"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Lots of clearance...no sizes except tiny and an occasional XL..means taking my money elsewhere to stores who have some sizes on their sale rack! Have not bought from J. Crew in awhile due to this.

  2. Not a vent, just an FYI that I thought to post here since this is the most current thread. Rewards have been mailed out and should arrive (or appear in our accounts) by early-mid February. :-)

  3. Since the current sale ends tonight, do we think they're switching over to final sale tomorrow?

    1. I was thinking the same thing. That would DEFINITELY stop my J Crew sale shopping, so maybe not such a bad thing. ;) My UPS guy is going to hate me today. Two orders I placed last week are shipping out one item at a time. I think I have 7 or 8 packages arriving today. My recycling bin is going to be overflowing.

    2. This wasn't J.Crew, but I just saw a new low in a single order being shipped in multiple packages. I ordered a few items from Indigo (CDN version of Barnes and Noble), including some gift bags. Yup, received a huge box containing *one* gift bag, and the rest of the order came in another box. Where is the sanity check in cases like this?

    3. once i ordered a few things but i needed to hit the min total for free shipping... so i threw in some socks... yeah... the socks shipped by themselves :/

    4. I had a record 7 j crew packages in one day last week due to items shipping separately. Embarrassing. More embarrassing, I asked my neighbors retrieve them as I was away and they came fairly earlier and no one was going to be home for hours. Aside from that it cannot be cost effective when I get free shipping for them to ship four packages, even if they have a deeply discounted rate. I get that the store fulfillment option helps clear inventory but at what cost? Especially if the items are sale items with another 40-50% off.

  4. I agree with everyone about receiving multi boxes with one thing in them, seems SO wasteful. The only thing I can guess is that most companies have multiple warehouses and things ship from where the stock is. Still very frustrating!

  5. This is not a vent but I did order the pebble stone color in the fair isle Holly sweater. It got another price reduction this morning to $49.99 so I think it was a good price with another discount I had on top of that and free shipping. It is really just now getting cold here so I think this will be good for January and February.

    1. My local store was 50% off sale. Really the only thing I've wanted is the tuxedo tshirt so unless there's free shipping at some point, I will pass. (I didn't see it at my store and this morning it was on sale online.)

    3. @Suz Has, I was interested in that top too and was just waiting for sale. I called a store to order it along with a couple of the St. James tees on sale (50% off sale & free shipping). Plus, they let me stack educator, so I don't have to go back into the store. Total was $75, so might be worth a shot.

    4. Wow! That's great price. Mine was $113 plus $10 tax after 40% off $189.00. How much was is it in store. Did they have the camel one? I bought the grey... like it very much... but would prefer camel instead. What store had them in stock? Thanks for the help.

    5. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure Mygoddy was referring to the tuxedo tshirt that I mentioned above! Not the cashmere!

    6. @Suz Has yes, that's right! I was referencing the tshirt.

  7. Thank you! What store is that? I will try to call my local store too...

  8. I was looking at my new Boden catalog at it looks like the Tilly Sweater had enough hate from J Crew and decided to move across the pond. Did Boden choose the name Tilly to troll??

  9. FYI..the jcrew clearance store in Lynchburg is permanently closing January 10!

    1. Does anyone know why? I'm wondering what this means, it seems like that location made sense since they ship out of Lynchburg.

    2. They just had a sign posted on the door that says they will be permanently closing. No reason given. Lynchburg has 3 major stores closing it was announced today and this is one of them (Macy's and Hallmark).

    3. Oh no! My husband said we could stop by on our way to the inauguration in the 19th. Glad I saw this, it would have been like arriving at Wally World... I have heard they are expanding the Arden store, maybe they are just consolidating.

    4. Oh my, Taylor is not going to be happy about this!. DD, love the Wally World reference :-D

    5. @Lauren you are right. Oooooooooof. I just saw DD's comment in today's post. The clearance store runs are the only reason I didn't 100% dread neuro trips to UVA with my son! What a bummer.

    6. Here's a press release statement from J Crew.

We have increased the availability of clearance merchandise through our online channels – especially our Factory outlets – allowing us to liquidate this inventory more efficiently. Because of this, we have decided to close our Lynchburg clearance store. It is important to note that there will be no layoffs with this store closure as all 14 associates have been reassigned to other positions within J.Crew. We look forward to remaining a part of the Lynchburg community and want to thank all of our loyal local customers.

  10. I ordered the Collection Italian Turtleneck Sweater for 50% off (net $200). It is such a gorgeous sweater, but it's so long. I'm so sad I can't make it work. The knit is thick and luxurious, the heathered grey color has flecks of a beautiful blue in it. It is so soft. But, even in an XS, it comes down below my knees in the back.

I truly don't understand J. Crew's design or production team. If this sweater was 4 inches shorter, it would have been the most amazing sweater. Even on someone taller, I think it would be too long (unless someone close to 6 feet tall). I'm so sad to have to return this sweater.

  11. For those whose stores are 50% off, I emailed VPS about an exchange and another shirt and mentioned my store was 50% off, which is was when I was there the other day. She said the store is no longer 50% off and wouldn't honor the 50% discount, and the shirt I wanted to exchange is not available any longer. Oh well.

  12. The new promo on the website mentions 'new aka lower prices' - I think they're referring to sale items? I don't notice new prices does anyone else?

    1. I checked the prices of my recent purchases (all sale) and nothing was lower than it's been.

    2. The only one I saw was for the diamond tweed coat, down from 269.99 to 229.99.

    3. That's weird, I wonder what they mean especially since they've emphasized it in the promo header.

  13. Ive received a gift certificate from J. Crew every Christmas for 20+ years. This is the first year I haven't wanted anything and decided to hold on to it. :(
