Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Ok everyone. I think I’m going to try my first ever lane order. Seems like a lot of jcas like everyone. I’m in the market for some fresh new sweaters and after looking at a million retailers, everlane has risen to the top of the list. Anything I should know before my first order?

    1. i've been very happy with my everlane orders so far. I'm usually a S/4 in Jcrew with sometimes needing XS/2.

Everlane cashmere crew and V neck sweaters i wear a S. the organic cotton button mockneck also a small. but i tried the oversize alpaca sweater and it was way too large in a small (i know.. oversized but it was just too oversized) so i'm waiting for an XS which I think would be better.

    2. Look at the specific size charts for each item. I find reviews don’t always jive with my experience, especially with sweaters and jackets. For example I ordered a boyfriend blazer at some point and all the reviews said to size down. It didn’t work for me. I typically size up in almost all my sweaters. I loved the Alpaca sweater but found it too itchy. Some of my Everlane sweaters I love so much I bought multiples. They’re not necessarily exciting but I haven’t had the pilling issues I’ve had with madewell and crew sweaters.

People always say to size up in their shoes. I always stay TTS and couldn’t size up. I think I now have almost as many Everlane shoes and boots as jcrew, maybe more, and the only ones I didn’t find comfortable out of the box were the street boots because my heel slips. I’ve walked miles or stood for hours in the day gloves, editor boot, reknit glove boot, day heels, and the tread sneakers and find them all comfortable.

People complain all over social regarding CS but I have found it excellent.
I ordered three pairs of jeans, got them and none worked, returned them the next day via mail and they credited me immediately. If I don’t use the store credit by the time they receive my return they will credit original payment,
I already ordered two white button downs from the sale section.
The authentic stretch high rise skinny jeans fit me perfectly. The regular (not authentic stretch) did not.

      Which sweaters did you like?

  2. Thank you Miss jR and Suz Has for the great info. It’s super helpful. I’m looking at the oversized turtleneck and the square crew neck. Both in cream. And I’d wear both with a white button down underneath (have the madewell central shirt in my cart). It’s weird that I’m crazing so many neutrals right now. You walk into my closet and it’s an explosion of color and pattern. But as of late, all neutrals. I’m going to order these two from everlane and will report back soon (the turtleneck is back ordered until November so may be a while!).

    1. Oh that’s funny, I just ordered the white relaxed air button down to wear under my ivory/bone everlane sweaters. The two I love are not available, they’re a chunky cotton and similar in wool. I’ll look at the courier too!
It seems they haven’t released a bunch of their old sweaters yet. Maybe they won’t. They had a mockneck/turtleneck like the square crew neck I haven’t tried that one but I’m wondering if the length would make it work with the high rise skinny jeans.

  3. Ha, well the turtleneck said backordered until November 1st and just got an email that it shipped today. Yay! Excited to give this a try. Now to get my central shirt order (throwing in a few madewell sweaters to try) to put this outfit together!

    1. I just got the alpaca sweater I mentioned before in an XS. so much better. I really like it (although I can understand it might be itchy for people with more sensitive skin) and it shipped so fast! I only ordered it 3 days ago!! I don't need another sweater but I might consider getting another color.

    2. I really liked the look and fit but yes, for some reason I was oddly sensitive to it and found it itchy even with a long sleeve tee underneath. Enjoy!

  4. I should add, keep an eye on Nordstrom rack. I’ve ordered a few Everlane pieces recently. Today they had jeans I wanted to try not final sale, but on Everlane they were in the final sale section. They have a few random sweaters too.

  5. I bought three pairs of the Loft High Waist Kick Crop Pants ($40 each on sale) and they feel and fit like J.Crew pants. Also available in a curvy fit, unlike J.Crew (aside from jeans). Wish they came in khaki.

  6. For all of you that are leopard, cheetah, zebra and giraffe lovers here Stubbs and Wootton has a variety of Scalamandre print designs on shoes. If you really want to go over the top decorating with wallpaper there are also prints to match.
