  1. Here is a vent, not against J Crew but what one of my dogs did to J Crew. It poured down rain last night - my husband takes the dogs out for a run every morning & when he came in this morning one of them, Frances, inexplicably stuck her head INTO my clean laundry basket (haven't had a chance to put it away yet!) where my Lookout crop jeans in white were. Well, needless to say - MUD, MUD all over the BUTT of these jeans... I sprayed OxyClean max all over & they're in the wash now. I am so irritated. I wear these jeans once a week, if not more, I love them so much. AND! I only paid $24 for my pair at the clearance store a while back. I told my husband if the stain doesn't come out I'm going to buy a new pair (at $115, no less) & tell him it's on Frances. Oof. I guess she was just trying to dry her head off but there were dark-wash & black jeans in there too... nope, had to go for the white. :/

    1. Oh no!! I've had variations of that happen (involving pets, kids, my own clumsy food-handling). Had to be the white!! Fingers crossed that all comes out well.

    2. i'm not sure it'll work with mud, but one trick i've used to get stains out of white clothes is to make a paste of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and baking soda and a little warm water... let it sit for a half hour and then rinse it off and wash in the washer with warm water.

      good luck!!!

    3. My neighbors dog, not Doodle of course, ran over and jumped all over me and got grass stain all over a new pair of toothpick jeans a few years ago. It never would come out. I was never happier when those people moved.

    4. It's a bummer that this sort of thing tends to happen to a person's favorite piece!

    5. Taylor, grab a bar of Fels Naptha-your grocery store should have it (it's under $2). It's an old-fashioned laundry bar, and the only thing that takes red dirt/mud out of my boys' white baseball pants. At my store, it's on the top shelf in the laundry section. Wet your jeans, then rub the bar over the stained area-you can even use a toothbrush to rub it in, then wash in washer. Good luck!

  3. For really tough stains on whites, I will take the OxyClean powder and make a paste with a little water. I'll use an old toothbrush and scrub the paste into the stain and then soak it in hot water with more Oxyclean powder overnight. Then it goes into the wash in my whitest whites cycle. I spilled a glass of red wine all over my chevron linen sun dress last summer and this worked like a charm.

    1. Good to know! I tried Oxyclean, the toothbrush technique on some pants that got a backsplash from wearing flip flops in the rain, but the stain is still faintly there. I do think Oxyclean is wonderful, though, it just didn't work 100% for my situation.

    2. Use cold water. Not hot water. It'll work. This is a tip from my MIL.

    3. I never use hot water. Cold didn't work for me.

    4. Thanks to everyone for the tips! The OxyClean max didn't work - I'll have to try peroxide and/or Borax next. I tried spray & then immediate wash on cold, then spray & let sit for six hours then wash on cold... stain is still there, but faint. I'd be too afraid to wash these jeans on hot or even warm - I would not want them to shrink! I am 5'7" so they're the perfect "cropped" length on me right now.

    5. Do you have a dry cleaner that you trust? I've had red wine spilled all over (and I do mean all over) my J Crew white Reid cropped jeans TWICE now, and they've made them look brand new both times. (And I'll just admit how crazy I am because you all seem so nice. Initially, I bought two pair because they fit so well and were on sale, and then, after the first wine incident, I ordered a third pair, just in case one of my two were ruined. Like I said, they cleaned up perfectly, and then it was the very first time I wore the brand new pair that wine got spilled a second time. Can't win, but I still have three great-looking pairs of white cropped jeans!)

    7. @Gina, no shame in buying multiples of the things you love! I think that's a great idea, actually, especially since when it involves such a delicate color. Finding an item that seems as if it was made specifically for you is such a treat and not knowing it might be discontinued or if you'll be able to find it again is enough reason to buy a back-up version! I will definitely keep your dry cleaner tip in mind. :-)

    1. Oh! I had to recheck my email, and I didn't get it, too. :-(

    2. The code was not sent to me in the Jenna email- it was an email a couple of day ago that said "Hi hi hi hi..."

    3. I got the Jenna picks e-mail but no code?

    4. No email for me either. Too bad. I have a lot in my cart just waiting for a promo.

    1. Yeah, new Excursion Vests are now online! I like the Heather Tigerlilly, but seriously, I just can't deal with winter wear when it's about 100 degrees outside now!

  6. Has J Crew's return policy changed? I have a gift (brand new, current item) but no gift receipt & wanted to exchange. Was told no, can't even exchange without a receipt.

    1. Hi shopalot - yeah, that change was made a while ago but I can't remember how long. It may be in the JCA archives.

    2. Thanks for the info, silver_lining. I always have my receipts so haven't run into this situation before.

    3. Hi shopalot. I think it's been almost 2 years now for the return policy. Going off of a faint memory of a situation where a store director wouldn't make an exchange for a former J. Crew employee for the very same reason. He was very strict and even rude about it. She felt pretty bad.

I get the loss prevention aspect, particularly with eBay in our lives. People will try to return soemthing they purchased thru eBay to a retail store. Customer education is key. Letting customers that pay cash know they will need the receipt to return would be something to share.

    4. I felt a bit like the SA (new, never saw her before) was implying I was up to something shady. It made me feel terrible; I am an excellent customer and always have my receipts. However, I did return a scarf in January that was a Christmas gift, had no receipt/gift receipt and it was no problem at all. Perhaps they are a little more lenient at the holidays? Oh well, I am stuck with something that doesn't fit and I won't wear. :(

    5. Shopalot, I had the same experience as you returning something around Christmas last year (and it was a scarf too ;) Another time I tried to return something that I had received from my sister for my birthday. I didn't have the receipt but they looked up my sisters email and let me return it for store credit. I hate that you had that experience.

  10. Just got the shipping notice for a couple of linen button downs, and UPS tracking shows a package weight of 12.5 lbs. Wonder what they actually sent?

    2. Package arrived today containing . . . the two shirts I ordered. And yes, the JC-generated label listed a package weight of 12.5 lbs, even tho it really only weight a pound or so. ??? Oh well, very happy to receive the shirts I ordered!

    3. I'm glad you received what you ordered! Maybe someone just put the decimal point in the wrong spot. Definitely strange though...

  11. What happened to J Crew? I can't be excited about changing a T-shirt a hundred different ways every season. Who is their market buyer? I used to be able to shop without trying anything on because I was a standard size. Now for God's sake everything fits differently and I can't just go drop a couple grand without trying everything on. How annoying. GO BACK TO YOUR SIZING before you edited. Watch what's happening in the fashion world and give it to us at a reasonable price. J Crew has been so 'Out There" recently that I have cut back on purchasing ( which my husband thanks you for) I loved that they were cutting edge but now feel like I do not fit there target audience. Sad because my entire wardrobe worked from one season to the next.

    1. I keep hoping they will turn things around..........but yes.......these last couple of years have been easy on my pocketbook because I haven't been enamored with a lot of J. Crew's offerings. I guess that's good in some ways. I'm focusing on some other designers these days. I'm looking for good quality and am willing to pay for it.
