This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I have the high waisted black seersucker shorts from last spring and although I like the fit, I haven’t worn them because I don’t know what top to wear. The super high waist and the texture of the seersucker combined make them feel a little “dressier.” I do have light weight popovers in cotton/linen that might work but I have the opposite problem than I usually have because generally I need longer tops and here there’s really not much room to tuck and boxier cropped tops don’t work well on me.
I’m determined to wear these because they’re actually flattering!
I did not get the matching jacket because I have so many black jackets, but now I kind of wish I splurged on it.

  2. If you think you can tuck at all, how about a slim sleeveless shirt like L7236? I have similar ones from BR and they give a crisp, slightly dressed-up vibe. The other thing that occurs to me is a lightweight summer linen sweater, which would drape well if part-tucked and contrast with the more structured shorts.

  3. I would suggest a sleeveless blouse too. Also a mock-neck sleeveless top. Or for cooler weather, a linen or cotton button up. I like tucked if the top is thin and you have room. Also tied at the waist is a more casual option. I've some linen t=shirts that come across dressier than cotton ones that might be nice.

  4. I have a ton of sleeveless shirts but most are poly and get hot, plus the textures don’t work great. I do have a few simple cotton and linen ones I’ll have to try. My usual Madewell tanks didn’t work.
I love that poplin sleeveless but I find they don’t tuck right in that cut.
I have that Jcrew linen laceup sweater in black which I will def try! It’s sort of cropped in front so might work for cooler weather.
I’ll also try my thinner popovers. Maybe they’ll tuck ok.
With the side zip and flat front it’s not as easy as a front zip.

  5. Thanks ladies. I can do a little tuck. Tried a bunch of shirts. It’s really easy to dress these up, harder to dress down, although I tried with a boxy white tee (supima tee) and I could throw on a little bandana and look casual but put together. The proportions are different so it’s really about experimenting. I appreciate the thoughts,
(So silly to ask but I find brainstorming helps)

    1. What are you wearing for shoes?

    2. Depends where I will go! I have lots of light weight sneakers, flat sandals and low heel sandals. Ballerina flats work too, I need to have a few comfortable summer outfits for weekend tournaments, it’s not glamorous at all but often I leave 5am and I’m gone all day or go straight to dinner and hotel, so I like to at least be put together and not just wear gym shorts. Also need to be able to layer.

    3. That sounds good, guess I'd wear sneakers if I was going to be outside all day. But low heel sandals would look great for going out to dinner. If you carry a backpack you can stash sandals and a sweater there. Plus sunblock, bug repellent, band-aids, hand sanitizer, dry shampoo, a hat, water, snacks...your bag shouldn't weigh much more than 50 lbs.

    4. 😂
For tournaments I actually keep a big tote (really big, a giant RH one usually, though I have a wicker one too) filled with my big stainless water bottle, a spare for my kid, sunscreen, snacks (although aside from nuts it’s difficult), a baseball cap and wide brimmed hat, scarf, sweater, several pairs of sunglasses...sometimes we bring a small cooler, plus I have a bleacher seat. Just getting to the field is a workout.
Those mesh tretorns are great because they’re cool. Leather sneakers are too hot in the summer, that’s why I’ve stocked up on several canvas ones.
I also hate when my feet get wet from grass or I have to walk thru dirt/rocks. But sometimes I want to be barefoot!
I just prefer not even thinking much about my summer clothes because of all this, so I try to stick with a simple formula.
And when we stay over I literally rotate the same cute/comfy outfits in my suitcase and keep a makeup basics bag in my car for the whole summer.
When I wake up at 4 an leave at 5, I have my coffee and relax before a long drive, everything is ready to go, and I do simple makeup in the car after I arrive.
It’s literally how I keep my sanity.

    5. Thanks to both of you I just went for it today. (And for once stopped overthinking way too much), I first tried a striped button down but it was too hot, then decided to try the sleeveless open v neck top. It’s very light weight and although I’d prefer a more gauzy material it works ok.

    6. I should add it’s very loose through the body but thin enough to tuck at least in front

  6. ordered gola shoes, received wrong size. odered a replacement with original price. But since the shoes are marked final sale (even though higher than what I paid)my replacement is also final sale.

So this is a new norm. Exchange or replacement order has to obey the current rules even though the older price is matched.

  7. it was not final sale when I originally ordered it.

    1. That doesn’t seem fair. It’s not your fault they sent the wrong size, and the terms of the original sale changed through no wrongdoing of yours. Did you try sending an email to CS?

    3. too much effort to deal with J crew customer service these days. I didnt even bother to argue with them. Good thing I received the new order and it fits.

The other day I try to return some orders I did mock return it gave me 45 days window (the order is from early April beofer policy shift) but J crew customer service insist it is 30 days return. We exchanged emails a few times, 3 different CS representatives involved but everyone said same thing--30-days firm. So if J crew does not have super sales I wont click the button.

  8. Styling the gingham jumpsuit, red lightweight beaded earrings, and Kayu tote from a couple years ago on the blog. Jumpsuit runs TTS. I usually size slightly down in their jumpsuits. I took at 4, for reference.
