Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I have to say that the bi-stretch dresses from Banana Republic have really impressed me. I bought two summer versions and liked them so much I just bought the fall sheath with a bit more shoulder coverage. Though some reviewers complain that the dresses are too stiff, I love the weight of the fabric as it smoothes over any lumps and bumps and keeps its shape.

  2. Not really a "J.Crew like retailer," but I've been doing some shopping for older J.Crew styles on Poshmark and Ebay lately and I'm so happy with my finds: a gorgeous Maggie jacket, another herringbone Bella and several brand new Schoolboy blazers. It's amazing how well these styles have aged, even though some are over a decade old.

    2. Glad you picked up the Schoolboy blazers and the jackets. Coats and blazers are an expensive item that some people rarely wear, so you can do well with pre-owned. At the moment I have a tipped hacking jacket on the way...it is longer than the Schoolboy, but still a fitted style, which suits me better than the current 'unstructured' blazers.

    3. I agree. I’ve managed to pick up some NWT items, but even the used ones generally show few signs of wear. If possible, I try to buy directly from the original owners rather than from resellers. I feel like those items tend to be in better condition.

  3. Kind of a vent - madewell sent me a promo code for $100 off $500... I mean, I suppose that’s a nice gesture, but you’re asking me essentially to spend $400. I like madewell and all, but there isn’t $500 worth of stuff I even want! How about a nice 15% or 20% off?

    First world problems, I know.

    1. I received one from J. Crew for $50 off $200 or $100 off $300. So this Madewell sounds a bit steep.

  4. That’s a nice offer you received from jcrew! Yes - I do agree that it’s a bit steep. It’s a nice thought, but I’ll be passing. Now, had it been a promo like the one from jcrew then I may have bought something!

    1. I received nothing, not even a bad offer. I’m feeling very left out.

  5. Talbots has a promo going 30% off in everything. I received the latest catalogue and for a split second I thought how much many of the colors and items look similar to J.Crew. There’s a cute red plaid buffalo check coat. Looks fabulous on the model with leggings and boots. Cashmere sweaters in colors strikingly similar to some of the Old J. Crew colors. Haven’t shopped them since university so unfamiliar with the quality of their clothing.
