Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. Just a PSA that if you missed the Fringy Tweed Top, it's back this morning in most sizes/colors at a ridiculous $15 after the extra 50%. It's a gorgeous top, luxe but versatile. I've worn my ivory many times and if I weren't on my ban, I would get another color!

  2. I went this weekend. Per usual sale rack all picked over with lack of styles and even worse lack of sizes. But one diamond in the rough was the canvas color downtown field jacket for $60 after the extra half off...Quite a deal and they actually had a few normal sizes left. It is rare to see any of these jackets on sale in store especially in sizes that are normal. I purchased a small.. I have also never seen a field jacket marked down so low. I also have one in burgundy but paid about 70-80 on sale awhile back. Anyone ever gotten a downtown field jacket for less than $60 before?

  3. Assuming I don't purchase anything between now and Wednesday, I made it through one month of my shopping ban! I don't even want anything right now and everything I might have purchased to try is still in stock. Anyone else make it through the month? -lep33shops

    1. I slipped once and ordered a scarf on the 24th, right before it sold out. I haven't yet gotten a shipping notice and I'm expecting a "sorry, wish we had enough" message any day now. I won't mind if it doesn't ship -- I've enjoyed wearing more of my classic JC pieces and I certainly don't mind the break from sale stalking, returns, etc!

    2. Congrats!!! I know there were a few other JCAs going strong as well.

I'm afraid I wasn't as good as I wanted to be (bought some Madewell boots on sale, a scarf popback that I'd been stalking, as well as a pair of Teddies & a long-sleeve tee -- not too bad, but not exactly the clean ban that I set out to do either. :-( Oy. Still planning to wait for rewards before ordering again, at least.

    3. ugh, that reminds me, I still owe you those measurements on the blazer! I didn't forget, life just got very busy...!

    4. @Lauren, no worries at all!! I know how busy things can get -- every weekend, I set out to do a million errands and I'm lucky if I can manage just one :-p

  4. I spent a few hours (ack!) trying on new arrivals yesterday:

Side slit sweater in dusk/linen: Very thin marino, the shade of gray made me look yellow (I am very fare with dark brown hair). I was disappointed in this, personally, thought it looked cuter on the hanger than on me. Fit was TTS (I tried a small, my usual sweater size)

Tipped button-back bell-sleeve top in periwinkle: pretty color, had a hard time buttoning it myself! Had to put it over my head and have my VPS finish the rest. Super cute, the sleeves aren't too big. Reminds me of the striped bell-sleeve dress from last year that I wear to death and love. Runs very big, I took a 2 (when I usually wear a 4/6 in tops).

Ruffle-trim top in striped cotton poplin: super cute basic. I took a 4 as it's a top that goes overhead (no zipper, etc)

Ornate floral ruffle-trim top in silk: pretty pattern in person, also took a 4. Looks nice with jeans/navy/chambray.

Striped boatneck tunic with tie: I bought in blue to wear with Pixies. I also tied it in the back vs around the front for a cleaner look. Runs huge, I bought a 0.

Quilted safari jacket: Love the cut, tried on a 4 and the arms were long. Color didn't work on me, I also didn't care for the shiny poly material (similar to the pink buffalo plaid shirt and skirt). Wish they made it in cotton/twill

Martie pant in windowpane: Took a 4 (I am a 4 in Pixies to compare). Super cute for Spring, but being I live in Boston, won't be able to wear them for some time. :)

Cropped chambray ruffle pant: VERY high waisted, not flattering on me. The pockets added too much material on my hips. Tried a 4, and had a ton of room in the waist.

Fringy tweed sheath dress: Love the shape, the texture and fringe reminds me of burlap up close. Something to keep my eye on as a sale purchase. Fit is TTS.

Jacket in lightweight tweed: Very fresh and bright for spring, will look good with khakis, navy, jeans. Took a four, fit was TTS.

Sheath dress in lightweight tweed: Tried my usual dress size and did not flatter me at all, hit at the wrong spot and made me look very hippy.

Lea ballet flats in metallic leather: The elastic makes a huge difference vs the Cece (which makes me look like I have Fred Flintstone feet). Gives a sleeker appearance, fit is TTS.

    1. Thanks,Sharon. These are great reviews! I'm going to take another look at the Jacket in lightweight tweed. It must look better IRL than how I'm seeing it online.
Agree about the Quilted Safari Jacket, a cotton/twill would be nice.

    2. The back on jacket is cute, almost like a denim jacket, not as stuffy as a typical blazer. The red/white/blue/tan look crisp together IRL.

    4. These were very helpful reviews, thanks, Sharon! I'm trying to be good and wait for Rewards so avoiding the store right now. Pairing that tunic with Pixies will be perfect. Curious to check out the Lea flat!

  5. I went today for some returns, and of course checked out sale. Would have bought the turtleneck tippi in pink but I really wanted to size up to a small, which I tried in red. Especially in the pink which is kind of sheer, I preferred the looser fit. This turtleneck is super comfortable, long and lean. I'll definitely keep my eyes on these for other colors.
I saw two sale shirts in liberty prints I liked better in person than online. The paisley and the floral with the black background. I didn't bother to try them on because I know I wouldn't get use out of them, but I liked them both.
Tried on the Lea flats in a size 8, which is what was on the floor. It fit so I think they run a touch big. I'm an 8.5 in Gemma's and a 9 in the Ava Ballet flats from 2015 or early 2016. I'd probably get an 8.5 in these but I liked the shape a lot.
Nothing else of interest to me. I would love to have found the pants with the paper bag waist to try but didn't see any.

    1. Also stopped into Madewell where sale is now only an additional 30% off. I was there the Friday before last and it was an additional 40% off sale.

    2. A very funny read, but telling as well: we're STILL dealing with leopard prints, pants as leggings, and sweats for everyday/work wear (though the latter now has the fancy title "Athleisure"), and of course ripped jeans aren't going anywhere either.

    3. "Of course, we don't ever talk about leggings on guys". Hehe

    4. Thanks for sharing, that was fun! Also:

'Lyons: Tiny little bags, tiny little cell phones and tiny little charms for your phone all go in the same category for me: What? I have no appreciation for them whatsoever. I have total appreciation for an evening bag, in which a girl can keep her keys, her credit card, her safety cash and her lipgloss. But I just don’t get small bags. Small bags have no reason for being.'

Teehee, um, like those tiny (albeit cute!) Ryder bags from this past fall?? :-p

  7. I ordered a pair of the blue Betty sunglasses after they popped up on my Instagram feed. I fell for it hook line and sinker. I've never tried the style on, though, so not sure if they will work for me.

    1. I know they're trying to persuade customers to pay full-price, but I wish they'd realize that some customers (moi!) are more likely to buy a few things with even a small 'New Arrivals' promo. 10%, 25% off of some of these SPRING items might entice shoppers like myself to buy now. Many of us are going into the dead of winter, even customers living down south, so it's hard for some to justify paying full-price now for a thin cotton sleeveless top or cropped pants, etc., that we won't be wearing anytime soon. I like the ruffle-bib top and the windowpane Marties but I can wait to buy them, especially at 'full-price'. (Also, pricing is a psychological game -- items are overpriced to begin with and shoppers know that. If a retailer offers the illusion that an item is on sale, perhaps some might be tempted to buy.) This is my personal impression anyway, could very well be wrong since I'm not in Sales or Marketing and there might be a solid reason for these methods.

As for Final Sale, I don't know why they mess with that promo at all. If shoppers STILL didn't buy some of this stuff at 50%, I'm not sure why 30% off might be expected to move more merchandise? Oh well.

@Polishedteacher, if you're reading this -- I noticed that JC ended up deleting that particular post on Insta about the vegan baker with the calf hair bag! (PS, did your cargo pants end up working out for you? I sincerely hope so! I think I just got a mis-sized pair. I ended up re-ordering my regular size last nite (final sale, etc) and if those don't work out again, I'll give them to my sister.

    2. I should add that I realize there are shoppers with Spring break/winter vacations coming up and that many will appreciate current offerings more immediately. However, it still seems like sales are probably quite slow after the holidays, so you'd think there might be a bit more effort made to attract shoppers. (Even the 25% off Sports clothing seems to be coming late, when many New Years resolution shoppers intent on returning to the gym will probably already have picked up gear with other retailers by now.) But who knows, maybe they know what they're doing and it ends up working out for shoppers and retailers alike.

    3. @T93, seriously?!? Again, don't know how anyone did not have the foresight to realize people may be critical of those posts. The cargo pants are unfortunately small even though I ordered them in the same size as the skinny cargos from last year. Going to wear them around the house to see if they loosen up at all since last year's bagged out pretty badly.

    4. @Polishedteacher, oh bummer about those cargo pants!! I thought it was just me, as I ordered the same size that I ordered last year's version, but they didn't fit and felt VERY snug. (I'm going to try to walk around in the new pair to see if they loosen up.) I think ultimately you're probably better off with they 'smaller' size -- i found the bigger size an odd fit in the pooch/hip & butt area (baggy & unflattering.) Fingers crossed that our pants work out for us in the end!
