J.Crew Bridesmaid Dresses for Fall and Spring

There is a great site called Brides.com that not only has J.Crew's bridesmaid dress for Fall 2008, but also Spring 2009. There are so many beautiful styles that I can't wait to see them in person! :)

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

Click here to view more of J.Crew's dresses for the upcoming Fall and Spring season. What is great about the Brides.com site is that when you click on an image of the dress, there are additional views of the item. How fantastic!?!

What do you think of the latest styles? If you are a future bride, would you consider using one of the styles for your bridesmaids?

  1. I have always loved J crew's line of bridesmaid dresses. I love the price (compared with other bridesmaid dresses they are inexpensive). I also love some (not all) of their wedding gowns. I especially love the sophia long silk dress and I can see myself wearing it one day. I think the crepe mimi tee shirt gown would look pretty at a more casual winter wedding. Over all I love their weddings line... and you know I will one day have a 100% jcrew wedding!

Thanks for this I will have to go check out the site.

  2. The dresses are really pretty...I would wear some of them not even being a bridesmaid...that should make them more appealing, unlike the bridesmaid dresses I have worn years ago, that I never, ever wore again...it seems as if J.Crew bridesmaid dresses can be worn even after the wedding is over. :)

  3. I agree 100% FFM. In fact i have worn their dresses to parties even when its not a wedding... I love that they are designed that way. I wish they would bring back the jewel tones of last fall though. The berry color and forest green color were gorgeous! And the deep sapphire blue.... oh so pretty

  4. Btw...Alexis, you are making it hard to keep up sometimes with so many new posts each day, especially if I'm gone for the day. ;) It's worth catching up on, though...even if it does mean reading several 100 posts at the end of the day! You are doing a FABULOUS job...still LOVE this blog! Thanks again! :) :) :)

  5. these are really pretty - especially the strapless brown one with the tie at waist and pleated skirt!

blumre - I thought I was going to have a 100% j crew wedding too, but it didn't end up happening! Since the dresses change every season, it's hard to anticipate what will be available in time for your wedding. When we were picking out the bridesmaid dresses for my wedding, they were all very springy so none worked (getting married in early winter) and I didn't want to wait until the fall ones came out in case I didn't like any of those, leaving a last minute scramble!

I wish you could register for gifts on j.crew though! I would much rather have an ecole jacket than a place setting! :)

  6. I thought the J.Crew site was going to be updated today. I was so excited this morning, only to be disappointed. What happened?

  7. I LOVE the J.Crew wedding line! I remember being a bit concerned when it first debuted, but they really have done a marvelous job. The gowns are simple and elegant, tasteful and classic. I can't wait for a J.Crew wedding someday!

  8. To huh?:

Unfortunately, someone purporting to be from J Crew got all our hopes up for nothing, which seems to be case recently with J Crew. I can't even get excited about the J Crew bridesmaid's dresses because I'm not sure when I'll ever feel safe buying from them again.

And just generally, to the group, I almost feel like J Crew reps shouldn't post on this blog, because either they come up with weak excuses that annoy us, or they promise things are getting better and it's not happening. If I were in management at J Crew, I would impose a strict no talking to the media rule, including blogs. That way they can control the flow of information and if a scheduled event doesn't take place, we're none the wiser. And then we'd have less to complain about.

  9. Blumre: I agree that I love their bridesmaid dresses too. I also love love love the Sophia dress!

FabulousFloridaMommy & Blumre & Kat: You both cited the main reason why I love their dresses so much, because they don't look like strictly-bridesmaid dresses and can be worn to many more functions because of their classic designs! :) I know I have been stuck with an expensive bridesmaid dress or two that I can never wear again. ;)

FabulousFloridaMommy: Thank you so much for the nice comment about the blog! I really appreciate knowing. :) I also know what you mean about keeping up with the posts and comments. I sometimes feel like I can't keep up with all the conversations when I am gone for awhile either- but then I think that is a really good thing for me, because it means there is a lot to talk about when I come back. :)

Kater: You came up with a BRILLIANT idea: registering for gifts at J.Crew. LOVE IT! Someone at J.Crew should implement this immediately. I just bought a new home, could you imagine if I could register for housewarming gifts at the Crew! Again, loving the idea!!! ;)

Huh: Laura1 is right that an employee at J.Crew got our hopes up. I don't think he was lying, but clearly the website didn't get updated. I am a bit disappointed about that myself.

  10. i love jcrew's bridesmaid dresses. i totally would have had my bridesmaids wear them if they had been available when i got married...unfortunately they came out a few years later. i would also wear one even now...:) they have great styles that are so not "bridesmady". their prices are very reasonable considering they are so cute and you can actually wear them again.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Alexis: I also have been stuck with the overprice bridesmaid dress. It was given to goodwill, never to be worn by me again! And it was so poorly made some of the bridesmaid's straps kept breaking so we kept running to the bathroom for safety pins (luckily there was a well stocked bathroom.

I have told my future bridesmaids that the dress will probably be black brown or navy and then I will give them a gorgeously colored and beautiful pashmina as a present to wear at the wedding.

  12. alexis: I mentioned this on another post...I think they shortened the Extra20 sale to tomorrow, so that they can upload the Fall Collection without customers still wanting to shop sale. Jennifer said on another post that a CS rep told her the Fall Collection will be online on 7/26, which is now the day AFTER Extra20 ends, as opposed to being 2 days BEFORE it ends...I think J.Crew deliberately changed the expiration date so that there won't be such a conflict between paying full price for new items or an extra20 off of sale items...not to mention that with as messed up as the site is, they might end up with Full price Fall merchandise getting marked down the extra 20...there was definitely method to their madness, and I think it was so the sale doesn't interfere with the new Fall arrivals. :)

  14. ffm: Does your b&m carry crewcuts? My b&m has specials every couple of months where they offer 25% off regular price. I bought my niece some new fall items today and got the 25% plus the 15%. They call me to let me know when the special sales are.

  15. BTW...there is also a Crewcuts Back To School sweepstakes that you are supposed to be able to enter at Crewcuts online, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere...the ad is in the New Fall Catalog, and you can win a $2000 back to school Crewcuts Wardrobe and a Personal Shopper to help put it all together...this would be SO AWESOME for my boys (even though we homeschool...I still like them to look well-dressed)...guess the details won't be available online until the new collection and catalog get uploaded onto the site. I know I will definitely be entering! :)

  16. I've always wondered what would happen if I won one of those contests... would I be able to put the money towards the Womens or Mens line? Or would I have to spend it on kids I dont have?

    ReplyDelete
  17. mathteacher: my store doesn't have Crewcuts...the nearest one is about 3 or 4 hours away in Fort Lauderdale, so I've never been in one...would LOVE to go, though. It would be fantastic to win the contest, although I do like the little girl clothes alot more than the little boys...there is much more variety for them, and some of the little boy stuff borders on just boring, and I can get it cheaper at GAP or TCP. ;) The contest ends in September though, so alot of the Fall Crewcuts collection will be in by then...I like the Fall and Winter collections for the boys better.

  18. I bought the Cotton cady strapless Claudine dress in navy when it was marked down in the final sale, plus 20% off. I don't even have somewhere specific to wear it to right now, but I just really love the cut and thought it is simple enough that it could be worn anytime over the next few years without going out of style. I'm at the age where a lot of my friends are getting married, so I might wear it to the next wedding I attend that I am not a bridesmaid at. Of the new ones pictured, I really love the yellow one, although maybe in a different color.

    ReplyDelete
  19. ffm: I agree with you about the boys clothes. Unless I can get it on sale, I buy for nephew at other stores. But, the girls' items are just so adorable! I rarely pay full price, but with the discounts, I went for it! It will be way too hot here for the cords for a long time, so they might become a Christmas gift. I will definitely be signing up for the contest. Hopefully, one of us on here will win!

I am surprised that your nice big store doesn't carry crewcuts. I wonder how they decide which store gets it? Did you know there are even a few stand alone crewcuts? My sister would go crazy in one of those! :)

  20. In my last post I didn't talk about my experience with a J Crew bridesmaid's dress. I wasn't a bridesmaid, but I ordered one of their dresses last summer for a wedding I was attending. It was an Indian wedding so I had to be modest, and all the women needed to wear green. I got the Sarah Keyhole silk faille dress in green (see link below for picture). It was perfect for the wedding and very well made. It was also a lot of fun to dance in with the full skirt.

    (#5 on this website http://www.kaboodle.com/chic/wedding-season-dresses.html)

I rewore the dress a few weeks ago at an outdoor wedding. To spice things up I added a magenta ribbon sash around the waistline. The sash really broke up the wall of green. What I love about their bridesmaids dresses is the exciting colors they choose. I am a very pale girl, so I try to choose bold colors so that my skin won't looked washed out. I almost bought another J Crew bridesmaids dress a few weeks ago, but I realized that without a free shipping coupon and including tax it would have been $230. Luckily I found a Calvin Klein dress that looked very similar to what I would have purchased from J Crew that was marked down to $80. Score!

  21. mathteacher: I'm not sure why they don't have one in Orlando...wish they did. I did check the Crewcuts store locator for Florida, and I was mistaken...the Crewcuts that I thought was in Fort Lauderdale is actually Palm Beach...could have sworn the SA told me Fort Lauderdale...she said it was the closest, but was mistaken...there is apparently one in Tampa, which is about 100 miles from here. We go over to Tampa and St.Pete a couple times a year, so maybe I will try to get my husband to agree to go the next time we are over there. :)

  22. I love the way the gold strapless one moves... that looks gorgeous on the model. Sadly I think that color could be a hard color for a lot of people to pull off. But in another color... it would be great... really it just looks like it moves beautifully with the model as she walks

    ReplyDelete
  23. FabulousFloridaMommy: I would love to enter the Crewcuts Back to School Sweepstakes. When it is up and running, I will definitely post about it. $2000 is a lot of clothes at the Crew (a lot of clothes that are on sale of course!) ;)

Laura1: The dress you have is beautiful! The color is wonderful as well!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. FabulousFloridaMommy: I also think you might be right about the reason behind changing the sale from ending on Friday instead of Monday. Good call on that one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Blumre: You are so nice to your bridesmaids to offer them such great and versatile colors. They are probably super appreciative. :) I had hoped that the brides I was a bridesmaid for were that kind! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alexis: I wish I didnt spend over 300 on a dress and sash and then have to pay nearly 100 in alterations to have it sit at the bottom of a goodwill bin somewhere... WHAT A WASTE!

really if you are being told you have to wear a dress I think the bride should cover half the cost of the dress at least! Or if you spend as much as I did you shouldn't have to give a present.

Its so expensive when friends get married, its horrendous. I just hope my future bridesmaids are very appreciative that I will NOT be bridezilla.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Blumre: I know what you mean about the cost of the bridesmaid dress. And sometimes you have to buy special shoes and accessories too! That is of course, on TOP of the gift you have to get the couple. It can be very expensive, once you add everything up. :)

Your bridesmaids are lucky already in that they get those great colors (that are totally wearable outside of weddings)!

When I got married, I allowed all the bridesmaids to pick whatever dress (even suit!), whatever maker/designer they wanted, as long as it was black. They could have worn something already in their closet if they wanted to. I just couldn't ask them to spend money on a dress for one-day (really just a couple of hours) when they just graduated from college and needed to pay off those loans! Of course, when it was my turn to be a bridesmaid, they totally went for the "typical" bridesmaid dress that I still have in my closet, worn just once. ;)

  28. Anyone with the fall catalog - I love the look of the Gracie dress! It's simple but with a little flare and I think I could even get away with wearing it not as a bride. :) I find that to be all kinds of positives~

    ReplyDelete
  29. Alexis you were a great bride!!

Oh yea we had shoes on top of it too. It was also about 6 hours from me so we also had to pay for a hotel and everything. In grad school it was so tough to pay for that. I ended up telling the bride I just couldn't pay for a present too and still pay for my classes and rent.

  30. blumre: When I read your comment about the pashmina shawl, my jaw almost dropped! I want chocolate brown bridesmaids dresses, which works 'cause the wedding specialist said they'll keep that year round. And I was planning on giving them a wrap to wear as their bridesmaids gift too! I was even checking out the fall catalog to see if any of the colors fit my wedding scheme!

    ReplyDelete
  31. P.S. Alexis, More brides should be like you. And remember that bridesmaids are friends, not slaves. And brides should be honored to have their close friends stand with them when they get married... torture should not be part of the game

    ReplyDelete
  32. melanie: I agree with you about the Gracie dress...I could easily see that being worn out to dinner at a nice restaurant, or a Christmas or New Year's Eve party, especially if it was in Black. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha Melanie: Thats awesome! Great minds think a like! Obviously you are very fashionable!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Blumre: I can't believe you had to pay for shoes and a hotel room! That really is a lot of money for a young adult to manage.

Blumre & Melanie: I know I am not your bridesmaid, but I think the Pashmina Shawl is a wonderful bridesmaid gift!!! I think that is something, that no matter one's style, will work on everyone! I had a friend who gave those shawls out for Christmas, in all different colors, and it was a big hit! We just loved them. Great idea!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Admittedly she did pay for half my room, but because my boyfriend was staying with me, he was not covered. We also shared the room with another couple who is a friend of ours to keep costs down. I paid for my boyfriend since he came with me as my guest even though he was actually friends with the bride before I met her... it was a big production!

I had another friend who had shoes made for her wedding for her bridesmaids and that was their gift, the shoes were fugly but I thought the idea was cool

    ReplyDelete
  36. P.S. Alexis, thanks! Thats sweet :) I hope it is a big hit when I do it too.

  37. This year is the first year that I've been more than a guest at a wedding. And between showers and bachelorette parties and wedding gifts ... wow. I have spent a lot on my girlfriends this year.

But, on the flip side, because I also moved to CA last year, I missed so many weddings since I was unable to justify flying back. It sucked! Sometimes, I'd have three in a month and then none for three more months. I couldn't justify staying in NC for three weeks or flying back every weekend, even though I wished to go! Sometimes, I give my fiancee a hard time - if he hadn't decided to go to grad school in CA, I could have made it to every one of those weddings!

  38. Slightly off topic, but I know a lot of people have been told to call to get in-store prices that are better than the website prices. I tried to do that via email since I don't have 45 minutes to wait on the phone ;) and here was the response:

    3. The retail stores have special sales that are not ordinarily
available through the online catalog. However, if you are in the retail
store and they are out of a sale item, you can use the red phones in the
store to order the item at the store's sale price. A store associate
should assist you as we need to input his id number and he must verify
    the store price..

    ReplyDelete
  39. Alexis: I think that it pretty awesome of you to do that for your bridesmaids! I'm lucky that the weddings I have been in have had similar views. I wish every bride would realize that!

I also hope my bridesmaids like it too. :)

FFM: Yes, I was thinking that too about the Gracie dress! I was even debating just getting it hemmed, to the length of the bridesmaids dresses, and wearing it after the wedding. I don't know how sentimentally attached I'd feel to it though - maybe I'd want to pass it on to a daughter someday?! Anyway, at least I can wear it again unchanged, unlike the Lucinda ball gown which is beautiful but unlikely to ever be worn again. And the Gracie is a fraction of the price!

    ReplyDelete
  40. melanie: It looks like the Gracie dress is in the slideshow at numbers 10 and 11 in an orange color and also in black. :) What do you think...isn't that it?

    ReplyDelete
  41. melanie: I was looking in the catalog at the Gracie Taffeta Dress...I didn't even realize there is a Gracie Gown, too...it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Excellent choice! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. melanie: the price on the Gracie Gown just really cannot be beat...as for saving it for a daughter...I DID save my dress, but ended up with ALL BOYS, so I personally wouldn't worry too much about that aspect in choosing your gown or on deciding to have it hemmed...you just never know what the future has in store, so live for today! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Blumre: I am impressed the bride paid for part of the room. That must have been expensive for everyone (bride and the bridal party)! I have to say, the idea of custom shoes is a really nice bridal gift. I will have to remember that!

Melanie: The cost of showers, parties, and weddings for one couple totally adds up... and quickly! I also think your bridesmaids will LOVE the pashmina shawls. Really a fantastic idea! :)

Marisa: Interesting response from CS. Thanks for sharing! Too bad the CS didn't offer you a "one time" courtesy arrangement. Hopefully you can still arrange to get your item for the in store sale price.

  44. FYI, not really on topic in this post, but the store on 45th and Madison in NYC had the new fall stuff in today. I tried on some of the cute cardigans they had in the fall catalog, but couldn't bring myself to buy a wool sweater in 85 degree weather.

    ReplyDelete
  45. FFM: Haha, I'm glad we got that cleared up! It seemed like we were talking about two different things and I was getting so confused. :)

Also, isn't it funny the turns life throws at you? I'm sure you wouldn't trade in your three boys for anything though! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. melanie: I'm sure you HAD to be confused! Btw...I actually have 4 boys. :)

  47. Hi there! Is anyone interested in selling me a Sophia long black bridesmaid dress? I am looking for sizes 2, 6, 4, and 8. Thanks much!

  48. Hello all! I am getting married in the end of May and am planning to have j.crew bridesmaids dresses... the only problem is that we are unable to decide on a colour! (or colours, for that matter). Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about oasis green (all of the bridesmaids would use the same colour, and choose any cut they want), but I am terrible at choosing colours, and also I don't know what would go well with this, if we had 4 bridesmaids in 4 different colours. Any ideas or opinions would be great!

    Thanks
