. Make wish list (and stick to it)

    2. Stick to monthly budget

    3. Organize closet (to see what I have and not to buy same color and style)

    4. Make journal about spending (I was surprised about how much actually I bought...)

    5. Ask myself "Do I really need this?" before lining up register

    6. Think opportunity cost: Instead of spending on J.Crew now, making CD of $10K would generate $300 in one year.

    7. Try not to buy anything “just because it is deeply discounted”. Most likely I won’t use it.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Very useful rules to avoid mindless spending...

I'd like to add another one I've been trying to stick to...

Only purchase items on sale that you love so much you would have bought at its original price. This prevents us from buying things *only* because they are a good deal or *simply* because they were on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Tina: Keep checking back for the items you want. I was finally able to purchase today 2 of the half dozen or so items that I want that are out of stock.

  177. Is this some kind "Write something obvious on this board" day or smth? Seriously, people, have a little more respect for fellow aficinadas and don't write something completely obvious and declare it "your rules". Nobody cares! We all are intelligent adults responsible for our shopping decisions.

  178. Hi gigiofca!
I got the short brewsters and ended up sizing down a half size from my usual jcrew size. I initially ordered my usual jcrew size -- 8.5 -- which works for me with their ballet flats and heels (although with other brands I am usually 8). But in 8.5 these were way too big, sliding up and down in the back even with thicker socks. I ended up exchanging for 8 and its nearly perfect... I would not go any lower.

  179. While I appreciate and understand the comments about responsible spending and such, I'm not sure this is really the place for such conversations. Personally, if I wanted that sort of advice/conversation, I would spend an afternoon with my financial planner. I come here to discuss and read about JCrew! It's relaxing and fun, something everyone deserves.

I also feel that such comments are very assumptive. When you think about it, none of us really knows anything about one another, other than the fact that we love JCrew clothing, so I don't think it's fair or necessary to assume that we all buy things just because they are on sale or buy things we can't afford. I invest, save, donate, etc and I shouldn't have to feel bad about spending what's left on extras like JCrew clothing.

  180. I have to agree ~ let's face it, none of us really 'need' this stuff, its just fun, and for me, somewhat frivolous, so, I aint gonna do no checklist before i buy it.

  181. anon @12:50. I love your review of the Jamie bag. I have been on the fence for so long, hope it goes down in price soon. Can you tell me how heavy this bag is? I feel my marc jacobs bags can be sooo heavy, without putting anything into it. I vowed not to buy any more heavy hardware bags! Thanks for the great info!

  182. I have the Astrid boucle in charcoal. Although I love the fabric, color and style, I do not think it looks flattering on. The only reason is that it is very wide in the shoulders, and I have broad shoulders. The fabric is very thick and bulky.I think it makes me look much bigger than I really am. I looked at the holiday issue with the Astrid jacket, the model looks less slender as well. I have made a rule. No matter how much I love something, it must love me back! This jacket does not!

    ReplyDelete
  183. I have the boucle Astrid in berry. I also had to size up from my usual size because it was a little snug in the waist. I like their jackets that look cropped in the catalog because they fit me like full-length jackets. It fits me differently than the model on the website. I’m 5’4 petite, and the hem is lower on my hips than the model on the website. The fit is really boxy, and I’m not used to that style, but I think it’s a classic shape. I agree with Anon at 8:29, it makes my shoulders look wide. The flower looked like someone sat on it and the SA said I could steam it. The flower is not as fluffy as it looks on the website.

I am disappointed to hear about the fabric bunching on the Cecelia dress! I bought it to wear to an event on January 20th (wink, wink) and I’m hoping it looks good. Please don't screw up this order J.Crew because I don't have time to look for another dress!

  184. Anon@8.22: Hi! The Jamie's not one of those ultra lightweight bags. In most cases, the quality of a bag can show up somewhat in the weight. I agree that MJ bags can be heavy! I would say the Jamie's somewhere between the MJ Faridah and the Stella or Stam. I'll see if I can find a scale tomorrow to weigh it!

I used the bag tonight for the first time, and am loving it more and more. Didn't use the shoulder strap but the handles stay put pretty well on my shoulders. The tassels are not only pretty but they are very functional and operate the zippers very well. No groping around to find them. I did find a seam in the shoulder strap. Instead of using a long strip of leather to make it, they cut two pieces and joined them. It's not what you would find in high-end bags but I think for the price I paid, no complaints. I think the shoulder strap could be longer. It comes with two positions for adjusting the length. I'm only 5' 5" but I have to adjust the pin collar studs to the max 36 inches if I carry it across my body nicely.

Which color(s) are you eyeing? The website is showing only the Sienna and Honey Glaze, but it's a good idea to call and see what they really have. Safer to get overnight shipping or at least 3-day shipping. When I called yesterday to order the dark cloud, they have close to 100 of the Sienna but that's what they said about the dark cloud. The bag is running out quicker than I expected - although it's not a hit among the J.Crew aficionadas here as I can tell from the reviews.

Sorry this is another long post!

  185. I got the Brewster boots (short) and sized down to a 6.5. I can honestly say that even with thick socks I simply could not get them on without breaking into a sweat. Reordered in a size 7 (my usual size) and the fit was great. :)

I really like both of your ideas and I agree completely. It is fun to read how others avoid overspending...this blog can be for all ideas...b/c sometimes as Aficionada we can go a bit overboard:)and it is good to hear how others cope with it.

  188. Anonymous @ 6:00 PM - I don't have the Victoria in ivory, but I have the piper tank in ivory and it is just a bit sheet. You may be able to wear a bra that looks great underneath and be fine with that. That works for me w/the piper tank. Or you may try one of those camis w/the built in bra. There are so many undergarment options out there these days.

To all who chimed in about the Brewster boots. I ordered them in the dark acorn in a size 8. My feet tend to swell a little in boots, plus w/a sock on I think I will be ok going up a half size. I appreciate the feedback!!

  190. Returning to the discussion about returns...

Reading the posts about this subject made me realize that when return something at the store, I, too, am mortified. The SAs who work in my stores (or in the stores I frequent when I live in the US) are not necessarily snooty, nor do they give me a hard time about making returns.

Then it hit me: I hate making in-store returns because at this point in my J.Crew obsession I only have J.Crew clothing. When I have to make a return, I am wearing J.Crew clothes. While walking through the store all decked out in J.Crew is embarrassing enough, when I make a return I have to engage the SA in conversation. And, the conversation usually starts off with the associate saying: "Aren't those our cords from last spring?" Or, "Oh, I have that top, too." Or, "Those ballet flats go really well with that outfit." And, of course, making a purchase does not require me to admit my J.Crew passion, but a return—framed by receipts that don’t lie—furnishes unquestionable proof that I have a problem.

It’s not making the return I dread, it’s having to confess to my J.Crew mania.

  191. I do not find the charcoal astrid thick, weight adding or any of the comments made by others. I think it is actually a light weight boucle. One must try it on I guess but i think it is very, very cute and like others have said-chanel like. HTH

  192. Anon @ 12:50pm, I agreed with you totally about the Jamie bag. The bag is very well made for the price.

I got the tulip and also ordered the Honey glaze which is on the way to me. I need some advice. Which is more versatile, the Honey Glaze or the Tulip?

For some reasons, I just fell in love with these two colors. The tulip is a beautiful shade of pink that is slightly darker than that shown on the website.

    TIA.

Glad to hear it! I was thinking the same thing...

    ReplyDelete
  194. NancyK - I agree with you about the Jamie bag and the colors. I really dislike pink, but thought the tulip bag was gorgeous in person, same for the honey glaze.

Personally, I think both would be flexible with different outfits. However, I think seasonally you would have better luck with the honey glaze. Sometimes the tulip might be tough in the winter, but that honey glaze is actually pretty neutral (not like some of the honey glaze clothing) and might work better year round. Good luck! I bought the black, but just because I actually needed a new black bag. The timing was perfect!

  195. I placed an order to be shipped to pennsylvania where there is no sales tax on clothes. i noticed i was charged tax for shipping. when i emailed customer service to ask what their policy was on this, and asked why i was charged for shipping i received this in reply

"Looking at your order, you were not charged tax on the clothing. UPS
charges the shipping tax and they generate that charge."

i still think this is weird that tax is being charged on shipping

  196. I heard you can ask jcrew to use usps instead. Not sure whether that will cancel any shipping tax.
