Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Hi, everyone

Not a J Crew post, but Eddie Bauer has an extra 60% off clearance items with the cod FEB60. Apparently code is good for 3 days but their small print is kind of unusual because they say they can cancel without notice. Please note that they distinguish between sale items and clearance and as far as I can tell this code does not work for sale items. I haven't shopped at Eddie Bauer in a long long time (no offence intended to Eddie Bauer, but even though I'm a middle aged woman, I find their styling can be a bit dowdy sometimes) but I got a coat for Christmas and while it is not the most stylish thing, it certain is functional and warm. You might want to check out the clearance outerwear for yourself and your loved ones. Some great values after the extra 60%. As far as I can tell none of it is final sale and I think you can return to your local store (but please check before buying if this is important to you).

    2. I don't wear much Eddie Bauer clothing either, but that's where my big down parka, my ski parka, and my leather jacket came from. All from their end of season clearance, and all very good quality.

    3. I wear a lot of EB pieces for sporty/outdoors/active and highly recommend them. Their 60% off prices are generally great value and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Final Sale.

    4. I have outerwear from EB too: a short chartreuse down coat, a light blue rain coat with insulation and an orange spring jacket. Can you tell I love color? I've had them for a few years and they're all well made. I've just discovered that I like their crew socks which are nice and thick and warm, but I agree, their outerwear is really good and now I'll add socks. Other than that, I do think it's dowdy.

Did anyone receive an email from Madewell that they're making their own sneakers? It was a preview. I have sneakers from them but not made by them. The email described how they're supposedly well crafted. Didn't say where they were made though.

    5. I ordered a sweater fleece for Hubs - $22 with free shipping a nice deal.

I got the Madewell sneaker email, but I'm not in the market for sneakers. Not for a couple of years at least, I may have a few too many pairs at the moment ;-)

  3. All right. Let's play keep or toss. (Toss can be donate, sell or give away, depending on value/condition, etc.)

As I was searching through coats to find my daughter's ski gear I fund a coat I forgot about. It's a full length (to the ankle) belted down parka with a real fur trimmed hood by Tommy Hilfiger. Its rare to see this length coat. Should I sell or keep? It's in almost perfect condition. Lots of pockets too. I've been wearing my wintress parka for everyday when it's cold but maybe I'll try this one out and see how it is in the car.

    1. Sounds like a really good candidate for consignment if you are happy with your wintress parka :-)

      Delete
    2. I'd keep that. It's nearly impossible to find full length coats in that style, and if you can find one I dare it to have any style to it. Also, you are a hard size to find well fitting coats. Also, I don't do faux fur so coats with real fur trim get a thumbs up from me always. I apologize in advance if my post offends anyone. Personal opinion.

      Delete
    3. I say keep and see if you wear it...give it to the end of the season and if you don't wear it, donate. I personally love my belted (faux) fur hood puffer - it's too big but I still wear it when it's really cold and I wish it were a little longer. They're so warm and toasty.

      Delete
    4. Fun game. Wear it 1-3 times then decide. Trying to think when I'd want a full length coat... probably only if I were spending a lot of time outdoors in a situation where you are not participating in a sport. If you'd never do that, it's probably a tosser. I'd probably appreciate a coat like that if I were at a winter NFL game or watching a kid's soccer game on a really cold day etc, but I wouldn't wear it as a commuter coat unless my commute had me outdoors for a long time.

      Delete
    5. Thought of another situation - maybe camping? It might be too nice for winter camping, but it also might be like wearing a sleeping bag and that might be nice.

      Delete
    6. Hahah. I think I'll keep it. Will be perfect for early softball games and walks in the reservation. Something similar new would probably cost at least $250 if not more. And it's really flattering, thank you!

      Delete
    7. Post it to your insta! Add the tall boots.

I've been wearing my $31 Mercantile long puffer on walks on Patriot's path. I bet your Hilfiger is even warmer and still light for walking.

      Delete
    8. I tried it on with the Nordic boots. I'll post!

  4. Had a shower thought today y'all might find fun...

If you could get J.Crew to re-release one item from their archives, what would it be? Alternately, what's your "white whale" that you're forever in search of?

    1. YAASSS! I didn't even have to think about this.

I wish they would re-release the merino boyfriend sweatshirt from 2010. I had several of them that were lost to an unfortunate moth/carpet beetle incident (RIP). I was able to find one on ThredUp last year but I think it was washed/dried because it doesn't have the lovely slouch that my other ones had. If anyone has size S's that they want to get rid of, call me!

My white whale: the Gallerista skirt. I've had an eBay alert on this one for five years. If anyone is looking to get rid of a 6, again, call me. ;)

      Delete
    2. ohh... that is a great skirt!

      Delete
    3. Wow I love that skirt, I would buy it in a heartbeat! Jcrew should def re release.

I think I need to put more thought into this but I really love the library print (I only have the umbrella which I still use). Would love to see it again.

      Delete
    4. silver_lining, I LOVE that merino sweater/sweatshirt! My sister does, too. I would add the merino Eden cardigan. Not cropped, but not too long. Perfect over a blouse, tank, tee, basically anything. I have so many colors but would like more. J Crew used to be great at offering basics with some style and in fabulous colors. Now everything is cropped or oddly shaped (my opinion).

      Delete
    5. Hi all - it's such a cute skirt, right? Not too long, not too short, lots of options to pair with the print. It showed up one time in eBay as long as I've been watching it - the seller wanted $75 and it had a big coffee stain on the front. I can't believe I seriously considered it (I mean, stained!) but it disappeared and I haven't seen one since. Factory made a strapless dress in the same print (not my auction), and I was tempted to get it and make a pencil skirt out of the bottom, but I really like the shape of the skirt.

Hi shopalot - I got hopeful for a minute when they did the sweatshirt sweater in camo last year... like, here it comes! I was ready to buy...but the solid colors never emerged. Missed opportunity there, JC! I wish they'd do another merino shape besides the Tippi.

    6. I had the crewcuts version of that boyfriend sweatshirt and got rid of it last year while on vacation in New Zealand (made the mistake of wearing it leaving a geothermal water/mud bath spa. Rotten egg smell could not be washed away and stank up the rest of my luggage). It was super versatile.

Mine would have to be the Library print dress, the Versailles print dress or the dress or skirt (or shoes!) in the hummingbird print.

      Delete
    7. +1 on the library print dress! Kikis in Positano blue and the hummingbird flats. I REALLY think they should do an archival capsule collection.

      I don't think there's anything I missed that I still think about.

    10. @eeps Totally agree! We didn’t know that the Paris collection was the end of an era, it seemed like there was plenty more where that came from.

    11. @eeps - ITA about the Paris catalog.

    12. Agree on the original Cafe Capris. I have 4 pairs left from 2008 or earlier, of those I can still squeeze into 2 of them. I love those patterned ones from 2008, the geo prints and cherry print, so cute for spring. I also long for the patterned cardigans from 2007 and the cashmere, they just don't make it the same. I have also been searching for a Gramercy and Greta Coat in my petite size and would buy it in a second if re-released.

    13. The French hen wool scarf from a few years ago for me! I've been watching eBay for it for a long time, but on the rare occasion it pops up, it's up for auction and the bids go well beyond what I'd be willing to pay for it, unfortunately, or it gets snapped up right away.

  5. Happy Friday!

I would appreciate feedback, both good and bad, of your experiences using Poshmark. Ideally, I'd like to hear more about your experiences as a seller but am also interested to know more about the buyer's perspective.

I am thinking about utilizing the site to eliminate the "joyless" items from my closet. Also, items that have magically shrunk over the years. *shrug*

    TIA!

    1. only bought stuff off posh...

for the most part, i've had some pretty good experiences. only ONE item i've purchased was a dud.. part because it was an impulse and part because i released the funds BEFORE i noticed a tear in the dress. luckily it was only like $30. but everything else has been clean, well packaged, good shape (even new with tags).... mostly skirts and a couple of shirts. i'll never buy sweaters tho.

make sure you have lots of pics and garment measurements! i ignore any listing that doesn't have that.

    3. @CJ I've sold a ton on Poshmark and 99.9% of my experiences were great! Every so often you encounter somebody who has buyer's remorse and opens up a case, but by and large I have found it to be an effective platform where stuff tends to move fast if it is well priced. It is a bit overwhelming at first, but everyone is helpful. If you haven't signed up yet, either me or any other JCAs on Posh can refer you so you can get a $5 credit. Either way, I'm happy to share your listings. My email is bankygirl @ gmail . com in case you have more pointed questions, want a referral link, or want to give me your user name so I can share your listings.
BTW, if any other JCAs have closets, feel free to email me too so I can share your listings as well (and maybe even look in your closets *covers eyes in shame*)

    6. I have alternated between Posh and eBay and have had luck with Posh the last few years. It can be a little slow to get started but if you take the time to take good photos and have good info on the items, there is definitely a market for gently used J.Crew. Blouses are always a fast seller, as are tippi sweaters and jeans (Madewell goes really fast imo too). I've had pretty good luck selling, and you do have to deal with people making low ball offers more than if you were on eBay, but overall I find it easy to use and comparable to eBay. If I have time I will cross post things and it's funny sometimes to see that stuff that will sit on eBay forever sells quickly on Posh and vice versa.

I've found things to be a bit slower now with everyone doing their closet purges but I'm not in a rush so I just have a bin of things I'm selling and I check in occasionally, share to parties, etc. I often start higher with pricing given the 20% to see what will sell and you can entertain offers too. Good luck! I'm @fablifeforever on Posh if you want to add me :)

    7. I’ve been quite happy with my Poshmark selling experiences. The only thing holding me back is my own laziness. I procrastinate on photographing and listing. My buying experiences have been mixed. Like Ebay, there are a lot of resellers on Poshmark who sell stuff they purchased at thrift stores and they don’t always check their items carefully for wear and damage. Some just plain lie about the condition. I’ve had to return several items for undisclosed damage, which is very annoying.

      Delete
    8. I have sold on Posh and bought a few things. The few things I have bought have been great deals. Had a few issues with buyers though but the Posh CS is very good and they can see when someone is not telling the truth and have backed me every time. Great source to find deals and get some money for your good clothing rather than sending it to Goodwill.

  6. So I just called, stores are running most of sale is $19.99 and if you buy three or more sale items you get 30% off. I called online to see what was up with sale and they said they “liquidated” most of their sale (but she had no idea what that actually meant), that they weren’t going to put much sale stuff online anymore, and that they were trying to differentiate between the store and online in terms of sale and promotion. Since they’ve closed a significant number of stores and my store is a two hour drive I have to say this new strategy will really alienate me as a customer.

    1. In my honest opinion, this is a terrible move. We have been saying this is the beginning of the end for a while now, but this *may* be it ladies.

      Delete
    2. wait... what? 19.99 sale section in stores?
Liquidating back stock usually means selling all of it to a third party.
I don't understand this new strategy if it's true. They want fewer online sales to drive people to retail locations if they want discounts? Isn't that the opposite of every other retailer out there? I thought retail strategy is selling online is cheaper due to centralized warehouse/shipping point rather than paying rent/staff at various retail locations with limited space for inventory.

    3. Can anyone confirm this? As in, you've been in a store...

    4. Kristymayn posted it on IG earlier.
She posted a pic from the sign in store.

    5. I can confirm, Suz. Just got back from Lake Forest IL. Smallish sale section is “kill priced” at $19.99 complete with “red lines” through the price tags. If you belong to Rewards and purchase 3 of these items, you receive an extra 30% off. The sale section was mostly tops - tons of velvet tanks, tees, nondescript poly blouses, but there are a few gems. Believe it or not, there were 6 Liberty shirts, 4 pink and 2 blue (which I already have but i bought a pink). Also a few sweaters including the popcorn cable in navy and gray. Also a glen plaid blazer in size 14 - that was weird.

Left w just the Liberty shirt. Such a bizarre promo and the SAs (neither I recognized) were selling it hard, “Would you like to look for a couple more items to get the 30%?” The whole experience was very weird.

      Delete
    6. My guess since there were a significant amount of stores that closed down. The standing stores that are left couldn't fulfill the amount of workload to process and ship online purchases while having to run the store. It probably also take away in store sales and conditions more people to shop online.

Another conspiracy that I have since the release of JCC rewards program that includes free shipping. Is that it's costing the company a lot of money just to ship one sale item or more that has been heavily discounted.

      Delete
    7. That's...interesting. *put confused Britney Spears GIF here*

I'm with you eeps - except when they had all their inventory online they couldn't even come close to meeting the demand of all the sales between Black Friday and the end of January. It sounds like they're overcompensating now. I'd be happy to stop into a store - see the stuff in person, save on return shipping, etc. - but JC, you closed all my local stores.

They keep trying to move away from sales, but it just doesn't work. I bet we'll see another 40% online eventually.

On the subject of liquidating, I saw some more $16.99 flats at my TJMaxx, including the two-tone pointed-toe loafers (H5521). Nothing in the clothing, although they did have a cotton/poly/wool sweater blazer that looked super similar to the Sophie but a different label.

      Delete
    8. Well. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. Last I checked it was minimal and mostly stuff I wouldn't even pay $20 for but I'm gonna run and check it out.

    9. “Liquidating” and “J Crew” in the same sentence just makes me sad.

My store also had some replenished stock, which seemed to be a good sign. It was lots of “basics” - denim (so many jeans) and repeats (Downtown Field Jacket in Mossy Brown - who doesn’t own that at this point?”). Wondering if that reflects the between-seasons time period or a new strategy to offer mostly basic in store, IDK.

      Delete
    10. Thankyou for confirming, ruffles! And there is our Suz, taking one for the team!

    11. I have a return to make and a security tag to get removed from a blouse so I'm hoping to stop in tomorrow. I just texted my SA to see what's up. Sad if that's really the case - while I do like and visit my store occasionally the majority of my shopping is online, and mostly in the sale section. It will be too bad if this I the new normal.

    12. Def bad news for Canada since they’ve closed a lot of stores here. I def shop the sale section online and the cdn prices aren’t even that good normally. I don’t understand the thinking behind this. When things get marked down online what will they do with the items if they don’t want much sale online? Or will they not mark down online items? That doesn’t make sense either. They’ve closed so many stores it will be hard to get to one for many people.
The $19.99 sale section seems to cheapen Jcrew worse than it has been cheapened already.

    14. Just got back. Ithink this is just to clear out store sale stuff. Not everything in sale was 19.99. Polartec amdsome, newer sale items seemed to be the same 50-60 percent offthey were.

Lots of velvet tanks. Holiday shoes, striped buttons downs from previous seasons. A few jeans not much. Tartan scarves, (wool blend, not puffer).
Sweaters j clouding the pompom, some fair isle. The button back on dark gray which I tried but would ball up terribly and not keep its shape.

I did get a few things. I left a lot behind. Tried the tux stripe pants again and even at $20 I didn't take them.

    18. My local store closed in Nov so no $19.99 rack for me. I’m not surprised they liquidated the Playa swimsuit bottoms and random OTS/ruffle tops that were clogging up the Sale items, but surprised they would have liquidated the whole kit and kaboodle. I guess my Stubbs and Wootton loafers are gone for good. I was so close to getting them!

    19. Usually third party brand merch wouldn’t be liquidated - some brands prevent that from diluting their retail price by having a contract clause that stipulates returning unsold merchandise if it doesn’t sell after a certain amount of time.
You’d think it would make more sense for them to push the retail sale stuff to Factory stores, which used to be what real outlets used to sell.

Unfortunately, the alterations work was sloppy, and the resulting skirt was too short and tight. Ended up as an expensive donation to Goodwill. If anyone has this skirt in a 10 or 12 (or a 14 I could alter), let me know, please. :)

    4. Suz, Just wanted to give you and others an update on the Tanti Baci Jackie sweater which yesterday. Runs very short, and the fabric is so heavy it feels like a heavy acrylic winter sweater. The print lettering itself is more muted. Comparing this against the Jackie Floral Navy/Pink K4532 embroidered/beaded sweater the weight differential is unbelievable and looks too "busy". I was hoping it would have worked as I liked the diagonal design. The company could have done better on this one for sure in my humble opinion. It's going back.

    5. Cher, I agree it was slim pickings. I was pretty focused on what I was willing to spend $20 on. The boots were too nice to pass up, everything else I purchased I considered at a higher price
Only pink NB are not "needs" but I know my girls liked them and now I have a pair for each. And black flats. That are cute, dressy and comfortable—can't lose with that combo.

    6. Lynn, sorry to Tanti Baci sweater didn't work. It's cute but I didn't touch the material. Seems that's an issue all over and I put several sweaters back yesterday, and haven't bought a plain off white sweater ANYWHERE because of fabric content.

And I agree we will probably see some resellers stock their stores if they're lucky enough to find more than multi stripe button downs, velvet tanks and scarves which were all on sale for less anyway.

    3. I was thinking the same thing. We know exactly what the resellers’ inventory will consistent of for the foreseeable future. This just cheapens the brand further, unfortuntately. Who buys all that stuff?

There are stores south of me, Boca Raton (the gilded ghetto I call this one) the closest, 30 minutes to be precise if the traffic is lighter, no accidents etc., the rest Ft. Lauderdale, Aventura, Miami Beach, Coral Gables. No way am I going to hop on I-95 South to shop these stores at the moment. It must be absolute chaos. The first store is like walking into a sea of vultures during normal times so I can just imagine what a nightmare it must be with all the snowbirds, tourists here etc. Not risking my life nor the crazy crowds for this sale. Further south I can see swarms of tourists with empty suitcases stuffing whatever they can find to brink back to wherever they came from LOL! Nothing on the website is of interest to me and I am losing optimism as to what may or may not be happening with new items that will be released.

  17. Here's a News Flash for anyone in the area where I am. One of the sales associates at the Nordstrom Palm Beach Gardens, FL store mentioned that they are going to be carrying Jcrew in-store soon. This would be great news as my beloved Jcrew closed last year. (The only items they had would be in-store returns) They already have been carrying some Madewell even though there is a Madewell in this mall for the past couple of years. Will be interesting to see how extensive the representation will be. I hope it will be significant. Tired of doing battle after battle with regard to the posting of credit returns, Nordstrom is fast even when I have shipped items to be returned and items shipped are well packaged and delivered quickly. A little good news here hopefully.

  18. if anyone is ordering JC denim online, here’s a $20 off promo code. it’s for FP denim, no third party brands, sale, usual exclusions: BJHHNN3JX

please let others know if this is used. it’s a one time code.

  19. The Parke blazer in bi-stretch cotton is finally included in a promo (it’s been excluded for months now). Does anyone have an extra % off promo code they’re not using? Assuming it stacks with COFFEE I could actually use it as I’ll be having the jacket shipped within the US.

  20. I finally received the Parke velvet blazer in the rose color from the “ flashening”. It’s very pretty and my larger shirt size fits well. There are a few marks, looks like scratches across the velvet. The scratch type marks aren’t thick but very thin lines in a few places. Not sure if it’s from being folded or being in transit. Does anyone know if such marks can be fixed? Has this happened to anyone who owns this blazer?
I paid $80 cdn which is quite good for cdn and it wasn’t final sale. I don’t think I can find another with the disappeared sale section.

  21. I stopped in this morning to return my grey chateau parka and get the sensor off my poppy blouse. I wasn't in the mood to try stuff on but I did get a few $20 sale items - the hunter green velvet going out blazer and the magenta /pink liberty floral button down. Not bad. There were some dresses I contemplated trying but I think I'm a bit shopped out.

    1. Lucky you! I’ve got the Liberty shirt in my cart right now but I’m not paying $102 CAD for it.

      Delete
    2. Anne, wasn’t the magenta Liberty shirt just too good to pass up at $20? I’m trying to figure out how to style it as it is a different color palette for me.

Shopgrrrl, I’m sorry the prices aren’t the same for Canadian JCAs. I paid almost FP for the blue one and feel kind of bad about it now.

    3. Wow! I went but not everything was redlined - no Liberty shirts or blazers for sure! But I did find embellished fair isle sweater dresses K6159 - a S in charcoal for me, and a M in gold for my stepdaughter. Plus vintage merino fair isle sweaters K4650 - a S in ivory for me, and M in grey for my stepdaughter. And a ludlow dress shirt for my stepson. The sweaters are blends, but for $14 I guess I won't flip if they pill a bit. Oh, I added a perfect fit t-neck, which at $14 is a good not spectacular price, but I do need t-necks, mine are all worn out.

    4. Oh, I returned my Reeds Featherweight Mockneck (the ivory.red.black one). I noticed a pull on the cuff, could have fixed it, but I think there would just be more pulls in the future. It was Final Sale, but with the pull no one argued. So that nearly paid for a dress and a sweater!
I passed on the lace easy pants in black - they fit, but did not flatter me at all. I also passed on the rugby shirts - just not me, I guess. There was a lot of velvet that I'm not interested in. No shoes at all. There were several pairs of the wide leg point sur jeans, which I already have or I would have purchased! Bridgewater, NJ

      Delete
    5. p, liberty shirts were not redlined in Short Hills either, nor were the striped dresses, paperbag striped pants and a few other items that have been on sale for awhile. Tons of rugby shirts in different colors. I previously got the black and white and it's fine. It will serve a purpose, not my fave but a fine spring/summer layer.

      Delete
    6. Funny that we both returned the Reeds mockneck too. Another case of it not being well executed. It really shouldn't be that difficult to make a sweater that fits more than one person and a fabric that doesn't pill or pull before being worn.

      Delete
    7. @Suz Has - thanks for the update, I considered driving to Short Hills but I guess they did the same sale as Bridgewater (except you found shoes!)
The Reeds Mockneck is pretty, but the fit is a bit difficult and with the pull not worth it.
My size 2 camo Foundry pants arrived today. They fit close but not tight at all. They are a little shorter than the green in 4, but I'm quite certain I can let down the hem one turn without having to sew it again. That will give me a valuable inch. I like both fits, and I am sure these will see a lot of wear. It is really your fault, since you said how much you liked them!!!

      Delete
    8. Lol. I'm sure by today the shoes were all gone at Short Hills. There were just a few larger sized yesterday. I did try on a white penny loafer that was maybe a ten.

      Delete
    9. there were several racks of non-redlined items too - the blazer and Liberty were single items. Most of what they had in bulk were velvet tanks, velvet pants and lace pants, sweaters in either large or very small sizes. None of the coats were marked down. No shoes were marked down. I realized after I left that nobody in store said anything about getting a 3rd item to get 30% off.

      Delete
    10. In our store there were racks outside the small sale room that were sale but not redlined. Polartec half zips rang up 69.99 but the full zip was less, if you were lucky you could find some good scores but it wasn't as though everything was being given away.

      Delete
    11. Also our store had nothing in the back stock room, it was all out on the floor. They had sale in the back, but not redline. I’m going to try to run there tomorrow since they left a sensor on, but I may or may not get to it.

      Delete
    12. The 30% off for 3+ items was for rewards members, but it was on the signage. Wonder if you could have signed up for rewards on the spot and then gotten the discount?

      Delete
    13. When I walked in around 3pm the store was basically empty and an assoc told me the extra 30 off was for rewards members OR if you gave them your email. So yes, anyone could get it, but I guess you have to ask!

      Delete
  22. @shopgrrrl the price difference always astounds me, hopefully it'll drop to a more reasonable price.

@ruffles,I couldn't leave it! I love the print but don't wear a lot of button downs. It actually looks awesome with the dark green blazer. I'm thinking of trying it with my rose colored velvet Parke blazer, layered under a pink cashmere Tippi or with a few older boyfriend cardigans I have in varying shades of pink/orchid. I think it could work with olive too or navy.

    1. I’m used to the CAD being weak compared to the USD, it’s been that way for some time now (and I can remember it being worse, in the late 80s/early 90s), but at least J.Crew is consistent with their conversion rates (unlike a few years ago when they started displaying things in CAD and were sometimes wildly off-base in their conversions). I tried to get a Liberty shirt during the Flashening but my size kept selling out. Now that my size is available, there’s no % off sale. They’re lovely shirts, but they’re not $100 shirts, at least for me. Now, if they released a shirt in that gorgeous Artists’ Gallery print we saw on the skirt a few days ago, I think I’d be willing to pony up.

  23. So when y'all said you had bought up coats at $19.99 you forced me into visiting... I scored a Collection silk shirtdress (F4599) and Collection cashmere tunic sweater (J6599). I also grabbed a Ludlow shirt for my husband and the lilac mesh Tretorns. It was some much needed retail therapy and I'm excited with the pieces I added to my closet.

  24. Well my NSF flew out the door as soon I entered the Fifth Ave store today. Their usual sale room was all 19.99 red line, and the regular non-red line sale took up a separate room. Tons of red line shoes - maybe two walls - holiday shoes, penny loafers, lots of glitter and bows and heels. Red line included velvet tanks, tweed dresses, tartan dresses, navy scallop blazers, Point Sur pullovers, some Abigail Borg pullovers and silk tanks/slip skirts, lots of fair isle sweaters, velour hoodies, lace tops, black lace easy pants, not really any Liberty except two dresses. No red line coats.
I left with the pink AB silk skirt so now I have the whole hookup; the Liberty party dress in Betsy Ann floral and the embellished pointed toe jacquard heels, which I had an eye on during the holidays but passed because I didn’t need them. Now they will live in my office for work only wear. The red line room was packed and lots of people in the fitting room and buying, but sizes were really limited to tiny sizes. My friend shopping with me said she didn’t even realize that JC carried XXXS until we kept finding them all over the sale section.
With the 30% off with three red line items, people were buying stuff were saying they grabbed anything for the third because “it’s basically free.”

    1. Cost of quality check and shipping are two reasons I think. I like this kind of in store end of season sale. But I don 't think it is a good idea for them to take so many items off online sale suddenly.

    2. From some of the sale items I've received, I'm not so sure any quality checking is done!

    4. After I received a silk blouse with all the buttons crushed, I asked to have the next one shipped in a box instead of a plastic bag. And it was, which was a good thing. For sure if I order any embellished or delicate garment I'd make the same request again.

  26. Stopped in at my usual store, one of the only two left here in Toronto. They sent out an e-invite for an instore event with 20% off fp purchases, and an appearance/sale by a local visual artist, as a way of promoting the latest arrivals. Not tempted by the new rollout pieces for the most part so far. Sale room was 50% off, but same old same old velvet and buttondowns and tees, and NO redline sale at all here. So looks like another thing we’re missing out on here north of the border. So I spent today’s fun money on chocolate and wine.

  27. I purchased a pair of size 2 Camo Foundry pants on Posh for $22, I do like Poshmark for pants, coats, and blazers. I think these items get less wear than sweaters or tops. I'd probably only buy a sweater if it was NWT. Same goes for shoes, NWT only, since they conform to the wearers foot.

Anyway, as I expected the 2s were a bit short. My olive green 4s work lengthwise because they ride low on my hips. The Foundry pants have a true double hem, so I let out the first fold and ironed them out. That adds an inch with no need to sew a new hem. I think I will let out the hem on my olive green 4s as well, since they are also a bit shorter than I like. They can always be rolled up regardless, but this makes the full length more wearable for my height.

  28. Down here in Saint Barth’s. Found some good use for wearing old Pati de Saint Barth for Jcrew tees and pareos. Remember them back in 2016? There are also some pretty sundresses here. Jcrew should do another collaboration with her. Not missing the Jcrew sales😂although I hope everyone came out a winner.

  29. I’m confused about the hide-and-seek strategy w the sale section. I’ve been stalking the polartec half zip pullover in pink because my mom loves mine and I wanted to get her one for Valentine’s Day. Sold out for weeks when the sale section was 3000 items and 60% off (which is when I bought mine). Today I check and among the slightly larger sale section of 600 items, it’s back in literally a full size run at 119.99, a whopping 6% off full price of $128 for a very wintery item. Where exactly were these hiding? I love my mom but there is no way a fleece pullover is worth that price, and I’m annoyed at the random stockouts and price swings.

    1. That's how much it was in store on Friday as well. They only had black and I would have purchased for my daughter for a fair price, but even sale at $69.99 is too high when every other retailer (aside from name brand outerwear) stores sells them for around $25. I liked it but didn't love it. Wish the pockets were bigger and the bottom was adjustable.

    2. Agree, Suz, there’s nothing special about it and for that price you can get one of the performance brands. I was drawn to the pretty pale pink color, and so was my mom, but I think she is getting Patagonia lol.

      Delete
    3. Ruffles, you could see if they will price match for you (for what you paid for the one you have) or just tell them you want to try it in another size and it’s been out of stock. I’ve had luck with this before.

  35. I’m just picking my outfits for the week and it occurs to me that this weird “19.99 and buy 3” promo was probably pretty successful for J Crew. We are all talking about it, made store visits and incremental purchases we otherwise would not have made, and have FOMO if we didn’t or couldn’t go. Plus they unloaded some shopworn leftovers and returns. It seems kind of tacky and cheapens the brand further, but maybe they hit their goal.

    ReplyDelete

    1. As an "insider" in a way, I know a lot of what was in that 19.99 sale COULD have been purchased for less over the past month. So I'm not sure if it cheapens the brand necessarily, maybe to an outsider? But the sale wasn't loudly publicized outside the store. I did see a few people inside that didn't seem like "regulars" so if nothing else maybe there will be a few new fans.

      Delete
    2. Ruffles - I think you’re right.
I was running errands today and went out of my way to check out the sale ar Rockefeller Center, which is one of my regular JC stores. My errands brought me near Columbus Circle, so I went to the JC there to check out their sale. The CC store is not one of my regular stores, but because of this 19.99 sale I had to check it out. Total FOMO.
I ended up buying three more red lined items: the blue AB slip skirt, the navy embellished Jackie, and a gray pocket T for working out. 3 items came out to $39.xx. I also made a return, so I consider it even. Every store had about the same couple of styles, which made me wonder what was it about those items that they miscalculated so much when it came to production and ordering. Hoping next holiday season, they won’t make so many velvet tops, tartan scarves and smoking slippers!

      Delete
    3. I think you're right, although I didn't have any FOMO because I've seen the sale sections in my nearest store and at another one when I was traveling and they had what I think Mickey Drexler once called their "mistakes". I was jealous of that huge sale room someone described above, but I knew I wouldn't see anything like that if I'd made a store visit. Happy for everyone who got great deals though!

      Delete
    4. If they could fix their rollout schedule they may not end up with as much. I ordered the tartan everyday tote when it was a new arrival on 11/5. It was already backordered to 11/15, but didn't actually ship until 11/28. I didn't receive it until the first week of December, but would've carried it all through November if I had it in hand. I remember thinking that their tartan and velvet items rolled out late - like, the week of Thanksgiving? I already had our holiday outfits lined up by then. Add their Black Friday shipping issues and they ended up with a lot of things that people didn't want by December 24th.

At my store (Pioneer Place, Portland, OR) the SAs were honoring the $19.99 price for the cashmere crewnecks that online are $87.99. (I know there has been some discussion about the quality of the sweaters, but my daughter likes them as they are warm but lightweight). So picked up 2 cashmere sweaters, the Harper Continental wallet in sunwashed pink, a Wallace and Barnes denim shirt and Ludlow shirt for DH. With my bday code and some rewards (that I forgot I had), total came to $48. Not bad! :)
