JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I know summer isn't over yet...but as the fall items start to roll out and I survey my most worn summer purchases and lament items with the tags still on, I'm curious what everyone's favorite items were from summer 2017 (or those "had to have but the tags are still on items"?)

I'd say my "top 5" for summer are (in no particular order) the Liberty Thorpe floral tie waist shorts, the oxford blue tie neck top, black cotton off the shoulder blouse, beige suede ankle tie sandals and the white denim shorts.

As for the tags still on items - I have yet to wear the navy lace up cotton dress, the navy cotton strapless cross front top (I think I just haven't had the right weather though) and the bright pink tie waist shorts (I also think I'll still reach for these at some point).

    1. Good picks, Anne! My favorites were the Sailboat Tee, White linen skirt with Rick Rack trim, 2 cotton linen v-neck tees, and the blue embroidered gauze skirt. I've also bought and worn the Made in the Shade tee (tan color), as well as two Smocked Tops.

The NWT items are two swim tops, and those remain unworn, only because of the unseasonably cool summer we've had. No dresses, no other skirts, no shorts. :-(

    2. I felt like I bought and returned so much stuff. I knew we might move so I didn't want to hold on to too much.
I actually wore the postcard print shorts a handful of times and only got them a few weeks ago. They're so light and easy to wear. That and the Madewell timeoff tanks are winners to me. I also love my white linen pieces but didn't wear them much, the long sleeve popover, ruffle skirt and sailor pants, but that's really more due to lifestyle. I wore the black linen regent pants several times. The tie waist shorts in black are great but the bow definitely makes me reach for them less. The playa sandals in bright poppy are super bright but so easy to slip on and go I've worn them a bunch.
The only things I think I have with tags are the leopard pants, and the long sleeve chambray shirt dress. Maybe I'll wear both soon. Oh, and the Madewell talisa sandals, but I love them and know they'll get worn. I gave my daughter the Madewell Mariel sandals and she's worn them a bit already.
I was lucky to have sold the chambray OTS top and the grosgrain ribbon trimmed striped top which I never wore, and returned the white ruffle tee.

    3. Suz, I also bought and returned most of what I ordered. I think the only thing I have kept this year has been a purple "new" Jackie from 2 months ago, and it is still sitting in my closet with tags because the long sleeves give it limited functionality in the summer. I miss the old 3/4 sleeve Jackie!

    4. Ok, I lied, also the cactus t and have gotten a lot of use out of that, even though I am typically not a t-shirt girl. Other than that, J Crew has been full of misses for me.

    5. I don't know where your cutoff for summer is, but winners for me were the berry print short-sleeved Tippi and the Liberty floral Campbell blazer. Losers include some stretch suiting tees, paid way too much for the quality of those, but hope to layer them this fall to cut down on the cost per wear.

    6. Most worn for me were a couple short sleeved St James tees, shorts, and white 'cropped' (not really) lookout jeans. This post made me realize most of my go-to tops this summer have come from elsewhere (Velvet and Lila P). Also, most of my JCrew buys this summer have been winter items, despite the fact that my climate is mostly warm weatheršŸ˜¬. About to tackle a closet purge-wish me luck.

  2. I love the bell sleeve eyelet tops, the rick rack jacket, the Emmett heels and the ankle tie Ratti sandals. I have plenty of other items not worn yet, but that's normal for a sale shopper like me...

  3. I've kept it simple this summer:
white jeans, black or navy tee/tank, dark denim jacket -,sailboat tee!
dark or black jeans, white shirt or black/navy tee/tank, white linen blazer
    monochromes - linen pants, tee/tank
    chinos, chambray top
    white denim skirt, chambray shirt
oh, best grab of summer - factory men's madras pants in multi-blue plaid.
    no ruffles
    no bows

one ots top -.RL Polo, no crazy shirring or gathering. not poofy.
will probably return the lavender 120s pieces. cut of pants is skimpy, look is "designed by our cost-conscious accounting team."
The leopard Averys are still on 60-day closet probation.
trotted out ancient RL stars & stripes tees for appropriate holidays
happy to have found: green tee w/ one tiny embroidered teddy bear.

shopping has branched out, more mfrs and sources, but on balance this has been A Summer of Sighs and Returns. Looking forward to autumn.
