Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Talbots has a new rollout. Really cute stuff reminds me of the old Talbots. They are doing it right.

    1. Just got the new catalog and I agree, sega61! There’s a brightness and energy that remind me of old J Crew, too.

J Crew seems to still be afloat today based on a product, aesthetic and image from years ago, and a hope that the company will return to that. I think Talbots has changed for the better over time but is still a victim of its old, dowdy image. Hard to change that, which has propped up J Crew but hurt Talbots.

  2. Placed my first-ever order with Lord and Taylor on Feb 4. Received an order confirmation email on Feb 18, followed by a cancellation notice for the main item I wanted. Items (socks) I added to hit the free shipping threshold shipped on Feb 19. Needless to say, I’ll be reluctant to ever order from them again.

    1. That's crazy! I placed my first order in January for an item that was, priced well (and sold out everywhere else!) and got it fairly quickly.
I don't blame you for being frustrated by that experience. I hope, there's some survey you can fill out. Two weeks for a confirmation email alone is not acceptable.

    2. I sent them an email a few days ago but they’ve yet to respond. Maybe I’ll get a survey after the socks get delivered.

    3. Ha ha, they just emailed me now to sort of apologize (never acknowledged the 2 week delay), and then offered me free shipping if I re-ordered the item. Not sure how I’m going to re-order an item that’s apparently been out of stock for 3 weeks. If they’d actually 1) read the complaint and then 2) respond to it accurately I might have been willing to give them a second chance, but this just makes me think they’re totally clueless.

  3. Lord and Taylor would not let me return an item years ago (with receipts) and I have never shopped with them since. There are too many other options today.
