Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I like the new in store pick up option; packages arrive sooner, and no need to meet minimum shipping. Will stop in to pick up a few sale orders. Over 1600 items in sale this morning, and I was able to order Thomas Mason tie waist shirt dress in red, white and blue. Was on my wishlist if it made it to sale, so hope it works.

    1. Mygoddy, I almost grabbed that dress as well but trying to be more mindful of my dress purchases that tend to get worn less. And I've made sale purchases more than once this week! I hope the dress works for you, I think it will look beautiful on you!

    2. That dress is cute! I LOVE the Thomas Mason waist tie shirtdress...but that color (khaki) does nothing for me. If it came in black, navy, denim....I'd be all over it.

    3. Totally, Stray Cat. Hope you enjoy it, mygoddy!

    4. Thanks ladies! I hadn't noticed the new khaki one (cute); it's just like the striped one from NAP collab. I ordered G3279.

    5. OH....Mygoddy, I wish I would have understood which dress you ordered! I love the dress in stripes...but now it's gone! Boo Hoo!

    6. @Stray Cat Oh no! J Crew is famous for popbacks, so I bet it will show up again.

  2. No store visit, but sifting through the sale rack online has been pretty successful for me. A fleece sweatshirt, slim flannel shirt and chinos; all marked down to mega deal prices.

  3. No visit for me, but I do have several packages arriving today. I'm starting to feel anxious as I am pulling out my summer stuff and most everything doesn't fit (obviously a good thing). For good or bad, my morning sale purchases have been plentiful.

Yesterday I received the fuchsia tweed skirt, the black tie waist shorts and the tie waist striped top. The top is very thin - I tried a 6 tall which was a good size but it seems like there should be one more button at the bottom of the shirt before the wrap starts - it gapes oddly. I have the white one arriving today which I think is an 8 and I hope that one is a little more substantial material wise. It might be too fussy for me.

The fuchsia tweed skirt runs a little small. It's cute but thin compared to the red/navy/cream pencil skirt in lightweight tweed (ironically enough) which I grabbed for $24 and really like. Will probably wait for a better price.

I tried an 8 in the tie waist shorts, I'm a 10 in most pants and shorts lately and the 8 was good - the hip area is very voluminous but they're really cute and I have a smaller waist. Will probably hold out for sale on these.

I have the tall dress in vineyard jacquard coming today, and also reordered the polka dot silk tall jumpsuit in a smaller size than I already have to compare sizes.

    1. Anne - I concur on the tie waist shirt in stripe. Am thinking to see if my tailor could add a snap at the bottom. While the material is thin there is something about the drape of it that I'm liking for summer. I did a tall in this too.

  4. On my way to the Cambridge store to pick up the shortened striped sailor pants. May also drop by the Boston Copley store this weekend. Though I'm almist shopped out I somehow always manage to find great deals

  5. I made my returns yesterday so I'm not stopping by this weekend, but I saw the Convertible-strap dress in embossed floral in white at the Brookfield store. It is adorable in a girly way - I'm sure a tall thin girl in her 20s would look great in it. The super trapeze shape is hard for anyone with meat on them. It doesn't look at slim as the model photos online!

    2. I have to agree eeps. I tried this one on when I went to make returns and it was just so awkward on me. I even sized up and tried a size 2 but nope, still weird. It just juts out in the rear and flattened my bust. What?!

    1. Just received the Ruffle Boatneck sweater (G5693).

It's described as loose fit, I didn't listen, and still ordered an xs, I should have ordered an xxs. For reference I am 36B, and wear an xxs, xs, or s in cotton tops and sweaters, depending on the cut.
Very boxy. Drop shoulders. Boatneck in xs makes my shoulders droopy, sizing down will look more like the model online.
The knit is substantial and not flimsy for spring/summer wear. Think of the bonded merino sweaters JCrew produced during fall season, but this one is thin bonded merino.

    2. Thank you, JSR! I really wanted this one but sounds like it will be too boxy for me. Are you reordering a smaller size or is it a miss for you? I'm 5'7" did you find it short? I'm worried it would be too short on me. Thanks again!

      Delete
    3. Hi Jan, I will reorder an xxs. Not too short for me, but I am short waisted (I'm 4'11), that's why the length was fine. I raised my hands upto see how high the sweater would go and it didn't go past my belly button.
HTH! Are you close by a JCrew where you can return it if it didn't work out for you?

      Delete
    4. Thank you for your help, JSR! Returns are a pain as a store is out of town but I may try it as I plan on getting to a store after the next rollout.

  8. Returned to Factory today with a bag of shoes to try with the Basketweave skirt in Multi Green. I loved it with my gold Quorras, loved it with a neutral/raffia shoe, but wasn't crazy about it with navy (might also have been the shoe style). I bought it, along with a l/s tee in navy. I plan to style it casually, and it looked great with a t-shirt, flats, and my ecru denim jacket from last year that I happened to have on. I'm even considering pairing it with some yet-to-be purchased cute runners.

  9. Stopped by Factory for the first time since last fall - their versions of the short-sleeve shirtdress drew me in and I got the multicolour stripe and the brilliant cerise (which isn't cerise at all, it's the usual JCrew vibrant flame orange colour). Like Anne - The Fab Life above, I have lost enough weight this year that I need some new summer things and I was so happy with these versions of last year's retail dresses which didn't fit me at the time. Fabric on both was really nice and substantial. Even the white was not see-through yay! It was 80 degrees yesterday and that encouraged me - though it's going to be 40 tomorrow *sigh*

  10. So do we think once the old rewards expire on 4/30 the new ones will be available via the website? I hope so.

  11. I'm a new card holder and a little confused by the way reward points are tracked. I've spent $600 so far, I thought I'd get a $25 reward card after spending $500. But when I logged into my Comedity account today, I saw $0 reward and it said I need to spend $400 more to get a reward? Did it restart my point balance in April because I didn't earn enough 500 points in the first quarter?? I don't remember reading this in the fine print when I first got the card...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello - the point balance should carry to the next quarter. The rewards are issued quarterly, with the end of the windows being march, June, September, and December. On the website I think it will tell you if you earned a reward for the previous quarter - am guessing maybe you have one coming to you ( prob arriving in May) and that what you are seeing is where you stand for the quarter ending in June.

  12. Was in the east end yesterday for business so of course a stop at the Factory store was in order. Got the cat-and-ducky Teddie sweater (cute!) and black-and-white cover up tunic. The pleasant surprise came when the cashier told me that cardholders get an extra 20% off today in store! Yay!

  14. I'm considering the Regent Chambray blazer with ruffle trim. I've never tried on a J.Crew blazer before so need some help with sizing. My usual dress size is 12, sweaters in L, bust 36B, 5'9". Should I go for a 12 or 12T? Or bigger?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @shopgrrl when I was a 12/L I usually took a 12 in blazers but I found that I could size down in the lightweight wool Regent blazer. That was just me personally, not sure if anyone else could chime in. I think you could do a 12 and be good - I wouldn't size up.

      Delete
    2. Hi shopgrrl. I think it may depend on your individual proportions as well. I have broader shoulders and I found that some of the Regents were a little tighter across the shoulders and upper back, so I went with the bigger of my two J Crew blazer sizes. If you can get them on a "non final sale" basis and you have a relatively easy way to return, you may want to try a couple different sizes if you can find them.

      Delete
    3. Hello shopgrrl. I took the larger of my two blazer sizes (a 12) when I tried this on. I'm just under 5'8 36DD and am a 10/12 in dresses and button ups. I think you may be fine in regular length. Good luck with it - love the fabric and got the scallop sucking and the ruffle pant. Both have been great.

  15. I'm tempted by the Billie sailor jean but worried about the horrible reviews. Should I stay away? Would love to try it on in store... I'm also intrigued by the eyelet shirt dress.

Another Q - do in store prices and online prices differ usually, during markdown periods like this? I'm curious... I like to try on things in store but it's so disappointing when it's more expensive in store than online...

    1. Jennifer, I checked out the reviews and it seems like people either love them or hate them. If you like them I would give them a try now while they are not final sale. If you live near a store maybe you could have it shipped to the store and you could try them on there and return all in one trip if you know right away they won't work. I have 2 pair of Billie jeans (not the sailor ones though)and am surprised how much I like them!
It does seem like they are behind or something with markdowns in the stores sometimes. I've been browsing before and commented that something is marked down online and sometimes the sales associate will seem surprised. So who knows? A lot of times it will ring up with the sale price at the register even if it's not marked down but not always. They will match the online price though it's a pain to have to even ask for that.

      Delete
    2. I tried and reviewed them and loved them.

      Delete
    3. Re: pricing discrepancies, I was frustrated with that last year until I realized, through the lovely and helpful JCAs on this blog, that you can ask the stores to price match. I've only done it once, but they did it without hesitation when I asked.

  16. Congrats to everyone who is shopping because they lost weight...that is if that was a goal for you! That's why I'm shopping too. Lost at least a size and all my bottoms (in particular) are too big. Finding sizing differences in various stores insane! I tried on a pair of size 6 jeans at Talbots and thought the tag was mislabeled. HUGE all over...I could pull the waist out away from my body by at least 6"! I commented to the sales lady and she said "oh you need maybe a 0 or 2"....WHAT?!!! Since when does a woman who is 5'9" and weights 138lbs wear a size 0 or 2? What has happened since the last time I bought jeans, seriously??? Too much vanity sizing, that's what! I'm not sure if the point is to make woman feel better about themselves, but I just find it time wasting and annoying!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. SC - I completely get your point about the vanity sizing. I've been around the same size for years but now I am fitting in to size 6 tops - I'm 5'8" 32E chest and let's just say I weigh more than you do...it's so crazy to me. The last time I fit (barely) in to a size six was twenty years and twenty five pounds ago.

    2. I'm 5'4", 122lbs and wear a size 0 or 2 in J.Crew. I have a dress of my mum's from the late 70s when she was my size. It's a size 6.

  17. Hey....if anyone wants to see the Collection ruffle skirt in striped on a real person, pop over to Atlantic-Pacific. She says she also ordered the khaki-tulle number. All I can say about her looks is "Is someone missing their curtains....and matching bedspread?". Hee.

    1. Oh Stray Cat, you're too much. Lol. I saw that look and didn't care for it but still love the skirt. I just cannot justify getting it at that price. Perhaps if it makes it to half off.

  18. Has anyone had recent experiences using the teacher discount? I feel like the policy changes depending on who is working/store/mood of the associate. Is it really not honored on top of 30% anymore? I wish they would just have the policy in print. The associate at my nearest store (Short Hills) was so rude about it. Although I often suspect at that store that I am treated poorly if I am not purchasing huge volume, dressed extra fancy, etc. They are pretty unnecessarily snobby. I got a lot of attitude about returning several swim items as well (purchased multiple sizes... as one does of items not sold in store...).

    1. By the way, everyone must be out making returns - I see lots of popbacks online that weren't there this morning, including items I just returned in store that were sold out. I'm trying to catch a popback of the chambray ruffle pant in a 12 if anyone happens to see it!

      Delete
    2. Heather I recently had an issue with being given attitude from a sales associate at my local store (KY) and emailed corporate about it. Was I making returns? Yes but our store doesn't carry a lot of size variety nor all of the items that J Crew releases. I was also told at the time of my visit that I couldn't stack the teacher discount on top of any other discounts. I was contacted by both corporate and my local store manager and told that teacher discounts can be applied at any time on any item regardless of other offers. They even told me they could apply it to online orders if I showed my receipt in store.

      Delete
    3. I have experienced very inconsistent policies in store w the teacher discount. Any time there is a universal 30% or whatever off the whole store or a number of categories, no discount. No discount on top of extra % off sale.

I mostly shop online and in general have found the customer service online to be excellent but in store, more judgy and condescending, esp about returns. Of course that means no teacher discount, but the prices online and certainly the selection are better online anyway.

      Delete
    4. Zach and Mere, wow! If you are able to always stack the teacher discount AND use it for adjustments on online purchases at your store, you are very lucky. My store would never honor those policies, unfortunately, and I'm too embarrassed to stand there at the register and press the matter.

      Delete
    5. The associate basically told me he was the manager and the policy depends on the store and it was up to him. I told him I was just surprised because other stores had honored the discount and he asked if I had a receipt to prove it. Not on me? He just gave me attitude and it was frustrating. I wasn't even pressing it. I ended up buying less items just because I was annoyed about the whole trip, after the attitude over returns as well. I just wondered if there was an actual policy. I asked a stylist on the phone when looking for an item that the store wouldn't search for (another annoyance) and she said she didn't know since it was as in store only.

I don't often shop in the store and I probably won't start now. The associates in my factory store know me and are much nicer. I guess they aren't so snobby. I'll make my returns in NYC versus returning to Short Hills.

      Delete
    6. When I was on the road more, I'd stop in to the Short Hills store fairly frequently. On my last visit, the then manager told me that no one had time to do a search, but that I'd get a call by the end of the day. No call. I phoned the next day (from my home in NYC). Guess what? the item was in the store after all. Would they do a send sale? um, a charge&send? on my JC card? to me, at my home address on the account? No. Could I speak to the manager? Too busy. Could she give me a reason for the sudden change in policy? um, security. Say what? Oh, did I say "last visit"? Make that "final visit."

upon reflection, i wonder if she was being defensive because she just didn't know how to do a send-sale. Learning on the job isn't always the best idea.

      Delete
    7. I've also had much better customer service on-line than in store. I live more than two hours from a store and so I work with a great VPS via email. She is always courteous. I've had mixed experiences in store and don't look forward to my trips there as much as before. Typically, when I find something I like in store, I take note and order through my VPS later.

      Delete
    8. I have to say that I'm pretty lucky then. I've never been treated rudely over returns at either my previous(Syracuse) and current (Orlando) "home" stores. Last week, one sales associate was happy that I returned a jacket that had sold out. It was her size. I did however encounter a snooty associate at Rockefeller a few years back now. I was exchanging a dress that I received worn. She didn't want to return it. I let her have it and asked for a manager. I'm far better at shaming people than they are at shaming me.

  19. PSA: The promo cards from the promotion that ran late last month is expiring today. I'd been meaning to use mine forever but kept forgetting. It a good thing I had put a note on my phone.

  20. Thanks D*ska. In that vein, if anyone has a $10 off in store card, some of them expire within the next month. I just found out they don't last as long as the 15% off cards. Incidentally, just used one on a cute glow-in-the-dark crew it's shirt plus the gold hinge bracelet. Total was $13, so a wonderful purchase!
