Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  3. I heard on the radio yesterday that Jcrew is #5 in sending out annoying/spammy emails...LOL. Others on the top 10 were Victoria's Secret and Gilt. I subscribe to all of these emails :/ Thought I would pass this little tidbit onto you guys :)

    1. I unsubscribed from their emails after they started the constant "take a look at what's in your shopping bag" emails and the "you have great taste" emails about items on my wishlist. I don't like being bombarded with that kind of stuff and I don't like being reminded that retailers can follow my activity around the internet.

    2. That's pretty funny! Who did they say was #1, do you remember? (For me personally, it's the Banana/Gap family as they have so many sales, etc. Not a complaint, just an observation.)

    3. I also unsubscribed from JC emails. The only worthwhile thing I've missed is the cardholder promo, which wasn't a big miss for me :)

    4. @TM93 I pulled into work right after the VS and Gilt comment and didn't find out :( Banana is really persistant! I have a BR credit card (back when it was so good) and I get an email almost every single day. I haven't bought anything at BR in years.

@blakemdjohns and @wendy I think I am going to unsub from jcrew emails too...

  4. Just noticed that Elsie's are back at full price ...In all colors that were on sale with extra %off.

    1. Me too, Ruffles. The last print I remember feeling that I had to have was the Casbah print from I think, spring 2011. That was the vivid blue-green paisley print. I have it in a perfect shirt and factory pencil skirt. Both are still favorites. I thought maybe because I was working from home for a few years that I had subconsciously adjusted to needing only casual clothes, but now that I'm back working an office job where pretty, dressier clothes would be an option, I still am not tempted by the prints. I came close on the silk watercolor skirt this recent rollout, but something doesn't feel that compelling to me. I wonder what it is? Hard to articulate what about a print doesn't feel right, but I can name any number of pre-2012 prints I felt compelled to buy and some like the bug print skirt I still think about missing out on.

    2. Mary G. I loved the Casbah print! There are so many spectacular ones from years past. The last one I REALLY loved was Punk Floral, so it's been a while. There have been some *good* ones since but not great. That Scattered Daisy from this rollout? Seriously disappointing.

    3. I was thinking of old jcrew prints today as I was carrying around my umbrella with the library print. I'm so glad it still works as I love the print. This summer I really need to pull out the punk floral top as I love it too but it seems so delicate that I've only worn once.

    1. http://www.zara.com/us/en/new-in/wide-leg-trousers-c363021p2776859.html

I was expecting the fit to be similar to this but it's much tighter.

    2. I mentioned I was hoping to see a similar pant from JCrew as shown in NYFW and the pant linked at Zara was mentioned. They were a steal so I ordered them to try, never having worn Zara. Just got them last night, so props to the co for fast and efficient shipping and very nice boxing. Unfortunately, the fit is not for me. I know people say JCrew is cut too straight. I'm small but curvy and don't usually have such issues with JCrew pants. Granted a high waisted pant is more difficult when you're dealing with a hip to waist difference, but these are cut way too straight so back they go.

FWIW everything was cheap and though I might look there for my teens I don't think I'll be shopping there myself.

      Delete
    3. I've often wondered about Zara. Sometimes bloggers find good leather jackets there, but I've never taken the plunge.

      Delete
    4. Watch out for Zara's return policy. I got burned (ordering online) by ordering two of the same jacket (in different sizes) and not returning the one I didn't want in time. It was a short window, if I recall correctly. Make sure you know what it is, if you order. I've never been into a Zara B&M, though, don't live near one.

      Delete
    5. It said free returns. Either pickup or drop off. It's all going back!

I ordered a cute black suede jacket and didn't even bother trying it on. The buttons were impossible to even attempt.

    6. @Vava, Ema (IG crazyaboutjcrew) can be a good resource for Zara feedback. I don't have a lot from therm & I've been selective about the pieces I purchase. The premium collection has been good for cashmere, no pilling & soft. When I'm in Europe @ the end of the summer, I've been able to pick up a few linen shirts & a cotton dress. You just have to be really selective. Their shoes are hit & miss. A pair of studded leather flats I bought in Morocco were great but the boots from Barcelona were a fail (too stiff & uncomfortable) so gave them away. I never buy anything regular price; they have seasonal sales & that's when I take a look. Unlike JC, there's no final sale but there's also no PA @ Zara.

  10. Off topic, I am quite interested in the BR Fall 2016 show at NYFW. Lots of great looks I would wear. Not sure who is designing now that Marissa Webb is out. Whoever it is, they're doing a great job. BR offered 6 items for sale immediately after the show and imagine my surprise when I found nary a mystery fiber in the descriptions. It was lovely things like silk and wool.

    Here's a good look: https://www.pinterest.com/bananarepublic/fall-16-nyfw-collection/

    1. Wow, thanks for that link, Desert Flower!! I pinned the hell out of it -- quite a few things I'm interested in! Last week in the 'Other Retailers' thread, I posted that I'd recently re-visited BR after a years-long hiatus and was pleasantly surprised by some of their new offerings. Their Fall show certainly looks promising (some loves in there already) and for one, cannot wait to see them in person!

    2. I was impressed. After a few years of avoiding Banana Republic's ill fitting polyester hell, they may be reeling me back in!

    3. Yes DF, the BR Fall 2016 show looks interesting and wearable. With Marissa Web out, they have shifted from the edgy urban look to French girl style which I love. JCrew's show for fall was a bit of a let down. Having said that, I did like this week's roll-out and I've ordered a few to try on with the 25% off. I am liking Jcrew's new direction, less items but more classic and the Cece's are back from Italy. They're listening!

  11. Just as a heads-up to Toronto JCAs, when I went to the Yorkdale location today, they had a bunch of old Made in Italy leather Kiki ballet flats out in the final sale section. From what I remember, the only colours were black, and a light pink one with neon orange/red trim. I ended up getting a black pair in my size for around $87, minus 30%. The sales associate said something about just putting them out today (Friday), and them selling out quickly.

Otherwise, I got the Midweight Striped Boatneck T-shirt in the red and white colour on Wednesday on sale, and found a random pair of Cece suede flats (not Made in Italy) in the Island Reef colour in the final sale section that randomly popped up out of nowhere and was the only one in that colour.

    1. Thanks for posting this, Xan! Just called Yorkdale and they have them in my size, on my way up there right now to pick up yet another pair of the pink Kikis - my faves. Gee, I might have to check out the rest of their sale while I'm there, I have noticed that particular store seems to be the clearance hub for the GTA Crew, they always have a much bigger sale room than anywhere else.

    2. You're so right - I went to the Yorkville location as well and they had no clearance shoes whatsoever! Meanwhile the Yorkdale location had the Kikis in BOTH colours in my size. It helps that I take a 10 in JC shoes...

    1. It looks really rumpled in your photos. Is that the fabric? Is that how it's supposed to look? I haven't purchased a J. Crew trench since the Enxore trench years ago. That's a thick, smooth fabric, with the netting under the skirt part. This trench looks a lot more casual and less polished (because of the wrinkled, crumply fabric). I love my Encore trench for a workwear topper in early Fall and Spring, but I prefer a military coat or vest for a more casual look. I don't prefer the crumpled look for the trench.

      Delete
    2. I think the rumpling is because of the "washed" component of the trench. It's a great piece, but you may not like it if the "crumpled look" bothers you.

      Delete
    3. Yeah that is what I thought when I saw it on your instagram. The fabric just looks too cheap rumpled like that. A trench to me need to look a bit more polished and substantial. I'd rather have a field type jacket for a casual look.

      Delete
    4. I totally disagree. The fabric is not cheap.

      Delete
    5. Yes, I saw it yesterday and it is a casual trench, which is understandable because they are already offering the Icon in the polished category and, even if not exactly a trench, the new chateau. I think it is a good one, I absolutely don't need it at this point but if I did I would probably get it.

    6. It's probably one of those situations where something looks to be one thing but in reality is entirely something else.

    8. I've tried on this coat in a couple stores in an effort to make up my mind on whether to purchase it. The "washed" description makes it a _very_ casual coat. I would never wear this to work over a suit or dress - it's just not polished enough. But perfect with jeans and other casual items, and probably great for summer travel - it's all wrinkled in the March 2016 Style Guide, so I assume this is the coat's natural state. I eventually passed because I have two lightweight Catherine Trenches from Fossil that I prefer to this. FYI, J.Crew's trench is not lined, and I found it to fit TTS (I usually start with a 6 in coats).

      Delete
    9. P.S. I've only seen Light Walnut in stores. Given it's darker color, the Classic Navy might look more polished.

    10. At first I loved this trench, but when I looked closely at the picture on the model I realized it was 'wrinkled on purpose,' which is such a gripe for me. Maybe wrinkles can look cool if you stylize your whole look/outfit around it, (Rynetta looks great in it!) but what I want in a trench is something crisp and classic that sharpens my look and makes my outfit more polished. This trench feels too much like leaving the house without ironing your shirt.

    12. J. Crew finally made something that even the amazing Rynetta cannot make look good. I think it looks messy. It's one of those pieces that no one will "get". It looks like it was rolled in the bottom of a suitcase.

    17. I popped into a store and tried this on. The 00P fits true to size (I'm 4'11) but I didn't care for the fabric (it is "washed" and the trench I tried on had visible white streaks running vertically down the front, so it looked kinda messed up), and the price point is high for an unlined jacket. The belt and buckles at the sleeves are also very wrinkled and shrunken, which I'm sure would drive me nuts. I agree with Blakemdjohns and Ema, it's a cute trench for casual occasions but I much prefer polished fabric for more versatility

    19. I'm jumping in the trench(es)!

      (slaps knee)

When I read the description, I immediately thought of the rumpled cotton trench from 2009 or so. That think was beyond rumpled. I think I wore it al of 3x before taking it to consignment. My other expectations were that it would be similar that loose style we've been seeing at F21, Zara & H&M for awhile now. Theirs usually don't have a belt & epaulets; just open at flowy.

I tried it on yesterday and the fabric is sturdier than the flowy fast fashion trenches. That said, even with ironing I would expect some wrinkles. Given that I've been chasing the perfect trench for years, this one should work perfect for me. My issues are that the color is usually off for my skin tone or the fit looks too structured on me. Maybe polished wouldn't matter if it's a Burberry, but I've been in the $200 or less price range. Long ago, I did buy Kate Spade's topliner trench on sale for $300-something, which is tipped and so cute but the cut just didn't look right on me. Thank goodness I was able to sell it for about the same.

I tried on the washed trench in a 6, which fit so tts. Can't wait to get my size equiv of 8P to see what I think at home. The color is more dull in-person than online, but not as green as some of the other tans we've seen at J. Crew. As far as style, I think it's totally dependent on lifestyle. It seems I can never look to relaxed in sweatshirt lovin' SF Giants & Oakland Raiders territory.

    21. I can't wear this color, and don't wear navy, so it's absolutely not for me, but I am a jacket girl. I even wear jackets in my own home because I need pockets. (Ok, you may catch me in my robe sometimes, or a down vest!). I have a hooded JCrew lightweight cotton...popover of sorts. I would wear it over leggings and a tee to the gym or to run errands, or to my kids' games. In that usage I got many compliments. If it rained I'd have a hood. I see this trench as a similar item, easy to wear around or toss over a lightweight dress or casual attire.
I'm the mom wearing a linen blazer at softball games, so I tend to dress up—if the color worked for me a piece like this would be a comfortable, welcome shift.

I have a purposely wrinkled cotton shirt from early 2009 (or maybe earlier). I loved it so much I wore it to events with a velvet blazer and skirt, or a taffeta skirt. The contrast worked.

I do feel some of the comments are bordering on a bit mean.

    22. I guess if we all agreed, we would walking around in the exact same outfits everyday. This is a site where people critique clothes - sometimes positive, sometimes negative. I've read people's critical reviews of items that I love, and have been in shock over things that I read people swooning over. Not a big deal. None of it is personal. It's a coat. I don't see anything mean happening, but maybe I'm reading it wrong. But with that last comment above, perhaps it is time to bring 'trench-gate' to a close.

    24. I've said all I wanted to say about the coat, but I feel as long as criticism is only against the garment and not about the individual I don't see how that is mean. I don't understand the value of discussion if everything is going to be about how wonderful something is. People have different opinions.

    27. Having different opinions is not the issue. Divergent viewpoints are important. Some of the comments were not about the trench and they did become personal/mean. And, that's my opinion. In the end, it is what it is!

      Delete
    28. Rynetta, I know this about my comment and I am truly sorry if your feelings were hurt. That was not my intention. I still don't like that coat but there was nothing in my comments about it that were directed toward you personally or about you, and if the artlessness of my comment made you feel that way, it was unintended. Social media can be a tough place and I've seen the anonymity of it give rise to mean and tasteless comments. Up to now, I've never been in the middle of one, even inadvertently. I think it's a sign that it's time I bow out of this community and leave it to those of you who aren't so easily misinterpreted!

      Delete
    29. Desert Flower: I genuinely appreciate your apology. I totally understand if we have different views about the trench. We're different people! It's hard to detect tone in email/text messages/social media posts. Again, I appreciate your apology.

      Delete
    30. @Desert Flower, my $.02, but I didn't see anything mean or personal in your comments that would require an apology; it was a difference of opinion about a garment. IMO, the debate/discussion was "child's play" in terms of what constitutes mean behavior, particularly based upon what I've read in other social media outlets. Hope you change your mind about participating in JCA :).

    31. I wouldn't want all of us to agree--and I hope no one leaves. I've been part of many worse message boards and I happen to love being part of this group because everyone generally posts very thoughtfully.
Last week I read a few things--one directed at something I was wearing--that made me take a step back, as what I was wearing was dismissed as looking stupid or something to that effect. I think constructive criticism is important, but I'm my own worst critic. If we dislike something someone is wearing, just remember they're actually wearing it! I guess I just felt so many people were being negative about the trench in very colorful ways!

I hope I didn't start anything and I really hope everyone keeps posting.

    33. Just saw Gigi's post on the trench and wanted to share my thoughts after seeing it in person. The pics don't do it justice at all!

It's much nicer in person and the fabric looks much more substantial. I didn't try it on because the color doesn't work for me, but from what I saw it looked like a heavy canvas fabric, not that lighter crinkly fabric I was expecting. (I was thinking it was similar to the fishtail anorak which I bought for my 19 year old this spring, I love that but it's a much more casual look.)
In person this looks like a traditional trench but with a slightly more updated fabric instead of something that looks like it only would get worn in the rain. It's also less wrinkly than I thought. As a NYC girl, I could easily see this over black skinny pants and a striped tee with ballet flats. Super chic

  15. I went to a couple of Crews today and tried on a few things - the only thing I really ended up wanting was a black Tippi, besides my sale Kikis. 'Oh we're so sorry, the Tippi isn't included in the 25% off promo.' Ok, don't need it that bad. Go next door to BR, discover they have the exact same fine merino wool sweater at a lower starting price AND 30% off. Same quality and better fit, if anyone is in want of one. JCrew, I keep trying to come back to you but you keep pushing me away...!

    1. @cagliari67 sad to hear they wouldn't give you the Tippi for 25% off ...my store gave me the discount, wish there would be some consistency! Thanks for the heads up about the BR sweater, I saw it and was wondering how it was, will have to check it out :)

    2. Anne, I have to say it would be difficult to tell the difference between the JC and BR merino crewnecks. Same weight, same style, full-length sleeves. I usually size up one in the Tippi to make it a little relaxed, but in the BR version I didn't need to do that. They had a good range of colours, and even a couple of thin-striped ones. There is less cost difference in U.S. funds than CDN though, so more of an advantage for me than you: the Tippi sells for $102 here while the sale price on the BR was $57. Definitely worth a look nonetheless.

    1. No. The glitter Elsies are totally fine. The fabric cuts my foot off right at my pinky toe bone, it's not even a matter of breaking in. I may try to bring them back to my store. The fabric is rigid and doesn't have give. I tried on the suede d'orsay Elsies and the fabric was softer so I didn't feel this pain.

Second time I wore stockings and they were much better since they didn't rub as much. 18. Well, I had to give the Zara pants another look with the essence of the look from NYFW. I'd probably wear more casual shoes. I'm still unsure but seeing the striped top and blazer with the belt I kind of like the look of the pants. FWIW, my 14 yo was mortified.
