J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. Big updates to sales section. Some old old items. Scored myself a Woolrich John Rich stocking for $14. Hope it ships. Would go well with the Woolrich tree skirt ;) Also 14% ebates is awesome!

  3. Last night I received my paper bag waist pants. I have to try them on a few different ways, but they do feel really comfortable, not itchy, etc.
I had seen an inspiration pic that I can't find now, it was either on Goop, The Zoe Report or Man Repeller (or posted by one of them on Pinterest) with black pleated, narrow leg (maybe paper bag waist, maybe not) pants and a very architectural white shirt. I loved the look and for some reason didn't pin it, (maybe it was one of those images that doesn't pin?). Anyway if anyone knows what it is please le me know!

I also got the party PJ pants in a size up, because my regular size had a tear in the seam and I didn't like the way the pockets stuck out. These are loose, but I think flow a little better. I tried them on with my sequin Sophia pumps and a white linen Rhodes blazer and I think the look worked well together.

Both pants are just about the same EXACT color and I'm not sure I need both, although the look is very different. I'll post some pics today on IG @wearthislikethis.

  4. My no shop December and January went great - no purchases! But I think I might have made up for it in February. I received a Factory order on Friday, and my first of 3 orders from the crew. And there is a new skirt on J crew this morning that I didn't see before and might have to try (midi skirt in fringe dot).

From factory I ordered the gingham button down, chambray button down, the navy dot t-shirt and the gold elephant t-shirts. The t-shirts are fantastic! Not see through at all. I love them so much. The chambray is a smidge too tight across the bust so that is going back. The gingham pulls in the slightest way (I don't think anyone would notice) so I'm going to try it on with a few different things to see if it works. I'm quite busty so this is par for the course for me.

From the crew I received the tulle cardigan in grey and blush and it is absolute love. It is quite long as the reviews state but I'm 5'10 so on me it's just below my bum. I love the tulle and can think of a million different ways to wear it (lace pants, dresses, jeans, pencil skirts).

I loved the sweater skirt so ended up ordering that late Sunday night. I can get a lot of wear of that in 3 seasons if the fabric is nice. We shall see. Skirts are my thing - I love them so much! Seriously can't wait to receive the giraffe skirt - hope it's as fabulous in person as it is online!

  5. It's nice to see the Collection dress in Austrian eyelet is back (F2086). I also like the Gathered-sleeve dress in bi-stretch cotton (G1180), but that might be from a previous roll-out. Several of the party dresses are offered in tall so that's also good news.

    1. I think the party dresses could replace the "now gone" bridesmaid/wedding styles//

    2. Yes, the Austrian eyelet dress is exquisite. Too bad there's no place for me to wear it to. And it would be too long for this shortie. 😁

  6. Just ordered the gemma leopard flats and the striped sweater. I have some marti pants arriving today and I wish i would have waited til today to order. For anyone who used ebates om top of the deal, today is 14% cash back!!

    1. I paid FP for those flats -- love them! They fit me better than other Gemmas, don't seem to be AS wide, just a nice, perfect fit. You will love these!

    2. oh thanks! I ordered in my normal size so fingers crossed.

  7. My Audrey flats in snakeskin finally arrived and they're way too big! I'm normally a 5.5 to 6 in shoes and consistently take a 6 in J. Crew shoes but the Audrey's are at least a half size too long on me (the entire back part of my foot came out when I tried to take a step).

There's a lot to love in the new arrivals and I expect I'll make an order later today esp with ebates' 14% cash back. The spaghetti strap dresses and the Drake giraffe print in the silk scarves so far have caught my eye the most.

    1. eh crud. i ordered them with my rewards in my usual size and they're being delivered today. i don't want to deal with YET ANOTHER RETURN BECAUSE OF SIZING ISSUES!

    2. It's so frustrating. And for the size I'll need it looks like it's all sold out. I had used my rewards to purchase them too, sigh.

  8. I received the scallop skirt in khaki and it is so darling. A perfect basic with a twist. I ordered a tall even though I'm only 5'5" to have some extra length and it worked out great. The material is a nice weight and I was pleasantly surprised by the blue and white striped lining. I saw a chambray version in today's rollout and I would consider ordering that as well if it is offered in a tall. I had been holding off buying anything else from last rollout or this one until the liberty lady jacket I bought using the promotion and rewards and then they got me with a pop back of the crystal garland necklace this morning. Sad I placed my order even though I saw the Ebates promo in my email and then forgot to use it. Whoops, coffee first, then online shopping.

    1. Oh, I hate when I miss the Ebates button! Has happened to me more than I care to admit. :-(

Thanks for the review on that scallop skirt -- that one and the denim one are so cute!

    2. I hadn't noticed the denim scalloped skirt until you mentioned it, you're right, it's really cute! Too bad they're not offering it in a Tall, 17.5" is just too short on me at 5'9".

  9. That was the online rollout today, right?

    1. Twas, I think! Do you see anything you like? I like a few pieces, but in light of last week's really helpful thread about why we buy the things we do, I'm trying to make a real effort to think about purchases a little more carefully. I find that it's easy and fun to click away and get packages, but I also hate returning things that aren't loves (i feel guilty). There's absolutely nothing I need or can't live without right now so I'll sit tight for a bit. (Old me would've carted away Critter Tippi, Striped button down, giraffe everything, etc., by now!) There's other things that I need to save for do i need you wait. Anyways, don't mean to get carried away! (Side note, I'm watching the end of Pretty in Pink right now. Ducky Forever!)

    2. Thanks! It seemed like a smaller rollout than I was expecting, didn't realize it was all there at first. I liked a few tees but there wasn't much I wanted. I ordered a few things from the sale update. I don't even mind returning so much as I mind getting the packages. I used to like it, now I don't. It reminds me I was (probably) shopping impulsively and I feel guilty for that. I admit I love that Austrian lace but I have no where to wear it.
Now don't go cutting up your J. Crew stuff and making a new dress out of it! lol Ducky 4ever!

  10. My Cropped Black Lady Jacket with gold buttons is here for a visit. It feels heavier - weight not warmth - every time I try it on. Has anyone else had this reaction?

    1. How did you find the sizing on that one, WFF? The reviews are all over the place.

      Delete
    2. I'll answer--the proportions don't work for me BUT I was able to size down to a 00 in the jacket so I'd say in runs big. My torso is very narrow but my upper back is broad and I always size up in blazers/coats. (I have a few 0 blazers but most are 2 and some are 4.) For length I would size up but it was just too boxy on me.

      Delete
    3. My blazer sizes are schoolboy 10 or 12, Campbell 10, Bella 8, 10, 12 - the Bellas are lovely but inconsistent, the Robert Nobles seem to run smaller than the velvet. So having said that, I'm fine with a 10 in the Black Lady, could have taken an 8 but the fabric is so bulky I would have been unhappy with a closer fit. My other (much older) lady jacket is an 8 and is just fine, but the cut is much less boxy.

Um, just reread that paragraph and I'm not sure I was helpful.

  11. Thrilled to see 14% at Ebates, made snagging the Gingham Tippi popback all the sweeter! Thought about some jewelry popbacks as well, but just said "no" and as I know I'll get far more use from the sweater.

  12. Just received my windowpane marties in the petite size. When I was in the store, my normal size seemed a bit tight and a size up a bit loose. I went for the sized up size in a petite hoping they'd be a bit more snug and I actually think the waist feels looser. I think I'm going to keep them though because I have a feeling sizing down would result in them being too tight in the thighs. Overall though, I love them. I'm going to have to buy a few other colors.

I'll be posting an outfit with them later on my IG.

  13. On the NYFW Fall 2017 photos there is a grey tulle skirt with what appears to be a grey "apron" wrapped partially around it. Looks unique. Anyone have any details on this?

  15. Has anyone tried on the California art shirt? I'm not sure if I should size up...I don't like my tshirts too clingy. And I wonder if it's prone to shrinkage?

Also, any comments on the ruffle bib shirt? The reviews are less than stellar but it's so adorable.....I want to get the black!

    2. @GinaBean, I haven't read the reviews but I tried the ruffle bib shirt in store a few weeks ago. I thought it was so cute when I first saw it, thought it was a sure thing! But the fit is a bit weird - boxy and loose (it is supposed to be a loose fit). I tried my regular Tippi and t-shirt size and it just didn't look all that great. Sizing down wouldn't work because then it'd be too small in the armpits. Womp womp ☹️

  16. The new gold embellished Jackie arrived today and its beautiful. As someone else mentioned it has a vintage feel to it. I took a large, my usual Jackie size.

The grey long cardigan with tulle arrived too - fit my usual medium. Color is lovely. Tulle just isn't working for me. Return.

I got my daughter the crewcuts mermaid flip flops. SO CUTE!

  17. I just received a Lady Jacket with Liberty trim jacket (size 8), and am thinking of ordering a smaller size (6) instead.
The only J. Crew blazer I have is a size 6 I got many years ago, one of my first J. Crew items, so as opposed to most other kinds of garments, I am not 100% sure of my size in blazers.
Does anyone have an opinion on sizing for this piece? Did you buy two sizes--and if so, which one fit better, the larger or the smaller one?
(My first posting and I love this blog!)

    1. I received my Lady Jacket yesterday. I have been off J. Crew blazers since they stopped offering the Schoolboy at retail but have gotten a few Schoolboys from Factory. I have many older Astrid style jackets an love them - just scored a yellow linen on eBay recently. Anyway, I ordered my usual size and I think it fits pretty good - maybe just a touch small but not enough to order up. I like a pretty fitted blazer/jacket.

    2. I think the fit will depend on the item plus your unique proportions. I typically wear a 4P in the Regent, Rhodes and Campbell. But (very) occasionally, I wear a 2P. (the Samantha jacket), although the 2P is usually too tight in the shoulders and under the arms. I tried on the 2 (equivalent of 4P) at the store and the sales associate suggested I try the next size down because the body was a little wide. I was a little sceptical because the shoulders usually would be too tight but she was right. It wasn't too tight in the shoulder. Based on the regular size fitting, she suggested that 2P would be the perfect size for me to order online. I actually ordered the 2P and the 4P and, once again, she was right! 2P is the right size. It's very strange, but the 4P seems slightly tighter under the arms than the 2P. I put them right on top of each other and the 4P is a little wider in the body but I can't really see a difference in the shoulder so it is very strange....They have a very generous return period. Why not hang onto the 8 and try looking for the 6 to come back so you can try them both on and compare.

J Crew describes this one as "classic fit", which is a clue that it might be a little more generous in cut. I think the lady jackets do vary in specific fit (which is a little frustrating because it makes online shopping so challenging). For example, the metallic tweed one F7291 fit smaller (I was moving up to the 6P), but for the lady jacket with gold buttons G0218, the 4P seemed the right size for me. Quilted lady jacket in stewart plaid F8503 I fit a 4 (there is no petite version but that's equivalent of 6P), and now here I am with a 2P for the lady jacket with liberty trim....Sadly, the only way to know for sure is to try on a couple of sizes.

I always make sure to try a Tippi sweater under my jackets to make sure I have room for that at least.

By the way - who else found the Lady Jacket with Gold buttons too heavy/weighty and the braiding scratchy at the neck?

      Delete
    3. Thanks, Luxette.
Is your usual size the same for J. Crew blazers as for, say, sweaters/blouses at J. Crew?

      Delete
    4. Toronto Modern, Thank you for sharing your blazer saga!
Now I'm really thinking I need to try the 6. Only the promotion I used is over, so maybe I'll wait a bit...
Would be nice if there were more than just hints about sizing from J. Crew, but you're right that it is also about where I am smaller/larger/average sized.

    5. If u call them they'll allow u to do an advance exchange over the phone . They'll honor the price u paid.

    6. Grape Juice - That's an interesting point Chanie has about the phone advance exchange. But when I have just purchased an item that fits but I am wondering if I should size down, I'm always reluctant to let the bigger size leave my hands until I have tried the smaller size because what if I return the larger one, get the smaller size and then decide I should wear the larger size. There are a often pop backs on sold out items. If you check regularly, you may catch the smaller size on pop back. But it may be tricky to time things so that you find a pop back on the same promo.

      Delete
    7. Thanks Chanie and Toronto Modern. That's a good idea. But as you say, Toronto Modern, in this particular situation I am pretty sure I want this jacket. Seeing the smaller size is almost a way for me to understand the ways it *can fit, and then I'll figure out if I like the smaller or larger size.
