Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. JCAs...who is shopping the 40% off pre-Black Friday, in-stores this Sunday? I"m considering going. Someone had a question about exclusions. Here's the legalese:

"Not valid on all J.Crew Mercantile, Garments for Good and Madewell styles; all everyday cashmere; all women's beauty items and demi-fine jewelry; select women's bags, Collection items and pants; select men's suits and Wallace & Barnes items; select crewcuts and third-party branded items."

If I'm new to you, hi! I was around when Alexis started the site in 2008. I started my own blog, Gigi's Gone Shopping and was very actively writing (mostly J Crew) reviews until the past year or so. I'm in the middle of re-branding, which I recently shared on Instagram. I created a blog post on GGS with a quick review of the Target faux fur mule (Gucci knockoff) and links to the IG posts. In line at the DMV or USPS today? You now have some reading material. lol

    Hope everyone is doing well!

    Marika aka Gigi

    4. I may stop by but ONLY because J Crew is next to Madewell, and they have a promo then too. I have a feeling the "select items" will be limited. Nothing I want there anyway.

    5. Hi Marika aka Gigi, good luck on your new endeavors!!

Sad cashmere is not included. I hope the lame' skirt will be included.

    6. I would like to go. I attended the pre-shop last year and it was nice to be at the mall without a lot of other shoppers. (I could also pop by Madewell too). However, for some strange reason, my store doesn't seem to have ANY new items in stock - no lace pants, no Up Beat tee nada.

      Delete
    7. I may go. So this means clearance is included in the 40 off..does anyone know for certain? I am not excited at all by J. Crew right now, nothing I want really but I might go.

    8. Marika, wonderful to see you. I’m so happy you will continue to share your light and wisdom in new ways, and wish you and Mini all the best!

(You are so right when you say “we will always have the ‘old’ J Crew.”

Now I am debating the Target k/o Guccis.

    10. Arrgh . . . I wish the demi-fine jewelry was not excluded. I really like those pieces for myself and gifts. This is probably why nothing has sold out in that line yet.

    12. @RN Email promo says 40% off your purchase; sale is not included in the exclusions. Can't be combined with student/teacher and FOJC discounts.

    13. I never get emails from J. Crew any more so thanks for the update! Is the 40% for all stores/all day?

    14. @Marika aka Gigi, it's so nice to see you back on the blog. I always loved your reviews and you've contributed a lot more than reviews to the community through your kindness. You've started many great conversations. Hope you'll stick around :)

  3. I am planning on stopping in tomorrow morning. My SA is doing her own event at the store in addition to Sunday's, same promo, etc. as a thank you to her customers. I have a rewards card to spend and no clue what I might want. I was really hoping for some nice new coats this year and they have been such a let down. I was also disappointed to hear that my store will not get a lot of the new style guide items before Thanksgiving. Not sure what that means for other stores but it means I won't be tempted to brave the mall on Wednesday next week.

    1. Agree about the coats. I got all my new coats at Club Monaco this season. Quality on par or better than the "Old J.Crew" and they have a few nice ones on markdown plus 30% off right now.

    2. Cass the men's coats at Club Monaco are solid choices too. I also highly recommend the men's knit wear. I'm loving their merino and cashmere sweaters.

    3. I agree about the J Crew coats. I need a new short down jacket and there isn't one this year!

  4. Well I've seen everything from the current rollout so no reason for me to spend any time this weekend at the mall. I agree with Anne...too bad they are delaying the holiday clothing so long. I have an Xmas party to go to Dec 2nd and would like to possibly buy something at the Crew for it....but if my store doesn't have it (very possible) then I have to order and hope 1) the item fits and looks good 2) that it actually arrives in time. Or I might just not worry about it and go looking at some other store. There is a cute pair of plaid pants at Talbots I'm eyeing.

    1. IMO they waited too long to release their holiday items. I like to wear my tartans and other festive items all of Nov and Dec. I think they could have waited on the pink items...ie upbeat tee...by Jan and Feb I usually am all set with my plaids and am craving a bright pop of color to get me through the worst of winter. Call me crazy but I think they really missed the boat...

      Delete
    2. I agree with you JA - even if they released new items online today, there's no guarantee you could get an item to wear on Thanksgiving. In a year when they've made so many changes and really need the sales, I think they should've released Holiday all at once. Especially because you can get tartan, glitter, and faux fur items at other retailers and not have to wait... I think they definitely made a mistake here. However, they're probably trying to space things out because January is really skimpy for them. : /

  6. There is a lame (IMO) promo online (for Canada at least) advertising 500 items for less than $75. A lot of accessories included. I really don’t get their promos lately.
Does this mean Canada isn’t doing 40% off in store on Sunday? Do any cdn JCAs know? Thx

  7. Just scored the glen plaid paper bag waist skirt on popback. It sold out almost immediately back in November and has never reappeared back on the site. I have the midnight floral version too and love it. Both will be great pieces post baby and i work to get my body back. Pricey but i expect a price adjustment with whatever Black Friday deal might be happening.

    1. I got my rewards card and it says I can use it at retail and factory.

Is it just a $50 coupon or is it something like you have to spend a certain amount before they'll take the discount?

      Delete
    2. Hi Miss JR - it looks like it's $50 off your purchase of $50 or more.

I didn't get one, but there are quite a few on eBay.

      Delete
    3. Hmmmm... So I have to spend a ton of money in one quarter to get a $50 reward, but random people are just getting $50 off?! Awesome for them but sucks for the rest of us.

I'm having enough issues just spending a $25 reward anyway soooo

      Delete
    4. Right! I don’t even know why I have their credit when I can just be a random shopper and get better coupons. Also I never receive the 20% off coupons in my packages. And last year I didn’t get the free gift in the mail that others got and I spent quite a bit of money. I am so close to closing out the account. There really are no perks for being a card holder. I can actually earn more points using a different credit card.

      Delete
    5. I’m pretty mad that Canadians are left out of most of these promos. I can’t use my teacher discount online even though you can in the US; you can’t stack any coupon on the cdn site ever; they don’t send those coupons in our packages and I bet not one Canadian received a $50 coupon. With our high prices I’m def upset.

      Delete
    6. Yeah, these random promos/coupons don't make being a cardholder feel "exclusive". I understand not getting the teacher/student discount because I'm not one, but not getting a 20% stackable discount doesn't make me feel like placing an order when I know others receive them, cardholder or not. However, if I don't order, I'm not likely to get a 20% off coupon in my package, ha!

At this point they should probably be removing any barriers to customers placing an order - no % off sale, promos for some and not others (regardless of cardholder status), etc aren't helping.

  20. Had a return to make and can't go tomorrow for the 40% off which didn't bother me as there is nothing I want. None of the newer holiday items were on the floor and sale items had no additional % off as per the new norm. Left empty handed and was in and out fairly quickly. I agree with others that there is no longer a reason for me to be a cardholder. It is a bit insulting for people to be getting $50 gift cards for nothing when we have to spend a lot to earn the same amount in rewards. They need to change the program. I will see what the next few months bring before I make a decision but it's not looking good.

  21. Aficionadas! I need your help.

Went to my local store to make a return and found the tailored super 120s blazer in light violet in 00. I tried the petite 00 back whenit first came out and it seemed a but off (and it was still very expensive at that point) so I sent it back. Stalked it afterwards but it never popped up. Tried on the regular 00 in the store and it seemed to fit well - less boxy than the P00 (???!!!). I couldn't really assess it since I was wearing super casual bottoms. The SA stated that I could get it shortened (I remember I didn't like the petite 00 because it felt too long).

I bought it at $125 ($149-25 holiday rewards). It would have been $100 had I bought it online but whatever. I checked the measurements online and it seems like the P00 is one inch shorter than the P0. I'm not sure how tailors could shorten a jacket without messing up the proportions though.

Another thing I was wondering is whether these jackets are just meant to be long. They look long on the tall models. I prefer shorter jackets (the ecole and aubrey are by closet staples). Can't do the regent and campbell - too long!)

I'm inclined to try to make it work because the fabric is gorgeous and it looks really great from my shoulders to my waist. I can pair it with grey bottoms (I have a grey wool pant with lavender windowpane check that would look particular fetching).

    Thoughts?

    1. First off, contact CS and have them adjust the price since you would have paid less online, the stores are supposed to honor online pricing.
Second, I can't imagine it will be simple to just have a blazer shortened.

      Delete
    2. In my experience sleeves can be shortened and tapered, as can the body of the jacket. But shoulders and overall length are best left as is. Buy the jacket that fits best in the shoulders and length.

      Delete
    3. Got the price adjustment. It's now $100. I'll play with it and see how it looks with different items in my closet. The shoulders of the regular actually fit better than the petite. I didn't notice much difference in the length but it's supposed to be one inch.

      Delete
    4. I am borderline petite and having collected a bunch of blazers over time, I would say don’t touch the length. Sometimes a longer blazer looks better. Give it time

    1. Went to Madewell. Location was busy with a long line at the register. They didn’t have the one pair of jeans that I want so I left empty handed. It was almost too crowded to look through the clothes cause the line was wrapped around the front of the store. I’ll just wait for the sale to start online. Anyone know when the online Black Friday sale starts? I guess I can’t do the crowds anymore 😕

    4. I went to the local one for me (Cherry Hill NJ). It was lovely. Plenty of SAs, and they were all ensuring people were greeted and assisted. Busy in a good way - a short line at register and several people browsing. A nice assortment of treats to eat, plus mimosas and coffee. Store looked great, music was upbeat. I knocked out some gifts I needed to get, and picked up a signet bag I have been eyeing ( I have pink and wanted Cabernet for winter). Rang up at the 40% discount. I thought it was a well run event and I was glad I went! I do like this store in general - I've always had great service there and they carry a good selection.

    5. I was very rushed this am since I had to go to church. Went to Madewell event first. My experience was much better than described by American Observer (see below). I picked up the straight fit denim in black tall (they ordered online and I got the discount), the ribbed zip cardigan sweater (will act as a coat in our super warm winter), PJs, velvet top and some accessories as gift items for family. Not much line, most time was spent with the associate trying to order the denim online for me. She almost forgot the free gift, but I reminded her. Next went to jcrew, was super rushed. I thought I had my wish-list all ready with gifts for family. When I got to checkout jcrew and logged into my account online on my phone, jcrew wiped out my wish-list AGAIN, and added 12 petite items from Merchantile in my cart (I have never seen some of these items). I got super annoyed with Jcrew's crazy antics that I walked out of the store without using my rewards card. I did talk to the SA on my way out, and she said nothing to empathize with me. All she said was "we are having a new beauty line come out in a few weeks stay tuned". I said to her " screw beauty we have Sephora for that...how about stylish clothes in sizes that fit and stop messing with my online account" She laughed like I was being funny. I am so mad with jcrew!!

    6. @CR DSa, I'm sorry to hear about your wishlist, I can't believe it was deleted again! I've had weird items in my cart before too. Frustrating especially when you're in a rush. Glad you found some items at Madewell.

Suzy, the Lame' skirt that I was hoping to purchase in-store had a lot of snags in the hemline. That was the last one in store, so didn't get that either. Just look-out for defects in that skirt in case you end up purchasing this week. They should have a 40% discount Black Friday I was informed, not sure if online and store as well.

  24. I went to the "Insiders Only" Pre-Black Friday sale this morning at Madewell in Chicago. What a horror show! I just wrote this email to Madewell about it: I would like to request that this e-mail be forwarded to some kind of manager or supervisor at Madewell because I think someone in a leadership role should be made aware of what a disaster the Pre-Black Friday "Insiders Only" event today was, at least at your Chicago location on Rush St.

When I received notice of this event, I decided to get up early and go. I walked into a complete madhouse. The place was literally packed with dozens and dozens and dozens of people. Maybe even hundreds. You couldn't walk. People were running into you. The sales associates were not at all helping to direct people and had no idea where the end of the line was to check out. I had to ask three different associates and never got anything more than a shrug. To say that your employees were ill-equipped to handle the crowds would be a vast understatement. People were rolling over other people's feet with their baby carriages (why were those allowed?) and there was no security. The security alarm was going off every five minutes and no one asked to see an e-mail to prove that you were invited to the event, so people were just randomly walking in off the street. To be honest, I think it was a fire hazard. In any case, I had to yell myself over everyone to ask for someone to please tell me where the end of the line was. I then stood in line for more than 30 minutes. When I finally got to the cashier, she also didn't ask to see my invitation. It was just a normal transaction, although I did get 25% off. After I paid, I asked where my free gift was and she said, "Oh, they ran out a long time ago." So basically, I stood in line for nothing. A measly 25% discount which you will probably be offering on Black Friday or Cyber Monday anyway. And on top of it, there is a bag tax in Chicago that you're not waiving for your better customers? I spend almost $300 and you still make me pay 7 cents for a bag?? I don't feel very valued at all as a customer and I would never attend another event like this again. I thought "Icon Status" was supposed to mean something. You have wasted my time and I will remember that.

    1. Wow, I'm in a different city but I'm glad I skipped this one. Not sure how packed mine was but I'll stop in early next week try on the things I want and order online. Not that 25% off is really that great anyway. Surprised it was this much of a madhouse for 25% off and a lip gloss.

    2. Yikes! What a terrible experience! I would have gone crazy. I'm getting too old to tolerate insane crowds and unhelpful SAs. I am picturing you standing there yelling "WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THE END OF THE LINE IS?". :D

    3. I was sorry I couldn't get to the one near me, but now I'm glad I didn't. That sounds like Black Friday shopping. What was the free gift?

      Delete
    4. I'm sorry about your experience. That store is very small and they should have really stocked it with the gifts due to their location. Unfortunately, I am not surprised at the bag tax. Chicago really knows how to tax citizens to death.

  26. I returned at the retail store yesterday and one item was Mercantile I ordered on the retail web site. The first associate said I couldn't return that there, then another told her they could if I ordered it from the retail web site (this is what I expected from reading here). But I think J. Crew is causing unnecessary confusion by offering Mercantile on the J. Crew web site, and probably with their Madewell items too. I imagine this must be causing some behind the scenes mayhem. Now they've got Madewell and Mercantile stuff at J. Crew retail stores that has to go back and be sorted out from the J. Crew retail stuff.

  27. I went to three different events offered by the J Crew Family Stores. Jcrew Factory had 60% off with the VIP ticket. Staff was very helpful, 2 in particular who helped me located merchandise. I purchased the floral print pants to wear Thanksgiving and picked up two sweaters for my teenage son. They clearly didn't want anyone to see the 60% off " VIP ticket" and placed it behind the register (Store was 50% off) as soon as I handed it to the cashier. They handed it back to me at the end of the transaction.

Next, I went to J Crew this morning. There were not a lot of people around 9:00 am. However, the store was much lively and there was a long line at check out by 9:30 am. The tartan wrapping paper and box are cute. The snacks were fine - any place that offers Pelligrino is a winner with me. I picked up a tissue tee in Burnished Moss to match the factory floral pants. I also loved the Up Beat Tea, which I took a large in vs my usual medium. My other purchases were sale items at 40% off! I also got the Ruffle Silk Top in Star Print. I thought that it ran large; the 6 fit better instead of my usual 8. The last sale item was the V neck top with cuffs. I also thought that it ran large - the small looked MUCH better than the medium. The 2003 silk v neck tank was HORRIBLE.

From the newer items, I disliked the lace pants - not cute on me at all. The new lace tops were cute; but I didn't want to wait in the line for the fitting rooms again. The drapey top in green is BEAUTIFUL! I just hate Polyester but I may need to reconsider. The store seemed to be doing well. The man in front of me bought $400 worth of jeans and there was a couple purchasing one of the Ludlow top coats.

Lastly, I went to Madewell. I got two sale items - A V Neck Bodysuit and the Turtleneck Cutaway Sweater Vest. The French Girl Rose Lip Polish was a nice little gift. I think that everyone else in the store was trying on and purchasing denim. Line was too long for that.

I didn't use my $50 gift card. I'll wait for the new roll out. I have gotten a lot of incentives from stores this year (i.e. Neiman Marcus and I am definitely not a card holder). I would guess that they cards are distributed as a combination of an algorithm + Big Data + poor state of retail in general to get people in the store and spend more money. I'm certainly not a random shopper. Since Anthropologie is dead to me, I've shopped at the J Crew family stores more this year than last. I didn't get any giftcards last year.

Overall, the events I attended went well.

  28. I stopped in to Factory/Mercantile with little_lining to check out the dresses for her Holiday concert. She picked out the jeweled-collar ponte dress (06475) which was cute, has "gems" (her fave) and seemed to be decent quality ponte. I'm not a fan of the exposed zipper but she didn't care and almost all crewcuts dresses seem to have them (ugh).

I had the 60% Factory coupon which they honored, and I ordered the tartan flats, puffer vest and blanket scarf (for gifts) at 60% off as well, so that worked out. They didn't have any tartan items in store except the crewcuts skirt and top. It was fairly busy but not too bad for a Sunday afternoon.

  29. No $50 coupon or retail visit for me, but I also ordered the Factory Tartan Flats w the 60% off. The SA I know at my Factory said they are wildly popular, so if you are thinking about these for the holidays, don’t wait too long.

  30. Hi. I went to Madewell this morning in Sacramento & it was the busiest I’ve ever seen it. By the time I was ready to pay, the line was in the middle of the store. And by the time I got to the register, the free kits were all gone but they did give a pair of free socks. I got two pairs of skinny jeans, retro tee, indigo courier shirt, & a necklace. The SA forgot the 50% off the necklace so I had to get back in line for the adjustment. Overall, it wasn’t too bad but I’m guessing they didn’t have too many fre kits to begin with.
